UN report accuses Puntland Prez of weak anti-terrorism policy, piracy links
GAROWE, Somalia -- United Nations Monitoring Group on Somalia and Eritrea has acknowledged in a confidential report that the President of Somalia's North Eastern State of Puntland Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas has showed extreme reluctance to address the upsurge in extremism, saying his ties to pirate linchpins also remain apparent, Garowe Online reports.

The 8-member panel of UN investigators further spotlighted the increasing threat by beleaguered Islamist militants to the state's peace, Al Shabaab infiltration into low-morale Puntland Forces, frailty of security apparatuses and Gaas' links with top pirate leaders. Citing poor cooperation from Puntland presidency and consistent stumbling block by President Gaas himself, UN monitors say:" The Puntland authorities hindrance is indicative of its apparent unwillingness to robustly address the threat of Al-Shabaab".

Chief of cabinet at President's Office, Deeq Sulieman Yusuf was initially in contact with the UN investigators but shortly after the cooperation became suspended, the group unveiled that they were again confronted with repeated efforts by the Puntland authorities, in particular the President, to obstruct its investigations into Al-Shabaab activities, both within the territory of Puntland and beyond.

Bangladesh
'Do not confuse Islam with terrorism'
[Dhaka Tribune] Prime Minister the loathesome Sheikh Hasina
...Bangla dynastic politician and current Prime Minister of Bangladesh. She has been the President of the Bangla Awami League since the Lower Paleolithic. She is the eldest of five children of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangla. Her party defeated the BNP-led Four-Party Alliance in the 2008 parliamentary elections. She has once before held the office, from 1996 to 2001, when she was defeated in a landslide. She and the head of the BNP, Khaleda Zia show such blind animosity toward each other that they are known as the Battling Begums..
has urged the international community not to confuse Islam with terrorism.

She made this comment at the recently concluded Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) held in Milan on October 16-17.

"She made a strong statement on terrorism in ASEM summit and said it is the enemy of development," Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali quoted Hasina as saying at a press briefing at the ministry yesterday.

Hasina urged the global community not to identify bandidos bandidos bad boys on the basis of religion or nation, he said.

"The prime minister said terrorism can be curbed by a great deal if global arms trade can be controlled."

The soil of Bangladesh will not be allowed to use for terrorist activities against any country, Mahmood said quoting the prime minister.

Terrorism has become a burning issue in recent times after the emergence of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) that has created anarchy in Syria and Iraq.

The global leaders discussed the ISIL issue in the ASEM retreat where Hasina said Bangladesh opposes all forms of terrorism.

Bangladesh believes in territorial integrity, illusory sovereignty and independence of Iraq and Syria and wants to see a peaceful solution in those countries, he said.

Britain
UK Adds Qatari Financier To Terror Sanctions List
[Ynet] The British government has banned a Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
i financier it accuses of funding al-Qaeda from doing business in the UK.

The Treasury says Abd al-Rahman bin Umayr al-Nuaymi has been added to a financial sanctions list. The move means British banks are barred from dealing with him and are required to freeze his assets.

The British move comes 10 months after US authorities added al-Nuayami to a list of "Specially Designated Global Terrorists" and accused him of providing financial support to groups including al-Qaeda and Somalia-based al-Shabaab
... the personification of Somali state failure...
. The US Treasury said that for a time he was transferring more than $2 million a month to al-Qaeda in Iraq.

China-Japan-Koreas
Shots fired as tension rises along Korean border over anti-Kim leaflets
[THEGUARDIAN] Troops exchanged gunfire on Sunday along the border between North and South Korea, the second outbreak of hostilities in the past 10 days. There were no reports of injuries or damage, but the 10 minutes of shooting highlighted rising tensions between the divided countries.

The shootout began after North Korea sent soldiers close to the border in an attempt, analysts said, to put pressure on the South to stop leafleting its citizens. The previous conflict came when North Korea opened fire on balloons carrying anti-Pyongyang leaflets that were floating over the border. South Korean activist groups, mostly made up of North Korean defectors, said they were determined to continue sending the leaflets.

