Residents flee Hudur after al-Shabaab takeover
Fear and uncertainty have settled over Hudur in southwestern Somalia since al-Shabaab re-took the town from retreating Somali and Ethiopian forces on March 17th.

About 2,000 Hudur residents have fled from the returning terrorists militants, who had blockaded the town and cut off food supplies since allied forces forced al-Shabaab to relinquish control of the Bakol regional capital in March 2012.

Upon entering Hudur, al-Shabaab officials assembled the town's few remaining residents, assuring them they had nothing to fear. The next day, the terrorists militants brutally killed the town's most prominent cleric, 75-year-old Sheikh Abdirahman Moalin Warsame. They also reportedly killed two other residents, including a woman they accused of working for the government.

Although the terrorists militants told residents to stay calm and go about their normal business, Abdi Yonis, a 34-year-old who attended the public assembly, called al-Shabaab's promises an insincere ploy to allay residents' fears and discourage them from fleeing. He said, "So far they have arrested four people, including a woman. The rest of the people are afraid and are wondering what they will do next."

Muna Ali, a 27-year-old mother of two, said the situation in town has changed drastically in a matter of a few days, with fear gripping the city's population.

Ali said that since al-Shabaab's arrival, schools and markets have closed because people are not leaving their homes. She said, "I never thought I would see a situation like this in Hudur. Fear and loneliness is everywhere."

Mustafa Ahmed, 35, described the discovery of children living in houses alone after their parents abandoned them, fearing the arrival of al-Shabaab. He said, "An estimated 300 al-Shabaab fighters armed with light weapons entered the city. They have about 10 vehicles with them, some of which are armoured. Most of them are young people. There are also some foreign fighters among the occupiers, but their number is unclear."

Fadumo Ibrahim, a 35-year-old mother of five, said she fled with her family to El Barde, a town 90 kilometers to the north. Ibrahim and her family, along with others, had to walk for three days without food or water before reaching El Barde.

She said, "We all feared al-Shabaab would accuse us of working for the [Somali] government," adding that before allied forces left the town, terrorists militants would routinely harass locals saying that anyone who stayed in Hudur was an accomplice to the government.

The withdrawal of Somali and Ethiopian troops from Hudur has caused concerns about a broader pull-out of Ethiopian forces from the Bay and Bakol regions, including from the strategically important town of Baidoa.

Nonetheless, the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) said in a statement on Thursday that that it was working closely with the Somali government to re-establish security in the area.

Somali Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon condemned the sheikh's murder and said the government was planning to retake Hudur. He said, "This barbaric act will do nothing to stop us from moving forward and we are now working flat out with Somali National Forces, together with our partners, to retake the town. We will prevail."

Tripoli airport attackers sentenced
[Libya Herald] Seven men found guilty of the attack last year on Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
International Airport were each handed prison sentences of two and a half years by Tripoli Military Court yesterday, Thursday.

Twelve others involved in the attack who are still being sought were sentenced in absentia to five years in jail.

On 4 June, last year, 200 members of Tarhouna's Al-Awfia brigade seized control of the aiport in retaliation for the abduction of its commander, Abu-Alija Habshi, the previous day. After sporadic festivities that lasted less than an hour, the Awfeya Brigade surrendered to the Union of the Revolutionaries of Tripoli.

Africa Subsaharan
Boko Haram: Police arrest 200 illegal immigrants in Lagos
[SUNNEWSONLINE] The Lagos State police command has tossed in the clink
You have the right to remain silent...
more than 200 undocumented Democrats across the state.

Those arrested were mostly Chadians, Cameroonian, Sudaneses and Nigeriens. The raid, Saturday Sun learnt was carried out in response to the recent discovery of suspected members of an Islamist fundamentalist sect, Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
in Ijora, a densely populated area of Lagos.

Acting on a tip-off, soldiers numbering about 100, assisted by men of the State Security Service, stormed the hide-out of the terror suspects in Ijora. They were said to have arrived in the area around 7am in search of the suspects said to be members of the sect.

Saturday Sun investigation revealed that their search yielded fruits as five persons were arrested and a bomb kept in a cooler and hidden in the ceiling of one of the rooms in Musa's apartment was recovered by the soldiers.
"You wanta explain this, Musa?"
"It's fer personal use."

A security source, who craved anonymity, added that the raid was as a result of an investigation which began a month ago.
"Pssst! Is dis da Lagos cop shoppe? Lissen, dis is Mahmoud da Weasel..."
He said: "Security agents got information a month ago that there was a terrorist hideout in the Seven-Up area of Ijora. Although we were not sure if they were Boko Haram members or not, we did not want to take any chances, so we decided to go and raid the place.

