Islamist Gunmen Kill Two Soldiers in Western Algeria
[AnNahar] Islamist gunnies have killed two soldiers in western Algeria less than a week after jihadist-linked snuffies beheaded a French hostage they kidnapped east of the capital, press reports said Monday.

The two soldiers were ambushed on Sunday as they inspected a power plant in the town of Telagh, 150 kilometers (95 miles) south of Algeria's second city Oran, the reports said.

Islamist holy warriors, some of them loyal to Al-Qaeda, remain active in several areas of Algeria more than a decade after the end of the country's devastating 1992-2002 civil war.

On Wednesday, a jihadist splinter group sparked world outrage by executing French hostage Herve Gourdel in retaliation for French air strikes on the Islamic State

group in Iraq in video footage it posted online.

Gourdel was kidnapped while hiking in the Djurdjura National Park, east of Algiers, once a major tourist attraction but a hideout for Islamist snuffies since the 1990s.

The army says it has killed at least 71 suspected snuffies in operations so far this year.

Sanaa: suicide bomb attack leaves 15 dead and over 50 injured
h/t Gates of Vienna
Sanaa (AsiaNews / Agencies) - the death toll from a suicide bombing that took place yesterday in the town of Majzar, in the province of Maarib, east of Sanaa, capital of Yemen has risen to 15. A suicide bomber linked to al Qaeda, on board a car packed with explosives, hit a hospital used as a logistics and operational base by the rebel Shiite Houthi movement, which have laid siege to the capital in recent weeks and obtained the formation of a new government.

9 Bahrainis Jailed for Life, Stripped of Nationality
[AnNahar] Nine Bahraini Shiites have been tossed in the calaboose
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
for life and stripped of their nationality for smuggling arms to be used in "terrorist acts", the Gulf kingdom's prosecutor general announced on Monday.

A Manama court also found all nine guilty of having contacted an agent of an unnamed foreign country "to carry out acts hostile to Bahrain", he said in a statement.

The case dates back to February 2013 when authorities in the Sunni-ruled country announced they had dismantled a "terrorist cell" with links to Shiite Iran.

Members of the group spied for Tehran and its elite Revolutionary Guards, the interior ministry said at the time, and had set up an armed organization called Jaish al-Imam, or the army of the imam.

Dozens of Bahraini Shiites have been given lengthy prison terms after being convicted of involvement in protests which have shaken the country since February 2011.

The tiny but strategic kingdom, just across the Gulf from Iran and home base for the U.S. Fifth Fleet, remains deeply divided three years after authorities crushed the uprising.

Protests in Shiite villages around the capital still spark festivities with police.

Qaida Attacks Shiite Rebels in Yemen
[AnNahar] An al-Qaeda group in Yemen has launched three attacks against Iranian catspaws, vowing a tough fight against the gunnies who overran the capital last week, officials and witnesses said Monday.

Gunmen from Ansar al-Sharia
...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libyaand Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. It still uses the old name now and then, probably because the stationery's not all used up and the web site hasn't expired yet...
opened fire on Sunday night at a vehicle in the central Baida province, killing all six rebels on board, witnesses said.

In Sanaa, two rebels were maimed when an bomb went off, also on Sunday night, near a checkpoint, a security official said, accusing al-Qaeda of being behind the attack.

The attacks followed a suicide kaboom earlier in the day that targeted a small hospital used by Houthis in Majzar, 80 kilometres east of Sanaa, tribal sources said.

Ansar al-Sharia, a group linked to al-Qaeda, said on Twitter that it carried out the attack which had caused "dozens" of casualties.

The rebels swept down from their stronghold in the rugged northwestern mountains last month, demanding economic and political reforms.

On September 21, they seized key state installations without resistance, most of them in northern Sanaa, after festivities on the city's outskirts with Islamists killed more than 270 people.

Al-Qaeda vowed on Wednesday to fight the rebels in defense of Sunni Moslems, three days after the gunnies overran Sanaa.

"We have unsheathed our sharp swords to defend you," Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula said in a statement, warning the Iranian catspaws of the "unbearable."

