Taliban Attack Kill Two ANA Soldiers in Herat
[Tolo News] The Taliban killed two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and took 13 others in an attack on a military outpost in Western Heart province on Sunday night, local officials said on Monday.

According to Najeebullah Najeebi, the front man for Zafar Military Corps 207, the incident took place last night in Kishk-e-Rabat Sangi district of the province. There are some reports claiming that the soldiers joined the forces of Evil by their own will.

"A delegation has been sent to the area to investigate the matter," Najeebi added. "We will find out whether the soldiers were taken captive or if they left themselves."

Kishk-e-Rabat Sangi is one of the most insecure districts in Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...

Africa North
Officials: French Citizen Kidnapped In Algeria
[Ynet] A French citizen was kidnapped by suspected Islamic snuffies while hiking in a mountainous Algerian region that is a known hideout for North Africa's al-Qaeda branch, officials said.

The kidnapping comes after the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
Death Eater group issued a call for attacks on Westerners, particularly French citizens.
On the other hand, kidnapping foreigners for ransom is a local tradition going back to the eighteenth century, if not considerably earlier, so IS's call likely has nothing to do with it.

Algerian Army Says Top Al-Qaeda Militant Killed
[Ynet] Algeria's Defense Ministry says army forces have ambushed and killed a top bad boy with links to Al-Qaeda.

The ministry said Monday army forces relied on local information to ambush a "leading terrorist responsible for many crimes" in a late night operation on Sunday. The bad boy, from the group Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, was killed in the mountainous Kabylie region, some 50 miles from the capital, Algiers.
Can't say who he is, but he's really "top."
Algeria has been fighting the group since the 1990s, though they are now isolated in a few mountainous regions.

Ansar gunman killed by crowd in Benghazi
[Libya Herald] A gunman who shot an army colonel in Benghazi's Majuri district yesterday was himself shot and killed by an angry crowd after he tried to take cover in a local pharmacy. Omar Al Sangari, said to be a member of Ansar al-Sharia
...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libyaand Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. It still uses the old name now and then, probably because the stationery's not all used up and the web site hasn't expired yet...
, died in hail of gunfire when he left the pharmacy where he had taken cover, thinking that he was safe, local eyewitnesses told the Libya Herald. Earlier, Ansar members had tried to rescue him but fled when they were shot at by locals.

The saga, which took place early yesterday afternoon, is the first to directly link Ansar to Benghazi's liquidations. It started when Sangari, who is alleged to have been a local drugs dealer turned hired killer for Ansar, attempted to murder an army colonel who was shot a number of times. He still alive in hospital.

Africa Subsaharan
Boko Haram: Abubakar Shekau Impersonator Killed?
[CHANNELSTV] There seems to be a high possibility that leader of the Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
sect, Abubakar Shekau, has been killed.

A source at the Defence Headquarters, on Sunday, revealed that Shekau is among the murderous Moslems killed by the troops in Konduga, Borno.

In the last few days, there have been several attempts by turbans to gain entry into Konduga, which the Nigerian troops, have continued to foil.

The intention of that desperate attempt, was for the turbans to recover the bodies of their prominent fighters, such as Abubakar Shekau and others, who had been killed in previous encounters in Konduga.

In the meantime, the Nigerian troops have begun mopping up operations in the area.

Many members of the Boko Haram are said to be fleeing into Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
for safety.

According to a military source, "it is getting more certain that the terrorist's commander, who has been mimicking Shekau in previous videos, is the one killed at Konduga, on September 17th, as massive relocation of turbans to seek safe haven in independent locations in Cameroon has been noticed."

Who is Abubakar Shekau?
On the off chance you care now that he's dead...
Shekau became Boko Haram leader in 2009, after the previous leader, Mohammed Yusuf, was killed. Shekau is the most wanted man in Nigeria. The US has offered a reward of £7m for information about his whereabouts.