"It was discovered that the place was being run by a Chadian, and arms recovered during the raid, included AK-47 rifles. Investigations are ongoing and those who are found not culpable will be released."
"What's with the AKs, Musa?"
"We're Moslems. We have to wave them around and holler at least twice a week. It's in the Koran somewhere. You could look it up."

On the raid, a police source explained: "Since the suspects arrested on Thursday were foreigners, the command decided to go after foreigners in these terrorist- prone areas especially, the undocumented Democrats in their midst.

"It is outrageous the number of undocumented Democrats in the country who have no meaningful source of livelihood. We hope to get a link to the recent threat by the dreaded sect to infiltrate Nigeria."

He, however, said that there would be careful screening to ensure the legitimate immigrants are not affected.
"... Book 'im, Danno! Next!... Name?"
"Mahmoud."
"Nationality?"
"Guatamalan."
"Profession?"
"Crook."
"Can you prove dat?"
"Here's my Wanted poster."
"Hmmm... Dat looks like you. Get outta here. Next!..."

As at press time, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, DSP Ngozi Braide said that she could not ascertain the number of foreigners arrested but assured that the police was doing all within the ambit of the law to stop the infiltration of criminals into the country.

On the porosity of the borders that led to the influx of immigrants, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State command, Nigeria Immigration Service, Mr. Muyiwa Odunubi said that the command was not aware of the mass arrest of undocumented Democrats. He, however, said that NIS was working together with sister agencies to ensure that such persons, if found, would face the wrath of the law.

Meanwhile,
...back at the chili cook-off, Chuck reached for the green sauce...
the General Secretary of the Nigerien community in Lagos, said that they were aware of the mass arrest of its nationals in Ikorodu and other areas. "We have pleaded with them to authenticate their stay in Nigeria but some of them, for some dubious reasons, decided not to identify with their people in Nigeria. We have a close contact with the activities of Nigeriens in Nigeria that have authentic residence permit."

Meanwhile,
...back at the laboratory the smoke and fumes had dispersed, to reveal an ominous sight...
a little drama ensued in Ketu area of Lagos, when some thugs descended on a group of Chadians living in the area. They alleged that their decision to flush those Chadians out their neighbourhood was out of fear that soldiers would extend their raid to the area.

An eyewitness, Shola said that the boys who, are mostly hoodlums, were scared that if the police or army should raid the area, things that might implicate them, would be found.

Arabia
Attempted assassination in Hadhramawt
[Yemen Post] Government officials in the eastern province of Hadhramawt confirmed a police brass hat, Hamood al-Khader was targeted late on Wednesday by unknown gunnies while on his way to Tarim police headquarters.

Tarim, an important locus for Islamic learning in the region has seen a rise in violence over the past weeks with separatist hard boyz seeking to escalate their movement.

"Masked assailants with automatic rifles targeted the vehicle carrying officer Hamood al-Khader while he was heading to the criminal police headquarters in Tarim city," a government source told the press on Thursday.

He added al-Khader managed to escape the attack unscathed.

The authorities have now launched an inquiry in the matter, actively looking to identify the assailants to have them brough to justice and tried.

Several local officials have said under cover of anonymity they believed the attack bore the marks of al-Qaeda and was not as far as their assessment went could be tied up to al-Harak (Southern Secessionist Movement).

Ever since President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi declared war on al-Qaeda by reclaiming swathes of lands the terror group seized in 2011, allowing the U.S to resume their drone campaign over Yemen and mobilizing the military, Islamist hard boyz have targeted security officers all over the country.

So far over 74 high ranking officers have been murdered, one for every drone strike it seems.

Clashes with al-Qaeda in Abyan
[Yemen Post] Officials in the southern Yemeni province of Abyan
...a governorate of Yemen. The region was a base to the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army terrorist group until it dropped the name and joined al-Qaeda. Its capital is Zinjibar. In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirate after seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues...
confirmed on Thursday a pro-government tribal militia had successfully conducted a raid against a terror near the village of al-Qafr, in the state's ongoing efforts to rid Yemen from Death Eater Islamists.

According to preliminary reports several tribal fighters were maimed in the festivities.

Ever since 2011, tribes have joined in with the military to support a national counter-terror initiative, using their men and knowledge of the area to track down terror cells and crack down on snuffies in Yemen southern provinces, enabling the military to free some much needed resources.

The People's Protectors as they are often called have so far foiled al-Qaeda many attempts to recapture territories in Abyan, forcing further into hidings the group's militias.

