Benghazi panel to interview more of Clinton's inner circle
WASHINGTON (AP) - The chairman of a congressional panel investigating the deadly Benghazi attacks said Friday that a member of Hillary Rodham Clinton's inner circle could provide key insight into how the State Department maintained its presence in Libya prior to the 2012 attack.

Jake Sullivan, a former policy director and deputy chief of staff under Clinton at the State Department, arrived early Friday for what is expected to be a daylong session of testimony.

Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., the committee's chairman, said Sullivan was in a "unique position" to talk about how U.S. policy in Libya required the State Department to have a physical presence in the country. Sullivan is currently a top policy aide on Clinton's presidential campaign.

Mike Morrell, the CIA's former deputy director, likely will be the next witness to appear before the panel, Gowdy told reporters.

Clinton, the Democratic front-runner for the 2016 nomination, has been dogged by criticism about her use of a private email server for government business during her tenure as secretary of state, and she has struggled to explain her decision.

The panel that was established to investigate Benghazi has gotten immersed, as well, in the controversy surrounding Clinton's email proclivities.

Cheryl Mills, Clinton's former chief of staff, answered questions for the panel for 9½ hours on Thursday. Few details were released, but knowledgeable officials said lawmakers asked Mills about her role in preparing "talking points" for administration officials following the 2012 attack on U.S. diplomatic facilities in Benghazi that killed four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya.

Gowdy said Friday that Mills answered all of their questions in a professional manner and that inquiries which focused on a private email server Clinton used while serving as secretary of state, including its set-up, came only later in the session.

"Our committee is the committee on Benghazi. It's not the committee on emails," Gowdy said.

Democrats called on Republicans to disband the committee. Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., a member of the panel, wrote in an op-ed in The New York Times that it had become "little more than a partisan tool to influence the presidential race, a dangerous precedent that will haunt Congress for decades."

"Whatever their original purpose, the Select Committee's leaders appear no longer to have any interest in Benghazi, except as the tragic events of that day may be used as a cudgel against the likely Democratic nominee for president," he said.

Mills, a lawyer who has worked for former President Bill Clinton, said after Thursday's meeting that she was treated with professional courtesy and respect.

"Ultimately the tragedy in Benghazi was about the loss of (four) individuals dear to the State Department and dear to this country," Mills said. "We honor them by remembering what happened and doing our best to make sure it doesn't happen again."

Gowdy said Mills' session would be treated as classified and declined to answer any specific questions.

Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, the senior Democrat on the committee, called for Gowdy and committee Republicans to release a transcript of Mills' testimony as soon as possible, so the public can learn what questions were asked and how they were answered.

The request to release the transcript was unlikely to be granted, Gowdy said, noting that much of what was discussed related to national security.

#1  The Canada Free Press has a fairly good summary of this security debacle. Canada Free Press. It's possible that Obama and Hilarity both believe in Soros "No Borders" OWG and they extend this concept to security and emails as well. Maybe that is why she was so sloppy. As the candidate said about Benghazi: "What difference does it make?" Well the difference is that Russians, Chinese, and radical Islamics may have hacked her unencrypted personal server. Four good people died is the difference.

#2  Mills also sanitized recommended "changes" in the "independent" ARB Benghazi Report :

But raising alarms on the right, Mills, Clinton’s former chief of staff at the State Department, also told the House Select Committee on Benghazi that she reviewed and made suggestions for changes to the government’s official, final report on what happened in Benghazi, according to a separate, GOP source familiar with what she said.

The source said it “call[s] into question the ‘independence’” of the report’s conclusions. …

One of the biggest surprises to the right was that she said she made suggestions to change state’s accountability review board report. The report was supposed to be independent from state officials that may be involved, and the GOP argues top officials should not have had input, long questioning how independent the findings were.

It doesn’t call it into question; Mills’ testimony debunks the claim of independence altogether. That should have been disregarded from the beginning. Let’s not forget that Ambassador Thomas Pickering decided early on to focus on those below the political-appointment rank in the ARB’s investigation, never bothering to interview people like Patrick Kennedy, the undersecretary of State whose responsibilities included facility security. Now we find out that Pickering apparently ran the report by Mills for her approval and editing, which a truly independent investigation would hardly do. It’s yet another reason for a Congressional investigation into Benghazi, and the Libya policies that led up to it.

#3  Four good people died is the difference.

Sorry to tell you this JQC but to the members of this regime this makes no difference whatsoever.

Unless there is some direct immediate personal effect on them there attitude is "So what?"

Iran gets the bomb? So what.
Israel gets nuked? So what.
Russia captures the Ukraine, the Baltics and Finland? So what.
China takes Taiwan and moves on Japan? So what.
They get brought into court? OMG THIS IS A REVOLUTION CALL OUT THE ARMY!!!

