Sheikh detained in al-Ihsaa over provoking sectarianism
Saudi Arabia's ministry of the interior announce yesterday it detained a Sunni clergy under the charge of provoking "sectarianism" in al-Ihsaa area to the east of the Kingdom, inhabited by a huge number of Shiite minority in the country. A spokesman for the ministry said that Muhanna Bin Abdul Aziz al-Hubeil who alleged he is a reformer, was detained over violating the rules and provoking sectarianism when he had made of himself a secretary general for a suspected gathering aimed at causing divisions and provoking seditions.
Stirring up trouble, was he? Since when has this been against the law in the Magic Kingdom?
Thereby he contradicts what he vowed to -- before specialized sides in earlier violations.
So this ain't his first offence.
Legal measures will be applicable on Al-Hubeil, on which Islamic sources said he was detained in al-Hafhouf city on Wednesday as the chairman of the Islamic national forum. It is an unlicensed Sunni group composed of five members and says it seems to support the rights of citizens in this area.
Five Sunnis in a Shiite area, most likely seething against their neighbors.
A Shiite citizen from the people of the area said that al-Hubeil is persistent that his organization welcomes the Shiite.
"Some of my best friends are Shiite......."
But he added that the majority of the Shiite consider that the group has a "sectarian inclination."
"...but they better keep their dirty hands off our women!"
On the other hand, a security source in Riyadh said yesterday that the authorities detained two Saudis following a clash near an inspection point in Riyadh. The source said that the detention operation was made after the two men refused to stop at an inspection point in al-Areija suburb to the south of Riyadh and opened fire at police members. But it did not remark if the two detainees are involved in criminal or terrorist acts.
Interesting, but has nothing to do with the previous story.

Canadian among dead Chechen thugs
Russia's Defence Ministry said Friday that its forces had destroyed four militants in Chechnya including a Canadian resident. Col. Vyacheslav Sedov, spokesman for the ministry, identified the dead Canadian resident as Khalil Rudvan of Vancouver. Mr. Rudvan was killed with three other alleged fighters in a clash with special forces outside the village of Niki-Khita in the mountainous Kurchaloi region of Chechnya, he said. The Interfax news agency quoted Maj.-Gen. Ilya Shabalkin, the Federal Security Service spokesman in Chechnya, as saying that Rudvan had been an explosives expert who entered Russia in September on a tourist visa. He said Rudvan had entered Chechnya from the neighbouring Russian region of Dagestan, accompanied by three gunmen from a militant group headed by Akhmed Avdorkhanov.

#6  The mosque right off 99 south of Vancouver gives me pause whenever I drive by it. (Biggest mosque in BC!) I think of it as Alan's armory in Richmond. Will there be a "work accident" there someday? If a JDAM happened to fall on it, how long would the secondary explosions last? Those are some of the questions that come to mind.

#7  CL. Well the work explosion or JDAM most likely won't happen but fantasies can be fun. The mosques have been a source of venom against us for a long time. Mid-Eastern money has a way of finding its way into many of these mosques.

Al-Qaeda's role in Chechnya
The Al-Qa'idah representatives in Chechnya are fairly high-level functionaries, the deputy head of the Russian Federal Security Department for the Chechen Republic, Aleksandr Potapov, has said. "Operational information attests that they are middle-ranking members of Al-Qa'idah. More than 10 of the total number of mercenaries belong directly to the network of the Al-Qa'idah international terrorist organization," Potapov told Interfax by phone. "Usamah Bin-Ladin never draws in people in whom he does not have complete trust. Otherwise, his own people would have long since handed him over for the 25m dollars offered by the USA," Potapov said.

