Sea pirates seize two ships off Kenyan coast
(Itar-Tass) -- Sea pirates have seized two vessels, including a tanker with Ukrainian crewmembers, off the Kenyan coastline, the command of the EU Operation Atalanta in the Indian Ocean reported on Sunday.

The pirates attacked the Singapore-flagged York LNG ship chartered by a Greek company and the Golden Wave fishing trawler.

The tanker carrying 150,000 tonnes of liquefied natural gas from the Kenyan port of Mombasa to the Seychelles has 17 crewmembers -- a German captain, two Ukrainians and 14 Filipinos.

The York was attacked about 50 nautical miles away from Mombasa on Saturday. A Turkish warship from the Atalanta force confirmed the information. The warship's helicopter flew over the seized tanker and also noticed the seized trawler.

According to Interunity Management Corporation, which chartered the tanker, the crewmembers are OK.

22 die in battle for Mogadishu
[Iran Press TV] Heavy clashes between Somali government troops and al-Shabaab fighters have left at least 22 people dead and 37 others maimed in Mogadishu.

The victims -- mostly civilians -- bit the dust early on Saturday in battles in which government troops backed by African Union peacekeepers gained control of Mogadishu's northern districts, which were previously controlled by al-Shabaab fighters. Fierce firefights continued all of Friday night until the crack of dawn on Saturday in the Boondheere, Karaan, and Shibis districts of northern Mogadishu, the Press TV correspondent in Mogadishu reported.

In addition, al-Shabaab fighters killed four men in Mogadishu under the pretext that they were collecting information for government security forces and African Union peacekeeping troops, known as AMISOM. Al-Shabaab has issued a warning that it is planning a "massive war" against African Union troops in Mogadishu.

The International Committee of the Red Thingy (ICRC) said on Thursday that hundreds of civilians have been injured in fighting in Somalia over recent months.

The Geneva-based humanitarian institution said that a total of 5,000 patients with war injuries, including 1,900 women and kiddies, were admitted to Mogadishu's Keysaney and Medina hospitals from January through September.

Compared to last year, it is an increase of 25 percent in the total number of war casualties and 72 percent in the number of war-maimed women and kiddies admitted to the hospitals.

Some 4,000 patients with war injuries, among them 1,100 women and kiddies, were taken to Mogadishu's two referral hospitals in 2009.

Somalia has not had a functioning government since 1991, when warlords overthrew former dictator Mohamed Siad Barre.

Over the past two decades, up to one million people have bit the dust in fighting between rival factions and due to famine and disease.

There are more than 1.4 million internally displaced people (IDPs) in Somalia. Over 300,000 of the IDPs are sheltered in Mogadishu.

Most of the displaced live in poor and degrading conditions on makeshift sites in southern and central Somalia, according to the United Nations, aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society High Commissioner for Refugees.

Arabia
Yemen says launching manhunt for Qaeda in Shabwa
[Al Arabiya] Yemen said on Sunday it had launched a manhunt for al-Qaeda in its southern Shabwa province, the same day a U.S.-born Mohammedan holy man sought by Washington and thought to be hiding in that area appeared in an online video.

Late on Saturday, U.S.-based terrorism monitoring service SITE Institute released a video tape showing Anwar al-Awlaki sitting at a table in traditional Yemeni garb and delivering a religious lecture in Arabic.

Yemeni security forces and local tribes began combing the mountainous Said district in Shabwa for al-Qaeda cut-throats on Saturday morning, a security official in Shabwa told Rooters. Primitives of Awlaki's own tribe were helping with the search, the official said.

The Shabwa governor and the Awlaki clan have signed a deal under which they would "expel al-Qaeda elements from their territories and mount a joint operation with the army (to do so)," he added.

Washington accuses Awlaki of being a leading al-Qaeda figure with links to a failed bombing of a U.S.-bound plane in December 2009 and to an army major who went on a shooting spree that killed 13 people last year at Fort Hood in Texas.

The U.S. Treasury has blacklisted Awlaki as a "specially designated International Man of Mystery™", a move that freezes any assets he may have under U.S. jurisdiction.

Earlier this year, the United States authorized the CIA to capture or kill him.

On Oct. 11, four people were killed after two bombs went kaboom! at a sports stadium in Aden. The trial of 10 suspects in the attack began in Aden on Sunday.

SITE said the video featuring Awlaki, which was less than two minutes long, had been posted on an Islamist website used by cut-thoats. The footage appeared to be a fragment of a longer recording, the date of which was unclear.

Washington and neighboring top oil exporter Soddy Arabia fear Yemen's resurgent al-Qaeda wing may use the increasingly unstable country to launch attacks in the region and beyond.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Three Palestinian workers injured in building explosion in Nablus
(KUNA) -- Three Paleostinian workers on Sunday were maimed in an kaboom in a building in downtown Nablus in the northern West Bank.

Paleostinian police said in a statement that the kaboom was caused by remnants of the Israeli occupation as the three workers were maimed while working in the removal of the rubble of the building that was shelled by Israel in 2002 when the Israeli authorities re-occupied Nablus.
Darlings, you really need to move more quickly on this kind of thing -- eight years is a bit long to wait. Perhaps the PA ought to use some of the latest tranch of American money signed over by President Obama to hire and train more building inspectors... or more construction workers.
Police said the three Paleostinian workers were taken to hospital for treatment, descring their wounds as moderate and slight.

Intelligence and police began investigating the incident following closure of the incident scene to secure the lives of citizens.

Nablus came under heavy Israeli bombardment in 2002 that led to the destruction of a large number of buildings.

Men held over Philippines bombing
[Al Jazeera] Security forces in southern Philippines have jugged five suspects in connection with a bus bombing last week that killed at least 10 people and maimed nine others.

An army front man said four of the suspects were captured on Saturday in a raid in Cotabato city on the southern island of Mindanao.

A 15-year-old boy who was jugged earlier had provided information that led to the arrest of his alleged accomplices, Lieutenant-Colonel Benjamin Hao, the regional army front man, said.

The bus was travelling with 50 passengers on board on Thursday when a bomb struck the vehicle in Matalam township in North Cotabato province.

The five suspects were being questioned, and it was unclear whether they were affiliated with any of several Mohammedan bands of Islamic bandidos that were initially blamed for the attack.

Officials earlier said the bus company had received extortion demands from bands of Islamic bandidos in the in the area, which is a known stronghold of the separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front (Milf) and other gangs.

The Milf has denied involvement in the bus attack, but police and military officials say many of its former members were known to be working alongside armed extortionists targeting businessmen in the country's south.

Officials investigating the bombing have not ruled out involvement of the Abu Sayyaf group, which is said to have links to al-Qaeda and also operates in the south.

Separatists in southern Philippines have been fighting for an independent homeland for decades. The region is also home to criminal gangs.

In April last year, two home-made bombs went kaboom! hours apart on a bus in the same region, wounding the conductor and five passengers.

A bomb went kaboom! at a Cotabato city bus terminal in February the same year, wounding two people.