Blasts in Egypt's Sinai injure six peacekeepers, including four Americans: Pentagon
[AlAhram] Six soldiers including four Americans were maimed on Thursday in two blasts in northeast Sinai caused by improvised bombs, the Pentagon said.

The Multinational Force and Observer peacekeepers were evacuated "by air to a medical facility where all are receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries," Captain Jeff Davis said in a statement.

The four Americans were struck by the second blast as they were en route to help the soldiers hurt in the first, according to Major Roger Cabiness.

The MFO was created as a result of the 1979 peace treaty between Egypt and Israel and is based in Sinai, the peninsula that lies between Israel, the Gazoo Strip and the Suez Canal. About 650 Americans are currently assigned to the force, Cabiness said.

Israel has called on Egypt to crack down on growing lawlessness in the Sinai, which has become a hideout for jihadi groups opposed to Israel.

Cabiness said the Pentagon remains concerned about the deteriorating security conditions in the region.

"We are considering what, if any, additional measures might be needed to ensure force protection. This includes bringing in additional equipment if necessary," he told Rooters.

#1  This was bound to happen. The Multinational Force and Observers raison d'etre no longer exists. For a quarter-century it did its job well and patrolled the three Sinai zones dictated by the Camp David accords. It should have been finished off the day Morsi and the Brotherhood came to power in Egypt. The MFO base, located south of El Arish is a sitting duck. Given the Israel-Egypr rapprochement in the Sinai the MFO Gorah Base should be assumed by the Egyptian military. It would save US taxpayers a substantial sum.

Egyptian court sentences 25 Morsi supporters to life in prison
[AlAhram] A Sohag criminal court convicted and sentenced on Thursday 25 Morsi supporters to life in prison on multiple counts of murder and the arson of a church in 2013 following the violent dispersal of the pro-Morsi sit-ins in Nahda and Rabaa squares by security forces.

The court also sentenced 67 defendants in the same case to 15 years in prison while 27 others received ten-year sentences, all of which can be appealed.

The defendants were found guilty on a number of charges, including the torching of Mar Gerges Church in Upper Egypt's Sohag governorate.

The prosecution accused the defendants in the case of a number of crimes including the murder of 15 people and the attempted murder of three others.

Fifty-five defendants were sentenced in absentia. Information has not been released about their current location.

Dozens of churches across Egypt, especially in Upper Egypt, were torched by angry mobs as part of a wave of violence that hit the country following the bloody dispersal of the pro-Morsi sit-ins in August 2013.

Boko Haram Suicide Bomber Arrested In Bauchi
[NAIJ] The Cable.ng reports that a jacket wallah, who was attempting to blow up a motor park in Bauchi state, has been nabbed
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!

Security sources revealed that the 'grown man', who was trying to gain entrance into the motor park, was spotted with explosives on him.

The source explained: "the man came very early in the morning, around 6am, and was trying to enter. But he was unable to achieve his aim.

"Security at the gate detected the bomb, and they caught him. Most of the parks now have metal detectors since Boko Haram

has been targeting crowds of people that can usually be found at parks."

Although no group has grabbed credit for the near act, it is likely that the suicide bomber is an agent of Islamist terrorist group, Boko Haram.

Dutch soldier said to have joined militants
[ARABNEWS] A Dutch sergeant is believed to have run away to Syria to join Daesh gunnies in the first such case involving a serving soldier in the Netherlands, defense officials said Thursday.

Prosecutors have now launched a criminal investigation into the 26-year-old air force sergeant, who has not been identified.

The man has been suspended from duty, and his access to all defense information revoked. It was not immediately known where he was serving and what classified military information he may have been privy to.

"It goes without saying that traveling abroad and joining Daesh is unacceptable, and is also a criminal offense," Defense Minister Jeanine Hennis Plasschaert said in a statement.

It is the first time that a Dutch soldier on active duty has deserted to join the forces of Daesh Death Eater group, which has captured a large swathe of Iraq and Syria since early 2014.

Around 180 Dutch nationals have journeyed to join Daesh or other radical groups, according to the figures published by the Dutch security service AIVD in April. Around 20 have been killed in fighting, and 35 have returned to the Netherlands.

A report by the service said there were believed to be "several hundred" gunnies in the Netherlands, and "thousands" of sympathizers.

"Every case of radicalization is one too many," said Plasschaert Thursday, adding it was "disappointing" that an active soldier had run away to join the holy warriors "while their colleagues are risking their lives for the freedom of others."

The Grand Turk
Four Turkish police killed in PKK bombing
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Four Turkish police were killed on Thursday in a kaboom on their vehicle in the country's southeast blamed on the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), sources told AFP.

The attack is latest deadly strike on the security forces blamed on the PKK since the Turkish government launched a major "anti-terrorist" campaign against the Kurdish Lions of Islam in July.

