Three women shot dead in Mogadishu
MOGADISHU -- Suspected Al Shabaab gunmen separately shot and killed three women in the latest of string of attacks targeting Somali government officials and civilians in Mogadishu, Garowe Online reports.

Earlier on Monday night, assailants beheaded a mother along with her son in Yaqshid district of Mogadishu. Residents reported that the two were found dead in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

In a separate incident, men armed with pistols today gunned down Sharifo Yusuf Mohamed at Harar-yale junction near Villa Somalia Presidential Compound in Wardhiigley district. Witnesses said, late Mohamed was conducting medical and vaccine exercises when the attackers fired live ammunition at her.
She was doing good. She must be killed...
"The polio vaccinator was at work and the assailants immediately escaped from the scene of crime," said a nearby eyewitness, adding that the security forces arrived on the spot where the assasination took place for investigations.

Meanwhile, a teashop owner was gunned down in Mogadishu's livestock market neighborhood.

The killings occurred in Mogadishu as Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group has stepped up suicide bombings, military style ambushes and planned assasinations.

Nigeria says 40 Boko Haram fighters convicted since 2011
[TURKISHPRESS] Justic Minister and Attorney-General Mohammed Adoke announced on Monday that 40 Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
suspects had been convicted of terrorism-related offences under Nigeria's anti-terror law since 2011.

"So far, more than 40 members of the sect have been convicted of terrorism-related crimes, and several more are being tried under our law," Adoke told a seminar devoted to human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
and international humanitarian law.

He said the government had been able to curtail the myrmidon group's activities through the prosecution of its members under Nigeria's Terrorism Prevention Act.

"This administration is working hard to put the insurgency behind us as quickly as possible," Adoke said.

Last August, Adoke had said that ten convictions had been recorded against members of the dreaded Boko Haram insurgency.

The media, meanwhile, has reported less than six convictions between then and now.

Boko Haram, a hitherto peaceful organization that had preached against corruption, suddenly turned violent in 2009 following the murder of group leader Mohammed Yusuf while in police custody.

In the years since, the group has been blamed for thousands of terrorist acts, including attacks on churches and security posts across Nigeria's northern region, especially the three northeastern states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.

43 killed in Nigeria in suspected Boko Haram school attack
[Bangkok Post] Suspected Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
Islamists killed 43 people on Tuesday when they attacked secondary school students as they slept in the latest school massacre to hit Nigeria's troubled northeast.

The raid at 2:00 am (0100 GMT) targeted the Federal Government College in the town of Buni Yadi in Yobe state and bore the hallmarks of a similar attack last September in which 40 died.

The attackers reportedly hurled explosives into student residential buildings, sprayed gunfire into rooms and hacked a number of students to death.

A senior medical source at the Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital in Yobe's capital Damaturu said the gunnies only targeted male students and that female students were "spared".

"So far, 43 bodies have been brought (from the college) and are lying at the morgue," said the source, who requested anonymity as he was not authorised to discuss corpse counts.

A statement released by President Goodluck Jonathan
... 14th President of Nigeria. He was Governor of Bayelsa State from 9 December 2005 to 28 May 2007, and was sworn in as Vice President on 29 May 2007. Jonathan is a member of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP). He is a lover of nifty hats, which makes him easily recognizable unless someone else in the room is wearing a neat chapeau...
's office described the killing by people it called "deranged bully boyz and fanatics", as "callous and senseless".

"The president wholly condemns the heinous, brutal and mindless killing of the guiltless students by deranged bully boyz and fanatics who have clearly lost all human morality..."

Yobe has been one of the hardest-hit areas in Boko Haram's four-and-half year Islamist uprising, which has killed thousands of people.

The name Boko Haram means "Western Education is forbidden".

The group has been blamed for waves of school attacks, especially in Yobe, where scores of students have been slaughtered in the last year.

The state's police chief, Sanusi Rufai, who confirmed the attack and had given an earlier corpse count of 29, went to Buni Yadi -- roughly 60 kilometres (40 miles) from the state capital Damaturu -- with Governor Ibrahim Geidam to assess the damage.

- Convoy of ambulances -

Damaturu resident Babagoni Musa told AFP that four ambulances carrying dead bodies drove past his shop, which falls on the road from Buni Yadi.

"They had tree branches on them which is a sign used here to signify a corpse is in a vehicle," he said.

People whose relatives were studying at the college had surrounded the morgue and were desperately seeking information about those killed, forcing the military take control of the building to restore calm, the hospital source said.

