Battle occurs near Jowhar
JOWHAR, Somalia -- Fighting erupted at the airport of Jowhar which situates 10 KM away from the town between Somali government forces aided by AMISOM troops and Al Shabaab militants on Sunday night, Garowe Online reports.
You're wondering: who? where?
Local reports say that Al Shabaab fighters attacked the airport of Middle Shabelle regional capital of Jowhar 90 KMs northwest of Mogadishu
...I'm guessing United Express doesn't go there...
and in response to militants attacked the airport, the Somali government and AMISOM forces repulsed Al Shabaab attack on Jowhar airport. Reliable sources in Jowhar confirmed to Garowe Online that the dead included four people from the opposing sides.

Gen. Mohamed Mohamud Saney, the commander of Somali army's second division stationed in Middle Shabelle region told the media that they killed members of Al Shabaab militants in the battle and some others were wounded.

"We repulsed the attack on our bases, I can say the battle was planned ambush but we foiled it and Al Shabaab ran away fled with injuries,' Said Gen. Saney.

On the other hand, a spokesman for Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group said they have targeted the allied forces' military bases and reached their goal.
"We intended to be repulsed. Why? 'Cause we're repulsive!"
Jowhar is agriculture-rich district and former Al Shabaab stronghold. Somali government forces backed by AMISOM troops liberated it from Al Shabaab militants in December 2012.

Puntland executes two convicted of Islamic mufti’s assassination
GAROWE, Somalia -– Two men accused and convincted in court for the assassination of Sheikh Abdulkadir Nur Farah, the Mufti of Puntland, were executed by Puntland military court Tuesday in the capital Garowe, Garowe Online reports.
Executing shaboobs? I like the cut of their jibs...
The two men – Abdirahman Hussein Jama Bile and Abdullahi Osman Ahmed (Aynte) were executed by a Puntland firing squad, with Puntland officials including members of the judiciary, security chiefs and relatives of the late Sheikh Abdulkadir present for the execution.

Sheikh Abdulkadir was gunned down during afternoon prayers inside Badr mosque in Garowe on Friday Feb. 15, 2013, and the killer – Bile – was captured by the public after he attempted a violent escape. The other convicted member of Al Shabaab terrorist network, Mr. Aynte, escaped to neighboring Somaliland but was returned to Puntland authorities on March 13, at the conclusion of dialogue between Puntland and Somaliland officials.

On May 24, the Puntland military court sentenced two death seven persons responsible for the killing of Sheikh Abdulkadir. Five of them were sentenced in absentia, court records reveal. The convicted men lost an appeals case and the Puntland military appeals court upheld the death verdict on July 16.
From capture to execution in under five months. I think that's called 'justice'...
On Feb. 16, Puntland government leaders, Somali federal government officials, Islamic scholars from all regions of Somalia, and the Puntland public attended the funeral of Sheikh Abdulkadir in Garowe, where Puntland leader Abdirahman Mohamed Farole and the Islamic scholars blamed Al Shabaab militants for the sheikh’s assassination.

On Feb. 24, thousands of people took to the streets in Garowe and condemned Al Shabaab group for the wave of terrorism attacks in Somalia.

On April 30, Puntland military court in Bossaso executed 13 persons including a woman. The executed prisoners were convicted of conducting killings and terrorism attacks in Puntland on behalf of Al Shabaab group, including the killing of Sheikh Ahmed Haji Abdirahman in Bossaso in Dec. 2011.

After the executions, Al Shabaab’s spokesman Ali Dheere threatened more terrorist attacks in Puntland targeting judiciary personnel and the security forces.

Roadside Bomb Kills Two Algeria Forest Rangers
[AnNahar] A roadside kaboom killed two forest rangers in the Bouira region southeast of Algiers on Tuesday, Algeria's APS news agency reported.

In the 1990s, Algeria witnessed a devastating decade-long civil war pitting the army against Islamist snuffies after it cancelled elections Islamists had been poised to win.

Some 200,000 people were killed, according to official figures.

There has been a sharp drop in violence in recent years, although groups affiliated with al-Qaeda remain active in the countryside around Algiers, in the Kabylie region east of the capital and in the deep south.