With Yemen National Dialogue Conference in full swing, the Defense and Interior ministries are both keeping a close eye on all security related incidents, determined to contain any threat.

In a related incident a security officer was target in the eastern province of Hadhramawt, in what appears to be a al-Qaeda-led liquidation attack. The officer, Hamood al-Khader thankfully escaped unscathed.

Fears are that al-Qaeda will use the NDC and the mobilization an additional 60,000 troops in the capital, Sana'a to destabilize less militarized areas and regain footing in the impoverished nation.

Back in 2011, al-Qaeda used the popular uprising and a vacuum of power to seize large sawthes of lands in the province of Abyan. It managed to turn Jaar and Zinjibar into Islamic caliphates, forcing thousands of civilians to flee their homes.

Shiites Protest in Bahrain Demanding Democracy
[An Nahar] Thousands of Shiites demonstrated in Bahrain on Friday to demand democratic reforms in the Gulf kingdom ruled by a Sunni dynasty, witnesses said.

"Khalifa! Step down," chanted protesters, referring to Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman, an uncle of King Hamad
...King of Bahrain (since 14 February 2002), having previously been its emir (from 6 March 1999). He is a Sunni, while the rest of Bahrain is predominantly Shiite...
who has been in office since 1971 and is widely despised by the country's Shiite majority, they said.

The Shiite-led opposition has repeatedly demanded the prime minister be elected.

"Bahrain is in need of a large political plan... that takes the country into a new stage based on the rule of the people, not the rule of one family," opposition groups said in a statement following the protest in the village of Bilad al-Qadeem, southwest of Manama.

The opposition has joined a national dialogue with the government and other factions aimed at ending the kingdom's political crisis, but no breakthrough has yet emerged from talks that began last month.

Bangladesh
Fresh attack on Hindus
[Bangla Daily Star] At least 15 Hindus, including a freedom fighter and three women, were beaten up in a hate attack on their neighbourhood in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat on Thursday night.

In another incident, unidentified criminals set fire to a temple in sadar upazila of Gazipur district early yesterday, damaging four idols.

In Lalmonirhat, a gang of 10 went to the house of freedom fighter Amulya Chandra Roy, 62, around 9:00pm on Thursday and started beating him indiscriminately, reported our correspondent in the district, quoting police.

As family members and neighbours went to his rescue, they too were badly beaten up. The injured were admitted to Hatibandha upazila health complex.

The attackers expeditiously departed at a goodly pace quickly.

None of the victims or community leaders would say anything about the attackers.

Speaking in return for anonymity, some locals said the neighbourhood is surrounded by Jamaat strongholds and that Jamaat-Shibir men had a hand in the attack.

Abu Bakkar Siddique Shyamol, an aide to Motahar Hossain, state minister for primary and mass education and local politician, said the anti-Liberation forces might have been behind the attack to create panic among the Hindu community.

The ruling Awami League would bear the medical expenses of those injured, he added.

Tapas Kumar Sarker, officer-in-charge of Hatibandha Police Station, told The Daily Star the police were working to identify and arrest the attackers.

A correspondent from Gazipur reports: Keshurita Maddhyapara Shree Shree Laxmimata temple in sadar upazila was torched around 3:00am yesterday.

Four idols were damaged in the arson attack. Locals rushed to the scene and put out the blaze before it could wreak more damage.

Gazipur Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Fouzia Rahman has visited the spot.

SM Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Joydevpur Police Station, said they were looking into the matter.

Jamaat man killed in clash with cops
[Bangla Daily Star] A Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. activist was killed and 23 people, including 13 coppers, were maimed in a clash between law enforcers and Jamaat-Shibir men at Joypur village of Monirampur upazila early yesterday.

The dear departed was identified as Anisur Rahman, 25, son of Ibrahim Mollah of Joypur.

Jamaat-Shibir called a half-day hartal
... a peculiarly Bangla combination of a general strike and a riot, used by both major political groups in lieu of actual governance ...
for Sunday in the upazila protesting Anisur's death and police attack on its supporters.

A 120-member team conducted raids at the village after Fajr prayers to arrest four Jamaat-Shibir activists, said Ali Azam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Monirampur Police Station.

The activists were shown accused in cases of vandalism and arson incidents in the upazila on February 28, he said.

As the police team reached the house of Fazlul Haque, amir of upazila unit of Jamaat, some Jamaat-Shibir men through a loudspeaker of a local mosque cried for help saying that some robbers attacked the village, said Mostafa Kamal, ASP of Jessore police (B circle).

