450 Jihadists Killed in Egypt Sinai Offensive
[An Nahar] The Egyptian army said Tuesday that 450 jihadists are estimated to have been killed in its eight-month offensive against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group in the Sinai Peninsula.

The military launched a large-scale operation dubbed "Sinai 2018" in February to rid Sinai of IS jihadists after an attack on a mosque in the north of the peninsula that killed more than 300 people.

Since the start of the campaign, 450 jihadists were presumed to have been killed "in the north and the center of Sinai by (soldiers) and police," army front man Tamer al-Rifai told AFP.

According to army figures, around 30 soldiers have been killed during the operation.

Jihadists began an insurgency in Egypt after the 2013 ouster of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi, who was forced out by the military in the face of mass protests against his rule and that of his Moslem Brüderbund.

The army on Tuesday rejected criticism from rights groups over the impact on civilians of its campaign in Sinai.

It says that people in the peninsula support its operation and receive humanitarian aid.

"All air strikes are carried out by the army outside residential areas," Rifai said on Tuesday.

Journalists are barred from going to areas targeted in the Sinai 2018 campaign, although the army organized a rare visit to the North Sinai capital El-Arish in July.

A countrywide state of emergency was imposed in April last year, following two suicide kabooms at churches which were claimed by IS.

On Tuesday, President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi extended the measure by a further three months.

Arabia
Trump says he has no financial links to Saudi Arabia
[ALMASDARNEWS] US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
said on Tuesday that he has no business interests in either Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
or Russia, dismissing reports to the contrary as fake news.

"For the record, I have no financial interests in Saudi Arabia (or Russia, for that matter). Any suggestion that I have is just more FAKE NEWS (of which there is plenty)!" Trump said in a Twitter message.

At the same time, multiple media reports have noted Trump’s past business dealings with the Saudis, including Trump’s claim from a 2015 rally during which he said the kingdom spent millions of dollars on apartments in Trump’s New York buildings and other properties.

In addition, CNN reported that a lobbying firm for Saudi Arabia has spent more than $270,000 between October 2016 and March 2017 at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, DC.

There are also reports that according to public records, Trump registered eight limited-liability companies with ties to possible deals in Saudi Arabia.
Four were dissolved or canceled two months after their creation, and the other four were dissolved or canceled after November of 2016.

UAE Charges British Student with Spying
[An Nahar] The United Arab Emirates has charged a British PhD student with spying in the Gulf country, as his wife Tuesday called on Britannia to defend his innocence.

Matthew Hedges stands accused of "spying for a foreign country, jeopardising the military, political and economic security of the state", UAE attorney general Hamad al-Shamsi said late Monday.

The 31-year-old, who was researching the UAE's foreign and internal security policies after the 2011 Arab Spring revolutions, was detained at Dubai airport on May 5.

Hedges' wife Daniela Tejada said Tuesday he been "held in an undisclosed location in the UAE in solitary confinement" with limited access to the consulate and his family as well as no access to a lawyer until last week.

She said Hedges had been told last week he "was being charged with gathering information and sharing it with a foreign agency - the UK Government".

Tejada called on the British government to "clarify publically that Matt is innocent of the charges and that there have been many falsehoods said about him".

"This horrifying situation has been going on for far too long," she said.

Britannia's foreign office said it was supporting Hedges and his family and had been "in close contact with the local authorities", a spokesperson said.

British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt told AFP last week he was "very worried" about Hedges' fate.

"I've spoken to the Emirati foreign minister twice now on this matter face to face so they are very aware of our concerns and we are monitoring it very closely," he said.

The charges against Hedges are based on evidence from investigations carried out by the public prosecution, according to the attorney general.

Graham advises Saudi Arabia to dump bin Salman
[PRESSTV] Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
n Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman
...Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia as of 2016....
is a "wrecking ball" and Riyadh must remove him from power before he further harms the kingdom's image, Senior Republican Senator Lindsey Graham
... the endangered South Carolina RINO, fellow maverick of Honest John McCain...
says.

Graham, a firm supporter of President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
, told Fox News on Tuesday that he would not travel to Saudi Arabia as long as bin Salman is in power.

"This guy has got to go. Saudi Arabia, if you’re listening. There’s a lot of good people you can choose, but MBS has tainted your country and tainted himself," Graham said, abbreviating the crown prince’s name

"I think he’s on a bad track. I can never do business with Saudi Arabia again until we get this behind us," the senator added.

The South Carolina politician made the remarks as he discussed the possible murder of dissident Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in the Ottoman Turkish city of Istanbul.

US intelligence intercepts show that Khashoggi, who was last seen entering the Saudi mission on October 2, was murdered on bin Salman’s direct order.

Ottoman Turkish officials have also obtained recordings that prove he was indeed murder at the hands of Saudi killing squads. There are reports that bin Salman’s personal guard carried out the murder and took Khashoggi’s dismembered body back to Saudi Arabia.