"Your heads will fly off," the statement threatened the rebels, charging that the Huthis' takeover of Sanaa was the "outcome of a Persian plot in Yemen."

Sanaa has repeatedly accused Shiite Iran of backing the rebels.

Bangladesh Arrests Briton over 'IS Jihad Recruitment'
[AnNahar] Bangladesh police said Monday they have tossed in the slammer
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
a British citizen suspected of entering the country to recruit gunnies for jihadist groups overseas such as the Islamic State

organization.

Officers said Samiun Rahman, a 24-year-old Londoner of Bangladeshi origin, was picked up from a railway station in the capital around midnight on Sunday.

"During primary interrogation, he told police he was staying in Bangladesh to recruit jihadists for the IS and Nusra brigade (an affiliate of Al-Qaeda)," Dhaka metropolitan police said in a statement.

"He took part in fighting in Syria from September to December last year as a member of Nusra brigade," Dhaka police front man Masudur Rahman told AFP, adding that Rahman had traveled to Syria with a friend from Britannia.

He said Rahman, alias Ibn Hamdan, planned to send Bangladeshi gunnies to Syria and also wanted to set up an Al-Qaeda network inside Bangladesh and neighboring Myanmar.

Al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri
... Formerly second in command of al-Qaeda, now the head cheese, occasionally described as the real brains of the outfit. Formerly the Mister Big of Egyptian Islamic Jihad. Currently residing in the North Wazoo area. That is not a horn growing from the middle of his forehead, but a prayer bump, attesting to how devout he is...
announced plans earlier this month to launch a South Asian branch of the hard boy network.

Just last week, two other suspected gunnies were arrested for allegedly attempting to set up an Al-Qaeda network in Bangladesh.

Asif Adnan, 24, and Fazle Elahi Tanzil, 26, were members of the local Ansarullah Bangla Team, blamed for the murder last year of a blogger who was critical of Islam.

Several banned Islamist hard boy groups operate in Bangladesh and have been blamed for a series of deadly attacks since the late 1990s. But none of them have been linked to Al-Qaeda.

Rahman, dressed in a long robe, was paraded before the media at a police press briefing.

Police said he was born in London.

"He came here as he thought it was possible to send people from Bangladesh (to Syria)," said Dhaka police joint commissioner Monirul Islam.

More Terror Raids Down Under
[news.com.au] VICTORIA Police and Australian Federal Police officers are raiding a property in Melbourne’s suburbs.

One person has been taken into custody during the raids which AFP has confirmed are terror-related.

“The Australian Federal Police and Victoria Police Joint Counter Terrorism Team can confirm that a number of search warrants are being conducted as part of an operation in the following suburbs: Seabrook, Kealba, Meadow Heights, Broadmeadows and Flemington,” a statement to news.com.au read.

The raids follow the biggest ever counter-terror operation in Australia earlier this month involving joint operations between the AFP and NSW police.

A spokeswoman for AFP said the raids were not related to the incident involving a terror suspect shot dead in Melbourne last week.

“This operational activity is not in response to a threat to public safety nor is it related to last week’s incident at Endeavour Hills,” a statement read.

Europe
Belgium Tries Suspected Syria Jihadist Group
[AnNahar] Forty six people, most of them still on the lam, went on trial in Belgium on Monday for suspected membership of a group believed to be sending jihadist fighters to Syria.

Armed police guarded the court in the northern port city of Antwerp where 16 people alleged to be part of Sharia4Belgium, including its head Fouad Belkacem, are being tried on charges of leading a terrorist organization.

If convicted, they could face 20 years in prison.

The remaining 30 are being tried on charges of belonging to Sharia4Belgium.
I wonder how many will turn out to be connected to other terror organizations as well...like ISIS and al Nusra.
Present for the trial were Belkacem, a Salafist ideologue known for his sermons in the streets and on the Internet, and seven others.

The defendants who are on the lam are believed to be in Syria where some of them may have been killed, according to the federal justice office.