At present Al-Qa'idah's main protege in Chechnya is the Arab mercenary Abu Khavs, who took over from Abu al-Walid when the latter was iced nailed forcibly departed from this mortal coil eliminated by federal forces in April 2004. Another Arab mercenary, Abu Zeyt, is responsible for coordinating acts of sabotage in Ingushetia and the adjacent Urus-Martanovskiy and Achkhoy-Martanovskiy districts in Chechnya. "Overall, analysis of operational information attests that there could be more than 150 mercenaries in Chechnya who are citizens of some 40 countries and most of whom are Arabs, Turks, citizens of Western countries or the CIS states," Potapov said. He said that in most cases Al-Qa'idah representatives plan and carry out terrorist activities independently and do not coordinate their actions with Aslan Maskhadov or Shamil Basayev. "There is no information that gives grounds to conclude that Basayev and Maskhadov are completely subordinate to members of Al-Qa'idah or, on the contrary, that members of Al-Qa'idah are accountable to them. Basayev and Maskhadov are certainly not able to dictate terms, since the money comes through Al-Qa'idah and its representatives decide who should receive how much. Nor is there 100-per-cent proven information that the mercenaries are in complete control of the situation," Potapov said. At the same time, evidence given by militants who have been arrested has shown that individual acts of terrorism are jointly planned at sittings of what is called the Shura," he said.

The FSB representative stressed that special working groups have been set up to gather operational data on Basayev and Maskhadov and it has been made the personal responsibility of specific individuals. "There has always been a search for these leaders but this work has now been made more specific and more targeted. Police officers, members of the Chechen president's security service and operatives from a variety of security and law-enforcement structures play a permanent part in the operation," Potapov said.

Russian federal troops have eliminated four bandits in Chechnya's Kurchaloi region. According to preliminary data, one of the four men was a foreign mercenary, an Afro-American. According to a source in the regional headquarters of the counter-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus, work is in progress on the dead man's documents, including a passport and a driver's license.

Europe
Irish arms smugglers sold ETA missiles seized in raids
EFL
Irish arms smugglers, possibly linked to the IRA, sold the Basque terrorist group ETA at least two surface-to-air missiles which were discovered in arms caches in the French countryside, it was reported Wednesday. The two Russian-made missiles, still in their cardboard boxes and with instructions attached, were discovered in ETA arsenals in two south-western French villages, Spain's interior ministry confirmed. The missiles were reported to be lightweight, shoulder-launched Sam-7s with Strela launchers, though there was no official confirmation. The missiles were sold to ETA from Ireland about four years ago, the Spanish daily La Vanguardia newspaper said, quoting anonymous anti-terrorist sources in the Basque region.

A letter in English explaining how to use the heat-seeking missiles, which are designed for attacking low-flying aircraft, was reportedly found in a raid on an ETA safe-house three years ago. Some of Spain's major airports, especially those in the Basque country, put into place special protective measures to avoid ground-to-air attacks after security services became convinced ETA had missiles in its arsenal, according to reports. The IRA is known to have bought Sam-7s from Libya in the 1980s and is believed to have still had several of them at the start of the arms decommissioning process. British security forces began monitoring a suspected three-way link between the IRA, ETA, and the Colombian guerrillas Farc in 2000.

Denmark investigating possible al-Qaeda cell
Denmark's intelligence service is investigating a possible Al-Qaeda cell in the country after receiving information from Lebanon, Danish public television reported Thursday. Lebanon passed along the information and a request to investigate several people after uncovering last month a cell that was allegedly plotting to bomb the Italian embassy, a foreign ministry official said. The suspected leader of the Lebanese cell, Ismail Mohammed al-Khatib, told Lebanese interrogators he worked closely with Al-Qaeda cells in Denmark, Germany and Italy before dying in custody, a Danish interior ministry official told the television station. A spokesman for the Danish intelligence service PET confirmed an investigation was under way, with no arrests having been made. Lebanese authorities have arrested 10 people including al-Khatib and are searching for another 20 believed link to the group with alleged links to Al-Qaeda.

