Afghan suicide blasts claim 7 lives
Suicide bombers killed seven people, including a leading provincial official, in two attacks in and near mosques in Afghanistan on Thursday. Many more were also injured in the bombings in a restive southern provincial seat and the capital of Kabul.

Police said a suicide bomber detonated an explosives vest he was wearing in a mosque in the Helmand province capital of Lashkar Gar, killing the province's deputy governor, Pir Mohammad, who was praying at the time.
Because islam has such reverence for mosques. Much like Ramadan.

Five other people were killed and 21 were injured in the strike. The bomber was standing near to the deputy governor when the blast occurred.

Abu Laith al-Libi titzup?
Warm up the fat lady...
She's here, singing the final aria ...
CAIRO, Egypt - An Islamist militant website has announced the death of the Al-Qaida commander in Afghanistan, Abu Laith al-Libi who appeared in several online video messages, according to a U.S. monitoring group.
Additional, fingers crossed:
A leading Al-Qaeda operative in Afghanistan, Abu Laith al-Libi, has been killed, an Islamist website monitored by the US-based service SITE said on Thursday. Al-Ekhlaas, an Al-Qaeda-affiliated forum, announced the death of Libi, it said. "As the banner was posted on Ekhlaas by a webmaster of the forum, it seems as if the announcement of his death has been confirmed to the forum administrators."

#1  While the claim could not be verified independently, the announcement of his death appeared as a banner in a section of the Web site reserved for affiliated militant organizations, according to the Washington-based SITE Institute which monitors such sites.

"As the banner was posted ... by a webmaster of the forum, it seems as if the announcement of his death has been confirmed to the forum administrators," SITE said in an e-mail to news organizations.

#3  The man who some U.S. intelligence circles reportedly call al Qaeda's No. 3 has been killed in Pakistan, government officials confirm.

Pakistan, you say?

"It's significant," a Western intelligence official, who confirmed al Libi is believed to have been killed in this week's attack by an unmanned predator in North Waziristan, tells ABC News. "But it's not bin Laden and Zawahri. They do have an ability to regenerate and replace these guys."

So, you're confirming you believe he got wacked?
Pardon me for not holding my breath.

Libyan Abu Laith al Libi served as an al Qaeda field commander and spokesman. He was considered to be responsible for al Qaeda's military operations in Afghanistan, according to intelligence officials. He was believed to have been behind the suicide bombing that killed 23 people outside the Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan last February when Vice President Dick Cheney was visiting inside.

In a 2006 audio interview al Libi said, "We showed the Muslims in Afghanistan that the mujahedeen in Afghanistan are able to organize a strong, orderly opposition that can stop the enemies in their tracks."

A jihadi Web site today carried a banner congratulating the Muslim worldwide community for the "martyrdom of Sheikh Abu Al-Laith Al-Libi."

Ok, they think he's dancing with his virgins. That sounds better.

News reports say al Libi was in his 40s.

#5  It was not immediately clear if Libi's death was linked to a suspected U.S. missile strike that killed up to 13 foreign militants in Pakistan's North Waziristan region this week. The attack had targeted second or third tier al Qaeda leaders, according to residents in the tribal area.

Tribesmen in the area had said a deputy of Libi, a senior al Qaeda leader, had been staying there and was among the dead, according to an intelligence official.

#14  ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - One of al-Qaida's top figures, Abu Laith al-Libi, has been killed in Pakistan, an Islamist Web site announced Thursday. Pakistani officials and residents said a dozen people, including seven Arabs, died in a missile strike in northwestern Pakistan near the Afghan border.

He was listed among the Americans' 12 most-wanted men with a bounty of $200,000 on his head.

Pakistani intelligence officials and residents said a missile struck a compound late Monday or early Tuesday about 2 1/2 miles from the Pakistani town of Mir Ali in North Waziristan, killing 12 people, including seven Arabs as well as Pakistanis and Central Asians. Residents said they could hear U.S. Predator drones flying in the area shortly before the explosion, which destroyed the compound. The Pakistani newspaper Dawn said the victims were buried in a local cemetery.

One intelligence official in the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, said the bodies of those killed were badly mangled by the force of the explosion and it was difficult to identify them. The official estimated 12 people were killed, including Arabs, Turkomen from Central Asia and local Taliban members.