Investigators said Belkacem never traveled to Syria, unlike most of the members of the group, but he was the "catalyst" who prompted many to go and fight there.

Sharia4Belgium, based in Antwerp, campaigned for the introduction of Sharia Islamic law in Belgium.

In 2012, it said it was disbanding but the authorities suspect that it has continued to recruit dozens of volunteers to fight in Syria.

Officials say that up to 400 Belgian nationals may have gone to fight in Syria, with about a quarter having returned home.

The trial comes five months after a deadly attack on the Jewish museum in the center of Brussels raised fears of a resurgence of anti-Semitic violence in Europe and of terror strikes from imported muscle returning from Syria.

The main suspect in the attack which left four people dead is a Frenchie, Mehdi Nemmouche, who spent more than a year fighting with Islamist Death Eaters in Syria and is now also being held in Belgium on charges of "murder in a terrorist context".

Turkey Deploys Tanks to Border as Lawmakers to Consider Anti-IS Action
[AnNahar] Turkey on Monday deployed tanks and armored vehicles to reinforce its border with Syria amid escalating Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. violence, as parliament is set to consider whether to authorize military action against IS jihadists.

The army moved tanks and armored vehicles to the border town of Mursitpinar which lies across from the key Kurdish town of Ain al-Arab after some stray bullets hit Turkish villages, sparking retaliation from Turkey's military under its "rules of engagement."

The government said Monday it would shortly submit motions to parliament authorizing the armed forces to take action in Iraq and Syria, so Ankara can join the U.S.-led coalition against the IS fighters.

"The motions have not yet been sent to parliament. They may come tomorrow," parliamentary speaker Cemil Cicek was quoted as saying by NTV television.

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has said the motions will be debated on Thursday.

Turkey had refused to join a broad anti-IS coalition led by the United States while dozens of its citizens including diplomats and children were being held by IS turbans having been kidnapped from the Turkish consulate in the northern Iraqi city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
After securing their freedom in a top-secret operation which reportedly resulted in the release of 50 IS fighters, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
said the country's position had changed, signalling a more robust stance towards the IS group.

"We will hold discussions with our relevant institutions this week. We will definitely be where we need to be," Erdogan said on Sunday.

"We cannot stay out of this."

The government hopes parliament will approve the military action before the Moslem Eid holiday which begins on Saturday.

On Monday, Erdogan said the Islamic State -- blacklisted as a terrorist organization by Ankara since October 2013 -- has nothing to do with Islam, which he said "does not legitimize such savagery or violence."

"Attributing terrorist actions in the Middle East to Islam means nothing other than distorting the truth," he said in a speech in Istanbul. "Our religion is a religion of peace."

In a rare move, Turkey's top general, Necdet Ozel, will speak to the cabinet on Tuesday followed by a security summit chaired by Erdogan.

Turkey has so far accepted over 160,000 Syrian refugees who fled the IS assault near the town of Ain al-Arab, and has called for creating a safe buffer zone to help civilians inside Syria.

Turkey has already taken in more than 1.5 million refugees who fled the regime of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Scourge of Qusayr...
On Monday, at least three mortar shells fired from Syria landed in Turkish soil -- up to two kilometers (1.2 miles) from the border gate at Mursitpinar, an AFP photographer reported. They caused no damage or casualties.

But a mortar shell that hit a house in a Turkish village on the Syrian border late Sunday left three people maimed, the military said on its website, adding that the armed forces had responded in kind.
The Times of Israel adds:
Some 15 tanks took up positions on a hill near a military base opposite the besieged town of Kobani that IS has been trying to capture from outgunned Syrian-Kurdish forces for over a week, Rooters reported.

India Police Arrest over 200 for Religious Violence in Gujarat
[AnNahar] Indian police in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state of Gujarat
...where rioting seems to be a traditional passtime...
have locked away
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
more than 200 people after violence between majority Hindus and minority Moslems, a senior officer said Monday.

The festivities in the western city of Vadodara were sparked by a distorted image posted on social media that offended Moslems, prompting authorities to block mobile Internet and bulk text messaging, the officer said.