Riyadh, however, has firmly denied any knowledge of the journalist’s fate.

Garaham said he had no doubt that Khashoggi was murdered and bin Salman was aware of this. He also regretted defending Saudi Arabia on the Senate floor now that the "toxic" crown prince had become the putative king.

#6  Settle down, Beavis. This is a story about a Saudi national with Turk citizenship who used his position with a U.S. publication to "opine" (read "screw around with") about the Saudi govt.

The Rocket Scientist then goes to the Saudi embassy in Istanbul and disappears. Funny how that can happen to some people with his history and enemies.

This, "moral" issues aside, is not a U.S. issue. Think of as a "rendition in extremis."

Czech intelligence service shuts down Hezbollah hacking operation
[ZDNet] Hezbollah agents used Facebook profiles for attractive women to trick targets into installing spyware-infected apps.

The Czech Security Intelligence Service (BIS) has intervened and taken down servers that have been used by Hezbollah operatives to target and infect users around the globe with mobile malware.

"I can not comment on the details, but I can confirm that BIS has played a significant role in identifying and uncovering the hackers' system," said Michal Koudelka, BIS Director.

"We identified the victims and traced the attack to its source facilities," Koudelka added. "Hacker servers have been shut down."

BIS said the servers were located in the Czech Republic, and the agency was "almost certain" they were operated by Hezbollah, an Islamist political party and myrmidon group based in Leb, which the US and fellow NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Originally it was a mutual defense pact directed against an expansionist Soviet Union. In later years it evolved into a mechanism for picking the American pocket while criticizing the cut of the American pants...
countries have labeled as a terrorist organization.

The Czech intelligence agency said the servers and the malware distribution campaign appears to have been going on since the start of 2017.

Hezbollah operatives operated by creating Facebook profiles, posing as attractive women, and reaching out to selected targets. The goal of the operation was to engage the target in private discussions and convince it to install a third-party instant messaging application to continue the conversation via this second, malware-infested app.

Targets were advised to download the app from a third-party server. The app was infected with spyware that allowed Hezbollah operatives to retrieve content from the victim's phone.

The servers hosting the malware were located in the Czech Republic, but also other parts of the EU and the US. The campaign's targets were men located in the Middle East, but also Central and Eastern Europe.

Middle Eastern intelligence/terrorist organizations have used this same tactic before. In January 2017, the Israeli Defence Force warned that Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®, (Paleostine) agents were using Facebook profiles posing as women to trick soldiers into installing malware on their devices. In some cases, Hamas agents had also set up meetings with Israeli military personnel and ambushed, kidnapped, and sometimes killed targeted soldiers.

In July, this year, Hamas agents used the same tactic again, hiding malware in dating and World Cup-themed Android apps, according to reports from ClearSky, McAfee, and Check Point.

In June, Facebook and Twitter have removed a large number of Hezbollah-operated accounts from their networks.

Syrian in Germany Hostage Drama Was Psycho
More on this story from yesterday.
[An Nahar] A Syrian man who launched an arson attack and took a woman hostage at a German train station was an unemployed refugee with psychological problems and a history of street offenses, police said Tuesday.

Federal prosecutors who deal with terrorist cases said they planned to take over the investigation against the 55-year-old man, who remained in a coma after emergency surgery for multiple bullet wounds.

The man had sparked major panic around noon on Monday when he stormed a McDonald's restaurant inside Cologne
...the largest city in North Rhine-Westphalia and the fourth populated city in Germany....
's central railway station armed with a petrol container, a replica pistol and gas canisters with metal balls taped to them, police said.

The disheveled-looking man with long grey hair poured the petrol onto the floor and set it alight, injuring a 14-year-old girl with burn wounds and sparking the alarm that led authorities to quickly evacuate the busy station and stop all trains.

As smoke and screams filled the room and the sprinkler system activated, he ran into a nearby pharmacy and took a female employee hostage, sparking an hours-long drama and tense negotiations with police.

Witnesses reported that the man had claimed to be a member of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
jihadist group, and police said they were investigating whether his motive was "terrorism" and whether he acted alone or with others.

When the suspect threatened to set fire to his terrified hostage, heavily armed police commandos hurled two stun grenades into the shop and opened fire, hitting the Syrian man with multiple bullets.

When police later searched his room in a refugee shelter, they found more petrol containers and the Arabic message "God is greatest" written on the wall, but no references to the IS or other hard boy groups.

Investigators confirmed that the man was indeed the holder of a Syrian passport found at the scene, and said he had drawn police attention 13 times since he arrived from the war-torn country in March 2015.

His offenses included marijuana possession, theft, threatening behavior, fraud and disturbing the peace, said Klaus-Stephan Becker, head of Cologne criminal police.