The projectile hit a balcony and sparked a fire in an apartment, which residents said was empty at the time, before firefighters extinguished the blaze.

A rocket-launcher could be seen inside the charred vehicle.

Residents said the target of the attack was likely to have been the Corinthia hotel.

JTF, vigilance group raid Boko Haram hideout, kill seven
[Guardian Ng] FOLLOWING intelligence reports from Maiduguri, residents to members of Borno Vigilance Youths Group (BVYG) and military Joint Task Force (JTF) on Sunday, killed seven Boko Haram

terror suspects and locked away
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
six others in Bama town, after two-hour house-to-house search operations in two wards of the township by 4 p.m.

Bama is a border town with Cameroun; and 78 kilometres east of Maiduguri, the state capital; and an epicentre of Boko Haram sect activities.

The arrested suspects, according to an eyewitness Monday, were picked up by the vigilance youths that stormed the suspected hideouts of fleeing Boko Haram sect members.

He said: "We were sitting under this tree shade; when we saw some youths with sticks, knives and cutlasses in two buses and five tricycles headed towards Tandari ward of Bama town. Five minutes, after soldiers in their patrol vehicles also backed up the youths before the fleeing gunnies were arrested in the evening.

He said even though there were no exchanges of gunfire initially between the fleeing terror suspects and soldiers, seven of them were however, bumped off while attempting to escape towards the outskirts of Tandari areas of Bama town.

Speaking on the house-to-house searches, the source told The Guardian that the Boko Haram sect members must have fled from the destroyed Sambisa Games Reserves Forest, while others could have infiltrated the township from Maiduguri or Konduga, before they were rounded up here yesterday by vigilance youths and JTF.

A hospital attendant at the Specialists Hospital, Maiduguri also said that seven bodies were brought in by a JTF patrol vehicle from Bama by 5.35 p.m. on Sunday.

Confirming the incident yesterday, front man of JTF, Lt. Col Sagir Musa said that the soldiers assisted the vigilance youths in the arrest of six terror suspects at Bama, while seven were killed in an exchange of gunfire in one of the suspects' hideouts. The youths, according to him, were escorted by men of JTF; and returned safely to Maiduguri metropolis without being hurt or killed in the Bama youth's operations.

Boko Haram Leaders Disagree Over Ceasefire
[LEADERSHIP.NG] The Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Imam Shekau, and his deputy, Muhammad Marwana, have reportedly disagreed over the issue of dialogue and ceasefire with the federal government.
I vote for a shootout. Them and all their supporters and an infinite supply of bullets... And let Allah show by his mercy which side he's on.
Shekau, message sent through YouTube, said that that there was no dialogue or ceasefire pact with the federal government, but the deputy leader of the sect, Marwana, in his own statement disclosed to the Voice of America (VOA) that Shekau's comment via YouTube was his personal opinion and not that of the sect.

"Shekau speaks his own opinion," he told the VOA.

Marwana, in a comment he sent to the VOA via email, he said the sect was fully ready to meet with the committee on dialogue.

He stated some of the actions the security agencies took against Shekau's family and said, "That is why we took verdict for retaliation."

Marwana, however, said: "There is a need to meet with the committee and let's forgive one another and make sure that there is no rivalry between us and the populace."

Marwana also urged Nigerians to shun any statement made by Shekau, especially as they relate to attacks.

"Anybody that hears issue of attack from Abubakar Shekau should go and sleep; nothing will happen by the grace of God," he added.

Boko Haram: Pandemonium in Borno mosque
[DAILYPOST.NG] Three suspected Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
Death Eaters over the weekend invaded the El- Amin Daggash Mosque in Government Reserved Area, GRA, in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The suspected terrorists, who allegedly came all the way from Bama council, allegedly attempted to kill a preacher, Modu Mustapha, during Tafsir (Ramadan Preaching).

They were, however, lynched by angry mobs, leading to the arrest of two of the suspects while one died in the process.
Whoops! Clearly this lot are not among Allah's favourites. No Paradise with all that sexy decor for them.
So the angry mob lynched three and only one died? Sheesh, they can't do anything right...
DailyPost gathered that the terrorists, who were armed with AK 47 rifles and a piston, came with a Golf Saloon car and one tricycle.