Nine hurt in Indon embassy blast
AN explosion has been reported at the Indonesian embassy in Paris with up to nine people injured. French officials said the explosion was deliberate.
"Legume! Round up the usual suspects!"
Europe-1 radio quoted firefighters as saying the explosion took place on the embassy's ground floor and that nine people were injured, five of them from the embassy. Police set up barriers to block access to the area, which was lined with fire trucks and police cars.Several people were seen being accompanied by rescue workers from the area where the explosion occurred. The embassy is located in the exclusive 16th district of Paris. Interior Minister Dominique de Villepin was expected at the scene shortly wearing men's clothing. Windows were blown out in the immediate area, and rescue workers warned nearby residents to stay indoors, according to the radio report.

#7  Are we witnessing terror attack previews for Islam's month of Ramadan, which begins next week, on a Friday evening, October 15th, 2004 and continues until November 12th, 2004? I would say, yes unfortunately!

It's very interesting Election Day November 2nd falls into this period of traditional inter-Islamic (Sunni-Shi'ite) blood letting since both branched consider the other infidels over the issue Ali. Read below for an eye opening overview of the in-depth historical acts of one sect attempting to exterminate the other, and these people are supposed to be all Muslims!

"At the age of ten, Ali Ibn Abi Talib was the second person to belief in the teachings of Mohammed, after Khadija. A close associate and advisor of Mohammed all his life, Ali was renowned as a pious man, an honest judge, a warrior, and a leader. Shortly after the hijra (the Moslem exodus to Medina), he married Mohammed's daughter Fatima, thus making him Mohammed's son-in-law as well as his cousin. After Mohammed's death, Ali became the focus of the first major split among Moslems. On the one hand, he became the Fourth Rightly Guided Caliph in 656, for which Sunni Moslems still revere him. On the other hand, Ali thought that the caliphate should have gone to him because he was Mohammed's closest male relative. Those who agreed with him became known as the Shia (i.e., the "party"). After his {{{{murder}}}} in 660, his followers split from the other Moslems and became known in English as the Shi'ites. Shiite belief elevates Ali to the position of a "Friend of Allah"--next to Mohammed--and the center of the differences between the Shi'ites and the Sunnis. In Shi'ite belief, Ali is the first Imam." --------->(my thoughts) and Khomeini was next last Imam according to those Iranians fanatics which cheered when the Shah was overthrown, replaced by a brutal, menacing looking figure, the Muslim madman, Ayatollah Khomeini, the grand sicko that called US the 'Great Satan'. Radical Iranian Shi'ites bought this spoon feed baloney about Khomeini being the final Iman, hook, line and Muslim sinker!

What's next? They believe 'The Expected One' or 'The Mahdi' ...will come very soon, but there is a monkey wrench in the works, we are it, the 'filthy unrepentant infidels' you know the billions of normal people in the world which refuse to 'submit' (to) Islam. Enter the global terrorist solution to , in their sick eyes they will force the issue upon us, one way or the other, i.e. the global war radical Islamists have already declared and are in the process of executing as this is typed! The total cleansing of ALL INFIDELS and then, and ONLY then, this Mr. Mahdi character is then able, and returns to earth in Islamic glory, meaning we are dead as doornails in their view...bla, bla & more Ali ba bla .

A horror movie script ...we wish! Solution...picture this way, It's December 6th, 1941, you the commander of Pacific Fleet just received word the Jap naval code was broken and you instruct all available U.S. bomber and fighter aircraft to meet the enemy BEFORE he can attack Pearl Harbour! That wishful thinking scenario in today's unstable world as far as the immediate threat is the Islamic 'republic' of the Shi'ite Muslim death wishers, Iran, the new nuclear Iran. Across the Persian Gulf from Iran is world's most massive oil field, the Gahwar, in north-eastern Saudi Arabia. If Iran is not total altered from the top down and soon, that oil lifeline for major economic portions of the world will become the mullahs chosen target to nuke, and will result in the worst financial panic since October..wow the same month, of 1929!