Afghan Taliban decapitate 4, kill 3 others
Taliban militants on Wednesday beheaded four Afghan roadworkers, abducted a week ago, while a series of rebel bombings in Kandahar killed three civilians, authorities said. The militants who abducted the four men in Nuristan had demanded ransom from their families, the Interior Ministry said in a statement. “After the families refused, they committed such a barbaric act,” it said.

The statement blamed the decapitations on the Taliban, who have previously used this style of murder. In another incident on Wednesday, a suicide car bomb exploded near a NATO convoy in southern Kandahar province but missed the troops, a NATO spokesman and a police chief said.

No soldiers with NATO’s International Security Assistance Force were hurt, a spokesman told AFP. Kandahar police chief Sayed Agha Saqeb said four civilians were hurt. He blamed the attack on Taliban rebels. Also in Kandahar, two civilians were killed and four were hurt when a bomb planted on a road exploded under their vehicle on Tuesday, Saqeb said. “The bomb was planted by Taliban to target security forces but it hit innocent civilians,” he said. Another civilian was killed in a similar explosion in the province on Tuesday, he added.

Al-Qaeda claims responsibility for Algeria suicide attack
Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb claimed responsibility for the suicide attack which targeted a police station in Thenia, eastern Algeria killing three people and wounding many others on Tuesday.

According to a statement on a website routinely used by Al-Qaeda, the suicide bomber is called Hamza Abu Abderrahmane. “On January 29 2008 at 6:30 a.m, he drove a vehicle laden with at least 650 kilograms of explosives,” said the statement. Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (ex-GSPC) was behind pervious suicide attacks in Algeria starting from April 11 when the Government Palace and a police station in Algiers were rocked by two car bombs leaving 33 dead and wounding more than 200.

Canadian authorities remand the Algerian Harkat in custody again
The Canadian authorities have once again arrested the Algerian, Mohammed Harkat, who was released on parole and remanded in custody before appearing in Canadian Supreme Court in a period not exceeding 47 hours.

According to Harkat's lawyers, the Canadian authorities blamed this one for not housing his stepmother permanently, which is one of the conditions set for his liberation. But the man, his lawyers added, has never lived alone since his Canadian wife is sharing the same roof with her husband and was there when Harkat was busted. The Canadian authorities accused Mohammed Harkat of being part of an "Al Qaeda" dormant cell and was arrested in 2002 under a security warrant which allows the detention of foreigners without appearing in court.

Four years after, Mohammed Harkat was released on parole in 2006 under strict conditions including the wearing of bracelet to track him down by security services as well as being under the supervision of his Canadian wife or one of her relatives. The Canadian federal court is set to pronounce on the case of Mohammed Harkat these coming days.

Algeria attack: suicide bomber identified
The suicide bomber who blew himself up at a police station in Thenia (east of Algiers) on Tuesday has been identified as Mustapha Ben Abidi, according to official security sources. The 29-year-old man joined Al-Qaeda in November 2007. Since then, security forces had been searching for him, said the same sources. Mustapha Ben Abidi lives in the town of Zemouri (around 35 km east of Algiers). According to security corroborating sources, the identification of the suicide bomber was confirmed by a DNA test. Three people including two policemen were killed and 44 others were wounded in the attack.

#2  We've been training these Afghans for quite some time (more than the Iraqis) and it's my impression that the Afghans (at least the ones on our side) simply aren't as good as the Iraqis.

Maybe living under Taliban oppression wasn't as awful as living under Saddam or Al Q but in any case, I'm disappointed that we haven't made more progress in training Afghans.

#5  Normally soldiers being prepared for Afghanistan spend 26-28 weeks on the Army’s combat infantry course, which has a reputation for producing some of the best infantry troops in the world.

However, to cope with the manpower shortages the combat infantry course would be cut to 14 weeks – even though senior planning officers involved in the proposal have acknowledged that there would be risks attached.

Out of my league here, but I would imagine PT and basic discipline would be less. However, knowing where they will be deploying would allow skill specific training? Continue training upon arrival? Team of 2 experienced with a green attached for support until they get their legs under them? No training like on the job training-no unlearning?