South Korean said its soldiers fired warning shots at about 10 North Korean soldiers who were approaching the military demarcation line inside the demilitarised zone that bisects the Korean peninsula. Two shots believed to have been fired by North Korean soldiers were found at a South Korean guard post.

South Korea's joint chiefs of staff said the North Korean soldiers turned back after the shooting. North Korea opened fire on 10 October after activists floated propaganda balloons across the border, following through on a previous threat to attack. There were no reports of casualties from that incident either.

North Korea has repeatedly demanded South Korea ban activists from sending leaflets, which often urge North Korean citizens to rise up against its leader, Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
. South Korea has refused, saying activists are exercising freedom of speech.

Cheong Seong-chang, an analyst at the private Sejong Institute thinktank, said the exchange of gunfire on Sunday showed that North Korea was intentionally escalating military tension to spread fear about possible casualties should leafleting continue.

The latest exchanges of gunfire serve as a reminder of long-running tensions between the Koreas despite earlier hopes of easing animosities after a group of top North Korean officials made a rare visit to South Korea early this month and agreed to resume senior-level talks.

The Grand Turk
Obama and Erdogan promise to intensify ISIS fight in Syria
US President Barack Obama called his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan and they pledged to step up the fight against the ISIS group in Syria, the White House said on Sunday.
Unless it's to help the Kurds...
The two presidents discussed "Syria, particularly the situation in Kobani, and steps that could be taken to counter ISIS advances," in a Saturday night phone call, the White House said.

"The two leaders pledged to continue to work closely together to strengthen cooperation against ISIS," the White House said.

Obama also "expressed appreciation for Turkey hosting over a million refugees, including thousands from Kobani.
Guess Champ missed the part in the NYT about the Turks turning Kurds back at Kobani. And here I thought Champ read the entire paper to get his news...
Obama and Erdogan "also discussed the need for continuing close cooperation on efforts to consolidate peace and stability in Afghanistan," the White House said.

Besides, they're quite busy bombing the Kurdish protestors at the moment. Turkey would oppose US arms transfers to Kurd fighters
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his country would not agree to any US arms transfers to Kurdish fighters battling militants in Syria. Turkey views the Kurdish fighters as an extension of the PKK, which has waged a 30-year insurgency in Turkey and is designated a terrorist group.
But otherwise they're all in, yewbetcha...
The state-run Anadolu news agency on Sunday quoted Erdogan as saying the fighters are "equal to the PKK" and that Turkey "would not say 'yes' to such a thing."

Turkey's opposition to arms transfers could hamper the US-led coalitions' efforts to fight the extremists and further complicate relations between Turkey and the United States.

The United States has said it has engaged in intelligence sharing with Kurdish fighters and officials have not ruled out future arms transfers to the Kurdish fighters.

Turkish Report: Bodies Of 2 Hamas Commanders Taken By IDF During Gaza Op
Anyone want to take the bet that a single word of this is true?
I'm actually hoping it's true. Israel needs to take about 98 more Hamas bodies -- or make them -- so that when Hamas demands a trade for the remains of a single Israeli soldier, Israel can offer back in kind with the usual expected ratio...
[Ynet] Paleostinian sources told Turkish news agency Anatolia that an investigation conducted by Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,' military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, indicated that the IDF took the bodies of two of the group's field commanders during fighting in the southern Gazoo Strip as part of Operation Protective Edge.
"Yeah, we dunnit, but they dunnit, too. We know 'cause we seen it wid our own eyes!"
According to the sources, the information about the fate of two commanders of Hamas' elite units was communicated by a prisoner affiliated with the Al-Qassam Brigades held in an Israeli jail.
The Times of Israel adds names:
An unnamed official in the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades confirmed to the Andolu Agency that Bassil Abul Nagga and Ibrahim al-Ghamour, commanders of an elite Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, unit, were killed in combat with Israeli forces in eastern Khan Yunis during Operation Protective Edge.

India-Pakistan
Iran summons Pakistani ambassador over border killings
[DAWN] Iran has summoned the Pak ambassador and demanded immediate steps to stop attacks by "bully boyz and rebels" that sparked deadly festivities on the countries' border, state media reported Sunday.

