Two white Britons 'killed fighting for Al Qaeda' in U.S. drone attack in Pakistan
Anyone seen Galloway the last few days?
We should be so lucky!
Two white British men who were fighting alongside Al Qaeda militants in Pakistan have been killed in a drone attack, it was reported last night.
They're the same color as their fellow targets now, charcoal black.
Same powdery texture as well.
The two men are believed to have been 'white converts' to Al Qaeda who changed their British names to Islamic ones after becoming radicalised.
Radicalized then carbonized.
They died five days ago when a Hellfire missile was fired from a remote controlled American drone in the town of Datta Khel.
"Say, Roger, do you hear a buzzing noi----"
If the reports are confirmed, the two men would be the first white British converts to have been killed in the area.
The Mail seems awfully concerned with the former skin color of the deceased traitors.
The militants were aged 48 and 25 and had been using the pseudonyms Abu Bakr and Mansoor Ahmed. It is believed one of the men was originally called Steve.
He is now known as "remains, cremated, 6.5 kilograms."
They were in a vehicle with two other fighters when they were hit by the missile. It is not known whether they were crossing the border into Afghanistan.
They were definitely crossing the border into Hell (which is very close to the NWFP)
Details of their deaths are slowly emerging following the missile strike on the Pakistan and Afghanistan borders.

It was reported that the pair had entered the area last year and had travelled to north Waziristan in the lawless tribal belt bordering Afghanistan to join Al Qaeda.
No triumphal homecoming, Michael Moore interviews, speaking tours or chubby blondes for these two now.
The Americans believe that there are around 2,000 militants in the area. These are the ones that are targeted by drone attacks because they are deemed the most dangerous.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: 'We are aware of media reports of the death of two British nationals in Pakistan.
"Now ask us if we give a damn"
'Our High Commission in Pakistan is seeking further information on these reports.' In September another British militant called Abdul Jabber, who was from Birmingham and of Asian descent, died in a drone attack in the same area.

Although not part of official defence strategy, and not acknowledged by the CIA, drone attacks have been stepped up in recent months as the United States attempts to tackle fighters who gather openly in Pakistani villages and compounds. There have been at least 25 such strikes in Pakistan since September, resulting in the deaths of around 50 people.

The tactic has caused controversy, with Afghan leaders claiming they cause indiscriminate civilian casualties.

A senior defence source said: 'There was possibly an attack on two British nationals five days ago. It is not something our military have been [dealing with] as it was out of our operating area, and there was no involvement from our side.

'The Foreign Office is investigating the reports.'

The Pentagon had no comment to make on the reported deaths last night.
Congratulations to all the zappers and targeteers. Well done.

Both were from alcoholic fathers, broken homes, had attended Harvard, held law degrees, and toured in the region as students.

I wouldn't think so, FrozenAl, given that they were merely driving through the lovely winter landscape of Datta Khel, Pakistan, at the time, not actively engaged in jihading against the infidels. Not much different than tripping over one's own feet in a drunken stupor and drowning in a nearby ditch. Surrender of two terrorists from the group of Abu Zeid in Tamanrasset
[Ennahar] The GSPC terrorist organization, led by Abdelmalek Droukdal, alias Abu Mosaab Abdelouadoud, is faced with great difficulties. Its days seem numbered, after the great sweep conducted by the army forces on all fronts.

A terrorist hunt is conducted in the bush in Kabylia, forcing some of them to surrender to the security services with the aim to benefit from the provisions of the law on national reconciliation.

The heads of the terrorist organization are circled, probably, among them the national emir of emirs Droukdal and some heads of phalanges of the central regions.

In this operation, the army has used more than 4000 soldiers and set up all the human and material resources to conduct a broad sweep in the areas of Sidi Ali Bounab and Draa El Mizane up to corpse-littered Boumerdes, Tizi Ouzou and Bouira.

Droukdal and his minions were preparing to organize a congress near Yakouren (Tizi Ouzou), in order to reactivate their activities when they were caught in a trap by the combined forces of the army.

