2 Taliban Commanders Arrested in S. Afghanistan
[Tolo News] Two Taliban commanders and 8 forces of Evil were jugged in joint operations conducted by Afghan and coalition forces in the southern Zabul province

In the operations that were conducted in Qalat, the scenic provincial capital of Zabul, Afghan and coalition forces had no casualties, a NATO Press Release said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the ranch...
NATO forces say they have killed a top Taliban capo charged with carrying out attacks in the Afghan capital Kabul. Noor Mohammad, a top Taliban commander who had planned to conduct attacks in Kabul ahead of the Afghan parliamentary elections, was killed on Friday in NATO air-strikes, a NATO Press Release says.

Two Taliban fighters are also reportedly killed and some ammunitions and equipment used to make bombs were also seized in the battle.

Afghan and coalition forces have escalated their counter-insurgency operations in an effort to wipe out Taliban from the country's insecure areas and maintain security ahead of the Afghan parliamentary elections.

More than 1000 polling centres have been closed due to the increasing insecurity all across Afghanistan.
Total for this report: two emirs plus eight cannon fodder arrested, Noor Mohammed plus two more cannon fodder killed. No doubt other things happened behind the scenes. No casualties on our side. Not bad, not bad at all. And the locals will have to decide how they feel about being locked out of voting.

Nato denies shelling across Pakistan border
[Dawn] The US embassy in Islamabad has denied claims that Nato soldiers in Afghanistan fired mortars across the Pakistain border, killing at least three people.
They weren't morters. They were... something else. Hey -- have you seen what our latest UAVs can do?
Officials in the thug-infested Pakistain region of North Wazoo on Friday claimed shells fired by coalition forces battling Taliban fighters in the Afghan province of Khost had smashed into houses in Saidgi village.
Perhaps the Saidgians should consider not hosting the kind of people who get houses destroyed...Or perhaps they were the ones who called in the targetting coordinates.
But in a statement issued Friday, the embassy said the claims were "completely false".
"We almost always hit what we aim at," the statement explained.
"According to Nato International Security Assistance Force officials, coalition forces in Afghanistan fired no mortars into Pakistain, nor were they engaged in combat operations in the vicinity of the border area near Saidgi," the statement said.
"We, of course, know nothing of the activities of any Special Forces or other units not listed on our manifests, nor what might be happening at that cute little UAV control office Stateside."

Nato claims killing five insurgents in Afghanistan
[Dawn] A Taliban commander who planned attacking polling stations during next week's elections and four other hard boyz have been killed in eastern Afghanistan, Nato said.

The military alliance said in a statement Sunday that Nato and Afghan forces killed the five on Saturday night in a village compound in the Nangarhar province after they displayed "hostile intent".

It said intelligence reports indicated that the Taliban commander was planning to conduct rocket attacks against voting centres during the September 18 parliamentary elections. The Taliban have vowed to attack polling stations and warned Afghans not to participate in what it called a sham vote.
I recall that was tried in Iraq, too. Somehow that didn't end as the threateners planned.

Two Afghan protesters killed as Quran tensions simmer
[Dawn] Afghans rioted for the third day on Sunday despite a US pastor giving up plans to burn copies of the Koran, with three other cases of desecration of the Mohammedan holy book likely to set them off further.
How much do the amateur Afghan rioters get paid, compared to the professional Rage Boys in Pakistan and elsewhere? I think they should strike for comparable pay, so that they can properly support their families.
Two protesters were potted in eastern Logar province, a district official said, taking to three the corpse count in riots staged since Friday.

The furore over pastor Terry Jones's plans to burn copies of the Koran overshadowed the lead-up to commemorations for the Sept. 11 hijacked airliner attacks on the United States.

Word of the intention to burn the Koran had already fired up the rubes in Afghanistan and across the Mohammedan world.

President Barack B.O. Obama warned it could hurt the United States deeply abroad, endanger US troops in Afghanistan and risk attacks in US and European cities.

In Afghanistan, angry protesters chanting "Death to America™" and "Death to Christians" before clashing with security forces in Pashtun-infested Logar, south of the capital.