A source told our correspondent that the incident happened at about 4 pm, when the Tafsir programme was going on.

The source said a concerned resident who had sighted one of the Death Eaters with a pistol sitting uncomfortably inside the congregation, alerted the residents.

According to him, the mob beat the suspect to death and tossed in the slammer
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
two others while they were trying to escape.

However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...
the Joint Task Force in Maidugri has dismissed the alleged planned attack, describing it as an error of judgement by a policeman on duty.

In a press statement which was signed by the JTF Spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa and made available to Journalists in Maiduguri said, "the JTF wishes to clear the air on what happened at the vicinity of El-Amin Daggash Mosque in GRA, Maiduguri on Saturday 20th July, 2013.

"The incident was not a terrorist attack as insinuated, rather, it was an error of judgement by a policeman on duty that pursued someone who allegedly stole a tricycle and a bag of rice and drove off. The policeman was in Mufti, wore Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Reflective Jacket, pursued the alleged thief and fired two gun shots", the statement noted.

Sagir said, the incident happened very close to the said Mosque when Ramadan preaching was on, adding that the firing by the policeman attracted the attention of worshippers including youth vigilantes popularly known as 'Civilian JTF' that were within and around the Mosque.

The JTF Spokesman said, "as a result, there was pandemonium that led to the death of one minor and three others sustained injuries".

He noted that the vigilante lynched the policeman, burnt the Toyota Carina Saloon Car (that the Policeman was in) and the tricycle, before the JTF patrol team rescued the policeman, calmed the youths and restored normality to the area.

In another development, over 50 suspected Death Eaters were over the weekend arrested in Maduganari ward area of Maiduguri Metropolis with the assistance of civilian JTF (vigilante youths) and men of the JTF.

The incident, which took place on Saturday, was based on intelligence report that some of the fleeing Death Eaters around Sambisa Game Reserve Forest and Bullabulin Ngarnam areas who survived the military offensive had regrouped to Maduganari with the aim of launching fresh attacks during the Ramadan Fasting.

Maduganari is one of the peaceful wards of Maiduguri metropolis which had not witnessed any killings and bombings even during the heat of the crisis.

A military source said the suspects were picked up by the joint effort of the JTF and vigilant youths at a hideout, adding that they recovered many arms and ammunitions in the process.

Confirming the arrest of the terror suspects, the JTF Spokesman, Leuitenant Colonel Sagir Musa in an interview with newsmen said, there was a massive arrests of suspected Boko Haram Terrorists in Maduganari over the weekend, but could not give the actual number of those arrested.

He added that the arrest was made based on intelligence report, stressing that after interrogation, those found not guilty of associating or being members of terrorist groups would be released.

Three Bahrainis were arrested; Hussain Hassan Abas Al Madhoon, 25, Ali Mohammed Habib Mohammed Ashor, 34 and Zuhair Jassim Mohammed Abas, 32. They have been referred to the public prosecution, while the search to identify and arrest additional suspects continues, Chief of Public Security Major-General Tareq Hassan Al Hassan told a Press conference.

Britain
Ukrainian Charged Over Mosque Bombs In Britain
[AnNahar] A Ukrainian man charged with the "terrorist-related" murder of an elderly Moslem man has also been charged over three mosque bombings in central England, a court heard on Tuesday.

Pavlo Lapshyn, a 25-year-old postgraduate student from the Ukrainian city of Dnipropetrovsk, was incarcerated
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
last week as part of the investigation into the kabooms.

He was later charged with the murder of 82-year-old grandfather Mohammed Saleem, who was stabbed in the back in Birmingham, central England, on April 29 as he walked home from prayers.

Westminster Magistrates' Court in London was told on Tuesday that Lapshyn is now also charged with carrying out a series of acts with the intention to commit acts of terrorism.

The offences relate to three kabooms in the central English towns of Walsall, Wolverhampton and Tipton in the last month.

The charges include purchasing batteries, a lunch bag, a clock and a container as part of the construction of an bomb.