JI-trained bomber arrested in Mindanao
A Muslim militant believed to have been trained by the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) and suspected of being involved in deadly bombings in the southern Philippines has been arrested in Manila, police said Thursday. The suspect, who is aged in his early 30s and identified only as Mentang, was captured by intelligence agents in Paco district on Wednesday in possession of an unlicenced handgun. Officials said initial investigations revealed he may be a member of the separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) which has been negotiating peace with Manila. "Apparently, he is a member of the breakaway faction of the MILF and he claimed to have been trained by JI elements in central Mindanao," a police intelligence official said. "He has revealed their group's plan to conduct bombing operations in the southern Philippines," the official said without elaborating. Mentang is suspected of being involved in the bombings of an airport and a wharf in the southern city of Davao last year which killed 38 people and left more than 100 dead.

Iran claims 2,000-mile range on missile (This is not kosher)
Iran has reported a breakthrough in its intermediate-range missile program.
Radical Islamic Iran with nuclear IRBM's is like telling 5 year old children to play with matches in a room full of gasoline.
For the first time, Iran has claimed a capability to develop and produce a missile with a range of 2,000 kilometers. The breakthrough was said to have been part of the enhanced Shihab-3 program, also known as the Shihab-4. "Now we have the power to launch a missile with a range of 2,000 kilometers," former President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, a leading aide to Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei, said.
ahhh just ducky!!"
And experts know that once a country has made such a step, all further steps are accessible." Israeli and U.S. officials said the reference was to Iran's program to develop a series of multi-stage, intermediate- and long-range missiles. The officials said Iran was planning to assemble the Shihab-5 missile, with a range of 5,500 kilometers and the intercontinental Shihab-6, with a range of up to 10,000 kilometers.
Mullahs in the Major League of ICBM's just want everyone needs
In an address to a space and security conference in Teheran, Rafsanjani said the success in extending the range of Iranian missiles marked a watershed in the nation's strategic programs. He said the breakthrough would allow Iran to launch satellites into space. "We have today the ballistic technology and if we had not limited our progress, we would have been even more advanced," Rafsanjani was quoted by the official Iranian news agency, Irna, as saying on Tuesday. "With this ballistic power, we can today speak of an independent satellite launch and we should seek the technology to make our own satellites."

Angry Pakistani Sunnis defy ban
Angry Sunni Muslims have protested in the Pakistani city of Multan in defiance of a ban on public meetings imposed after a deadly car bombing. About 40 people died when a militant Sunni meeting was attacked on Thursday. Hundreds of protesters in Multan burned tyres, blocked roads and shouted slogans against Shia Muslims. The chief minister of Punjab province has offered a 10m rupee ($175,000) reward for information leading to the capture of the attackers. Pakistani police said they had arrested about a dozen Shia activists in Multan and Faisalabad and units were conducting further raids. Pakistan has a long history of sectarian violence, particularly between majority Sunni and minority Shia Muslims. Thursday's bombing came after a number of deadly attacks on Shias over the past few months.