Yobe is one of three northeastern states which was placed under emergency rule in May last year when the military launched a massive operation to crush the Boko Haram uprising.
Ynet adds:
Soldiers guarding a checkpoint near the government school were mysteriously withdrawn hours before the attack, said the front man for the governor of Yobe state.

Nine More Bodies Found in Bangui Streets
[An Nahar] The Red Thingy said Tuesday it had collected nine more bodies in Bangui, bringing to 1,240 the number of confirmed deaths from the violence in the Central African capital since December.

Among the corpses collected by Red Thingy staff were two Chadian soldiers from the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
peacekeeping force MISCA and two civilians who were killed on Sunday in festivities with gunnies on Sunday.

The bodies of the other five were retrieved from several Bangui neighborhoods, a Red Thingy official told Agence La Belle France Presse on condition of anonymity.

The exact time and circumstances of their death was not clear but they all had bullet or machete wounds.

The Central African Red Thingy had found another six bodies in Bangui between Thursday and Saturday last week.

The Red Thingy official said his staff had now collected a total of 1,240 bodies from the streets of Bangui since December 5, when French troops deployed in a bid to quell flaring sectarian unrest.

He said the real corpse count for Bangui was probably much higher as the bodies of many people killed in the Mohammedan-Christian festivities are often retrieved and buried immediately by relatives.

The Red Thingy tally does not include deaths from the fighting in other cities and rural areas, where aid groups and news hounds have had little access.

"Things are not improving in Bangui. Nine bodies in a day, that's a lot," the Red Thingy official said.

La Belle France has been defending its record in the Central African Republic, citing improvements in Bangui security and denying claims of ethnic cleansing.

La Belle France's parliament was expected Tuesday to approve a mandate extension for Operation Sangaris, the military mission Gay Paree launched nearly three months ago in its former colony.

Three Saudi Police Wounded in Shiite Village Attack
[An Nahar] Unknown gunnies have shot up a cop shoppe in a Shiite village in eastern Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, wounding three coppers, the interior ministry said Tuesday.

The attack took place late Sunday in the flashpoint Awamiya village, part of the predominantly Shiite Eastern Province district of Qatif where protests erupted in 2011 in the wake of the Arab Spring.

Policemen were standing outside the cop shoppe when they came under "heavy gunfire," the ministry said in a statement carried by SPA state news agency.

One of the three maimed men is at death's door, it said.

A firefight in Awamiya last week killed two coppers and two Shiite activists wanted by authorities over violence when security forces tried to arrest the two men, the ministry said at the time.

In January, the U.S. embassy in Riyadh warned its citizens against travelling to Awamiya after gunnies shot up the car of two German diplomats, who escaped unhurt.

Demonstrations in Eastern Province, where most of the kingdom's two million Shiites live, erupted simultaneously with a protest movement in neighboring Bahrain in 2011.

They took a violent turn in 2012 and festivities between police and protesters have so far killed 24 people, including at least four coppers, according to activists.

[An Nahar] Former Guantanamo Bay detainee Moazzam Begg is among four people tossed in the calaboose

in Britannia on Tuesday on suspicion of Syria-related terror offenses, police said.

Begg, 45, was arrested on suspicion of "attending a terrorist training camp and facilitating terrorism overseas", said West Midlands Police.

Begg was held in Guantanamo Bay, the detention camp at a U.S. naval base on Cuba, for nearly three years after being arrested in 2002. He was released without charge in 2005.

On Tuesday, he was among four people arrested at their homes in Britannia's second city of Birmingham, central England, "on suspicion of Syria-related terrorism offenses".

A 44-year-old woman and her son aged 20 were held on suspicion of facilitating terror abroad, as was a 36-year-old man at a separate address.

"We can confirm that Moazzam Begg was arrested," a West Midlands Police spokeswoman said.

"We are confirming this name as a result of the anticipated high public interest to accredited media.

"This is an arrest, not a charge, and... our naming does not imply any guilt."

The three homes were being searched by officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit, while vehicles and electronic equipment were being removed for forensic analysis.

"All four arrests are connected," said Detective Superintendent Shaun Edwards, the WM CTU head of investigations. "They were pre-planned and intelligence-led."

The suspects were being held at a cop shoppe in the Birmingham area.

Jets pound militant hideouts in Waziristan; 30 killed
[DAWN] The Army targeted krazed killer hideouts in the border area of South and North Wazoo tribal regions Tuesday in the fourth wave of recent Arclight airstrikes that killed at least 30 people.

"The Death Eaters had captured a stretch between South Waziristan and North Waziristan and had established training centres where they were also preparing jacket wallahs," said one military official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Another security official said at least 30 Death Eaters had been killed in early morning air strikes.

