Yemeni army (Hadi) moving toward Arhab under air-cover from coalition
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Al Arabiya’s correspondent in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
reported that the legitimate forces are moving towards the Directorate of Arhab after taking control of nearly ninety percent of the Directorate of Nahm.

The latest progress was accompanied by other progression towards the Directorate of Erb in Sanaa towards Qutbin, Bani Mohammed and Masura amid major engineering effort to the construction of mountain roads and de-mining.

The national army advanced towards al-’Arqat, al-Madfoun, Qudah and Da’a in the direction of the Khawlan and Bani Hashish, to join the fronts towards Nqail Ben Ghilan - the most important goals before reaching the heart of Sanaa.

The progress came under a heavy air cover of the coalition’s support for the legitimacy and artillery shelling of the coalition and national army.

In similar context, Yemeni sources reported that Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
militias kidnapped about 12 civilians from the Directorate of Arhab, north of Sanaa, and blew up three houses.

The sources added that the Houthis attacked several villages in the Directorate, including Beit al-Hafn, Arshan and al-Ghula and launched raids on homes.

These developments come in light of the progress of the National Army in Nahm, which became the outskirts of the Directorate of welcome.

Spanish police shoot "Frenchman" who shouted 'Allahu akbar’
Scare quotes in the headline are mine.
[IsraelTimes] Officers mistakenly suspected the man, of Moroccan origin, was carrying a weapon; his life is not in danger and he is being treated in hospital

Police in Spain shot and injured an unarmed Frenchie on Saturday at a toll station near the French border, who officers said was shouting ’holy shit! Allahu akbar.’

The officers mistakenly suspected he had a weapon, a police statement said, adding that they do not expect to open a terrorism investigation.

The man, of Moroccan origin, was travelling with a woman in a vehicle registered in La Belle France and approached the toll by the border town of La Jonquera in the north of the country in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police said a Guardia Civil patrol was alerted because the man had a "strange" attitude and "seemed to be manipulating something inside the vehicle".

"The police asked him to get out. He finally got out with something in his hands and he moved towards the officers," said a spokesperson for the Catalan police.

The spokesperson said that, according to the coppers present, the man "shouted ’holy shit! Allahu akbar'(God is greatest)".

"The coppers repeatedly asked him to stop, shot in the air to intimidate him but as he continued to move forward, they shot him in the hip," he said.

The man "then undressed" and "appeared to suffer from mental problems".

According to the Guardia Civil his life "is not in danger" and he is being cared for in a hospital in Gerone.

Police say an investigation is underway to establish the facts about what happened.

Eritrean diaspora stages protest in the Swedish capital
[Al Jazeera] Hundreds of Eritrea
...is run by the People's Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ), with about the amounts of democracy and justice you'd expect from a party with that name. National elections have been periodically scheduled and cancelled; none have ever been held in the country. The president, Isaias Afewerki, has been in office since independence in 1993 and will probably die there of old age...
ns gathered outside the embassy of the east African nation in the Swedish capital Stockholm on Friday to protest against the recent arrest of teachers and the director of an Islamic school.

The arrest of Hajji Musa Mohammednur, president of the board of the Al Diaa Islamic School, and several other teachers triggered a rare protest in the capital Asmara on October 31.

Thousands marched towards the president's office, demanding the release of Mohammednur and the other detainees.

Mohammednur has opposed the government's school nationalisation policy that among other strictures bans the use of hijab, a headscarf worn by many Moslem women who feel it is part of their religion, and religious education in the school based in Asmara. The policy also affects Christian schools.

The arrest of Mohammednur "was the spark which unleashed the people's anger" in Eritrea and among the diaspora, Zein Shawkai, a political dissident who participated in the protest, told Al Jazeera.

The protest marked a first in Eritrea since the country gained independence in 1991 from Æthiopia following a 30-year war. The Eritrean state forbids any associations and gatherings.

The protesters in Stockholm included young and old Eritreans, Moslem and Christian, and a few Syrians who came to express solidarity. They hollered poorly rhymed slogans against the government demanding the removal of Eritrean President Isayas Afowerki: "Down, down Isayas" and "The people want to get rid of the regime".

Five militants, one Indian soldier killed in gun battle in held Kashmir
[DAWN] Five suspected holy warriors and an Indian air force commando were killed during a fierce gunbattle on Saturday in India-held Kashmire, which also left another soldier injured, the Indian military said.

The shootout began when soldiers cordoned off a neighbourhood in the northern area of Hajin following a tip-off that armed holy warriors were hiding there, said army front man Colonel Rajesh Kalia.

"Five holy warriors have been killed in the operation," Kalia told AFP. "One IAF (India Air Force) soldier was killed and another army soldier was injured."

On Friday a turban and a police officer were killed in the outskirts of Srinagar during a brief shootout.

Anti-India sentiment runs deep in Kashmire's mostly Moslem population and most people support the separatists' cause. Nearly 70,000 people have been killed in the uprising and the ensuing Indian military crackdown.

Three youths were detained by police Saturday night outside Kiryat Arba during a protest over a Friday car-ramming terror attack in which a resident of the West Bank town was maimed.

Dozens of members of the close-knit community were holding a demonstration at the entrance to Kiryat Arba when several youths attempted to block traffic on the main road passing the settlement, according to police.

Officers clashed with the protesters as they tried to clear them from the road. One was detained for disobeying police orders and another for attacking an officer, police said. Both were released after questioning.

A third protester was tossed in the calaboose

Israeli troops raid home of Gush Etzion car-ramming terrorist
[IsraelTimes] Soldiers search the Halhul house of 17-year-old who injured two in Friday attack, encounter rock-throwing by residents.