In the south, the organization led by Mohammad Ghadir, alias Abdelhamid Abou Zeid, is also experiencing great difficulties. According to information gathered by Ennahar from concordant sources, two members of the group of Abu Zeid, reportedly surrendered to the security services in the region of Izekra (Tamanrasset) in the border between Algeria and Niger, following a series contacts by the security services, with the families of these last, to convince them to surrender and benefit from the provisions of national reconciliation which is still in force.

This is (A. Benkachim) from the province of Batna and (S. Hekas) from the province of El Oued.

The two gun-hung tough guys were on board a (Station 4x4) car when they surrendered. They dropped their weapons, a Kalashnikov and an "F.M". The surrender of these two gun-hung tough guys comes just days after the arrest of three gun-hung tough guys in the region, sent on mission by Droukdal.

The army forces have also succeeded a few days ago, to eliminate seven (7) dangerous gun-hung tough guys in the southern regions near the border with Mali.

Senegal recalls envoy to Iran
[Al Jazeera] Senegal has recalled its ambassador to Iran over an arms scandal in which military-grade weapons were shipped into the region allegedly bound for neighbouring Gambia.

Madicke Niang, the Senegalese foreign minister, made the announcement in a statement on Tuesday, saying the explanations Iran had given for the affair were "not satisfactory".

"True to the need for peace and security which should guide ties between states, and deeming unsatisfactory the explanations provided by the Iranian side in this affair, Senegal has decided to recall its ambassador to Iran for consultations as of today," the statement said.

Senegalese analysts have said the arms may have been bound for Senegal's restive southern Casamance region, where rebels have waged a low-level uprising against the government since 1983.

The Senegalese move comes just one day after Manouchehr Mottaki, the Iranian foreign minister, was sacked while on a two-day visit to the West African state, partly to explain the affair.

Artillery rockets and other weapons loaded in shipping containers labeled as building supplies were seized in October at a port in Lagos, Nigeria.

Nigerian authorities have charged an Iranian national for attempting to import prohibited weapons with the intent of sending them to nearby Gambia, which has since severed all diplomatic ties with Iran.

Al-Qud's link?

The seizure in Lagos prompted two Iranians to seek refuge in Iran's embassy in Abuja, the Nigerian capital. Diplomats and security sources identified the two as members of Iran's al-Quds force, the foreign operations unit of its Revolutionary Guard.

The purpose of the shipment remains unclear.

Before Gambia abruptly severed all ties with Iran, it had hosted Mahmoud Short Round Ahmadinejad, the Iranian president, on a number of visits and had economic, agricultural and security ties.

Iran has existing trade ties with Senegal and in May offered to carry out infrastructure projects including road, railway, port and airport construction.

Reasons behind Mottaki's abrupt sacking were not given but analysts suggested it tightened Ahmadinejad's grip on foreign policy and was a demonstration of his political power.

#1  Senegalese analysts have said the arms may have been bound for Senegal's restive southern Casamance region, where rebels have waged a low-level uprising against the government since 1983.

Part of the shipment perhaps. I suspect most if not all of the arms were bound for Gambia, for further shipment to Mali.

#2  If you look at the map of Senegal, you will see that the Senegal River is the first navigable waterway south of the Sahara. The French glommed this river valley as an entry to the interior. Britain glommed the Gambia River valley, which is the next good-sized waterway south. The Casamance River valley is the third navigable river.

Between the Senegal and Gambia rivers, the country is dry and hot and not much grows there except goats, scrubland, and peanuts. The Gambia marks the beginning of the arable land, and the Casamance feeds most of Senegal.

The desert part of Senegal is mostly Muslim, with a heavy dollop of folk religion. The Marabouts combine the spiritual authority of an imam with the local authority of a shaman. The Casamance peoples have mostly folk religion, with a number of Catholics and a handful of Evangelicals.

Not surprisingly, the Senegalese govt (whose president is 86, going senile, and cozying up to the North Koreans) is making life difficult for the folks in the Casamance for tribal, religious, and other irrational causes. This explains why the Casamance is "restive".