#6  Maybe living under Taliban oppression wasn't as awful as living under Saddam or Al Q but in any case, I'm disappointed that we haven't made more progress in training Afghans.

Two issues:

1. Cultural. Due to long-standing cultural practices (we're talking centuries) Afghanis tend to make good warriors, but warriors aren't necessarily good soldiers. Leadership, "code of conduct", strategy, etc. aren't of the Western variety.

2. Most foreign-led training has been short-term and didn't affect the fighting-population as a whole. Iraqis had British, and later Soviet, training.

There's no quick fix, add-water-and-stir way to instill training and a Western military ethos.
It will take time and patience.

#7  Well, it has been 20 years since I was an Infantry OSUT training company commander at Ft. Benning, but in those days, Infantry One Station Unit Training in the US Army was 13 weeks.

More initial entry training time is better - but 14 weeks isn't too shabby. Once you get to a line unit, almost all non-fighting time is used for more training. I'm sure that the military is still full of "hurry up and wait." Any time you end up waiting, good NCO's can turn waiting time into individual training time.

Former Iraqi intelligence officer testifies against LA man
A former Iraqi intelligence officer testified Wednesday that he recognized Iraqi documents bearing the name of a US man accused of working as an informant for Saddam Hussein.

The witness, who was referred to only as "Mr. Sargon" to protect his identity, said he recognized documents belonging to the Iraqi Intelligence Service that were signed by defendant William Shaoul Benjamin. Benjamin, 67, an Iraqi-born US citizen who lives in Los Angeles, is charged with conspiracy, failing to register as an agent of a foreign government and making false statements. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison. Prosecutors say he was a paid informant for the Iraqi Intelligence Service before coming to the United States in 1992, and later collected intelligence on Assyrian Christians in the US without telling the American government.

Nepal election rally bombed, 45 hurt: police
KATHMANDU - At least 45 people were wounded in ethnically-tense southern Nepal Wednesday in a bomb attack against a political rally aimed at promoting the country’s peace process, police said. The country’s mainstream political parties and former Maoist rebels had organised the rally as part of a joint campaign to prepare for landmark elections planned for April 10.

‘The toll has risen to 45 injured. Two critically injured people have been taken by helicopter to Kathmandu for treatment,’ Yogeshwor Rom Khami, superintendent of police in Birgunj, 80 kilometres (50 miles) south of Kathmandu, told AFP by telephone. ‘This might have been done by an armed and radical Mahadhesi group but we have not yet received any claims of responsibility,’ he said.

The town had been hit by several blasts ahead of the rally, with officials blaming ethnic Mahadhesi extremists who have vowed to derail the April polls unless the government agrees to grant the fertile plains region greater autonomy.

Police say 4 rebels killed in gunbattle in Indian Kashmir
Government forces killed four suspected Islamic militants from the region's largest rebel group, including a top commander, in a gunbattle in the Indian-controlled portion of Kashmir on Wednesday, police said.

The militant group Hezb-ul-Mujahedeen has been linked to scores of bombings and attacks in the restive Himalayan region. Sajad Ahmed Bhat, the leader who was killed, was allegedly involved in the killing of eight Nepali laborers in 2006 in the region, said Kashmir Police Chief SM Sahai. Police offered no evidence linking Bhat to the killings. Indian officials routinely blame major attacks on militants whom they have captured or killed.

Top terrorist captured after shootout in Karachi
A top Pakistani terrorist, who has links with al-Qaeda, was injured and captured in a gun battle with security forces in this port city, a police official said on Wednesday. Qasim Toori, a key member of the outlawed Jundullah terror group who carried a reward of Rs five lakh on his head, was initially believed to have been killed in a fierce shootout with security forces that raided a militant hideout on Tuesday.
Qasim's a pretty tough boy. Yesterday he was dead in the same shootout.
Karachi's police chief Niaz Ahmed Siddiqi told a news conference that Toori and his accomplice Abid Ali were arrested from a building in the Shah Latif area where a group of militants had been holed up.

Siddiqi said three terrorists and two policemen were killed in on Tuesday's shootout. The terrorists were planning to carry out a "major action" in Karachi, he said.