He is also accused of purchasing chemicals to make bombs, modifying mobile phones to act as detonators, and carrying out Internet research.

Wearing a black top and with closely-cropped hair, and flanked by a team of police and security guards, Lapshyn spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth and to request to speak to his lawyer.

He was remanded in jug and will next appear at a bail hearing at England's central criminal court, the Old Bailey, on July 25.

A second Ukrainian man arrested in connection with the mosque bombings has been released without charge.

The pair was arrested on July 18 after the remnants of home-made explosives were found outside a mosque in Tipton on July 12 and in Walsall on June 22.

Evidence of an kaboom was later found on a roundabout near the Wolverhampton Central Mosque.

No one was injured in the kabooms.

Lapshyn came to Britannia to complete a work placement at a software company in Birmingham, police said, adding that officers were working with Ukrainian authorities to learn more about his past.

There has been a rise in anti-Moslem incidents in Britannia since May, when a soldier was hacked to death on a London street in a suspected Islamist attack.

The kaboom at the Tipton mosque coincided with the funeral of 25-year-old Lee Rigby, who was murdered in broad daylight near his barracks in Woolwich, southeast London on May 22.

6 die in southern Chihuahua

Rantburg.com

A total of six individuals have died in ongoing drug and gang related violence in southern Chihuahua state, according to Mexican news reports.

On Tuesday reports reached the delegate for the Chihuahua state Fiscalia General del Estado (FGE) or attorney general that a shootout between rival gangs had left six dead in Guadalupe y Calvo municipality.

According to a report which appeared in the online edition of El Diario de Chihuahua news daily, an anonymous tip was phoned in Sunday about the gunfight, but security forces were not able to reached the area, said to be near Mesa de la Reforma, which is now a trouble spot for drug gang violence including kidnapping in Guadalupe y Calvo municipality. Drug gangs are known to put up roadblocks in that region specifically to press any captured male victims traveling through the area into service.

In the location of the shootout, according to a separate news account which appeared in the website of EL Diario de Coahuila news daily, some of the dead were found clothed in the uniforms of Chihuahua state police agents. Chihuahua state Policia Estatal Unica and ministerial agents had been unable to reach the area due to heavy rains and flooding until Tuesday morning. The shootout was said to have taken place Sunday afternoon.

At the scene of the shootout, police found 389 spent cartridge casings for AK-47 rifles as well as a 1999 GMC pickup truck damaged from gunfire. Two of the six dead were identified as Cristian Noriel Mendivil Carrillo, 20, of Dolores, and Isaac Gutierrez Gutierre, 19, of La Mesa de Reforma. Two of the six victims had been beheaded though the report failed to note if the two identified victims were the victims who had been mutilated.

Police also found six buildings damaged by fire in a nearby abandoned area and they seized seven vehicles.

10 die as violence explodes in southern Tamaulipas after Z-40 detention

For a map, click here. For a map of tamaulipas state, click here

At least 10 unidentified individuals have been killed and several more wounded in southern Tamaulipas state in the aftermath of the capture of Los Zetas leader Miguel Angel Treviño Morales, AKA Z-40, according to Mexican news reports.

An APRO wire dispatch which appeared in the online edition of El Diario de Coahuila news daily said that operatives of the Gulf Cartel had been firing indiscriminately over a two day period at residents of ejido Fe del Golfo in Jimenez municipality last Sunday.

According to the report several Gulf Cartel shooters arrived at the ejido and ordered residents to leave, firing on them as they did.

The reason why the ejido was ordered to vacate was not clear. The Gulf Cartel maintains a logistics and training camp in the region said to house as many as 100 shooters. The camp is so large, according to the report, that Mexican Army and Tamauliupas state security troops refuse to enter the area. Abasolo municipality is also reportedly another no go zone for federal and state security elements.

Turkish Troops Kill Civilian Trying To Cross Into Syria
[Ynet] Turkish security forces killed a civilian when they returned fire on a group of people trying to cross illegally from Turkey into Syria, the Turkish military said on Tuesday, as tensions increase along the border.