Seven demonstrators were maimed, one seriously,
Have you seen the competition for beggars in that part of the world? That man is set for life!
when Afghan cops opened fire to disperse hundreds of rioters marching to Pul-e-Alam, the capital of Logar, officials said.

Mohammad Rahim Amin, chief of Baraki Barak district just west of Pul-e-Alam, said two of the maimed died later in hospital.
Perhaps "set for life" was not quite the right sentiment. Hopefully their families will be able to find another means of support, while learning the appropriate lesson.

Mexican marines nab narco-jefe "El Grande"
Mexican marines have arrested Sergio Enrique Villareal Barragan, a presumed leader of the barraged Beltran Leyva drug-smuggling cartel, Mexican broadcaster Milenio said on Sunday. Villareal was a colleague of Edgar Valdez Villarreal, alias "La Barbie", a Mexican-American drug smuggler who got arrested at the end of August.

The presumed capo, also known as "El Grande" (the big one) for his six-feet-seven-inches height, was a former police officer. Local media reports said he was the current leader of the Juarez cartel, which allegedly smuggled drugs into the United States via Mexico's most violent city, Ciudad Juarez.

a) There hasn't been a "Las Cruces" (yet).

c) It's not 'Mexico' we should be at war with, at least until there's proof that the government itself is involved, not just corrupt officials.

#5  "Las Cruces"

While Las Cruces was a site of a 'massacre', it was Spanish settlers traveling north and attacked by the natives. Much like the modern tradition of posting crosses at crash sites, the memorial placed at the site gave the name to the present city.

However, I suspect you are referring to Columbus New Mexico, where elements competing for power in the Mexican Revolution, the corrupt government in Mexico City and the various outlaw groups that morphed into revolutionary fronts, crossed into the US and burned and looted. Not that those factors can be seen in play today. Nope, not here. We're too modern and sophisticated to be fooled by common human behavior patterns.

Chihuahua: Car bomb was part of a plot to attack Mexican Federal agents
Google Translate from a variety of news sources. For a map, click here.
The car bomb detonated by explosive specialists Saturday was part of a lot to attack Mexican federal agents stationed in Juarez, according to Mexican press reports.

Several armed suspects mounted an attack on Mexican Federal police headquarters near the intersection of Avenida Hermanos Escobar and Cuatro Siglos, causing a pursuit. The suspects managed to elude police.

This attack is assumed to be a diversion to draw police elements from a nearby location.

Subsequently, a call reporting executions went out at 2300 hrs Friday night, causing police to converge to the intersection of Avenida Hermanos Escobar and Avenida del Charro where two cars were found.

One car was found with an unidentified dead man aboard, while another vehicle, a Ford Escape, was found with explosives aboard.

When Mexican Army explosives experts were called the explosives were determined to be Tovex, a commercial grade of dynamite most commonly used in mining in Mexico, Tovex is also the same type used in the July car bomb attack in Juarez which killed three.

Reports say the car with the victim was intended to be a decoy with the main attack coming from the explosives ladened SUV. It is uncertain at this point how the explosives were to be detonated for the attack.

Accused Copenhagen bomber makes court appearance
(Xinhua) -- The prime suspect in a blast at Copenhagen hotel made an intial court appearance Saturday and faces a possible life sentence if convicted of explosives and weapons charges.

The Danish newswire Ritzau reported that the man was charged with trying to manufacture a bomb with the intent to cause harm to others and carrying a loaded firearm.

The suspect, whose name, nationality and ethnicity were still yet to be determined, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Danish police said that the man, who claimed that he could not remember his name or birth date, had used several identities during his stay in Denmark.

Following the hearing, the suspect was remanded to police custody.

The man was jugged in a park in central Copenhagen early Saturday after he was seen running from the hotel after the minor kaboom, which only slightly injured the suspsect.

The blast prompted the Danish intelligence agency PET to raise the terror threat level for Denmark, which has been named by several terrorist groups as a target following the 2005 publication of a caricature series of Prophet Mohammed.

In 2008, the Danish embassy in Pakistain was hit by a suicide car bomb, which killed several people, including an employee at the embassy.

Danish and American intelligence agencies last year uncovered a terrorist plot targeting the Danish daily Jyllands-Posten, which initially published the controversial cartoons.