Noor Muhammad Jadmani was called to the foreign ministry on Saturday evening following the deaths in the restive border province of Sistan-Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
, the official IRNA news agency said.

Iranian Ambassador to Pakistain Ali Raza Haghighian was summoned to the Foreign Office in Islamabad the same day and Pakistain lodged a strong protest with him over the recent shooting which had killed two Iranian border guards and a Pak paramilitary officer on Friday evening.

Iran claimed rebels had tried to infiltrate the country.

Khyber residents given three-day deadline to surrender arms
[DAWN] The political administration of Khyber tribal region has given a three-day deadline to hard boyz in the Jamrud and Bara areas to lay down their arms and surrender or face a full-fledged operation.

Pamphlets containing the message and deadline were dropped from helicopters into the Jamrud and Bara areas of Khyber tribal region.

The announcement effectively ended hopes of talks, which a tribal jirga had recommended to the government, a day earlier.

Most jirga members had wanted an immediate halt to the ongoing 'Operation Khyber 1' in the area and asked for a channel of negotiations should be opened with outlawed murderous Moslem groups of Bara.

Khyber agency's political agent Shahab Ali Shah, however, had rejected the jirga recommendations about holding talks with murderous Moslem groups and said the jirga was not convened to authorise elders to hold talks with anti-state elements.

"You are authorised only to talk to those who surrender to security forces and accept the writ of the government," he said.

The jirga ended inconclusively as tribal elders refused to shoulder the Collective Territorial Responsibilities during the ongoing military operation against hard boyz in their respective areas.

At least 30 suspects hard boyz have died during the ongoing operation which was launched on credible information about the presence of hard boyz in parts of Sipah and Akkakhel areas, according to Shahab Ali Shah.

K-P textbooks to carry slogans against corruption, for unity
[DAWN] The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
Textbook Board has decided to incorporate anti-corruption slogans into the textbooks in the light of the Holy Koran, Hadith and wise sayings to create awareness of the evil of corruption in society, according to sources.

They said that some verses of the Holy Koran insisting on the unity among Moslems would also be inscribed on the inner titles of the textbooks for grade-1 to 12th.

They said that the KPTBB had taken this decision with the consultation of the National Accountability Bureau and Directorate of Curricula and Teachers Education.

The sources said that around 100 messages against corruption had been compiled by the board officials from the Holy Koran, Hadith and wise sayings.

A complete verse of Sura-e-Hujrat had been selected in which Almighty Allah insists on the Moslems to be united, they said. The decision would be implemented from the academic year 2015-16 commencing from coming April.

The NAB had floated the idea of incorporating slogans against corruption into the textbooks while Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
had suggested verses from the Holy Koran about unity among Moslems for the purpose.

Iranian envoy given demarche over border clashes
[DAWN] Iranian ambassador was summoned to Foreign Office on Saturday to receive a demarche following border festivities that left a Pak paramilitary soldier dead.

No statement was issued by FO about the summoning of Ambassador Ali Raza Haghighian.

However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
a source said that Iran was asked to investigate the incident in which a Frontier Corps (FC) soldier was killed and at least three others were maimed due to firing by Iranian border guards.

The incident happened after some bandidos forces of Evil attacked an Iranian border post.

The Iranian ambassador's visit to FO was preceded by another incident of Iranian troops firing mortars into Pak territory.

International-UN-NGOs
Israel Delegation Anticipates Tough Questioning By UN Rights Panel
[Ynet] Human Rights Committee has invited Israel, as signatory to international convention on civil rights, to address claims of rights violations.

A senior Israeli delegation that arrived in Geneva on Sunday is bracing for a grilling at its appearance before the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
' Human Rights Committee, in light of the summer's conflict in Gazoo.

The committee, which is responsible for examining the implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), is expected to press the Israeli team on the management of Operation Protective Edge, as well as on a range of other human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
issues.

Every few years, states that are signatories to the ICCPR are invited to present their policies and respond to complaints about human rights violations on their soil. Israel's appearance is scheduled for Monday.