Iraq-Jordan
Brother Confirms Bigley Murdered
We can confirm that the family has now received absolute proof that Ken Bigley was executed by his captors," Phil Bigley said in a statement he read on national television in Britain. "The family here in Liverpool believe that our government did everything it possibly could to secure the release of Ken in this impossible situation." A witness who saw a videotape sent to Abu Dhabi TV said it showed six hooded, armed men standing behind the kneeling Bigley, whom the witness recognized from two previous tapes released by the kidnappers in which he pleaded for his life.
so..it was the same kidnappers. Report that he was being held by Baathists must have been false
One of the six then spoke in Arabic for about a minute, saying they planned to carry out "the sentence of execution against this hostage" because the British government "did not meet our demand" to release Iraqi women detained by the U.S.-led command in Iraq. The U.S. military in Iraq said it had not found Bigley's body. "We're aware of the reports but can give no further information," a spokesman for Blair's office said. Abu Dhabi TV said it had the video showing Bigley's beheading but decided not to air it. Bigley, 62, was abducted Sept. 16 along with two Americans from their home in the upscale Mansour neighborhood by members of Tawhid and Jihad, Iraq's most feared terrorist group led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. The two Americans — Eugene Armstrong, 52, and Jack Hensley, 48 — were beheaded a few days later. "It could be that the fate of Ken, Eugene and Jack was sealed from day one. We will never know," Phil Bigley said.
I wonder when he was killed.
Two videos surfaced last month showing Bigley begging Blair to save his life by meeting his captors' demands. Early Friday, American warplanes struck a building in rebel-held Fallujah where the U.S. command said leaders of al-Zarqawi's network were meeting. A doctor said the attack killed 13 people, including a groom on his wedding night, and wounded 17 others. The U.S. command said "credible intelligence sources" reported terrorist leaders were meeting at the targeted house in Fallujah, 40 miles west of Baghdad. The report of Bigley's death came a day after Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi hinted there might be progress in efforts to secure his release.
released the video to embarrass and prove him wrong?
Kidnappers have abducted more than 150 people in Iraq this year. Most hostages have been freed, but at least 27 have been killed. Some kidnapping groups seek political objectives such as the withdrawal of foreign forces or companies from Iraq in a bid to undermine the U.S.-backed interim government, while others demand ransom money. The attack in Fallujah was among a dozen "precision strikes" launched since last month against al-Zarqawi's network. Besides claiming to have kidnapped and beheaded foreign hostages, the group is also believed to be behind mortar attacks, suicide bombings and shooting sprees that have killed scores in recent months. The U.S. military said those strikes dealt a "significant blow" to al-Zarqawi's movement, killing several key figures, including chief lieutenant Mohammed al-Lubnani and spiritual adviser Abu Anas al-Shami.
very sad indeed.

Three Tadr Tot's Mashed
A U.S. warplane struck three suspected insurgents as they planted an artillery shell on a street in Baghdad's northeastern Shiite district of Sadr City on Friday, a military spokesman said. "One guy was digging a hole and the other two were putting a 155 mm artillery shell into the hole," said Capt. Brian O'Malley, a spokesman for the 1st Cavalry Division. All three were killed, he said. Blood stained the street where a funeral procession was held Friday for two of those killed.

Improvised bombs planted on the roads used by U.S. patrols are among the biggest killers of American forces in Iraq. Sadr City, a teeming slum that is home to more than 2 million people, has seen weeks of clashes between U.S. and Iraqi forces and armed followers of radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr. In an effort to restore order, the interim government of Prime Minister Ayad Allawi has been holding talks with tribal leaders and members of al-Sadr's movement. Late Thursday, a spokesman for al-Sadr offered to hand over medium and heavy weapons and cooperate with Iraqi security forces if the government will stop pursuing militia members and release the cleric's detained followers.
Ummm, no.
The offer by Ali Smeisem on Al-Arabiya television contained no explicit promise to disband the militia, as demanded by U.S. and Iraqi authorities. However, a senior security official, Qassim Dawoud, cautiously welcomed the proposal and urged other armed groups to lay down their arms.