Kashmir Korpse Kount
SRINAGAR, India - Indian security forces fired live ammunition and clashed with hundreds of separatist protesters defying an indefinite curfew clamped on Kashmir a day after huge demonstrations against New Delhi’s rule.
At least 20 people were injured.

Five were wounded when police fired live ammunition and tear gas shells in southern Kashmir to disperse a crowd hurling stones at the home of Kashmir’s education minister, Peerzada Mohammad Syed.

“Syed was inside at the time of attack, but escaped unhurt,” a senior police official said.

At least 15 people, including eight policemen, were injured in clashes between government forces and stone-throwing protesters in different parts of the Muslim-majority Kashmir Valley, police said.

In the north, protesters set fire to a school building and threw petrol bombs at a security patrol vehicle, police said.

The Indian government deployed thousands of security forces and slapped an indefinite curfew on Kashmir’s summer capital, Srinagar, on Sunday, a day after Muslims set fire to public buildings in protests against New Delhi’s rule.

The curfew extended to other big towns in the Kashmir valley.

The government has been trying to respond to the biggest separatist demonstrations in two years in Kashmir triggered by the killing of a 17-year-old student by police in June. Seventy people have died, most from police firing into protesters.

In Srinagar, troops equipped with assault rifles patrolled deserted streets in most districts and blocked off lanes with razor wire and iron barricades.

But clashes erupted in two residential districts of the town, the heart of an insurgency where tens of thousands of people have been killed in two decades of violence.

India imposes curfew in Srinagar after protests
[Dawn] India deployed thousands of security forces and slapped an indefinite curfew on Srinagar on Sunday -- a day after Mohammedans set fire to public buildings in protests against New Delhi's rule, officials said.

The Indian government has been trying to respond to the biggest separatist demonstrations in two years in Kashmir triggered by the killing of a 17-year-old student by police in June. Seventy people have died, most from police firing into protesters.

Troops equipped with assault rifles patrolled deserted streets and blocked off lanes with razor wire and iron barricades in Srinagar, the heart of an insurgency where tens of thousands of people have been killed in two decades of violence.

The curfew extended to other big towns in the Kashmir valley.

Omar Abdullah, the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, told NDTV news channel that the fresh violence in Kashmir had dealt a setback to an anticipated new government peace initiative.

"Such protests create problems for everybody else," Abdullah said. "How can you take this move forward if violence continues?"

Police have accused the region's main separatist leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, of instigating violence and arson. Farooq denied the charges.

After Eid prayers to mark the end of the Ramazan fasting month, tens of thousands marched through Srinagar on Saturday, allegedly setting fire to government and police buildings. Farooq led the main demonstration.

[Dawn] A man blew himself up in a botched suicide kaboom Sunday in Pak-administered Kashmir, an official said.
Darwin wins again.
The bomber's explosives went off as he was heading to a target in Rawalakot district, 120 kilometres south of regional capital Muzaffarabad.

"The bomber was trying to hit some sensitive installations but the explosive went off before time, when he was on his way to hit his target," Chaudhry Raqeeb, the top administrative official in Rawalakot, told AFP.

He said the bomber was identified as a local resident.

Attacks blamed mostly on the Taliban have killed more than 3,700 people across Pakistain since July 2007, concentrated in the northwest and major cities rather than the northern mountains and eastern border with India.

In a separate incident, police defused a timed device hidden in a pressure cooker in a shop after being tipped off by a local security guard in a congested market in Muzaffarabad, administrative official Chaudhry Imtiaz said.

On January 6, a boomer killed four Pak soldiers near the demarcation line with India, and officials blamed that attack on Taliban gunnies based in the northwest near the Afghan border.

Iraq
3 AQI members in Diala wound father for reporting them
DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq: An aged man was wounded by his three sons’ gunfire after reporting the security agencies about their affiliation to Al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) network west of Baaquba city on Sunday, a local security source said.

“Three AQI members in al-Hudayyeb, (3 km) west of Baaquba, injured their father after they learnt he had reported them to the security authorities,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The severely-wounded man was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment,” he said, adding his sons have escaped to an unknown place.

Meanwhile, the source said eight suspects were arrested on charges of involvement in armed clashes earlier today (Sept. 12) that left three AQI members killed and 10 policemen killed or wounded.