Around 1,000 to 1,500 people soon encircled law enforcers and hurled brickbats at them. Police then retreated to their vehicles, which were kept 1 km off the house, firing tear gas shells and blank shots, the OC said.

"As some Jamaat-Shibir men tried to set the vehicles ablaze by throwing petrol bomb, we opened fire in the air to disperse them," he said, adding that Jamaat activist Anisur sustained bullet injuries and was struck down in his prime.

At least 10 Jamaat-Shibir men and 13 coppers sustained injuries in the clash, the OC added.

As soon as police left the spot, Jamaat-Shibir activists looted and torched three houses of local Awami League leaders, including that of Habibur Rahman Hobi, president of Dhakuria union AL.

They also vandalised 10 other houses of AL activists, locals said.

The body of Anisur, a brick kiln labourer, was sent to Jessore Medical College Hospital morgue for his appointment with Doctor Quincy.

...a former bus driver, now head of the Deobandi bandido group Lashkar-e-Islam and the Terror of Khyber Agency...
Police said four suspects were tossed into the calaboose and they were being interrogated.

A woman working for a local non-governmental organization was among the dead.

An official of the International Red Islamic Thingy told Dawn that all organizations working in the Jalozai camp had suspended their work.

Policeman, passer-by killed by bike-riders
[Dawn] policeman and a passer-by woman were killed and a community police volunteer was maimed when armed riders of a cycle of violence opened fire on a police mobile van on Shaheed-e-Millat Road on Thursday, said police officials.

They said the mobile van of the Ferozeabad cop shoppe was parked along the road near the traffic intersection close to the Baloch Colony flyover when two officials spotted the suspicious riders and signalled them to stop.

"But instead of stopping, they attacked the coppers and fired multiple shots as they sped away," said the area's sub-divisional police officer, ASP Ghulam Murtaza Malik.

"The bullets hit Constable Nazir Hussain and mobile driver Zohaib Shahid. A woman in her 30s, Rubina Dildar, who was crossing the road at that time was also caught in the crossfire and sustained a fatal bullet wound and died instantly," said ASP Malik.

He said the maimed were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where Constable Nazir, 45, died from wounds. Mr Shahid's condition was stated to be stable after surgery, he said.

The dear departed policeman was father of five and a resident of Orangi Town Sector 4-A.

Mr Shahid, 27, was associated with the community police run by the area's community with the assistance of the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee, said Sub-Inspector Qamar Zamin at the Ferozeabad cop shoppe.

"The community bears expenses of volunteers who perform different services for the area police. Mr Shahid worked as a mobile driver," he said.

Investigators suspected the attackers were armed bandidos who fired shots in panic after police signalled them to stop. All three were wearing trousers and shirts and at least two of them were armed with pistols.

"It appeared the attack was not preplanned. Three riders on a cycle of violence drew police's attention because there is a ban on pillion-riding but it turned into a deadly episode. The woman who was caught in the crossfire was a resident of Mehmoodabad and returning home from a private company where she was employed," said ASP Malik.

Iraq
Five killed in Iraq attacks
[Bangla Daily Star] Attacks in Iraq yesterday killed five people, including two anti-Qaeda militiamen, officials said, the latest in an apparent spike in violence less than a month ahead of provincial elections.

In the deadliest attack, gunnies killed Hussein Musleh and two of his sons near their home in the village of Al-Jumhuriyah in Salaheddin province, north of Storied Baghdad
...located along the Tigris River, founded in the 8th century, home of the Abbasid Caliphate...

Musleh was a leader of the Sahwa, a collection of Sunni tribal militias that sided with the US military against Al-Qaeda from late-2006, helping turn the tide of Iraq's violent insurgency.

Another Sahwa fighter was killed by gunnies using silenced weapons in restive Diyala province, also north of the capital, officials said.

Sahwa fighters are regarded as traitors by Sunni snuffies and are therefore often targets for attacks -- including Friday's attacks, 19 Sahwa fighters have been killed so far this month.

A civilian was also killed in the town of Balad, north of Storied Baghdad, by a magnetic "sticky bomb" attached to his car, according to security and medical officials.

#1  Dang I thought these guys had a chance to get it right.

Too bad the old Sunni Shia Kurdistan thing got in the way.

Methinks the only solution is to recolonize and outlaw Islam.

Southeast Asia
Abu Sayyaf frees Australian hostage
Islamic terrorists militants in the Philippines have released Australian citizen Warren Rodwell, 15 months after kidnapping him from his house in the south of the country.

Regional military commander Lieutenant General Rainier Cruz said, "Warren Rodwell has been released in Pagadian city. It is confirmed and he is now (in) the custody of the police in Pagadian city."