A local police chief and three other officers were killed when a remote-controlled bomb laid by Lions of Islam exploded on a road in the Dargecit district of Mardin province, security sources said.

The police team was on its way to respond to a fire at a school in Dargecit when the attack took place, according to the source.

The PKK and the armed forces have shot it out daily since a two-year-old ceasefire fell apart in July.

India-Pakistan
Five dead in Indian Kashmir gunbattle
[ARABNEWS] Four suspected rebels and a soldier were killed early Thursday in Indian Kashmire in a gunbattle near the de facto border with Pakistain, the second incident in 24 hours, a police officer said.

Police sealed off a forested area in northern Handwara overnight on suspicion turbans were moving toward a village, triggering a 10-hour shootout between government forces and rebels.

"The turbans were engaged near a stream in the forested area. All four of them were killed and we also lost a soldier in the firefight," deputy inspector general of police for the area, Gharib Das, told AFP, adding that two soldiers were maimed. So-called encounters between troops and turbans have increased recently in the troubled region, with four suspected rebels killed and another captured during a day-long battle last week.

On Wednesday, government forces killed a bully boy from the Hizbul Mujahideen group in a battle in Rafiabad area that also left one soldier dead.

Several rebel groups have for decades battled hundreds of thousands of Indian troops deployed in the region, seeking independence for Kashmire or its merger with Pakistain.

Iraq
ISIS imposes curfew in Mosul after spread of anti-caliphate graffiti
[ARA] The walls of some seven streets in the Iraqi city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
were covered with graffiti that called for rebellion against the radical group of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS/ISIS), local activists reported on Friday. Subsequently, the group imposed a curfew on civilians in the city that was seized by IS in June 2014.

"The graffiti reflected our outrage about the atrocities of Daesh (IS) terrorists. They also reflected the hunger and deteriorating living conditions that people are suffering under the rule of the alleged caliphate," an Iraqi activist in Mosul told ARA News on the condition of anonymity.

A group of anti-IS activists launched last week a campaign calling on the people of Mosul to revolt against the Islamic State.

Some of the graffiti vowed the turban group that "Mosul will be liberated soon", threatening to kill the Death Eater leaders "who caused a lot of suffering for civilians" in the city, the same source reported.

Speaking to ARA News on the phone, Abdullah al-Malla, a resident of Mosul, said: "Daesh (IS) has executed hundreds of innocent civilians, including women, under the pretext of violating Sharia regulations. We are Moslems and we are familiar with Sharia, but Daesh has created its own Sharia based on terrorism and the group has given itself the right to take lives. We won't stay silent on all those atrocities."

"The group has raped many women, killed prominent doctors, engineers and tribal figures. Those turbans have also robbed and confiscated houses of displaced families. Additionally, they have been using civilians as human shields during their battles. Thus, we have nothing to lose anymore; we'll raise in the face of those barbarians," al-Malla said.

The curfew imposed by IS in Mosul included the streets of Jazaer, Ilam, al-Bakir, al-Qadissiyah, al-Zuhour, Muthana and Tahrir, which witnessed the anti-IS graffiti campaign last week.

(ISIS) has executed 40 of its Lion of Islams, including prominent Saudi leading members, in the eastern Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor on charges of refusing to follow military orders, activists reported on Thursday.

The ISIS-linked Sharia Court in al-Mayadin city of Deir ez-Zor province has issued a decision to execute every member of the group who refuses to abide by the regulations of the ISIS general leadership.

"ISIS has executed more than 40 forces of Evil in the Musbaq al-Suney district of al-Mayadin, saying they have refused to join the battles in Aleppo province," media activist Mujahid al-Shami told ARA News in al-Mayadin.

The group has been transferring forces of Evil to join the fighting fronts in Aleppo and northern Raqqa after losing ground to Kurdish forces and Syrian rebel battalions.

"Among those executed were several Saudi leading members who refused to leave Deir ez-Zor province. ISIS considers every member who refuses to follow military orders a traitor and deserves death," al-Shami reported.

This comes after violent rifts hit the ranks of the Islamic State over money and power.

On Monday, an internal clash claimed lives of 17 ISIS forces of Evil in the Iraqi region of Baaj.

On Tuesday, Abu Huzaifa al-Libi, a prominent commander of the Islamic State in Raqqa, was rubbed out by a Syrian Lion of Islam after disputes turned into violence between them. An activist in Raqqa told ARA News (on the condition of anonymity) that al-Libi was killed after trying to force fellow forces of Evil to head to the fighting front in al-Hol town in the northeastern Syrian province of Hasakah.

"When a group of Syrian members of ISIS refused al-Libi's orders to join the battles in al-Hol, he (al-Libi) threatened to execute them. One of the Syrian forces of Evil reacted on the commander's threat by shooting him in the head," the source said.