The leader is nicknamed "Darul Tawheed", which translates as a specialist in Tawheed, an orthodox doctrine centring on the uniqueness of Allah. But Nigeria's mainstream Muslim clerics do not regard him as a scholar and question his understanding of Islam.

Shekau does not communicate directly with Boko Haram's foot soldiers and is said to wield his power through a few select cell leaders. Even then contact is minimal.

Last year, the Nigerian government said troops had killed Shekau. However, the leader subsequently appeared in a video he made to prove he was still alive.

Boko Haram Fighters Surrender as Rumours Spread of Leader's Death
Members of terror group Boko Haram are surrendering to Nigerian soldiers after rumours spread that their leader, Abubakar Shekau, was killed.

According to an anonymous source, Shekau was killed during clashes in Kodunga, Borno State, after days of fighting in which at least 60 insurgents were also killed and another senior leader was captured. Local media also reported that the rebels surrendered to Nigerian troops in Kodunga.
Even if this isn't true I'd be reporting it as such, just to see how many Boko hard-boyz would give up...
The Defence Headquarters, (DHQ), tweeted on Sunday that five Boko Haram members surrendered their weapons to soldiers and pleaded for mercy.

"Other captured terrorists have also been giving useful information on the subsequent plans of the group in an apparent offer to cooperate," DHQ also wrote.

The Nigerian government is still investigating allegations of Shekau's death. However, according to some reports it was Shekau's impersonator, rather than the leader himself, who was killed by the troops.
Nah, the impersonator is the one who is alive and supposedly giving orders. Look for the mole on the inside of his skin, just under the heart. You might have to dig a little...
Senior military sources told media agency PRNigeria: "It is getting more certain that the terrorists' commander who has been mimicking Shekau in those videos is the one killed in Konduga on 17 September 2014.

"The process of confirming that the dead body we have is the same as that character who has been posing as Shekau is ongoing. He is definitely a prominent terrorist' commander," the source said.
So he might have been a number 3 and not a number 1...

Boko Bad Boy whacked
48 hour rule unless we see a severed head.
Cameroon's army has reportedly killed the leader of the Nigerian Islamist sect Boko Haram Abubakar Shekau after fierce fighting in the border region of Gambaru in the far north of the country on Saturday night.Although the information has not been made official, several army officers reached by telephone have described scenes of jubilation by their troops on the scene of the clashes as they hinted at the imminent end of the jihadist movement.

"Last night fighting was exceedingly violent. It even happened that our troops had to fight beyond our borders" an anonymous senior officer said.

Officials from the American Embassy in Cameroon, who have been informed of Shekau's apparent demise, have urged caution and asked for the DNA of the dead person purported to be the Boko Haram leader, according to internal sources.

Hours earlier, a statement from the Cameroonian government indicated that the army had killed a dozen Boko Haram assailants attempting a raid in the town of Amchidée in the far north along the Nigerian border.

It had also reported "heavy fighting in which the national defense forces successfully repelled the attackers."

#1  Gotta love that headline. The graphic is pretty cool too. But I'm confused. One story says he was killed in Camaroon and the other story says it was in Nigeria. Is he the bad boy so nice they gotta kill him twice?

Arabia
Houthi Rebels sweep Yemeni capital
On Monday, the Shi'ite Houthi rebels that had been protesting in the thousands for days in Yemen's capital Sana'a made sweeping military gains in the city, capturing government offices and military installations and prompting some reports to speak of their "almost complete control of the capital." The Houthis' stunning advance came only one day after they signed a peace agreement with the Yemeni government calling for the formation of a new inclusive government.

Local press reports on Monday described the complete absence of any Yemeni security services on the streets of Sana'a and the consolidation of the strong Houthi presence in the city. Houthi militias were reportedly fortifying their positions and setting up checkpoints on strategically significant roads in the capital, including Hadda, Sitteen, and Zubayri.