Reconnaissance Plane, Choppers Down In Iraq As US Airpower Shows Vulnerability
Jihad Unspun so you just know it's true.
The superiority of America's airpower that has been its edge in its invasions of both Afghanistan and Iraq and in exercising its control of the world it isn't looking quite so slick after a spate of Iraqi resistance strikes have downed several helicopters and a reconnaissance planes recently.Islam memo's correspondent reported Wednesday that resistance fighters brought down a reconnaissance plane that was flying over Haifa Street in Baghdad. More than 24 hours later, the American army finally admitted receiving the last communication from the plane around noon on Wednesday and the fate of the aircraft is unknown. Islam memo correspondent also reported that American troops cordon the area and started a frantic search for the aircraft.
I think this is the model airplane they supposedly took down yesterday.
US Cobra Aircraft Downed Near Samarra
Resistance fighters deployed a C5K rocket to bring down a US Cobra at 7:15 am Wednesday near Samarra. In the meantime, resistance fighters fired more than 45 rockets at the American occupiers surrounding Samarra city, dispelling the myth that the resistance in Samarra has been quelled after a US bombing raid.
Guess we'll have to bomb some more.
Two Black Hawks Destroyed Inside Ba'aqubah Airport
Two Karad rockets landed inside Ba'aqubah airport causing the destruction of two Black Hawks. Heavy fighting was reported in the Basra area lasting for 90 minutes. 3 Americans and 11 Iraqi national guards were killed and one Bradley armored vehicle was destroyed. Three resistance fighters were martyred and their blue Caprice classic vehicle was destroyed.
Oh, no! Not the blue Caprice Classic!
25 Paratroopers Killed In Al-Yousifiah
American forces attempted to land paratroopers at the rear of resistance fighter's line in Al-Yousifiah but the paratroopers were ambushed by a resistance fighters unit. Islam memo is reporting that most of the paratroopers unit was neutralized.
Did they airdrop some Abrahams tanks and CIA operatives in with them?

More Iraq Attacks, More Casualties Reported; Fallujah Still Under Seige
Must be tough to stroke it with one hand and type with the other over at Jihad Unspun...
Resistance fighter's attacks continued to target American occupiers and their Iraqi collaborators all over Iraq Wednesday night and throughout Thursday. Here are some of the battles that took place in brief:
Dozens Of Iraqi National Guards Killed In Al-Latifiah, Anah
A resistance fighter driving an explosives filled Opel vehicle stormed the Iraqi National Guard Center near "Al-Museeb" area, south of Al-Latifiah, at the same time the guards are coming out of their center to be dispatched to their duty locations. Seventeen Iraqi national guards were killed. Meanwhile, an attack took place Wednesday at noon time, against an Iraqi National Guard center there which also houses Americans, in the city of Aanah, in western Iraq. At least 25 Iraqi national guards and 10 Americans were killed according to reports from Islam memo. Thirty nine others were reported wounded.
Heavy Fighting In Al-Qaim, Sadr City
An American armored vehicle struck a road side bomb in Al-Qaim, near the Syrian boarders. The vehicle was completely destroyed and an American officer perished inside of it. Shortly after the attack, the commander in that area, a higher ranking American officer, arrived on the scene accompanied by 5 armored vehicles and four jeeps. As the officer's convoy was driving by, a tractor trailer detonated on the side of the road. Two armored vehicles and one jeep were destroyed and there was no movement from troops inside following the incident, prompting the conclusion that they had been killed in the attack. Meanwhile, Jaysh Al-Mahdi attacked two American personnel carriers in Sadr City at about 5 PM, Baghdad time Wednesday. The group is reporting that eight American soldiers were killed and four others were wounded in their attack.
More Fighting In Tal-Afar And Mosul
Fighting erupted between resistance fighters and American occupiers on the road linking Tal-Afar and Mosul cities. Fighting started at 5:30 and lasted until 7:30 Thursday morning. Three armored vehicles were destroyed and all eleven on board killed according to Islam Memo. Fighting erupted again at about 1 PM when a car bomb exploded as an American column was passing by. Two armored vehicles were destroyed and an unknown number of US soldiers were killed in that attack. An American convoy consisting of two black armored Ford vehicles, the vehicle model believed to be used by CIA operatives, and four jeeps came under road side bomb attacks around 7:25 PM, Wednesday, near Hammam neighborhood in the city of Mosul. The first bomb attack destroyed a jeep and brought the entire convoy to a halt. Resistance fighters then open fired on the convoy, using rockets and automatic weapons. This well coordinated attack neutralized the entire convoy and its precision suggests that resistance fighters had specific knowledge of the travel plans of the convoy. Six American CIA operatives are rumored to have been killed inside the two Ford vehicles and other American soldiers killed in the jeeps however this can not yet be confirmed.
CIA operatives are even more dangerous to be around then Abraham's tanks. And where's that video by the way?
Twelve Resistance Fighters Martyred By An American Abatchi
We mean business now. We've broken out the dreaded "Abatachi".
American occupiers fired on two vehicles driven by resistance fighters killing 12 of them in Al-Kharagoul area, between Al-Yousifiah and Al-Latifiah, south of Baghdad. No other details are yet available.
Fallujah Still Under Seige
As of press time Friday morning, US military officials are reporting air strike in Fallujah, on suspected terrorist strongholds". Officials say the target was a safe house, where militants loyal to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi were believed to be meeting to plan more attacks however doctors in Fallujah say at least 10 people and wounded some 16 others, all civilians.