Hudayyeb, which lies on the road linking Baaquba to the capital Baghdad, is a key stronghold of the AQI and was until recent under the armed group’s control.

Israeli shelling kills 3 in north Gaza
(Ma'an) -- Israeli shelling killed three people including an elderly man in the northern Gazoo Strip late Sunday, witnesses said.

The bodies of shepherds Ibrahim Abu Said, 91, and Ismail Abu Odeh, 21, were taken to a hospital in Beit Hanoun, medics said. Ibrahim was apparently Ismail's grandfather.
What kind of young idiot takes his aged grandfather along when he's playing with rocket launchers? Aging grandfathers generally aren't good at the scoot portion of "shoot'n'scoot" activities. I hope Grandfather is now vigorously joining the devils beating the young lad's bottom and roasting his intestines in Hell.
An Israeli military front man said forces identified a number of suspects attempting to fire an RPG toward an Israeli position. He said forces fired on the Paleostinians, apparently hitting them.

Two projectiles landed in the western Negev hours earlier, officials from the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council said. The Israeli military said three projectiles landed in Israel on Sunday.

The armed wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine claimed to have launched six mortars toward Israel on Saturday. The Israeli military described the incident as a light exchange of fire.

Six airstrikes hit Gazoo on Friday, the first day of Eid Al-Fitr, destroying three municipal buildings in Gazoo City and two smuggling tunnels in the southern Strip at Rafah near the Egyptian border.

Israeli military officials said the strikes were in retaliation for projectiles.

Indonesian police arrest two suspects in Christian church leaders attack
(Xinhua) -- Indonesian police has jugged two people in relation to an attack against two Christian church leaders in Ciketing near the capital city of Jakarta on Sunday, a local police chief said.

"They're still suspected (in the case)," Sr. Comr. Imam Sugianto, police chief in Bekasi area, was quoted as saying by tempotinteraktif.com. However,
The infamous However...
he refused to identify the persons jugged.

Huria Kristen Batak Protestant (HKBP) leaders ST Sihombing and Rev. Luspida Simanjuntak were attacked on Sunday morning while on their way to attend a service at the church in Ciketing, Bekasi.

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has instructed Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto to immediately coordinate with the National Police to investigate and arrest the alleged perpetrators who attacked Christian church leaders.

Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Timur Pradopo said earlier the attack on the HKBP leaders was purely criminal and was not related to religious issues, despite previous attacks to the congregation by Mohammedan groups.

#1  Let the jihad, seething, rage, burning and killing begin across the Christian world against the muslims. Oh, I got that wrong. That doesn't happen. It's a one-way street in the opposite direction.

35-Year-Old Killed in Bab al-Tebbaneh Gunfight

The fighting erupted between the Issa and Arour families in the working class Bab al-Tebbaneh district of the northern port city of Tripoli.
What else would the local versions of the Hatfields and the McCoys do for fun on a Saturday night?
The dead man belonged to the Issa family.

Media reports said several people were also injured in the gunbattle.
Boys will be boys.

Iran Ready to Free Detained American Woman for ransom on Bail
[Asharq al-Aswat] Iran is prepared to release on bail a U.S. woman, one of three Americans it has held for more than a year accused of espionage, Iran's English language Press TV quoted a Tehran prosecutor as saying on Sunday.

"The American spy could be released on $500,000 bail. She is not barred from leaving Iran," the prosecutor, Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi said. "The other two detained American hikers will remain in jail."

Sarah Shourd was detained near Iran's border with Iraq at the end of July 2009 along with two males, Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal. Their families say the three were on a mountain hike in northern Iraq at the time.

Dolatabadi did not say when Shourd would be freed.

#1  The usual MO/scenario. Kidnap a hostage from the West (usually someone who wanders to that part of the world thinking they can convert the heathens or achieve peace), make noises about spying, have a mock trial, sentence the individual to a long jail term for spying, get lots of publicity, make humanitarian-like noises, ask for plenty of boodle, toy with the individual some more to try to extract propaganda for the benefit of the muslim world, let go if there is enough boodle.

#2  that is just disgusting.
not barred from leaving iran means she leaves then they say: she skipped bail the others can't be trusted. So they hike the bail money for the men.