Israeli security forces on Saturday raided the home of a 17-year-old Paleostinian terrorist who carried out a car-ramming attack in the central West Bank a day earlier, Hadashot news (formerly Channel 2) reported.

Forces searched the home of the attacker who rammed his car into two people in Gush Etzion south of Jerusalem, seriously injuring one of them. The assailant was shot and maimed when he exited the vehicle and attempted to stab soldiers.

Some rioting was reported during the operation in the village of Halhul, with residents throwing rocks at soldiers. The troops responded with non-lethal means. There were no reports of injuries among the Israeli forces.

On Friday the army set up checkpoints around the West Bank town. The family of the terrorist was also detained for questioning, the army said.
I'm not sure why the editors refuse to name the attacker, Az al-Din Kraja, 17.

15 die in car bomb attack in Idlib

Syria troops, allies retake most of last ISIS-held town
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Syrian troops and allied fighters advanced on Saturday to capture most of Albu Kamal, a monitor said, in a tug-of-war over the ISIS group’s last urban stronghold in the country.

The town in Syria’s oil-rich Deir Ezzor province has changed hands several times, with government troops announcing its capture but losing it to a blistering ISIS counter-attack a week ago.

Syria’s army and Lebanese, Iranian and Iraqi loyalists re-entered Albu Kamal two days ago and by Saturday had taken most of it from IS, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

"Syrian regime forces, (Lebanese) Hezbollah, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, and Iraqi militias seized control on Saturday of more than 80 percent of Albu Kamal, after a huge attack that began Friday night," said Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman.

"ISIS was pushed back to the northern and northeastern sectors of the city. Clashes are ongoing," Abdel Rahman told AFP.

The Britannia-based monitor said the fresh push came with heavy bombing raids by regime ally Russia, and that troops were advancing more "carefully" than in their previous assault to ensure their gains would not be rolled back.

A string of territorial defeats across northern and eastern Syria left Albu Kamal, near the border with Iraq, as the last significant town held by ISIS in the country.

Losing it to regime forces would cap the group’s reversion to a guerrilla organization with no urban base.

On Saturday, Syrian state television

aired live footage from Albu Kamal, showing plumes of smoke rising over the city’s skyline as kabooms echoed in the background.

It said the army was preparing to "storm the remaining areas" held by ISIS in Albu Kamal’s east.

"What has most impeded the Syrian army’s advance is the large amounts of mines left by ISIS (ISIS) and its attempt at using families as human shields," state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
reported.

IDF tank fires warning shot at Syrian forces near Golan border
[IsraelTimes] Assad troops were fortifying a position in the demilitarized zone along the Israel-Syria cease-fire line, in violation of truce agreement

An IDF tank fired warning shots at the forces of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Scourge of Qusayr...
near the Golan Heights cease-fire line between the two countries on Saturday, amid increased tensions along Israel’s northern borders.

The Israeli military said the warning shots came because Syrian forces were constructing a fortified position in the demilitarized zone that runs along the border, in violation of the 1974 truce agreement between Israel and Syria. The agreement "prohibits the entry of heavy construction tools or military vehicles into the demilitarized zone," the army said.

There were no reports of casualties on the Syrian side.

The army also said it had filed a complaint with the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
peacekeeper force stationed on the Golan, which oversee the cease-fire.

The incident occurred near the Druze town of Hader on the Syrian side. The town was the site of a suicide kaboom earlier in the month that killed nine Syrian Druze and then sparked festivities between Syrian government forces and rebels.

That incident led to an unusual move from Israel, which said it would defend the Druze population of the village.

In a series of tweets, the army’s Arabic front man Avichay Adraee said the IDF was prepared to "support the village residents and work to prevent any harm or the occupation of the village, out of a commitment to the Druze population."

The statement reflected ongoing pressure on Israeli leaders from the Druze communities in the Galilee and on the Golan to help their coreligionists across the border who are often caught in the crossfire between Sunni rebels and Alawite and Shiite pro-government forces.

Over the past six years, Israel has clung to a hands-off policy toward the war, only getting involved when one of its "red lines" is transgressed. These "red lines" include the violation of Israeli illusory sovereignty through deliberate or accidental attacks, Iranian-supported militias taking positions on the Golan border, and attempts to transfer advanced weapons to the Hezbollah terrorist group.

Syrian raids on rebel-held region kill 14 civilians
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] At least 14 civilians including a maiden of tender years were killed by Syrian regime bombardment of the rebel-held Eastern Ghouta region near Damascus on Saturday, a monitor said.

Ten of the victims were killed by air strikes and another four died in rocket fire, the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

It said another 40 people were maimed and the corpse count was likely to rise.

At a medical center near the town of Hazza, an AFP photographer saw maimed children and a child’s body wrapped in plastic.

on a military base near the town of Harasta.

On Friday, regime bombardments killed at least 19 people, including six children, mostly in the city of Douma.

The deaths came amid an escalation in tit-for-tat attacks between regime forces and rebels holding the enclave on the capital’s eastern outskirts.

Retaliatory shelling of Damascus on Thursday and Friday by rebels killed nine people.

The official SANA news agency said on Saturday rebel shelling of the city killed one person and maimed 20.

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Two persons were killed, while a third from the same family was wounded in an attack launched by Islamic State militants against their house in south of Nineveh, an official was quoted saying on Friday.

“A group of IS members attacked, today, a house in Jahouni village, in Hammam al-Alil. They opened fire against the residents, which caused death of the father and one of his sons and injury of another son,” Khalaf al-Jabouri, head of Hammam al-Alil town, said.

“Security troops headed to the accident spot and transferred the wounded to nearby hospital and took the victims to forensic medicine department,” he added.

Earlier on the day, Jabouri called for opening the floodgates of Mosul dam to force the hiding militants get out of their havens, which they use to attack civilians in Hammam al-Alil.