The violence coincides with Modi's visit to the United States where he is expected to meet President Barack Obama
I am the change that you seek...
during a trip to push for foreign investment to promote economic growth.

Members of the two communities threw stones at each other and set vehicles alight in several days of festivities that started on Thursday, while one person was stabbed.

"We have now arrested over 200 people from both the communities in the last three days," said D.J Patel, additional commissioner of Vadodara police. Police said Sunday 40 arrests were made.

"The man, a teacher, who posted the controversial message on WhatsApp has also been arrested," Patel told AFP.

Patel declined to describe the offending message and image but local newspapers have reported that a distorted photo of the Moslem holy land of Mecca was circulated on social media.

Modi contested and won Vadodara when his Hindu nationalist party swept to power at the general election in May, although he gave up the seat after the polls for another that he also secured.

Gujarat was hit by religious riots in 2002 that left more than 1,000 people, mostly Moslems, dead. Modi, the state's chief minister at the time, has rejected criticism he failed to stop the bloodshed. He was cleared by a Supreme Court-ordered probe of wrongdoing.

The US had shunned Modi for years over the riots, a move that was dropped when it became clear he would win power nationally.

Patel said some of the 200 people were detained for taking part in the low-level violence, while others were arrested to prevent further unrest.

He said the city was back to normal on Monday with markets open. Another senior police officer said mobile Internet services would remain suspended as a precaution until Tuesday.

One person was stabbed in the unrest, the Press Trust of India news agency has reported, but all of the handful of injuries have been minor.

According to reports, the soldiers captured two dozen vehicles from the ISIL.

#1  The terrorist group has links with Saudi intelligence and is believed to be indirectly supported by the Israeli regime.

This line seems to be in every story about ISIL coming out of Iran. Meanwhile Iran continues to buy more time to build their nukes.

#1  Nice article. Sad we have to turn to the Brit media for good coverage.

As for "Obama added that breaking up the terrorist cell will be a complicated battle involving both military and political action.", I'd say we're somewhat beyond the "terrorist cell" phase when we are talking about large swaths of two countries.

How much of this can be blamed on FDR's internment of the Japanese for WWII? The distaste for that policy seems to have tipped us over the top of the mountain and we've been rolling down the hill of PC fear ever since to the point where we can't call Islam a fascist system bent on world conquest.

#5  The US and other countries are wary of robust airstrikes because it will result in civilian casualties. This wariness is in turn due to years and years of obsessing on this and to the idiotic comments of the WH and State dept during the 50 day Protective shield op.

There were lots of arrows in the quiver of the PC dictator wannabes including anything having to do with Vietnam, Jim Crow, the Trail of Tears, Japanese internment, etc. I just picked on the one that seemed to me to be appropos but there're are plenty to go around.

Kurds go it alone without US airstrikes
Kurdish militias in northern Syria continued to clash with Islamic State militants on Monday as coalition forces capped off their first week of airstrikes with fresh attacks on militant positions in Syria and Iraq.

U.S. jets and drones, along with Arab-allied planes, hit a staging area near a Syrian grain storage site, officials said Monday, one of 11 targets hit as part of the effort to rollback Islamic State battlefield victories.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported civilian casualties in the attack on the grain silo near the town of Manbij. Coalition forces appeared to also hit Islamic State targets in Aleppo, Raqqa, Hassakeh and Deir el-Zour provinces, the group said.

He is focused on global warming, trying to insure that no one ever gets profiled, and being racial (and IMO it seems Muslim). I guess he must think Mormans, Methodists and 80-year old ladies might be a threat. He attended 42% of the intelligence briefings in the last year--about par for the course before this year also. It is no surprise he gets blindsided by terrorism movements. He is a pathetic failure as a president. He has surrounded himself with people of the same ilk. South of Carter yet?

Israeli Forces Raid Palestinian Homes, Arrest 10
[IranPressTV] Israeli forces have carried out fresh raids on homes in the occupied West Bank, abducting arresting at least 10 Paleostinians there.