In a sign of their new-found power, the rebels raided the downtown residences of Ali Muhsin, security adviser to the Yemeni president and key military commander, and Hameed al-Ahmar, leader of the Yemeni Alliance for Reform party. Both men hail from the powerful Ahmar clan, part of the Hashid tribal confederation, and have been vocal supporters of the main Sunni party, Islah. On Sunday, Muhsin also reportedly clashed with the Houthis at the former headquarters of the First Armored Division and subsequently fled.

Over the weekend, the Houthi rebels took control of many other homes, offices, and military bases in the Yemeni capital. They reportedly seized tanks and armored vehicles from Yemeni military headquarters, which they drove out of the city to their northern strongholds on Monday.

The rebels also attacked Yemen's state television headquarters, burning its two main buildings in an attempt to seize control of the facilities. Additionally, the Houthis seized the vehicle of Sana'a's mayor, Abdulwader Hilal, at one of their checkpoints in the city.

Yemeni Official: 340 Killed In Week-Long Fighting
[Ynet] Yemeni medical officials say 200 more bodies have been retrieved from the streets of the capital, Sanaa, bringing to 340 the corpse count from a week of fierce festivities between Hawthi Iranian catspaws on one side and Sunni murderous Moslems and army troops on the other.

The officials say many of the bodies were decomposed after being left for days in the streets and the heat as ambulances could not reach them amid intense fighting.

Bahraini court sentences 9 Shia activists to 5-year jail
[ABNA.IR] A Bahraini appeals court has upheld an earlier ruling that handed five-year imprisonment sentences to nine Shia activists.

According to Judicial sources in the nation's capital of Manama, the defendants, among them a photojournalist and an online activist, were convicted of calling for the downfall of the despotic Al Khalifa regime.

The court upheld an April ruling sentencing photographer, Hussain Hubail, and activist, Jassim al-Nuaimi, along with seven other Shias, to five years in prison, after convicting them of plotting to overthrow the ruling regime "through illegal means via media and social networks."

They were also convicted of calling for and taking part in anti-government protest rallies in the previous year.

Attorneys for the Shia activists, however, insist that the defendants are innocent and were forced to confess to the allegations under duress.

In search for security, China's navy enters Strait of Hormuz

It is the first such port call to Iran by the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) and highlights the efforts both China and Iran are making to counterbalance the power of the United States in the Middle East and along the sea lanes connecting the oil fields of the Gulf with major energy-consuming centres in Asia.

advance on Monday as Kurdish youths from neighbouring Turkey rushed to their aid, heightening the pressure on Ankara to act against the Islamist bully boys.

In Turkey, which is struggling to manage an influx of more than 130,000 Syrian Kurdish refugees since Friday, security forces fired tear gas and water cannon at hundreds of Kurdish protesters who accuse Ankara of favouring Islamic State against the Kurds.

The main Kurdish gang in northern Syria, the YPG, said its fighters had halted the Islamic State advance east of the predominantly Kurdish town of Kobani, also known as Ayn al-Arab, but that fierce fighting was continuing.

#1  See also REUTERS, TOPIX > KURDS WELCOME AIRSTRIKES ON "ISLAMIC STATE", BUT CURSE TURKEY'S ABSENCE.

Again, besides the future Islamic Mahdi/Hidden Imam the threat from the ISIS Caliphate lays in its super-hardline influence potens destabilizing + usurping the secular ideologies of Rising Iran + so-called Neo-Ottoman Turkey.

Besides Iran [Syria-Lebanon], TURKEY is also surrounded at the moment by NATO-EU, Vlad = Russia, + China in Iraq, so its likely safe to say that any ISIS-influenced Turkey years to "escape the ring".

IN THE END, HOWEVER, ISIS-INFLUENCED TURKEY WILL BREAK THE RING.

THE TIME TO STOP OR CHANGE THE ABOVE IS N-O-W.

Home Front: WoT
Americans Have Returned After Joining Islamists, US Admits
The White House believes some Americans who have fought for Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (IS or ISIS) and other groups have returned to the US, an unnamed Obama administration official admitted for the first time Monday.
Why unnamed?
Over 100 Americans are believed to have joined Islamist extremists, the official admitted, during a press briefing on foreign nationals fighting in the Syrian Civil War.