There had been confusion over the casualties in on Tuesday's operation as security forces had fought two gun battles with the militants at two separate locations.
Ahah. That explains it. He was prob'ly killed in the other shootout.
Officials had said late last night that five militants were killed. The interior ministry had also announced that Toori was among the terrorists who were gunned down. Officials on Wednesday said police had mistaken one of the dead militants for Toori, who was actually injured.

Jundullah has been blamed for several attacks on security personnel, and Toori is believed to be the mastermind behind a 2004 attack on Gen Ahsan Saleem Hayat, then the army's corps commander for Karachi.

Bodies of 13 missing troops found in Darra
The bodies of 13 soldiers killed by militants during the military’s ongoing operation in Darra Adam Khel have been found, the army said on Wednesday. An Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement said the bodies had been shifted to their respective areas for burial. “They embraced shahadat during recent operations,” it said.

Sources told Daily Times that three of the dead were army personnel that the militants had captured, along with ammunition and food trucks, near the Kohat Tunnel on January 24. They said militants had kidnapped the remaining 10 personnel. Three bodies could not be recognised, they added. “They [soldiers] were apparently killed last week but their bodies were found today,” a police official told Reuters.

Conflicting reports: There were conflicting reports about how the bodies were discovered, with the military denying claims by local police that the men were kidnapped and then dumped in a vehicle, AFP reported. Police officials said on condition of anonymity that authorities discovered the bodies of the 13 soldiers dumped in a vehicle in Darra Adam Khel on Wednesday after they were abducted last week. But a senior army official said the account was “rubbish” and that the men were killed in military operations.

Military officials were not available to confirm if those killed belonged to the army or the Frontier Corps. However, a source said all the bodies belonged to army personnel.

Separately, the ISPR said security forces were in full control of the region and efforts were underway to open the tunnel for public use. Calm returned to Darra Adam Khel after five days of fighting. No incidents of artillery, shelling or small arms fire were reported from the region on Tuesday night or Wednesday. However, military helicopters were seen over the hilltops manned by security personnel, residents told Daily Times.

A convoy of more than 50 vehicles, the first after almost six days, had civilians returning to their homes under tight security by FC personnel. A similar convoy arrived in Darra town from areas adjacent to Kohat district. However, the vehicles came through the Kotal Road, not the Kohat Tunnel. The ISPR said a total of 150 vehicles passed through Darra Adam Khel on Wednesday, but did not specify if the convoy was of civilians or security personnel.

Around 80 percent of the population had evacuated the area and taken refuge in areas adjacent to Peshawar or Kohat, following the start of the military operation on January 25. An elder, who did not want to be named for fear of reprisal from militants, said many displaced people were reluctant to return to Darra, as they feared the Taliban would return. Local journalist Nisar Afridi said locals were hesitant because of the continuous curfew-like situation in the area, as well as the suspension of electricity and scarcity of food items, drinking water and medicines.

Two soldiers killed: Also on Wednesday, local Taliban attacked a military base in North Waziristan, killing two soldiers. According to official sources, the rocket attack targeted Razmak army camp, 75 kilometres south of Miranshah. “We lost two soldiers in the attack and security forces retaliated,” the sources said. Another soldier was injured, AFP reported. It was not clear which group had attacked the base or whether any militants were killed in the retaliatory fire. Two suicide bombers were also captured in Dera Ismail Khan, Reuters reported.

Blast kills three 'suicide bombers' in Peshawar
An explosion in a house in the outskirts of Peshawar killed three men who police said were making bombs when the explosives detonated prematurely.

The blast occurred at about 5am on Wednesday, in the guestroom of a house located in the Badshah Dak area of Tauheed Colony in Phandu police precincts. Gulbahar Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ijaz Khan told Daily Times the blast was apparently caused by dynamite. “Initial evidence suggests that they were suicide attackers,” police officer Farid Shah told AP. “They were preparing for an attack but the explosion occurred.” DSP Ijaz Khan said the men were likely involved in an earlier attack on music shops in the Afridiabad area.

He said police had detained one Ismail, originally from Lakary of Mohmand Agency, who had rented the house. The dead men included Ismail’s brother-in-law Saadullah and cousin Ali Rehman. The third body could not be identified. AFP said the men were 20 to 30 years old. Police seized a hand grenade, 10 kilogrammes of explosives, a pistol, three mobile phones, a dairy and religious literature from the house.

