Novi judge resigns a month before facing disciplinary hearing
[FREEP] Novi District court judge Dennis Powers is resigning from the bench Sept. 1, a month before he faced a disciplinary hearing for misconduct.

Powers had been the subject of a television news story earlier this year that accused him of golfing when he should have been on the bench, turning in improper mileage requests and coming in late to work. The Judicial Tenure Commission was seeking to unseat him, saying an audit found that he had received almost $4,000 in mileage he was not entitled to.

Powers repaid the money earlier this year and said he had misunderstood the county's mileage policy. He sought some of the mileage reimbursement to travel to real estate classes, and said the classes were important because he sometimes had cases before him involving property disputes. And he said he attended community golf outings as outreach for the court.

In His Mug Shot, Rick Perry Comes Out Smelling Like A Texas Yellow Rose
[NEWS.INVESTORS] Texas Gov. Rick Perry smiled confidently for his mug shot, as if to signal he would prevail over politicized big government. In fact, that may resonate as a campaign theme for voters weary of the same abuses.
That mug shot may make him president.
Until now, the prevailing "narrative" was that a governor under indictment on two counts of "abuses of power" would be political toast. Because even if the charges were baseless, as these are, the mug shot and the screeching headlines would bring certain opprobrium.

It certainly happened that way for now-exonerated House leader Tom DeLay, whose career was ruined by the same tactics that the same Travis County prosecutor's office is using against Perry.

The Feds Really Don't Want You to Smoke at Work
[FREEBEACON] The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is seeking to ban all tobacco use at every work place in the country, including businesses that operate primarily outdoors.

The agency published a Current Intelligence Bulletin (CIB) on Friday that would advise the few workplaces that still allow smoking to end the practice, specifically targeting blue-collar workers in the construction and mining industries.

The document, which will be open to public comment for 30 days, provided multiple recommendations from the CDC's National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Among them: ban smoking in outdoor work areas and have bosses ask which of their employees smoke so they can "promptly provide encouragement to quit."

#1  I really don't want you to smoke at work either.

But what the government is trying to do is little more than fascism.

You have the choice to do unhealthy stuff. Insurance companies have the choice to charge you out the wazoo for it. And the government can fuck right off.
Posted by: DarthVader || 08/22/2014 0:45 Comments || Top||

#2  Agreed - what the government is doing is fascism.

How about trying this instead...

The document, which will be open to public comment for 30 days, provided multiple recommendations from the CDC's National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Among them: ban smoking in outdoor work areas and have bosses ask which of their employees smoke marijuana so they can "promptly provide encouragement to quit."

"Establish and maintain tobacco marijuana-free workplaces for all employees, allowing no use of any tobacco marijuana products, including but not limited to cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and smokeless tobacco marijuana products by anyone at any time in the workplace," the document reads. "Ideally, this should be done in concert with an existing tobacco marijuana cessation support program."

A large segment of this country would make Ferguson race riots look like children playing in the park.

First-Term Congressman Aims to Topple Pryor Dynasty in Arkansas
[PJMEDIA] Arkansas has had its share of political dynasties, first and foremost the Clintons. The Pryor family may run a close second.

David Pryor was a Democratic fixture in the state, serving in the U.S. House and U.S. Senate, and as governor. His son, Mark Pryor, now holds the Senate seat he vacated in 1997 and is seeking a third term.

Are Arkansans finally getting Pryor fatigue and ready for a fresh face? If so, few Senate candidates nationwide may be more attractive than Republican challenger Tom Cotton.

"Roll Call just came out with an article that rated Pryor as the second-most-vulnerable senator this year," said Bill Murphy, front man for the National Republican Senatorial Committee in Washington, D.C. "He votes 90 percent of the time with Barack Obama
I mean, I do think at a certain point you've made enough money...
, who is extremely unpopular in the state. Tom Cotton is running a strong race and has a great message that is resonating with Arkansans."

#1  For those that don't know Tom Cotton, here are a few things to consider:

Arkansas born and raised

Graduated from Harvard

Graduated Harvard Law School.

Clerked for the U.S. Court of Appeals and short time in a private law practice

Join the United States Army,
-- declined a commission as a JAG attorney
-- requested and received commission as an Infantry Officer.

Almost five years as an active duty Infantry Officer

Combat tour in Iraq with the 101st Airborne where he led an infantry platoon in daily combat patrols

Platoon leader with the Old Guard at Arlington National Cemetery,

Combat tour in Afghanistan he served as operations officer for a Provincial Reconstruction Team.

Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and Ranger Tab.

Compare that to Pryor's privileged old-boy ways, and his 90% with Obama voting record.

Think about this: Combat experienced Infantry officer and Airborne Ranger. In the Senate. We need this to happen. Consider donating even if you are out of state.

#3  Tom Cotton should be everyone's choice. Best to watch the polls carefully and count the votes carefully in Arkansas and other states to make sure the election grabbers don't steal the election.

Could Legal Challenges Boost Perry, Christie, Walker in '16?
[Real Clear Politics] Chris Christie, Scott Walker and Rick Perry are all positioning themselves to enter the 2016 presidential race as top-tier candidates for the Republican nomination.

But before concerning themselves in earnest with becoming the next GOP standard-bearer, these three governors must contend with a shared, and unpleasant, distinction: Each man, or his administration, faces accusations of legal wrongdoing.

For months, Christie has been trying to move beyond investigations into a decision by members of his administration to close traffic lanes on the George Washington Bridge last September in an apparent act of political Dire Revenge™.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pie fight, Bella opened her mouth at precisely the wrong moment...
Walker has faced down an inquiry into whether he and top aides coordinated illegally with outside groups during his 2012 recall election. A federal judge ordered the investigation halted, but that decision is currently under appeal.

Perry became the latest member of this club no one wants to join when he was indicted last week by a grand jury in Travis County, Texas.

The Texas governor turned himself in Tuesday at an Austin courthouse for booking on two felony charges. The grand jury action stems from his veto of $7.5 million in state funding for a public integrity unit following the refusal of Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg to resign after she was tossed in the slammer
Please don't kill me!
for drunk driving last year.

Perry is accused of abusing his power, but an array of voices -- ranging from fellow conservatives (and potential 2016 contenders) Ted Cruz and Bobby Jindal to former Obama senior adviser David Axelrod
...a reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
-based political hack, political adviser to Barack B.O. Obama since 2004. Following the 2008 election, he was appointed as Senior Advisor to Obama and we all see how well that worked out....

and the liberal-leaning New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
editorial board -- have criticized the indictment as judicial overreach.

Many GOP strategists, however, believe the charges will end up serving Perry well politically.

"Republican primary voters are actually energized when Democrats attempt to criminalize politics," GOP operative Jim Dyke told RCP.

Allies of Christie and Walker have also tried to turn the alleged transgressions on their head by suggesting the high-profile governors are the victims of Democrats' plots to undermine their presidential chances.

It's a strategy that may pay dividends in a 2016 primary fight, as all three would be courting conservative voters who will likely see the investigations as badges of honor.

Democratic Senator Is Running on Obamacare in a Surprising New Ad
[TIME] Senator Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) is running in one of the tightest reelection races in the country, facing freshman Rep. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), a U.S. Army veteran. So it may come as some surprise that in Pryor's new ad released Wednesday, he chose to hone in on his support of President Barack Obama
They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them...
's unpopular healthcare law.

In the personal new ad, Pryor's father, David, a former senator himself, talks about his son's battle with sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, in 1996. "When Mark was diagnosed with cancer, we thought we might lose him," David Pryor says in a voiceover. "But you know what? Mark's insurance company didn't want to pay for the treatment that ultimately saved his life."

By opening up about the struggle for his own life, Pryor aims to connect with his constituents. "No one should be fighting an insurance company when you're fighting for your life," he says in the ad. "That's why I helped pass a law that prevents insurance companies from canceling your policy if you're sick or deny coverage from preexisting conditions."

#1  Obamacare; that's why we finally were able to confirm that for the last 5 months we have been paying somebody else's premiums to AARP. The bank stonewalled us earlier, so are now in work trying to get the $$ back.. we were (finally) able to get a stop payment order in place....

#2  "That'swhy I helped pass a law that prevents insurance companies from canceling your policy if you're sick or deny coverage from preexisting conditions."

Most lies come wrapped in a grain or two of truth. The prohibition of 'denial of coverage' is one such wrapping.

#1  From Richard Fernandez:
Can Obama still control all the forces he’s ‘separably’ unleashed? Maybe the reason he stays in the Vineyard is that he’s guessed the answer. It’s his psychological bunker, where he waits, hoping for a last minute reprieve from Steiner. He doesn’t know what comes next anymore and frankly, is afraid to look.