In light of the anticipated challenge, Israel has sent an atypically broad delegation, which for the first time includes a representative of the Justice Ministry's uppermost echelons, with ministry director-general Emmy Palmor heading the delegation.

Palmor is accompanied by bigwigs from various government departments, including the deputy attorney-general for international law, Dr. Roi Sheindorf; the head of economic development for the Arab sector at the Prime Minister's Office, Ayman Saif; and the head of the international law at the Military Advocate General, Colonel Noam Newman.

The 18-strong UN committee, comprised of human rights experts including Professor Yuval Shany of the Hebrew University, will question the Israeli delegation for three hours.

One of the central issues on the agenda is Protective Edge; the Israeli delegation is expected to adhere to the state's position that the operation included regular in-depth oversight from legal experts who checked that the operation abided by international law. The delegation will emphasize Israel's adherence to self-examination.

"We will show how Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, fired from civilian areas, and how we canceled actions for fear of harming civilians," Palmor told Ynet. "Also present will be the international deputy to the attorney-general and the army's designated leader on the issue, who will testify in person how they were consulted and how when they said no, there were no operations."

The delegation anticipates questioning on the Gazoo Strip in general; the regions of Judea and Samaria and East Jerusalem; the prisoners exchanged in Shalit deal who have been re-imprisoned; the jail conditions for security and administrative prisoners and their hunger strikes; foreign workers, illegal entrants to Israel and asylum seekers; the rights of the Arabs and other minorities in Israel; the status of women and people with disabilities.

"We have a lot of things to be proud of, we're not going there with the feeling that we should come with shields or that they will throw tomatoes at us. We know there will be tough questions, and we are ready for them," Palmor said.

"We ourselves will be showing what the state is doing on many other levels. I'm not going to pretend that we will be leaving with a commendation for Israel, but I believe you can give a very serious and professional response and provide a broader picture of the State of Israel. Although this is a political arena and a professional arena, it is also an influential one."

Deal Agreed for Australia Forces to Deploy in Iraq
[AnNahar] Australia's foreign minister said Sunday she had reached a deal with Baghdad for the deployment of about 200 special forces to assist Iraqi troops in their fight against jihadists.

Julie Bishop told news hounds in Baghdad she had met brass hats to hammer out a deal allowing Australian commandos who have been waiting in the United Arab Emirates to deploy to Iraq.

"I have finalized an agreement for a legal framework to enable our special forces to be deployed here," she said as she wrapped up a two-day visit.

Bishop said the special forces' mission would be to "advise and assist the Iraqi government in building up the capacity of the Iraqi security forces".

The agreement came a day after the appointment of interior and defense ministers ended a security limbo that had been seen as an obstacle to coordination in the fight against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. jihadist group.

Australia was one of the first nations to join the United States' aerial campaign against the group, which controls large parts of Iraq and Syria and is increasingly seen as a global threat.

During her trip, Bishop reiterated that Australian forces would be deployed in an advisory capacity and that Canberra had no plans to send ground troops to fight alongside Iraqi forces.

Hamas chief's daughter hospitalized in Tel Aviv
[I24NEWS.TV] The daughter of Gazoo's Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, chief Ismayil Haniyeh received emergency medical treatment in Israel earlier this month, Paleostinian sources told Rooters news agency. She was hospitalized in Ichilov, Tel Aviv's largest hospital, for five days.

Ichilov confirmed she received treatment, after suffering complications of medical treatment received in Gazoo, Israeli daily Yedioth Achronot reported.
No doubt the BDS folks have an explanation for Israel's humanity to Hamas...
Over 1,000 Paleostinians living in Gazoo and the West Bank receive treatment in Ichilov annually, the hospital's spokesperson added.

Additionally, it was made known that she passed into Israel through the Erez Border Crossing.