Becker confirmed that "there is evidence" the man had psychological problems and was unable to work.

The man's wife had remained in Syria, from where she had unsuccessfully launched two asylum requests to Germany.

Posturing pointlessly, ‘Palestine’ extra empowered for powerless UN General Assembly bloc presidency
[IsraelTimes] General Assembly votes overwhelmingly to grant additional powers to Ramallah for 12 months of its presidency of 134-nation Group of 77; Israel, US and Australia opposed.

The General Assembly on Tuesday voted by an overwhelming majority to temporarily grant the "State of Paleostine" additional rights and privileges, allowing it to head the biggest bloc of developing countries at the United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
A whopping 146 states voted in favor of Resolution A/73/L.5, while only three countries ‐ the US, Israel and Australia ‐ opposed it. Fifteen countries abstained. US ambassador Nikki Haley
...Trump administration's ambassador to the UN. First woman to serve as Governor of South Carolina, and the second Indian-American governor in the country, after Bobby Jindal of Louisiana. At the age of 39, Haley was the youngest governor in the U.S., a distinction formerly held by Jindal. She is a Republican, which really grates on the Dems...
branded the move "a mistake."

Paleostine’s delegates will be able co-sponsor proposals and amendments, make statements, and raise procedural motions. They will have these extra rights for the duration of its chairmanship of the Group of 77, the largest bloc of developing nations at the UN. The Paleostinians will assume the bloc’s presidency on January 1, 2019, and hold it for one year.

Paleostine ‐ which is not a member state of the UN but has observer state status ‐ was chosen in July to head the so-called G77 plus China, a consortium now consisting of 134 nations that often speaks in one voice at the General Assembly.

Haley said the UN should not have ben able to do so, recalling that the "Paleostinians are not a UN member state or any state at all" and should not be granted privileges reserved for full-fledged members.

"Today’s UN mistake undermines the prospects for peace by encouraging the illusion held by some Paleostinian leaders that they can advance their goals without direct peace negotiations," said Haley in a statement.

After the vote, several European states said their yes votes should not be construed as a recognition of Paleostinian statehood. Rather, it was intended to guarantee Paleostine’s successful chairmanship of the G77, the envoys of Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom said in their respective remarks.

They also welcomed the fact that the extension of Paleostine’s privileges was limited in time.

Senior Egyptian intelligence official arrives in Gaza for talks
[IsraelTimes] A senior Egyptian intelligence official arrived in the Gazoo Strip on Tuesday, the Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw,-linked Paleostinian Information Center reported, two days before Egyptian General Intelligence Services chief Abbas Kamel is slated to visit the coastal enclave.

Ahmed Abdelkhaliq, the head of the Paleostinian file in the Egyptian General Intelligence Services, entered Gazoo through the Erez crossing Tuesday afternoon, where he was greeted by Tawfiq Abu Naim, the head of the Hamas-run security apparatus in the coastal enclave, the Paleostinian Information Center report said.

Reports in other Hamas-affiliated news sites said Abdelkhaliq is expected to hold talks with Hamas leaders about intra-Paleostinian reconciliation.

Egypt has recently made efforts to revive the reconciliation process between Hamas and Fatah, hosting leaders from the two rival parties for separate talks in Cairo in the past month.

In October 2017, Hamas and Fatah signed an Egyptian-brokered deal to advance reconciliation and bring the West Bank and Gazoo under one government, but they failed to implement it.

The reports in the Hamas-linked news sites also said Abdelkhaliq is slated to speak to Hamas leaders about a possible ceasefire between the terror group and Israel.

Egypt, alongside United Nations
...aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society...
special coordinator for the Middle East grinding of the peace processor Nikolay Mladenov, has recently played a key role in attempts to mediate a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.

Abdelkhaliq will also be preparing for the arrival of Kamel in Gazoo on Thursday for meetings with Hamas leaders in the Strip, the Paleostinian Information Center report added, citing a security source.

Kamel has not visited Gazoo since taking over as the head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Services earlier this year.

Later this week, Kamel will also be visiting Israel to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, National Security Adviser Meir Ben-Shabbat, and Shin Bet chief Nadav Argaman, Channel 10 reported last Thursday.

Following his visits to Gazoo and Israel, Kamel will also head to Ramallah to meet with Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
, the New Arab, a London-based news outlet, reported.

Ramallah-based Paleostinian officials have said Fatah-Hamas reconciliation should precede any possible ceasefire. They have also contended that the Paleostine Liberation Organization is the sole party with the legitimacy to negotiate a ceasefire with Israel.

Kurdish leader says Syria gov’t will meet Daesh’s fate if they attack eastern Euphrates
[ALMASDARNEWS] The leader of the Kurdish-led PYD organization Salih Mohammad tweeted on Monday that anyone who targets their forces in Syria will ultimately meet the same fate as ISIS.