Several watchdog groups and intelligence agencies have released estimates regarding Americans involved in the fighting, but Monday marks the first admission that US-born jihadists have returned home from a White House official.

“It includes those who’ve gone, those who’ve tried to go, some who’ve come back and are under active—the FBI is looking at them,” the official said. “These are FBI matters, I refer you to them on specifics.”

“This is worked on a case by case basis,” the official added, saying the White House “defer[s] to the FBI” on further questions. Specific organizations known to have recruited Americans, he said, are IS, Al Qaeda, and the Al-Nusra Front.
Poor official, going through life without a name...
Hours earlier, US Secretary of State John Kerry also cited "100 Americans in Syria" in an MSNBC interview, but declined to mention any who have returned.

Exact data on foreign nationals globally is uncertain. Some estimates claim that up to 75,000 foreign nationals may now have joined Syrian rebel groups. But the Obama administration official added Monday that the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) has placed the official estimate at closer to 15,000 foreign nationals from 80 countries, with roughly 2,000 Europeans and over 100 Americans.

Outrage and concern over American involvement with IS has risen dramatically over the past month, after the cruel beheading murders of three US and British journalists and escalating threats from the terror organization.

News of returning terrorists with US citizenship surfaces after two US nationals made headlines for attempting to help IS, with one Colorado woman aiming to marry into the group and a New York man actively involved in sending money and providing training for the organization.

IS Attacks Iraqi Army Base, Kill 40 And Capture At Least 70
[AnNahar] Jihadists attacked an Iraqi army base west of Baghdad with six jacket wallahs, killing 40 soldiers and capturing at least 70 others who fled, a senior army officer said Monday.

Four suicide bombers detonated explosives-rigged armored personnel carriers at the base in Saqlawiyah on Sunday, while two others attacked with boom belts, General Rashid Fleih told Agence La Belle France-Presse.

"Forty soldiers and officers were killed and contact was lost with between 70 and 80" who fled the base and were subsequently captured by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) jihadist group, Fleih said.

IS myrmidons, who led an offensive that overran swathes of the country in June, detonated a bridge near the base five days ago, isolating it, he said.

The jihadists also planted bombs on roads leading to the area, making it even more difficult to send reinforcements and leaving the soldiers to fight the gunnies from inside the base.

Then the suicide bombers struck on Sunday in one of the deadliest single attacks on Iraqi soldiers in years.

The United States launched a campaign of air strikes against IS in Iraq last month and La Belle France has also bombed the group, which holds significant territory in neighboring Syria and has declared a cross-border Islamic "caliphate".

IS has executed hundreds of Iraqis and Syrians, beheaded foreign hostages and forced more than one million people from their homes in Iraq alone.

And its front man, Abu Mohammed al-Adnani, called in a statement posted online Monday for Moslems to kill citizens of all countries taking part in the anti-jihadist coalition that the United States is working to form.

Abadi orders detention of military leaders after gas attack
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces Haidar al-Abadi issued a statement this evening in relation to the Saqlawiya catastrophe.

The statement noted that a detention order was issued against army corps leaders of those who take the blame on al-Saqlawiya catastrophe in north of Fallujah and promised they will be interrogated.
It's better to arrest them rather than have them lead the counter-attack. Same thing happened to Nimitz, MacArthur and Eisenhower...
Abadi's Office affirmed in a statement today, that four days ago, Iraqi PM Abadi gave his orders to send military aid and additional troops to that area in north of Fallujah.

ISIS kills 300 Iraqi soldiers by chlorine gas attack in Saqlawiyah
(IraqiNews.com) On Monday several Members of Parliament from Diwaniyah Province confirmed that ISIS killed over 300 soldiers using chlorine gas for the first time in Saqlawiyah, north of Fallujah.