Fallujah airstrike kills 11, wounds 17
A U.S. air strike on the rebel-held city of Falluja in western Iraq killed 11 people and wounded 17 after a wedding party, with women and children among the casualties, Friday, residents and hospital doctors said. The U.S. military said a "precision strike" hit a safe house being used by associates of Jordanian Islamist militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in northwest Falluja at 1:15 a.m. Rescuers clawed through rubble with their bare hands after the raid, chanting "There is no God but God" when the body of one man was pulled from the debris.
And one of his brave, skulking killers has gone to his raisins.
Residents said the raid had hit the house shortly after a wedding party there, killing the groom and wounding the bride. "Credible intelligence sources confirmed Zarqawi leaders were meeting at the safe-house at the time of the strike," an unusually detailed U.S. military statement said. At the hospital, where blood pooled on the floor, a doctor named Rafah al-Hayat said 11 people had been killed and 17 wounded. One of his colleagues, Khaled Nasser, said nine females aged between 5 and 50 had been among the wounded. Reuters television footage showed four of the wounded women lying bloodied and bandaged in the hospital.
"Fatima, hurry the hell up, we're on in ten! Where's my rouge?! And someone pass the ketchup, dammit!"
The U.S. statement said more than a dozen air strikes had killed several Zarqawi leaders in the past month, including Mohammed al-Lubnani and Abu Anas al-Shami, described as Zarqawi's number two and spiritual adviser. The raids have coincided with efforts by Iraq's interim government and Falluja representatives to negotiate the return of Iraqi security forces to the city ahead of nationwide elections due to take place in January.
"See folks, Mr. Allawi is known as the 'good cop' in this-here game, and ..."

Explosion takes out terrorists, blast effect takes out civilian cover. Civilians will learn to stay away, rat out the terrorists or die. War in this city is ugly. Want to get rid of war in Fallujah? Tawhid Brigades claim Taba boom
A previously unheard of Islamist group claimed responsibility on Friday for bombs which killed at least 12 people at three resorts in Egypt near the Israeli border, according to a posting on an website often used by militants. The claim by the pro-al-Qaeda group calling itself the Islamic Tawhid Brigades could not be independently verified and some similar postings have turned out to be false in the past. "Four of your martyrdom-seeking brothers carried out this brave operation despite intensified security measures... and killed dozens of parasites," the statement said in Arabic.

The statement praised al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and his close aide Ayman al-Zawahri, an Egyptian, comparing them to historic Islamic military commanders. The group said it dedicated the attack to Palestinian militant leader Ahmed Yassin, killed in an Israeli attack in March, and vowed that it was "just the first shot against the Jews because our strikes will not cease until these infidels are thrown out of Islam's lands". It blasted Egypt, one of the few Arab countries with a peace treaty with Israel, as a "regime that committed treason against its own people and religion" and condemned Cairo for allowing "Jews and infidels to dance and indulge in immoral play in the land of Islam". Israel Radio broadcast reports of a claim from a second unheard of Islamic group, which analysts said should be treated with the utmost caution. It said a group calling itself the World Islamist Group assumed responsibility for the bombing. The reports said the group said the bombings were revenge for the deaths of Palestinians and Arabs in Palestine and Iraq and threatened to carry out additional attacks during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, which starts in about a week.