Salih Mohammad tweeted in response to Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem’s comments regarding the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) future operations in the eastern part of the Euphrates River Valley.

Muallam said that the Syrian Arab Army will be shifting their attention to the eastern part of the Euphrates River Valley once the situation in the Idlib Governorate is settled.

The Syrian Foreign Minister said that the presence of foreign forces in the eastern part of the Euphrates River Valley is a violation of international law and detrimental to the grinding of the peace processor.

While the Syrian Arab Army and US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) do not actively target one another, there have been tensions in the Deir Ezzor Governorate in the past.

In a recent meeting between the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Council and government, the latter demanded that all U.S. and French forces withdraw from the SDF’s areas.

This demand from the Syrian government was met with several objections from the SDC because they rely on the US for military support and protection from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

Turkey vows to launch military operation in Manbij if US does not remove YPG from city
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
said on Tuesday.

According to the Ottoman Turkish President, the U.S. has not fulfilled its obligations from the June agreement.

"We cannot say a 90-day timeline on [the YPG withdrawal from] Manbij has been implemented. It has not. We know what we will do if it is not implemented. If necessary steps are not taken in the eastern Euphrates and if the process is delayed, we will take all the necessary steps at the highest level against the YPG/PYD, more precisely against the PKK," Erdogan stated, as quoted by the Hurriyet Daily.

While Turkey has not increased their military presence in Manbij, this could ultimately change if the U.S. fails to remove the remaining YPG fighters from the city.

Currently, the YPG has a large presence inside and outside of Manbij; they also maintain close ties with the Manbij Military Council, who they fought next to during their fight against the Islamic State

Iran Says It Has Carried Out 700 Drone Attacks in Syria
[An Nahar] Iran's Revolutionary Guards have carried out 700 dronezaps against forces of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group (IS) in Syria, its aerospace chief told conservative news agency Fars on Tuesday.

"Our bomber drones have carried out 700 military operations using smart bombs against ISIS," said Brigadier General Amirali Hajizadeh, using the Arabic acronym for IS.

"They were used in eliminating tanks, personnel carriers, cars used for suicide kabooms and 23- millimetre cannons -- these were targets prized by ISIS and we significantly turned the tide of battle," he added.

The guards most recently used military drones against IS targets in Syria on October 1, in retaliation for a deadly attack in September on a military parade in Iran's southwest claimed by the holy warrior group.

Seven military drones as well as six ballistic missiles struck the "IS headquarters" in the eastern Syrian town of Hajin, about 24 kilometres (15 miles) north of Albu Kamal bordering Iraq, state TV reported.

Iranian media said published images indicated the drones were locally-produced "Saegheh" craft, reverse-engineered from a US RQ-170 Sentinel captured by Iran in 2011.

Iran's armed forces chief of staff, Major General Mohammad Bagheri, said at the time that the strikes were the first time the drones had "crossed multiple countries and reached their targets."

It was also the first time Iran had officially announced it was using combat drones outside of its borders, the conservative Tasnim news agency said.

US imposes new sanctions targeting Iran banks, companies
[PRESSTV] The United States has imposed fresh sanctions on a number of Iranian banks and financial institutions as well as companies ahead of the start of the next month's new round of the US sanctions against the Islamic Theocratic Republic.

The US Treasury on Tuesday announced fresh sanctions on Iranian banks, including Bank Mellat and Mehr Eqtesad Bank.

According to an announcement on Treasury's website, the US is also imposing sanctions on Iran Tractor Manufacturing Company, Esfehan’s Mobarakeh Steel Company, and other companies linked to investment, commodities and engineering.

The Treasury imposed sanctions on a multibillion-dollar financial network that supports the Basij Resistance Force affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
announced in May that Washington was pulling out of the nuclear agreement, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which lifted nuclear-related sanctions against Tehran in exchange for restrictions on Tehran's nuclear program.

The deal had been signed between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council -- the United States, Britannia, La Belle France, Russia and China -- plus Germany in 2015.

The US administration reintroduced the previous sanctions while imposing new ones on the Islamic Theocratic Republic. It also introduced punitive measures ‐ known as secondary sanctions ‐ against third countries doing business with Iran.
The Times of Israel adds:
The Treasury Department on Tuesday targeted a network of banks and businesses that provides financial support to a paramilitary force in Iran, which allegedly trains and deploys child soldiers to fight with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The sanctions are part of the US economic campaign to pressure Iran to radically alter its policies, including developing ballistic missiles, supporting regional hard boy groups, and violating human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
The Treasury Department said the Bonyad Taavon Basij network is an example of how the IRGC and Iranian military forces have expanded economic involvement in major industries and infiltrated seemingly legitimate businesses to fund terrorism and other malign activities.
