Edward Snowden says Hillary Clinton 'ridiculous' to think emails were secure
[The Guardian] Edward Snowden has branded as "completely ridiculous" the idea that Hillary Clinton's personal email server was secure while she was secretary of state.
Systems Subject Matter Expert Mr. Edward Snowden who now resides in Moscow.
The National Security Agency whistleblower was speaking in an interview with Al-Jazeera.

In 2014, Clinton accused Snowden of inadvertently helping terrorists. Since then she has toned down such criticism and said the NSA needs to be more transparent.

On Thursday, Snowden was asked what he would say to Clinton now that she is being investigated for sending emails containing classified information while using a private server.

"This is a problem," Snowden said, "because anyone who has the clearances that the secretary of state has, or the director of any top-level agency has, knows how classified information should be handled."

He added: "If an ordinary worker at the State Department or the CIA ... were sending details about the security of embassies, which is alleged to be in her email, meetings with private government officials, foreign government officials and the statements that were made to them in confidence over unclassified email systems, they would not only lose their jobs and lose their clearance, they would very likely face prosecution for it."
Who should know more about classified traffic, leaks, hacking, espionage, and treason.

Will Hillary Clinton's Emails Burn the White House ?
[Daily Beast] Counterintelligence specialists suspect that the former secretary of state wasn't the only member of the Obama administration emailing secrets around.
Noooooooo! Please say it isn't so.
Hillary Clinton's email problems are already causing headaches for her presidential campaign. But within American counterintelligence circles, there's a mounting sense that the former secretary of state may not be the only Obama administration official in trouble. This is a scandal that has the potential to spread to the White House, as well.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation can be expected to be tight-lipped, especially because this highly sensitive case is being handled by counterintelligence experts from Bureau headquarters a few blocks down Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House, not by the FBI's Washington Field Office. That will ensure this investigation gets the needed "big picture" view, since even senior FBI agents at any given field office may only have a partial look at complex counterintelligence cases.

And this most certainly is a counterintelligence matter. There's a widely held belief among American counterspies that foreign intelligence agencies had to be reading the emails on Hillary's private server, particularly since it was wholly unencrypted for months. "I'd fire my staff if they weren't getting all this," explained one veteran Department of Defense counterintelligence official, adding: "I'd hate to be the guy in Moscow or Beijing right now who had to explain why they didn't have all of Hillary's email." Given the widespread hacking that has plagued the State Department, the Pentagon, and even the White House during Obama's presidency, senior counterintelligence officials are assuming the worst about what the Russians and Chinese know.

"Assuming the worst" or examining worst case scenarios is SOP in this line of work. Attempts at remediation demand this approach.

#2  Obama is moving the chess (or checkers) pieces around. I'll bet he senses the danger to himself from the Hillary investigation. He will try to control the investigation very closely but without his fingerprints on it. I look for Slow Joe to be put forth as the Donk candidate in 2016. That provides some safety down the road in case he has to pull and Nixon and seek a pardon from Biden. Purely speculation but who knows.

TN Gov't Official Indicted For Allegedly Trading Cookies for Nookie
[Daily Caller] Tennessee state officials announced Thursday that they have arrested state Department of Human Services Eligibility Counselor Alfred Awonuga for allegedly trading food stamps for sex.

In his role, Awonuga was responsible for deciding if a person was eligible for food stamps. An investigation by Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) found he used his authority to coercive individuals into having sex with him. This included some not otherwise eligible to receive benefits.

"Awonuga used his position to attempt to get a participant in the state's food assistance program to have sex with him in exchange for benefits," a press release from TBI detailed. "Agents further learned Awonuga manipulated the program in a separate incident by obtaining benefits for an applicant who would otherwise not be eligible in an attempt to get the participant to have sex with him.

12 Shot Dead, 13 Wounded in Chicago Since Tuesday Night
[Breitbart] According to the Chicago Tribune, the various shootings "began shortly before midnight Tuesday when a 16-year-old boy was killed in the Lawndale neighborhood... [and] about a half-hour later and about 3 miles away, a 25-year-old man was killed." Approximately two hours after that, two men were killed in Uptown.

In addition to these deaths, a 16-year-old boy, 14-year-old girl, and 42-year-old woman were shot and wounded on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the killing began early with a 25-year-old man shot and killed just after midnight. "Two men were shot to death in the Uptown neighborhood" shortly after 2 a.m. Another man was killed, and two were wounded around 9 a.m.

The shooting continued throughout the day, including the death of a 19-year-old around 9:45 p.m. and the death of a 23-year-old man around 11:35 p.m. The last shooting incident--the last shooting incident reported by the Tribune--occurred at 12:15 a.m. Thursday, when a "20-year-old man was seriously wounded in a shooting around in the Oakland neighborhood on the South Side."

It should be noted that Chicago has some of the strictest gun controls in the country. Gun stores are only allowed in a very small percentage of the city, and those sales are recorded by law. The LA Times reports that Chicago also "bans [gun] sales at gun shows within the city limits," and Breitbart News has previously reported that Chicago has the very gun and ammo tax that Seattle just enacted as a means of fighting gun violence.

It should also be noted that Chicago has an "assault weapons" ban.