Haniyeh's family members received medical treatment in Israel before: last June, his 68-year-old mother-in-law received treatment at the Augusta Victoria Hospital in East Jerusalem, by the Mount of Olives.
We should ask the BDS folks about that one too...
In November, his granddaughter has been hospitalized in Israel, as well. Amal Haniyeh, aged one, suffered from a serious infection of the digestive tract which has affected her nervous system. She underwent treatment in Israel and was returned to Gazoo when her condition stabilized, but passed away shortly after.
You mean the Israelis didn't kill her? Hold her for ransom? Turn her into matzo balls?
Gazook residents, usually barred from entering Israel except under special circumstances, are sometimes allowed to receive medical treatment inside Israel, if approved by Israeli army's Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) unit.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
At high tide in fight for Kobani, Obama calls Erdogan
[JPOST] The fight between Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
and Western allies for the Syrian border city of Kobani intensified over the weekend, as Islamic State forces bore down on three sides and shelled Kurdish strongholds within.

Eye witness reports indicate that municipality buildings, as well as a market place, were targeted. The group fired 44 shells, some of which hit Turkish territory, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The US-led air coalition over Syria engaged in the battle by striking Islamic State targets around Kobani at least six times. With dozens of countries across Europe and the Middle East participating in strikes, the campaign has focused on Kobani more than any other city or asset, including Erbil and the djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
Dam in Iraq at the launch of the campaign.

Turkey, however, has yet to participate, a month into the battle over a city in its sights across the border. Ankara wants coalition partners to also target the regime of Bashir al-Assad, the embattled president of Syria at the center of the civil war there that has killed over 200,000 people.

After fighting intensified on Saturday, US President Barack Obama
My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it...
spoke with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan by phone on Sunday to discuss the battle and to strategize "steps that could be taken to counter [Islamic State] advances," according to the White House.

"The two leaders pledged to continue to work closely together to strengthen cooperation against [Islamic State]," the White House said in a readout.

But the weekend was also marked by a series of suicide kabooms from Kobani to Baghdad, Iraq, where Islamic State first mastered the boom-mobile-- or vehicle borne improvised bomb (VBIED)-- in its original incarnation as al Qaeda in Iraq in 2004.

Two such boom-mobiles were detonated in Kobani on Sunday, targeting Kurdish positions. The city is predominantly Kurd and has provided refuge to minorities across Syria fleeing the civil war there.

And in Baghdad on Sunday, one jacket wallah killed 19 and maimed 28 others outside a Shi'ite mosque, where mourners were attending a funeral.

Islamic State has not yet taken credit for the attack. But it comes among a marked spike in suicide kabooms in Baghdad since a US-led coalition began bombing the group across Iraq and Syria last month.

"The attacker approached the entrance of the mosque and went kaboom! among the crowd," one police officer said. The mosque is reportedly intact.

Iran says militants infiltrating from Pakistan
[NEWS.YAHOO] Iran has proof that hard boyz are entering the country from neighboring Pakistain to carry out attacks and will be pursuing the matter through "diplomatic channels," an Iranian military official said Saturday.

Abdollah Araghi, a senior Revolutionary Guard commander, was quoted by state TV as saying that his forces have provided documents to Iranian officials proving that hard boyz cross the border to carry out attacks.

"We have provided information and complete documents about the infiltration of terrorist elements (from Pakistain into Iran) to political and security officials to be pursued through diplomatic channels," he said.

On Friday the front man for Pakistain's Frontier Corps said Iranian border guards shot up a patrol van, killing a member of the paramilitary border guard and wounding three other troops.

The shooting came a day after Iranian Brig. Gen. Hussein Salami issued a stark warning to Pakistain, saying that Iranian forces may enter Pak territory to "prevent terrorists" from entering Iran.

Last week, four Iranian guards were killed by unknown attackers in the eastern Iranian province of Sistan and Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
, which borders Pakistain's southwestern Balochistan province.

Lebanon Slowly Dragged Into War With Islamic State
[IsraelTimes] With all eyes on the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group's onslaught in Iraq and Syria, a less conspicuous but potentially just as explosive front line with the Death Eaters is emerging in Leb, where Lebanese soldiers and Shiite Hezbollah guerrillas are increasingly pulled into deadly fighting with the Sunni gunnies along the country's border with Syria.