Islamic Dawa party MP Ali al-Badri said, at a press conference at the parliament building in the presence of a number of deputies of Diwaniyah province and attended by IraqiNews.com that “the terrorist organization ISIS used chlorine gas for the first time in the region of Saqlawiyah after trapping more than 400 troops, resulting in the deaths of many of them due to suffocation while the terrorist gangs detonated car bombs within the brigade headquarters.”

Badri said, “We hold the full responsibility for the fate of the trapped soldiers to the Commanding General of the Armed Forces, Haider Abadi, and the security leaders, especially the Anbar Operations Chief, Lt. Gen. Rashid Flaih, because of the slow measures taken by the Air Force despite frequent appeals for rapid procedures to rescue the soldiers since several days ago.”
How about holding the ISIS responsible?
Badri added that the “Saqlawiyah crime is considered as the second Speicher Massacre,” stressing that “300 soldiers were killed in the attack.”

#4  The Speicher Massacre was near Tikrit in mid June 2014. No chlorine gas was used, just bullets. The dead (between 1000 and 1700) were unarmed cadets who were departing the training base for leave from Iraqi army training. They were captured by ISIS and executed in mass.

Israel Shoots Down Syrian MiG Over Golan Heights
TEL AVIV, Israel - Israel shot down a Syrian fighter jet after it entered the country's airspace on Tuesday, an official said.
Pic of the knock-down at the link.
"A Syrian aircraft infiltrated into Israeli airspace. The [Israeli Defense Forces] intercepted the aircraft in mid-flight, using the Patriot air defense system," an IDF spokesman told NBC News, adding that the plane was thought to be a MiG. "The circumstances of the incident are being reviewed."

An unidentified Syrian military source described the shoot-down as an act of aggression, according to Syrian state TV.
As opposed to the penetration of Israeli air space?
The last time Israel downed a Syrian MiG was on Nov. 19, 1984, the IDF said. The Israeli policy is not to interfere in Syria's raging civil war, but officials have warned that anything that crosses the border will get shot down. A drone from Syria was shot down on Aug. 31 and shells from the fighting in Syria periodically land in the Golan Heights.

#3  I don't support Syria in this mess, but some tolerance might be in order. Was the pilot running from an ISIS SAM/Manpad and yes they have them. Or being Syrian got lost or scared shitless by all the crap that got shot or dropped last night. I do recall defectors back in the Cold War who brought their MIG with them. Israel does have very legitimate worries, Syria trying to drag them into this mess is one - to divert ISIS. Still Israel has suffered 1000's rockets so why drop a lone Syrian MIG?

Israeli Said Slain Fighting For Islamic State
[IsraelTimes] An Israeli Bedouin who joined the Islamic State was killed in Syria fighting for the radical jihadist group, Channel 10 reported on Sunday.

The unidentified man died last week after earlier crossing the border along with another member of his family, which hails from an unrecognized Bedouin community in southern Israel.

The news report gave no indication of the man's identity, the manner of his death, or the source of the information.

If confirmed, the man may be the first Israeli killed fighting for the Islamic State.

Israeli security forces received information about the man's plan to enter Syria before he had left the country, but were unable to act in time to prevent him slipping across the border, the report said.

In May, the Shin Bet security service said in a statement that an Arab Israeli from the town of Hura in the Negev Desert was arrested in late April for helping two family members leave Israel, enter Syria, and join the ranks of the Islamic State.

Idris Abu Alqayan, 23, was arrested on April 28 and charged on May 15 with conspiracy to commit a crime and aiding an unlawful exit from the country.

It was not clear whether the Israeli killed last week was one of the two that Alqayan aided in leaving the country.

At the beginning of September, the Shin Bet said that there are 10 Israeli-Arabs who are known to be fighting with the Islamic State, which has conquered large areas of Syria and Iraq.

Around 200,000 Bedouin live in the Negev, most concentrated in an area around the city of Beersheba.