[Yemen Post] Sultan Al-Atwani, a leader in the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) was attacked by gunnies in Hadda district of the capital.

Sources said that gunnies driving a Toyota vehicle attacked Al-Atwani while he stopped at a street round. They started hitting him and his body guards.

Al-Atwani was maimed and taken immediately to a hospital.

In return, the JMP's issued a statement against the attack, saying that it was carried out by the ruling party General People's Congress (GPC).

Bangladesh
IOJ chief held over Huji link
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) yesterday nabbed Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury, president of a faction of the Islami Oikya Jote
... a political party in Bangladesh. In the 2001 elections the party won 2 out of 300 elected members in an alliance with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. It has a focus on building an islamic state, and has used the madrassas to gain support...
(IOJ) for his alleged involvement with a banned Islamic exemplar outfit, Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJI).
Founded in 1984 by Fazlur Rehman Khalil and Qari Saifullah Aktar. The Bangla branch was established in 1992 with assistance from Osama bin Laden. Recruits come mostly from Deobandi madrassahs. HuJI and Fazlur Rehman Khalil are signators of bin Laden's declaration of war on the west.

A team of Rab, led by Commanding Officer Lt Col Sazzad Hussain and Major Samad, second-in-command of Rab-7 nabbed Mufti from a madrasa at Lalkhan Bazar around 4:30pm.

"We have evidence and documents proving his involvement with HuJI's militancy," Lt Col Sazzad told The Daily Star.

"Mufti Izhar did not show up at our headquarters last Monday, despite being officially summoned," Sazzad added.

Mufti had organised a presser at his madrasa around 12:30pm yesterday where he claimed the five HuJI members jugged at a hilltop training camp at Raozan last Monday to be "pious men and followers of Allah" alleged the Commander of Rab-7.

Following the arrest of the IOJ faction chief, some of his madrasa students attempted to bring out a procession on the road at Lalkhan Bazar but police and Rab forces dispersed them.

According to a reliable witness who had attended the conference, the Mufti denied the allegation of those men being HuJI members and claimed one of the detainees, Abul Kalam, to be a Public Relation Officer of his party.

He blamed 'over-enthusiastic' law enforcers to have 'fabricated the identity' of the arrestees to tarnish the image of the government.

The fact that they were jugged from a deep forest of Raozan was a lie, he claimed, saying, the whole drama staged to harass the olamas (Islamic scholars and thinkers)

Mufti also said Salauddin Hossainee, one of the arrestees was captured by some plainclothes men on 9 October from Sat Masjid Road, Dhaka and not from Chittagong, as claimed by the law enforcers.

Earlier in November, detective branch (DB) of police jugged Mufti Izharul's son Mufti Harun Izhar and two of his associates for their alleged link to another Islamic exemplar outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Harun is now on bail and his cohorts were allegedly planning to attack the US embassy in Dhaka and other establishments, said DB officials.

Meanwhile,
...back at the ranch...
the IOJ and Bangladesh Nejame Islam Party, in a joint blurb in the evening condemned the arrest of their chief and warned to forge a movement against the government if Mufti Izharul was not released immediately.

[Pak Daily Times] A Pak man planned to bomb Manchester city centre in northern England as part of a wider al Qaeda plot to carry out attacks in Britain, the United States and Norway, a London court was told on Wednesday. London's City of Westminster Court, which is overseeing his extradition case, was told Naseer, 24, was suspected of being part of a cell plotting an attack in Manchester, possibly on its main shopping centre.

Former N. Korean 'Military Interpreter' Held in Russia
A man who says he was an interpreter for the North Korean military before he fled the Stalinist country is expected to make it to South Korea at last, the Kyodo news agency reported Tuesday citing an official at the UN High Commission for Refugees. The man, identified only as Choi (41), fled across the border to eastern Russia in September last year and applied for asylum there.

A diplomatic source in Moscow said Choi left Vladivostok on Dec. 9 and is staying in a safe house in Moscow. It has not been decided when he will arrive in South Korea.