They stormed a number of Paleostinian homes in the cities of Bethlehem, Husan and al-Khalil (Hebron) in the early hours of Sunday.

Local residents say the Paleostinians were taken to an unknown location.
No doubt the local police or Shin Bet processing center, but whatevs.
Israeli forces have been carrying out similar raids in the occupied territories on an almost daily basis. The raids have intensified since the deadly war on the Gazoo Strip in July.
Gee, I wonder why! Wait, no I don't.
Rights organization Paleostine Prisoners' Club says 560 people have been detained so far this month, as the regime holds more than 7,000 Paleostinians in its prisons.

According to another Paleostinian human rights
When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much...
organization, Israel is also holding 540 Paleostinians without trial. The Ahrar Center for Prisoners Studies said on September 26 that the number of Paleostinians in Israeli administrative detention is the highest since 2008. According to the group, Israeli authorities have extended the detention of 70 prisoners in the past three weeks and transferred dozens more to administrative detention.

It said Israel has used the administrative detention policy for scores of Paleostinians locked away

since June, following the disappearance and death of three Israeli settlers in the West Bank.

Administrative detention is a sort of imprisonment without trial or charge that allows Israel to incarcerate Paleostinians for up to six months. The detention order can be renewed for indefinite periods of time.

Human rights groups often criticize Israeli prison authorities for rampant rights abuses in jails and reports of mysterious deaths of inmates in jug.

Medics: Israeli Fire Wounds Gaza Teenager
[AnNahar] Israeli troops shot and maimed a 14-year-old boy in the northern Gazoo Strip on Monday in the second such incident in 24 hours, medics said.

The boy suffered injuries to his foot after coming under fire in his village close to the border, emergency services front man Ashraf al-Qudra said in a statement.

On Sunday, Israeli fire maimed a farmer near the border fence, Qudra added.

Under Israel's blockade of the coastal territory, residents of Gazoo are not allowed to come within 100 meters (yards) of the border fence on foot, or 300 meters in a vehicle.

Israeli soldiers often fire at Paleostinians who stray closer.
The answer, of course, is not to poke the tiger with a sharp stick when the cage door is not locked, but boys will be boys. And then boys will complain because they got shot in the feet, just like the Koran requires.
The Israeli army said that it was looking into the latest reported shooting which comes just over a month after a fragile ceasefire went into force between Israel and Gazoo's Islamist de facto rulers Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,.

The 50-day war killed more than 2,140 Paleostinians, most of them civilians, and 73 on the Israeli side, mostly soldiers before the ceasefire went into effect on August 26.

Teacher Arrested For Bringing ISIS Material From Jordan
[Ynet] Police tossed in the slammer

a 24-year-old teacher from Umm al-Fahm on Monday, who is suspected of affiliation with a terror group or an illegal association. An ISIS flag, computers, and jihadi literature was found in the suspect's home.

During his interrogation the suspect admitted that he brought the material from Jordan. A Hadera court extended his detention through Wednesday.

Last week, another resident of Umm al-Fahm was arrested. Ahmed Shurbaji, a 23 year old, was convicted of illegally entering Syria and partaking in banned military training, including with the bully boy group ISIS.

The defense said that the court had no jurisdiction on the matter, claiming it was selectively enforcing the law.

    However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
the court accepted the position of the prosecutor, ruling that "leaving to take part in military training in any rival nation, in general, and in Syria, in particular, under the authority of ISIS specifically, presents a security offense which carries great danger to the defense of Israel."

    Syria-Lebanon-Iran
    Obama Betrays the Kurds
    H/t Instapundit
...As these lines are being written, some 400,000 Kurds in and around the town of Kobane in northern Syria, on the Turkish border, are being besieged and assaulted by massed legions of Islamic State killers armed with scores of tanks, armored personnel carriers, and heavy artillery.