The latest air strikes took place mainly in the remote Shawal valley and Dattakhel area
... which is owned and operated by Hafiz Gul Behadur...
s of North Waziristan, said to be sites of krazed killer training facilities and compounds.

It was impossible to verify how many civilians might have been killed or maimed as journalists and independent observers are not allowed to operate freely in the area.

North Waziristan residents have been fleeing the area on the Afghan border in recent days, anticipating a full-scale military offensive, leaving homes, shops and villages behind and settling in safer areas, such as Bannu, a town on the edge of the region.

It was also hard to estimate how many people were fleeing the region. One primitive, Naqibullah Khan, told Rooters he was scared for his family because of persistent rumours that the army would soon launch a full-scale offensive.

"Every day heavy arms and ammunition are being shifted to Waziristan and then war planes bomb villages," Khan said by telephone from Bannu. Two-thirds of the population of his village in the Mir Ali area had fled, he said.

"We were hearing that the government would soon launch a big military operation in Waziristan." Another primitive, Gul Jabbar, 48, said by telephone that he had left his shop and home behind in a village after it was hit by fighter jets last week.

"The government is doing nothing to help the people leaving their villages or helping them find accommodation in Bannu," he said.

Pak fighter jets have been pounding targets in the region since the government's efforts to engage Taliban turbans in peace negotiations broke down this month.

Three killed in separate'sectarian' attacks
[DAWN] Three men, including a teacher at the Iranian cultural centre, were rubbed out in suspected sectarian attacks in the city on Monday, police said.

The teacher, who had been maimed by armed robbers last month, was killed in the fresh attack soon after he was discharged from hospital, the police said.

SSP Syed Pir Mohammed Shah said that Mohammed Hussain, 45, was maimed in Clifton on Jan 28. He was under treatment at a Soldier Bazaar hospital from where he was released on Monday. As soon as he along with his attendant, Asad Ali, 25, stepped out, armed motorcyclists opened fire on them and fled, the SSP said. Both of them suffered wounds and were taken to a private hospital on Stadium Road, where doctors declared Mr Hussain dead.

A spokesperson for the Majlis Wahdat-e-Mohammedaneen condemned the attack and said the victim was Shia and taught Persian at the Iranian cultural centre (Khana-e-Farhang) in the city.

ASP-Clifton Ibadat Nisar said the police believed the previous attack was related to a mugging attempt.

In Rizvia Society, a cycle of violence mechanic was rubbed out in the evening.

Rizvia SHO Hasan Haider said that Syed Shahzad Ali Zaidi, 26, was killed at his shop in Waheedabad in a drive-by shooting. SSP-West Irfan Baloch said that it appeared to be a case of sectarian killing.

Earlier, Syed Sarwar Abbas, 28, was targeted outside a meat shop near his residence in Madina Colony in Orangi Town's Sector 11 ½.

The area police said the victim sustained a bullet wound in the head. They said he was Shia and worked at a garments factory. The murder might be an outcome of sectarianism, said Mominabad SHO Ahmed Butt.

Teenager confesses to cinema explosions
[DAWN] A teenager confessed to bombing Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
's Shama Cinema before a local judicial magistrate on Monday and said he and his accomplice had hid hand grenades used in the terrorist activity under shalwar to deceive guards on the premises.

The bombings left 15 people dead and dozens injured on Feb 11.

Official sources said the 15-year-old suspect from Bara tehsil of neighbouring Khyber Agency told Magistrate Mohammad Ilyas Khan that he and his accomplice were maimed in the stampede caused by the bombings.

They said the magistrate sent the suspect to prison on 14-day judicial remand until March 10 after recording his confessional statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The sources said the suspect was taken into custody by police four days ago from the Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, where they along with other injured were shifted after the blasts.

They said initially, police claimed that three blasts had taken place inside the cinema, but later it transpired that two kabooms had occurred.

The investigation officer of the case had produced the suspect before an anti-terrorism court judge Anwar Hussain Khan amid strict security measures after completion of three-day physical remand.

The judge was told that the suspect had confessed to bombings and had expressed willingness to record confessional statement. The judge referred the suspect to the judicial magistrate for the purpose.

The sources said the suspect claimed in his statement that a Bara-based myrmidon organization had trained him before tasking him with attacking Shama Cinema.

They said the suspect said a member of the outfit provided him and his accomplice with hand grenades, while another dropped them outside the cinema on cycle of violence.