A photo and video taken by a reporter at the police station early Saturday showed a gaunt but smiling Warren Rodwell sitting alongside two policemen. In the video, Rodwell takes off his T-shirt and stands up to show off his body, smiling as he points to his ribs and says: "lose weight".

The kidnappers, from the Abu Sayyaf terrorist militant group, had previously released a series of video clips of Rodwell to prove he was still in their custody. In one of the videos, Rodwell said his captors wanted $2 million in ransom. It was unclear Saturday if any ransom money was paid for his release.

Al Rashid Sakalahul, the vice governor of Basilan island who negotiated with the Abu Sayyaf for Rodwell's release, said the terrorists militants called him up to confirm the hostage was freed in Pagadian. He said, "Thank God that our problem has been solved. I did what I had to do. I've done my part, my duty and my responsibility as an elected official in Basilan."

Sakalahul would not say if ransom money was paid, insisting he merely served as an intermediary. He said, "Rodwell's family directly negotiated with the kidnappers and I do not know if they paid ransom... my role was to get Rodwell out safely."

Blast kills nine-year-old, injures 12 in southern Thailand
A motorcycle bomb blew up in Pattani province yesterday, killing a nine-year-old boy and wounding 12 others just days before the official first round of peace talks between the National Security Council and the BRN-Coordinate. The talks will begin on Monday.

Police believe the blast in the heart of Pattani town was staged to create unrest in the deep South.

Nisoplian Nisani, 9, died immediately, while his mother was among the wounded.

Pattani Governor Pramuk Lamun gave his condolences to the victims' families and convened an urgent meeting with security officials. He said, "We will examine recordings from security cameras and will nail down the culprits."

About five kilograms of explosives were inside the motorcycle. The vehicle was parked in front of a bakery before the blast was triggered at around 1:40 p.m. yesterday.

Apart from casualties, the explosion damaged seven motorcycles and three cars. It also shattered the windows and doors of many buildings nearby.

Clashes Renew in Tripoli after Fragile Truce
[An Nahar] Armed festivities renewed on Friday evening on all frontiers in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, ending a fragile four-hour ceasefire, as supporters of Prime Minister Najib Miqati gathered on the streets and blocked several roads in the wake of his resignation.

Rocket-propelled grenades were fired amid heavy gunfire and sniper activity, state-run National News Agency reported.

"Supporters of PM Najib Miqati gathered at the Abdul Hamid Karami Square in Tripoli and blocked all roads leading to the roundabout, in solidarity with the PM after he submitted his resignation," NNA said.

"Army troops fired back heavily at the sources of gunfire in Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen, amid sporadic shelling with RPGs," the agency added.

The corpse count from three days of fighting in Tripoli rose to six on Friday.

Earlier on Friday, Arab Democratic Party media officer Abdul Latif Saleh told LBCI television that the party had informed the army that it will declare a unilateral ceasefire.
Kinda 1987-ish, isn't it?
Meanwhile,
...back at the Hubba Hubba Club, Nunzio had his hands full of angry bleached blonde...
the gathering of Islamic powers in al-Qobbeh and Bab al-Tabbaneh held a presser to stress that the festivities in the city are not taking place between Sunnis and Alwawites.

"These sects are the sons of a the same region. The festivities are taking place with an oppressive power that usurped the decision-making power of the Alawite sect in Tripoli," they added.

The gatherers demanded that the security forces be allowed to perform their duties in Tripoli "in order for all sides to feel that the military institution is standing at an equal distance from all sides."

They called for a ceasefire, adding: "We did not start the violence and we did not call for it."

A Lebanese soldier was among the dead in the three-day festivities.

Miqati Announces Resignation
[An Nahar] Prime Minister Najib Miqati on Friday announced his resignation after a cabinet session in which he failed to pass the extension of Internal Security Forces chief Ashraf Rifi's term and the formation of the committee to oversee the elections, stressing that all political forces must shoulder their responsibilities to "pull Leb out of the unknown."

"I'm addressing you today as a brother, hoping my speech will lead to a better security and economic situation in Leb," Miqati said in a televised address to the nation.

"I'm addressing you while my city (Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
) is bleeding and bidding farewell to deaders, the city that I always want to see at the forefront of all cities," Miqati added.

"From the very first moment I began my political career, I've been trying to seek solutions and I never hesitated in exerting efforts to protect the country," said Miqati.

The premier stressed that he exerted all efforts possible "for the sake of a free country."

"Today, while we were discussing the issue of holding the elections, I realized that renewal and pumping blood into the veins of the political life are a national duty," he said.