Against these, the Kurdish defenders have only AK-47s and rocket-propelled grenades. The Kurds have called on the U.S. to send in air strikes to take out the jihadist forces. In response, the administration sent in two fighter jets Saturday, which destroyed two Islamic State tanks and then flew away. The Kurds are begging for arms. The administration has not only refused to send arms, but is exerting pressure both on our NATO allies and on Israel not to send any either. Over 150,000 Kurds have fled their homes to try to escape to Turkey, but they are being blocked at the border by Turkish troops. Meanwhile, Turkey is allowing Islamist reinforcements to enter Syria to join the Islamic State, while Islamist elements of the Free Syrian Army, funded and armed by the United States, have joined forces with the group in the genocidal assault on the Kurdish enclave.
Every POTUS should betray the Kurds at least once---this is practically in the job description

IS Jihadists Within 5 km of Key Syria Border Town

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
jihadists advanced Monday to within five kilometers (three miles) of the key Kurdish town of Ain al-Arab on Syria's border with Turkey, a monitor said.

"They are five kilometers to the south and southeast of Kobane," said Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, using the Kurdish name for Ain al-Arab.

"It is the closest distance IS has come so far," he added.

As they advanced, the jihadists fired a volley of at least 15 rockets, hitting the center of Ain al-Arab for the first time and killing at least one person, Abdel Rahman said.

"It's the most violent bombardment of the town," he said.

Additional rockets also slammed into the Syrian-Turkish border area, he added, an account confirmed by an AFP photographer on the Turkish side of the frontier.

The photographer said at least one mortar shell had landed on Turkish territory near the Mursitpinar border post, a day after fire from Syrian territory hit the Turkish border town of Suruc, injuring three.

IS murderous Moslems launched a bid to capture Ain al-Arab nearly two weeks ago, and have since captured 67 villages surrounding the town.

The fighting has prompted at least 160,000 people to flee across the border into Turkey, and the group's advances have continued despite several strikes by a US-led coalition around the town.

Ain al-Arab is Syria's third-largest Kurdish town and would be a key prize for IS, allowing its fighters to complete their control over a long stretch of the Syrian border with Turkey.

Syrian Observatory: U.S.-led Strikes on IS Hit Entrance to Main Gas Plant
[AnNahar] The U.S.-led coalition against jihadists in Syria struck late Sunday the entrance to the country's main gas plant, in an apparent warning to Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) bully boyz to abandon the premises under their control, a monitor said.

"The international coalition has for the first time struck the entrance and prayer area of the Coneco gas plant. It is under IS control, and is the largest in Syria," said Syrian Observatory for Human Rights director Rami Abdel Rahman.

The United States and a group of mainly Gulf Arab allies launched strikes against jihadist positions in Syria on Tuesday, a month and a half after strikes against IS jihadists began in neighboring Iraq.

Strikes also hit IS targets both in its Raqa province stronghold and in Aleppo province further west.

The coalition strikes hit jihadist targets outside Raqa city, the de facto headquarters of IS in Syria, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

They also hit targets around the town of Minbej, east of second city Aleppo, that reportedly included IS-controlled grain silos, it said.

The coalition already hit IS targets around Minbej on Saturday.

Up until Sunday, the strikes had targeted mainly jihadist bases and makeshift oil refineries used by the murderous Moslems, in a bid to weaken one of their main sources of financing.

The strike against the Coneco gas plant's entrance and prayer area "did not kill any jihadists, though it did injure some of them", Abdel Rahman told Agence La Belle France Presse.

"It appears as though the international coalition is trying to force the jihadists to leave the plant," he said.

The Coneco gas plant is located in eastern Syria's Deir Ezzor province, which is the country's richest in oil and is located on the Iraq border.

The strike could have significant consequences not only for the jihadists, but also for areas under Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Oppressor of the Syrians and the Lebs...
    's control.

"The Coneco gas plant feeds the Jandar power station located in (regime-held) Homs province," said Abdel Rahman.

"If the Coneco plant stops functioning completely, several regime-held areas, as well as IS-controlled Deir Ezzor province will be left without electricity," he warned.

Before the IS bully boyz took over Deir Ezzor province earlier this year, jihadists from the rival Al-Nusra Front and local tribes had an agreement with Assad's regime to keep the Coneco gas plant up and running.