The sources said the suspect said when he and his accomplice saw two guards bodysearch visitors at the cinema's entrance, they went to a nearby shop, purchased sticking tape, used it to fasten the hand grenades with legs under shalwar and managed to enter the cinema.

Iraq
Iraq Attacks Kill 14 People, Most Security Personnel
[An Nahar] Attacks in Iraq, including a suicide kaboom near the provincial council headquarters in the battleground city of Ramadi, killed 14 people Tuesday, most of them soldiers and police, officials said.

In Ramadi, the capital of Anbar province west of Storied Baghdad, a jacket wallah detonated an explosives-rigged vehicle near the council headquarters, killing three soldiers and wounding at least four.

Since early January, anti-government fighters have occupied shifting areas of Ramadi and also control the city of Fallujah to its east -- a major security challenge for the government.

In the north, gunnies attacked a police checkpoint in a village west of the oil refinery town of Baiji, killing four police and wounding three.

And in Nineveh province, separate bombings killed two police and maimed four, while a roadside kaboom in the Tuz Khurmatu area killed one civilian.

In the capital, a boom-mobile in the city center killed at least four people and maimed at least 13.

The deaths came after violence killed 35 people on Monday.

Gunfire Erupts near Iran Embassy in Baghdad
[An Nahar] Gunfire erupted near the Iranian embassy in central Storied Baghdad Tuesday, with contradictory reports over whether the mission had been targeted and even a claim that a guard had did away with himself.

An embassy employee who was in the area said the gunfire maimed a guard when it targeted the mission, near the heavily fortified Green Zone, where the Iraqi government is headquartered.

But front man Ali Naraqi said the shooting had nothing to do with the embassy.

And an interior ministry official said an Iraqi soldier guarding the embassy had shot himself to death at its entrance, emptying his weapon's magazine.

Witnesses reported heavy gunfire, and said security forces closed roads and bridges in the area.

Predominantly Shiite Mohammedan Iran is widely reviled by Sunni myrmidons, who accuse Iraq's Shiite-led government of being beholden to the country's eastern neighbor.

Iraq has been hit by a year-long surge in violence that has reached levels not seen since 2008, driven by widespread discontent among the Sunni Arab minority and the civil war in neighboring Syria.

Bombings and shootings are a near-daily occurrence in the capital, often killing and wounding civilians but also targeting security forces members.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Police Enter Temple Mount, Arrest 3 Palestinian Rioters
[Ynet] Protesters threw stones, firecrackers at security forces in the holy site, forcing police to enter it to disperse the crowd.

About 20 masked Palestinians threw stones and firecrackers at Israeli security forces from atop the Temple Mount Tuesday morning.

A police force entered the area to disperse the rioters using crowd dispersal means, including stun grenades. Three rioters were arrested on suspicion they threw rocks and firecrackers at security forces.

Two policemen were lightly hurt in the incident, police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld told AFP.

The site, known to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary, is ground zero in the territorial and religious conflict between Israel and its Arab neighbors. Clashes often erupt after Muslims conclude their prayers. Jews typically pray below at the Western Wall but tensions have grown lately with an increased number of Jews arriving to pray at the Temple Mount as well.

Revered as Islam's third holiest spot, the site's iconic gold-topped Dome of the Rock enshrines the rock where Muslims believe the Prophet Mohammad ascended to heaven. Jews believe the rock may be where the holiest part of the two ancient temples stood about 2,000 years ago - and where religious Jews pray a third temple will one day be built.

The site is so holy that Jews have traditionally refrained from praying on the hilltop, but attitudes among some Orthodox Jews have been evolving and there has been growing demand to allow Jews to pray there freely as well.

Nationalist lawmaker Moshe Feiglin (Likud) has been leading the charge. Feiglin initiated Tuesday's Knesset discussion in which he is to suggest extending Israeli sovereignty over the Temple Mount. Jordan currently administers Muslim religious affairs at the site. No vote is expected at the end of the debate.

The Palestinians claim east Jerusalem, and the Old City, as the capital of their future state. The status of the site remains perhaps the most sensitive and explosive issue in US-brokered peace talks. Netanyahu's office strongly rejects Feiglin's initiative believing any change to the status quo could spark violence and unsettle the talks.

Mickey Levy, Israel's deputy finance minister and a former commander of the Jerusalem District Police, called the site "a keg of dynamite" and urged restraint.

Zehava Gal-On, head of the dovish Meretz Party, said Tuesday's riot was a direct result of Feiglin's "religious provocation." She said her party recognized the right to free worship at holy sites, but not every right had to be realized and at this time doing so would merely enflame the region.