Arab Gunmen Fire Automatic Weapons in Jerusalem Suburb
A group of armed terrorists held an impromptu march through the streets of an Arab neighborhood in Jerusalem, in the latest illustration of the growing lawlessness in Arab-majority sections of the capital.

The men - at least one of whom appears to be carrying a Fatah flag - fired in the air in what Quds News Network described as a show of force against "clients of the occupation, drug dealers and sowers of corruption."

The demonstration apparently took place in the Kafr Aqab neighborhood in northern Jerusalem, just two kilometers away from the Palestinian Authority-controlled city of Ramallah.

Jewish residents of Jerusalem have complained for months of an alarming spike in violence against Jews and Jewish-owned property, particularly in Arab-majority neighborhoods and the French Hill area. In some cases, Arab extremists have targeted Jewish civilians and Israeli police with live gunfire, as well as rocks, molotov cocktails and fireworks. Several Jewish families who accidentally strayed into predominantly Arab neighborhoods have been targeted by anti-Semitic lynch-mobs.

Residents are describing the violence as a "silent intifada", and accuse security officials and local authorities of not doing enough to stamp out the problem. A recent protest by embattled residents singled out Internal Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovich out for criticism, accusing him of not enabling police to deal with the problem.

Stung by the criticism, Aharonovich joined the Jerusalem District Police Chief in a tour of some of the effected areas, and vowed a crackdown. A string of arrests have followed those pledges, but critics say authorities are still ignoring the root problem of a general state of lawlessness and lack of Israeli sovereignty in parts of the capital.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
US, Arab Allies Launch First Wave of Strikes in Syria
Seems there are planes from SA, Jordan and ??? flying (seems that could be good or bad.... can these pilots fly with our pilots? ... some bases somewhere, but at least there is involvement --- Ollie gave an incredible description for us civvies for all that is concerned for this to happen --- the AWACs, the refueling planes, the intelligence folks, command centers everywhere and of course, there are people on the ground directing traffic...
Godspeed to our military

The United States, joined by several Arab allies, launched an intense campaign of airstrikes, bombings and cruise-missile attacks against Islamic State targets in Syria Monday night marking the first U.S. military intervention in Syria since the start of that country's civil war.

Sources say the military operation includes fighter jets, B-1 bombers and Predator drones, as well as Tomahawk missiles launched from the Red Sea and Persian Gulf.

Officials say the coalition is targeting about 20 sites, including command-and-control centers, training camps and weapons depots.

U.S. officials told Fox News that several Arab countries "including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates" were participating.
So sorta like but not as inclusive as the Bush coalition...
The operation was expected to last several hours, with the first explosions from Tomahawk missiles heard near Raqqa, the Islamic State stronghold in northern Syria

U.S. aircraft include B-1 bombers, F-16s, F-18s and Predator drones, with F-18s flying missions off the USS George H.W. Bush in the Persian Gulf. Tomahawk missiles were fired from the destroyer USS Arleigh Burke in the Red Sea.

Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby released a statement Monday night saying, "I can confirm that U.S. military and partner nation forces are undertaking military action against ISIL terrorists in Syria using a mix of fighter, bomber and Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles.

"Given that these operations are ongoing, we are not in a position to provide additional details at this time. The decision to conduct theses strikes was made earlier today by the U.S. Central Command commander under authorization granted him by the commander in chief. "

#5  I'm reasonably certain the regime coordinated the strikes with the Assad government in some manner. The early tip-off was when we were told by Washington that "there would be no coordination with Assad." Vlad or the Iranians may have even provided targeting folders.

The absence of any wild protestations from the Syrian Government or the Russians, should confirm my suspicions.

#9  Somehow the virulent ideology that creates such groups as ISIS and AQ will have to be addressed or the Whack-a-Mole terrorist problem will keep coming up.

This is going to go on for awhile. At least the price of belonging to a terrorist group has been upped.

I would suspect that an 'understanding' was reached within the AO and flight corridors, since IS doesn't have any known operable high-speed aircraft.