In exchange for gas, the regime allowed electricity for Deir Ezzor province.

"That agreement was maintained when the IS took over," said Abdel Rahman.

Army Repels Jihadist Infiltration Attempt as Gunmen Try to Spread Chaos in Lebanon
[AnNahar] The Lebanese army clashed with jihadists trying to infiltrate Lebanese territories at dawn Monday, leaving many dead and injured among their ranks, Voice of Leb radio (93.3) reported.

The infiltration attempt was made on the outskirts of the northeastern border town of Arsal, which last month witnessed bloody festivities between the army and holy warriors from al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra

    group.

The jihadists took with them hostages from the military and police, and killed three of them.

The military has so far stopped several infiltration attempts after it blocked dirt roads near Arsal to stop the Lion of Islams, who are taking refuge in the town's outskirts and on the porous Lebanese-Syrian border, from receiving supplies.

VDL also reported that Lion of Islams, taking the Syrian border towns of Serghaya and Asal Alward as their base, are trying to smuggle arms to Leb.

The gunnies are led by a Paleostinian identified as Hatem al-Hassan, the radio station said, adding that his deputy is Ahmed al-Rifai, a Syrian.

The gangs are taking the weapons and ammunition to caves in the town of Maaraboun, which similar to Arsal lies in Baalbek district, to hand them over to Lebanese fighters, VDL stated.

Their intention is to spread chaos in Leb, it added.
How would anyone tell the difference?

Operator of Fake Terrorist Group Account Faces Trial at Military Court
[AnNahar] First Military Examining Magistrate Judge Riyad Abu Ghida issued on Monday an indictment against the operator of the Free Sunnis of Baalbek Brigade's twitter account.

The judge also called for Hussein al-Hussein to be tried at the military court.

Al-Hussein was charged last month with operating the "fake" account for the purpose of creating sedition.

The 19-year-old has been accused of threatening the residents of Baalbek, politicians and security figures and the Lebanese army, in addition to claiming suicide kabooms and the launching of rockets on Baalbek and Hermel.

He has also been held responsible for inciting sedition among nationals in an attempt to create hatred and hostility and provoking rift between sects.

AP INTERVIEW: Syria 'OK' with US airstrikes
UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Syria's foreign minister said Monday that his government is satisfied with the U.S.-led bombing campaign against the Islamic State group, adding that the airstrikes should be expanded to include all other militant groups in Syria.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Walid al-Moallem said the fight against terrorism has aligned Damascus with Western and Arab opponents in fighting the same enemy.

Al-Moallem said the U.S. does not inform Syria of every strike before it happens, "but it's OK."

"We are fighting ISIS, they are fighting ISIS," he said, referring to the group by one of its acronyms.

He spoke as U.S.-led coalition airstrikes targeted towns in northern and eastern Syria controlled by the Islamic State group, including one strike that Syrian activists said hit a grain silo and reportedly killed civilians.

Washington and Arab allies opened their air assault against the extremist group last week in Syria, going after the group's military facilities, training camps, heavy weapons and oil installations. The campaign expands upon the airstrikes the United States has been conducting against the militants in Iraq since early August.

Some of the initial strikes targeted the Nusra Front, al-Qaida's Syria affiliate, hitting several of its facilities and killing dozens of its fighters. Washington said it was trying to take out an al-Qaida cell known as the Khorasan Group that was actively plotting attacks against Americans and Western interests.

The U.S.-led coalition includes Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Jordan.

Al-Moallem said he considered the Islamic State group, the Nusra Front and all Islamist groups fighting in Syria to be essentially on the same side and should all be hit.

"Without doubt, because they have the same ideology. They have the same extremist ideology," he said.

Asked whether the strikes should include the loose umbrella rebel group known as the Free Syrian Army, a Western-backed group, he said the group "does not exist" anymore.

Al-Moallem said Syria heard from the United States 24 hours before it launched its initial airstrikes last week.

"Until today, we are satisfied. As long as they are aiming at ISIS locations in Syria and in Iraq, we are satisfied," he said.