Recently police has closed the site for visitors following riots or following intelligence on intentions to riot but on Tuesday morning, despite the high tensions ahead of the Knesset discussions, police decided to keep the Temple Mount open for visitors.

Multiple attacks kill two in southern Thailand
Unknown assailants hurled firebombs and riddled a small factory with bullets in Narathiwat province late on Monday night. Nobody was wounded.

Meanwhile in Pattani province, a motorcycle bomb exploded yesterday afternoon killing a paramilitary ranger and injuring three others. Rangers were on patrol when a home-made bomb hidden in a motorcycle parked on the roadside was detonated. Four of the rangers were wounded, and one was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

This fatal blast took place only hours after another bomb went off in Narathiwat's Tak Bai district. The attack seriously wounded two soldiers who were escorting teachers to school.

Al-Nusra Front Gives ISIL Ultimatum after Commander's Death
[An Nahar] Syria's official al-Qaeda affiliate on Tuesday gave rival jihadists a five-day ultimatum to submit to a joint Islamic court after a top operative was killed in a suicide kaboom.

The ultimatum issued by Al-Nusra Front to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant
... the current version of al-Qaeda in Iraq, just as blood-thirsty and well-beloved as the original...
(ISIL) comes after the killing of Abu Khaled al-Suri, the commander of an Islamist brigade who was close to al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri
... Formerly second in command of al-Qaeda, now the head cheese, occasionally described as the real brains of the outfit. Formerly the Mister Big of Egyptian Islamic Jihad. Bumped off Abdullah Azzam with a car boom in the course of one of their little disputes. Is thought to have composed bin Laden's fatwa entitled World Islamic Front Against Jews and Crusaders. Currently residing in the North Wazoo area. That is not a horn growing from the middle of his forehead, but a prayer bump, attesting to how devout he is...

Rival rebels accuse ISIL of being behind the fatal attack and Al-Nusra's chief said his outfit would fight the group in Syria and neighboring Iraq if it refused joint arbitration.

Though both are rooted in al-Qaeda in Iraq, relations between Al-Nusra and ISIL have collapsed in recent weeks as Syria's rebels have turned on ISIL, accusing it of kidnapping, torturing and killing activists and rival rebels.

Even many hardline Salafist tough guys have been critical of ISIL's quest for hegemony and its refusal to submit to joint arbitration in Islamic courts not run by ISIL holy mans.

"We are waiting for you to respond within five days of the release of this recording," Nusra chief Abu Mohammad al-Jolani said in an audio file linked to the group's official Twitter account.

"Should you refuse... hundreds of members of the Ummah (Islamic nation) will fight (your) ignorant and aggressive ideology, even in Iraq," he said.

The call for ISIL to submit to an Islamic court did not refer to a trial for Suri's killers, but was instead a request for ISIL to accept rulings and decisions of non-ISIL holy mans.

ISIL has never heeded the rulings of holy mans from outside its ranks.

ISIL first appeared in Syria in late spring last year, and its battle-hardened fighters were initially welcomed as allies fighting to overthrow Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Leveler of Latakia...

But in January, rebels declared war against its jihadists, citing its abuses and refusal to cooperate with other groups.

Al-Nusra Front initially sought neutrality, but in recent weeks launched a war of its own against ISIL in the oil-rich eastern province of Deir Ezzor, a key conduit for weapons and fighters from neighboring Iraq.

Relations between the two jihadist groups have hit a new low since Sunday's killing in a suicide kaboom of Suri, a top al-Qaeda operative and commander of Ahrar al-Sham, a powerful rebel group.

Rebels have accused ISIL of killing Suri, who has been hailed on jihadist websites as a companion of Zawahiri and al-Qaeda's late founder the late Osama bin Laden
... who has left the building...

Earlier this month, al-Qaeda announced "it is not linked" to ISIL after the group ignored an earlier order from Zawahiri to return to Iraq.

Fighting between ISIL and its rivals has killed hundreds of people, mostly fighters on both sides, since early January.

Army Releases Image of 'Dangerous' Fugitive
[An Nahar] The army released on Tuesday the image of a "dangerous" runaway, calling on whoever acknowledges him to report to the military institution.

The army command circulated the picture online, pointing out that the suspect had committed "dangerous crimes."

"Whoever recognizes the suspect should swiftly contact the army operations room on 1701, report to the nearest military center or use the LAF application," the army said in its communique.

On Monday, The Lebanese Armed Forces captured two of three inmates who beat feet from Leb's main jail in Roumieh.

The third, who is on the run, is Syrian Muhannad Abdul Rahman.