The group of eight civilians had been trying to cross from Turkey's Hatay province into northwestern Syria on Monday afternoon and opened fire on the Turkish border patrol after the troops had sounded an audible warning, it said. Iraq
Attacks Kill 14 People in Iraq
[ABCNEWS.GO] Insurgents assaulted a police headquarters in northern Iraq early Wednesday, killing nine coppers as part of a series of attacks that left at least 14 dead as the country grapples with a growing surge of violence.

The attack took place in the town of Bashmaya outside the city of djinn-infested Mosul, which has been one of the major flashpoints in a wave of bloodshed that has washed over the country since April and left more than 3,000 people dead. The scale of the violence is intensifying fears of a return to the widespread sectarian killing that pushed the country to the brink of civil war after the 2003 U.S.-led invasion.

A police official said nine coppers were killed and two maimed in the initial attack. An ambulance rushing to the scene was hit by a roadside kaboom, wounding the driver and his assistant, the official said.

A medical official confirmed the casualty figures. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not allowed to talk to the media.

Insurgents this year have regularly attacked security forces in djinn-infested Mosul, a longtime Death Eater stronghold.

[AnNahar] Bombs targeting worshipers gathered for evening prayers at three Sunni mosques in Iraq killed nine people on Tuesday, officials said.

, killing two people and wounding nine.

Special extended evening prayers are held during the holy Moslem fasting month of Ramadan, which began two weeks ago.

Both Sunni and Shiite places of worship have been attacked in recent months, raising fears of a return to the all-out sectarian conflict that killed tens of thousands of people in past years.

With the latest attacks, more than 630 people have been killed in violence so far this month, making July the deadliest month in a year marked by spiraling violence.

Violence Kills 159 As Intense Air Raids Hit Targets Across Syria
[AnNahar] Warplanes and helicopter gunships carried out intense air raids across Syria on Tuesday as fighting raged in and around the capital between regime and rebel forces, a watchdog said.

The raids killed five people in the town of Tabqa in the northern province of Raqa, and six others, including two women and three children, in Sermin in the northwestern province of Idlib, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The air force also battered the southern province of Daraa, Homs in central Syria and Aleppo in the north, including the town of Khan al-Assal which rebels claimed to have captured on Monday, the Observatory said.

Five other people were died when artillery rounds struck Douma, a satellite suburb northeast of Damascus, where violence killed another seven people, including two children.

In the south of the capital, troops pounded the Paleostinian refugee camp of Yarmuk for the third consecutive day while regime forces and rebels were locked in fierce fighting inside the camp, the Observatory said.

Government forces also shelled neighborhoods in the south, east and north of Damascus.

On Monday at least 159 people were killed in violence across Syria, said the Observatory, which relies on a network of activists and medics on the ground for its information.

Suspect Linked To Masnaa Bombing Of Hizbullah Convoy Arrested
[AniNahar] The army succeeded on Monday in arresting a suspect linked to the bombing of a Hizbullah convoy near the al-Masnaa border-crossing on July 16, reported the National News Agency on Tuesday.

It said that the army intelligence jugged
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
a Syrian national in the Bekaa town of Majdal Anjal on suspicion of planting the explosive that targeted the convoy.

It identified the suspect as A.H., who hails from the Syrian city of al-Zabadani.

Two people were maimed in a kaboom against a Hizbullah convoy that was traveling towards the Lebanese border-crossing with Syria on July 16.

One vehicle was struck by the kaboom near the al-Masnaa border-crossing, while the other vehicles in the convoy escaped the attack and continued along the road.

The bombing is the fourth time that a vehicle has been targeted by an bomb in the Bekaa region, which is a stronghold of Hizbullah.

On July 7, three people were maimed, including two army troops when two bombs went kaboom! in the area.

That attack followed a similar blast on June 28, when two small bombs hit a Hizbullah convoy in the area, detonating as four cars passed, a security source said.

Hizbullah has dispatched fighters to battle alongside the Syrian regime against rebels seeking the overthrow of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Supressor of the Damascenes...
The party had justified its intervention in Syria by saying it was backing popular committees defending Lebanese-inhabited towns in Syrian territory near Leb's border from attacks by rebels and krazed killers. It had also admitted that its fighters were guarding Shiite holy shrines in Damascus province.