According to Kyodo, Choi sneaked into the Russian Maritime Province of Primorsky Krai in September last year but was arrested by the Russians. In November he was sentenced to six months in prison for illegally entering the country.

During the trial, Choi described himself as a staffer in an industry-related office in North Korea but later claimed that was his nominal title and he was in fact a Russian interpreter with the North Korean chiefs of staff. But a South Korean government official said Choi was an interpreter for a North Korean company tasked with earning hard currency.

Choi told Kyodo the North Korean regime "makes people suffer. People are executed or sent to labor camps all the time, and most ordinary people are starving." He claimed he "wanted to contribute to changing the situation from outside."

2 LeJ terrorists arrested in Karachi
[Pak Daily Times] Keeping up with the Crime Investigation Department, which had jugged a Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistain Islamic exemplar on Tuesday, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) and the Orangi Town police jugged two Lashkar-e-Jhangvi
... a 'more violent' offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain. LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. They are currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of al-Qaeda ...
(LeJ) cut-throats in different raids on Wednesday.

The SIU claimed to have jugged a suspected Islamic exemplar from Ayub Goth with a huge cache of ammunition and explosives, as well as enough material to prepare two suicide jackets.

The suspect, identified as Imamuddin alias Maviya, was reportedly planning to carry out a car boom attack together with three of his accomplices on the Ashura processions.

A senior SIU officer said the arrest was a major breakthrough, which would help in ensuring security during Muharram.

The investigation unit is making all-out efforts to arrest Shaukat Sardar, who has a head money of Rs 500,000, Qasim Rasheed alias Ganja, Shamim alias Shani, and Rashid.

The nabbed Islamic exemplar, who was wanted in several criminal cases, disclosed during initial investigation that he was involved in the Sheraton Hotel blast and Allama Hassan Turabi's murder. Sources claimed that Imamuddin was jugged from PIB Colony a few days ago, but the SIU had disclosed his arrest on Wednesday.

[Pak Daily Times] Iraqi authorities have obtained confessions from captured forces of Evil who claim al Qaeda is planning suicide kabooms in the United States and Europe during the Christmas season, two bigwigs said on Wednesday.

Iraqi Interior Minister Jawad al-Bolani told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that the botched bombing in central Stockholm last weekend was among the alleged plots the forces of Evil revealed. Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, in a telephone interview from New York, called the claims "a critical threat."

Both al-Bolani and Zebari said Iraq has informed Interpol of the alleged plots, and alerted authorities in the US and European countries of the possible danger. Neither official specified which country or countries in Europe are alleged targets. Western counterterrorism officials generally are on high alert during the holiday season, especially since last year's failed attack by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab.

Al-Bolani said several forces of Evil claimed to be part of a cell that took orders directly from al Qaeda's central leadership.

The confessions were the result of recent operations by Iraqi security forces, al-Bolani said. Links between al Qaeda's central leadership and the terror organisation's front group in Iraq are tenuous as the local branch in recent years has been run by local snuffys.

But al-Bolani said the claims - if true - show al Qaeda remains a presence in Iraq.

Rebels in Philippines kill 10
[Straits Times] COMMUNIST rebels waging a decades-long insurgency in the Philippines killed 10 soldiers as the troops were returning to camp to observe a Christmas truce, the military said on Wednesday.

Tuesday's attack by the New People's Army (NPA) on the central island of Samar came 48 hours before an 18-day ceasefire was to take effect, and as the opposing sides were preparing for a resumption of peace talks in February.

'They took advantage of the announcement of the ceasefire. The soldiers were pulling out of the area and they were treacherously ambushed,' the soldiers' commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Noel Vestuir, told AFP.

'We will obey the suspension of military operations order, but our troops are now on pursuit operations with the help of police.' The communist New People's Army launched its uprising in 1969, and thousands of people have been killed throughout what has become one of Asia's longest-running insurgencies.

Tuesday's attack was the deadliest this year by the NPA, which has about 5,000 armed followers.

Mr Vestuir said two other soldiers were maimed in Tuesday's ambush, which took place as the troops were hiking in mountainous terrain to their barracks.