The US has been speeding up delivery of small ammunition to shore up Leb's army, but recent cross-border attacks and beheading of Lebanese soldiers by Islamic State fighters -- and the defection of four others to the Death Eaters -- has sent shockwaves across this Mediterranean country, eliciting fear of a potential slide into the kind of Lion of Islam, sectarian violence afflicting both Syria and Iraq, and increasingly prompting minorities to take up arms.

Why should it? During the Bush II ear all sorts of the usual suspects demanded that the US adhere to protocols it never ratified and many 'laws' that the same suspects made up out of thin air. Of course, the usual Left meme of 'one set of rules for me, another set of rules for thee' exempts everyone else (see - GC requirement to wear distinctive markings to differentiate civilians from combatants and prohibitions of using 'human shields')

#16  #9 Don't both sides have to sign the Geneva Conventions for them to apply?

No. It applies to the country that signed them and they have to fight as if the hostile nation did.

Unfortunately, the conventions are some of the most misquoted things and usually by the left.

When I was in back in the early 90s (so this might have changed since then) a few things had to happen for the hostile combatants to fall under the protection of the Geneva Conventions.

1) The fighting force had to be internationally recognized. So a UN country had to support and recognize the faction.

2) The fighting force has to wear a uniform or a identifiable band or mark. Like an armband with their recognized logo or stitched to their clothes.

3) The fighting force cannot use civilian buildings as shields or fighting positions. Hospitals, buildings of worship or schools.

4) The fighting force had to treat captured civilians and soldiers with the same treatment as required by the Conventions.

Any one of those being broken removed the protection of the Conventions. So with the Iraqi insurgents, they broke every one of them so legally the US could have dragged the fighters they found out into the streets and hung them from the lampposts and still have followed the conventions.

ISIS obviously violates most of the conditions to start with so summarily shooting them is ok.
Now if the US sends troops in there are additional UCMJ rules that will apply and orders from on high that will keep that from happening of course. But I think that executions of fighters would go a long way in keeping other fighters from joining.

#17  I amnot sure about it Darth Vader. While planning for Barbarossathe German Higgh Command issued the directive that because Soviet union had not signed the Geneva Conventions German troops were not bound by them. So from the very first minute they shot Soviet prisoners and bombed Soviet medevac trains well before the Soviets had captured their first prisoner or been able to land their first bomb onay train.
German officers were even alloed to turn a blind eye on rapes.

Officers were even allowed to choose what to do about rapes. Punishingh

Posted by: JFM || 10/20/2014 14:51 Comments || Top||

#19  Per the Convention, one is not obligated to follow the Accord if one's opponent has not signed. JFM is absolutely right.

In Afghanistan 2002, we followed the Accord because the old, old government there (King Whois) had signed way back when, and it was thought to be a gray area in international law whether the Taliban represented the 'legitimate' government. So Taliban fighters were treated per the Accord whereas al-Q fighters were not.

Posted by: JohnQC || 10/20/2014 22:06 Comments || Top||

#25  The Geneva Convention seems to be trotted out by the lefties any time we enter into a conflict involving "asymmetrical" opposition. Because they don't wear uniforms, use children, dogs, donkeys, and the mentally ill as bombs, and kill prisoners, they are not to receive the protections of the Convention. That being said, we should keep the moral high ground and not act as they do.

However, we do not have to take prisoners. Finding one picture or one video on a cell phone of a beheading, is enough to shoot the lot of them when you capture a group.

The clear message for the animals of ISIS is we will not give any quarter as you do not or will not give any quarter to any of ours. We should pile them up in the town square and let their bodies rot, they do not even deserve the rituals of Islam for the treatment of the dead. We should take no prisoners ever when fighting them.

Of course any prisoners we take put us in the position to have to enter the legal morass the ACLU would create over prisoner treatment. No prisoners, no rights. Also, we keep the media, Amnesia International, Human Rights Watch, the UN, the Red Cross and any other pseudo humanitarian bleeding heart sympathizer out of the way until the vultures have picked the bones clean and the wind has covered them with sand.

ISIS? Who? Don't know what you are talking about. Yes we fought a war and we won. That is all you need to know.