Awas Gul, a neighbour, told Daily Times that Ismail had been living in the house for a year and his cousin Ali Rehman, who died in the explosion, visited him often. Ismail was a regular visitor to the locality’s mosque, he said, and nobody suspected him of being a terrorist.

Earlier, two music shops were damaged in a bomb explosion at around 3am in the Afridiabad. No casualties were reported. Police officials said that the shops were no longer selling music CDs. They said the owner of one of the shops had begun selling kebabs in his shop following violence against video and music stores.

Wazir tribesmen wary of Uzbek militants' return to South Waziristan
Ahmedzai Wazir tribesmen were opposing a possible return of Uzbek militants to their former strongholds around Wana town in South Waziristan as Afghan Taliban leaders negotiated a truce between militia commander Maulvi Nazir and his pro-Uzbek foes, sources told Daily Times on Wednesday.

Maulvi Nazir took full control of Wana after he drove out foreign militants and their local supporters in a battle in March last year. “We have told Maulvi Nazir that even if he allows pro-Uzbek commanders back, Uzbek militants will not be welcomed because they were involved in murders of tribal elders,” said an elder who attended a meeting between Maulvi Nazir and Ahmedzai Wazir elders. The elder, who did not want to be identified, was talking to Daily Times by telephone from Wana.

Truce: He said the “Islamic Emirate” (Taliban) delegation’s meeting with Maulvi Nazir followed a visit by Wazir elders to Bakakhel (near Bannu) to talk to pro-Uzbek Wazir commanders. Haji Javed, Maulvi Abbas, Haji Umar, Ghulam Jan and Nek Muhammad left Wazir areas after Uzbek militants were expelled from Wana and surrounding areas. The commanders backed the Uzbeks but could not withstand the Ahmedzai Wazir tribes’ military-backed onslaught. “Maulvi Nazir believes the commanders will have to swear allegiance to him if they want to return to native land,” a source said.

“We spent three days in Bakakhel to convince Abbas and Javed,” said the Wazir elder. “They said they will follow the Islamic Emirate’s decision, and the Emirate ultimately involved itself to bring these people back together.”

A source close to Maulvi Nazir told Daily Times that a three-member delegation of “the Islamic Emirate” was talking to Maulvi Nazir in Wana to broker a deal between him and pro-Uzbek commanders. He said the delegation members were “not known faces” and one of them was “speaking Pushto in Kandahari accent” suggesting he was from Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, the birthplace of Taliban. Nazir was continuously updating Ahmedzai Wazir elders on the talks, the sources said. Taliban called Afghanistan the “Islamic Emirate” when they ruled the country. The name also began to refer to Waziristan when pro-Taliban tribal militants took almost full control of the area.

Tribal elder found dead in Mohmand Agency
GHALANAI: The body of a tribal elder was found in the Kong area of Khuzai tehsil in Mohmand Agency late on Tuesday, sources told Daily Times. Tribal elder Muhammad Afzal, his son Syed Asghar and Malik Mir Alam were kidnapped from Yakaghund by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday, the sources said, adding that Alam and Asghar were still missing.

Kidnappings: Separately, unidentified people kidnapped Agency Population and Family Planning Officer Abdul Aziz, his driver Aftab and impounded their vehicle. Another tribal elder, Malik Nisar, was also kidnapped from the area.

Also, security forces arrested a suspected militant in Drushkhela, while police raided a godown and recovered arms and ammunition from the Guli Bagh area of Swat on Wednesday, a Media Information Centre (MIC) statement and police officials said. The godown was owned by an alleged militant commander, Qari Mushtaq, the police officials said, adding that the weapons recovered included three AK-47s and over 200 rounds. The arms were handed over to the military authorities, the officials said. Curfew was relaxed in Swat from 6am to 7pm on Wednesday, the MIC statement said. It said that militants tried to set ablaze an abandoned police post in Kalakot near the Sakhra area on Wednesday, but residents of the area foiled the attempt.