#1  Well, just think how many fluffy bunnies and baby ducks would have been wacked if honest, law-abiding citizens were actually allowed to own the horrible weapons!

Actually, I think all the law-abiding citizens moved out to the suburbs a long time ago. Only the Democrats, voting in every election, whether dead or alive, remain.
Posted by: Bobby || 09/04/2015 8:02 Comments || Top||

#2  The obvious solution is to go to the house of every registered gun owner and confiscate their guns. Since the police know exactly who owns guns, this should be easy. That will immediately end this carnage.

High city officials and their private bodyguards will be exempt, of course.

Clinton aide sought 'aggressive action' against official who mishandled classified info, emails
[Wash Examiner] While Hillary Rodham Clinton appears to be getting a free pass for mishandling classified information in emails, her chief of staff once sought to bring down the legal hammer on State officials who also improperly handled sensitive information and emails.

Cheryl D. Mills sent an email to several top government officials recommending "aggressive action" against whoever leaked emails detailing how the U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan didn't believe that former Afghan President Hamid Karzai was an "adequate strategic partner."

"The leaking of classified material is a breach not only of trust, it is also a breach of the law. In either event, we should seek a full investigation and send a deterrent message to the community that this type of security breach is unacceptable and seriously jeopardizes our national interest.

"Can you advise what have been steps taken in the past in these types of matters as I would like to ensure we take aggressive action," she wrote in the email signed "Cdm."

Arby's Apologizes After Worker Refuses to Serve Officer
[ABCNEWS.GO] The Arby's restaurant chain is apologizing after an employee at a South Florida location refused to serve a police officer.

Pembroke Pines Police Chief Dan Giustino says the Atlanta-based company's chief executive officer and senior vice president of operations contacted him Wednesday afternoon, just hours after Giustino publicly announced the slight against one of his officers.

Arby's also put out a news release saying the company respects and supports police and that disciplinary action would be taken.

An incident report says a police sergeant attempted to order at the Arby's drive-thru, about 20 miles north of Miami, Tuesday evening. A manager explained the drive-thru worker didn't want to serve her because she was a police officer. The manager ordered the employee to serve the sergeant, but after that, she said she no longer felt comfortable eating the food.

I suspect tainted food will be a growing problem for police. If I was a cop I'd only go to places I knew really well.

If I were a crook I'd target that Arby's knowing the police response will probably be a bit slower than usual.

White House Staffer Resigns After Assault Charges
[WEEKLYSTANDARD] On Wednesday, according to a report by WJLA in Washington, "Barvetta Singletary, a White House staffer, resigned today following assault charges." This dramatic news, however, received scant coverage in the major media. As of Thursday morning, only The Hill and Roll Call had covered the resignation. All three reports credit an unnamed White House spokesperson for confirming the news.

WJLA provides a short summary of the facts of the case:

Tuesday, prosecutors said a White House staffer had been indicted on assault and other charges following a dispute with a U.S. Capitol Police officer at her home.

Prince George's County say 37-year-old Singletary got into an argument with a U.S. Capitol Police officer after an alleged sexual encounter. Singletary then grabbed the officer's service weapon from a bag and fired once in his direction. No one was injured.

Singletary had been on unpaid leave since her arrest several weeks ago. Both Roll Call and The Hill note that the White House has accepted Singletary's resignation.

Shootout At Los Angeles Funeral Leaves 1 Critically Injured
[HOSTED.AP.ORG] A shootout at the Los Angeles funeral for a man rubbed out by the mob has left one person critically maimed.
... as long as they were at the funeral home anyway...
The Los Angeles Times ( http://lat.ms/1Q9TJdN ) says it happened shortly before noon Wednesday in the parking lot of a South Los Angeles funeral home.

A memorial service was being held for 41-year-old Kumase Jefferson, who was shot on Aug. 15 in what's believed to be an ongoing gang war in the area.

Police say Jefferson's friends and family were standing in the parking lot when gang rivals approached.

Lt. John Jenal says some mourners moved toward the gang members, who opened fire, and some mourners shot back in a running shootout.

Some suspects drove away. But their car crashed, and police detained two people for questioning.

Venezuela president says Colombia has given consent to plot to kill him
[Iran Press TV] Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has claimed that the Bogota government is aware of a plot emanating from Colombia to assassinate him, amid escalating border tensions between the two South American neighbors.
Oh. A foreign plot. Right on schedule...
During a visit to Vietnam on Monday, Maduro accused his Colombian counterpart Juan Manuel Santos of being aware of the liquidation plot that he said was being orchestrated from the Colombian capital, Bogota.

"I have evidence that I am going to show that a plot to kill me is being carried out from Bogota... regrettably with the knowledge of a Colombian government that looks the other way," said the Venezuelan supremo, without saying which parties he thought are behind the alleged plot.

Russia is Returning to the Moon, Paving the Way for a Crewed Landing
h/t Instapundit
In recent years, Roscosmos has largely concentrated on crewed missions, struggling to get a spaceprobe to its intended destination. But Luna 25 hopes to change that. The moon probe, set to launch in 2024, will mark a return to the moon for Russia, which hasn't landed a probe on the moon since 1976. It's a surveyor for an even bigger goal: a crewed landing and lunar base.
I wonder what form Russian Outreach to Islam would take?