Many dead in Red Sea resort explosions
Three explosions at Egyptian resorts near the border with Israel have reportedly killed at least 30 people. The main blast happened at the Hilton hotel in the town of Taba on the Sinai peninsula - a resort that is popular with Israeli tourists. The cause is unclear, but Israeli security sources say they believe it was a car bomb attack. Shortly afterwards two smaller explosions were reported in nearby towns of Ras al-Shitan and Nuweiba. Egyptian hospital officials said four people were killed there. An Egyptian government spokesman put the number of wounded in the Taba blast at more than 160. Israel's deputy defence minister Zeev Boim, who is in Taba, said it was too early to say who carried out the attacks. But he told reporters: "In my personal opinion it seems that it is more fitted to the international terror groups like al-Qaeda or some branches of al-Qaeda."

According to Israeli media, 10 floors of the Hilton Hotel collapsed, trapping many people. The Egyptian authorities say there is no evidence of terrorism. Taba is the main crossing point between Israel and Egypt, and a major gateway for thousands of Israelis going on holiday to resorts and hotels on the Red Sea. Many holidaymakers would have been celebrating the last day of a Jewish holiday, Sukkot. Last month, the Israeli government urged its citizens not to visit Egypt, saying there had been a firm threat to tourists there. Israeli emergency teams are taking part in the rescue, and casualties are being treated in Taba and the nearby Israeli resort of Eilat.

If Egypt's tourism sector is destroyed, the country can always fall back onto its high-technology sector to propel its economy forward.

#3  I recall reading somewhere that the tourism industry in egypt took a dive after the IJ/MB attack at Luxor in the 1980's? (help me out here) and that their economy still hasn't fully recovered from that.

Now lets be nice here...

Hey Fred, I like the name generator. Jeamp Uluns sounds mongolian to me.

#6  N guard:

The Luxor attack was late '90's. I believe up to 50 tourists were killed while getting off or on their buses.

The time I was in Nuweiba was to celebrate Thanksgiving in '95. Beautiful beach and water. Took a bus up to Salahudin's Fortress, built on a small island several hundred yards off the coast just south of Taba. Well-preserved historic sight; kids loved it. Took the bus back to Nuweiba at night. Only time in my life I saw the outline of the dark side of a 3/4 moon, the air is so pure. I looked behind me and saw the lights of Taba, Eliat, and Aqaba. Saudi seemed to have turned off its lights, but I could see car headlights off to the east. Thought of Lawrence and how it must have looked to him. Electricity was humming and I thought if only these folks could work out their differences, a joint free port arrangement could be made, and other projects could be undertaken.

The conventional wisdom at the time was to keep a lid on everything in the name of stability, but I now know stability wasn't the proper term. Putridness would have been correct. The only way out of the morass is to promote what W has undertaken in the region and what he will undertake if he's elected. Upset the apple cart, clean out the cesspool, and follow up. I read a Lawrence bio in which was printed a study sheet with a list of rules on how to interact with the natives that he created to be distributed to all British forces under his command. Most would be trite in today's situation, but one stuck out. It basically said that when your Arab leader and you have come to an agreement on a particular policy, you remind him of it everyday, pull out the paper and show him everyday, be willing to take the blame from his followers if it saves his face as he will be even more cooperative with you though perhaps not in public. So W, what you have promised for Iraq and the region, stick to it and remind the Arabs (Allawi) and other Muslim states (Musharef) of what the plan is. Our Left here and that of the rest of the developed world is scatterbrained, so don't worry about them. Do the simple stuff first and well, and the rest will follow. Remember to keep your pledges made to them too. We're at the precipice. Think Lincoln, Churchill, and Orwell when things seem dark. And don't forget those, your military on the ground, sea, and air who have demonstrated to you their resolve by sacrificing life and limb. Their losses cannot be in vain.