Southeast Asia
Bali bombers file second death row appeal
Three Muslim militants on death row for their roles in the 2002 Bali bombings filed a second appeal Wednesday with the Indonesian Supreme Court, seen by many as a move to delay their execution. The three militants - Imam Samudra, Mukhlas, alias Ali Ghufron, and Amrozi - face a firing squad for their roles in the 2002 bombings of two nightspots on the Indonesian tourist resort of Bali that killed 202 people, mostly foreign tourists. The country's Supreme Court rejected their last appeal in September.

Representing the three, lawyer Fachmi Bachmid submitted documents Wednesday to the Bali's Denpasar District Court, where the three were originally tried and convicted, requesting another judicial review of their case by the Supreme Court. In addition, the lawyer also demanded the hearing be moved to Cilacap district, close to the Nusakambangan prison island, where the three were being jailed while awaiting execution.

BD Nainggolan, spokesman of the Indonesian attorney general, had said that another judicial review request would slow execution proceedings unless it was rejected straight away.

Indonesian law makes no provision for a second judicial review for such cases. Bachmid argued that the lawsuit challenges retroactive laws under which the men were convicted, and will argue that their first judicial review was flawed. "This is serious because we consider that there's been a violation to the constitution, legal procedure and to human rights," Bachmid told reporters. "So, what we're trying to do is to straighten up the law."

Last week, lawyer Achmad Michdan also sought to challenge the retroactive laws used to convict the men and the distribution of documents, along with the 30-day deadline set for the trio to seek clemency. On January 2, prosecutors visited the prison to hand the death row inmates copies of the Supreme Court decision rejecting their demand for a case review, marking the start of the 30-day time limit to seek clemency. The deadline is due to run out within days and the three have repeatedly told media they would not be seeking a pardon.

Sri Lanka
Tigers protest to UN over bombing
Sri Lankan air force fighter jets pounded northern rebel positions on Wednesday as ground troops attacked 35 rebel bunkers, killing at least 10 Tamil Tigers, the military said.

The clashes in the Jaffna peninsula came as the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) blamed the army for a roadside bomb that killed 17 people, most of them children, on a school bus on Tuesday. The army denied the report. Sea, land and air battles between government soldiers and the rebels have escalated since a six-year truce was scrapped on Jan 16. “The troops attacked about 35 of the LTTE terrorist bunkers in Killali and Nagerkovil in Jaffna today in the early hours, destroying about 20,” said military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara.

10 rebels killed: “Monitoring confirmed 10 terrorists were killed,” he said, adding seven soldiers were wounded. The Tigers said they beat back a military attempt to attack their forward defence line in Jaffna. “Fighting units of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces (SLAF) backed by heavy artillery and mortar fire advanced towards LTTE position,” said Tamil Tiger spokesman Rasiah Ilanthiraiyan in an e-mailed statement. “In the end of the clashes that lasted about an hour, the SLAF fighting units that participated in the attempt fell back to their own fortified localities with casualties.”

The fighting came a day after the Tigers blamed the military for a blast in the northwestern district of Mannar that killed 17 people, including 11 children and two teachers. In a statement on their official website, the rebels said 17 others were wounded in the blast. Military spokesman Nanayakkara denied the allegations, saying they were “fabricated stories”. There were no independent accounts of the clashes.

UN protest: The Tigers also lodged a formal protest with the United Nations against the alleged bombing of the school bus by Sri Lankan security forces. Among those dead on the bus were 11 children between the ages of eight and 16, the head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) political wing, B Nadesan said in a letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. The Tigers also accused the Sri Lankan air force of dropping bombs on villages in the rebel-held areas in the north, killing and wounding scores of civilians.

“Since the present president of Sri Lanka took office in November 2005, 2,056 Tamil civilians, including 132 Tamil children, have been massacred by Sri Lankan state forces,” Nadesan said. “The deliberate targeting of Tamil civilians by the Sri Lankan state has continued even through the nearly six-year period of the ceasefire agreement signed in February 2002,” he said. “We urge you to consider recognising Tamil sovereignty as a constructive approach to end the unending decades-long, large-scale, and serious rights violations against the Tamil people,” Nadesan said.

Anyway, what mechanism allows a terrorist entity to squat on Sri Lankan soil and lodge protests with the UN against the rightful government? Do I have my facts wrong?
