Afghanistan
Drone Attack Kills Three Taliban Commanders in Kunar
[ToloNews] Foreign forces' drone strike killed three Taliban capos, two Pak murderous Moslems and maimed five others in eastern Kunar province
... which is right down the road from Chitral. Kunar is Haqqani country.....
on Tuesday, officials said.

"Preliminary information showed that around midnight on Tuesday foreign forces drone attack killed Tahrik-e-Khurasan, an Afghan Taliban group and their two commanders," Kunar Police Chief Abdul Habib Sayedkhaili told TOLOnews.

In a separate drone attack on the same day in Nari district one Taliban capo including two Pak Talibs were killed.

"The Taliban capo named Qari Omid along with two Pak Talibans were killed on Tuesday around 3 p.m.," Sayedkhaili said.

According to officials, no civilians were maimed and no civilian property was damaged in the strike.

The foreign forces have not commented on the attack.

Sayedkhaili adds that on Tuesday a Taliban capo by the name of Noor Rahman has given up his weapons and ranks and has surrendered to the Afghan forces.

Taliban Attack ANSF Outposts in Logar Province
[ToloNews] Central Pashtun-infested Logar Provincial Governor Niaz Mohammad Amiri said nearly 700 Talibs attacked Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) outposts on Tuesday during the commemoration of the country's 95th Independence Day.

Amiri says that the Taliban had launched coordinated attacks on security forces and their outposts in different districts of Pashtun-infested Logar province on Independence Day.

The Taliban have not yet commented about the attack.

The planned attack comes after five Taliban Death Eaters were killed in an attack in Azra district of central Pashtun-infested Logar province on Sunday night.

Abdul Hakim Ishaqzai, Pashtun-infested Logar police chief, said hundreds of Taliban including foreign Death Eaters attacked Azra district and clashed with Afghan forces for hours.

During the clash, one Afghan police was injured.

"Our intelligence reports revealed that Pak, Chechen and Uzbek Death Eaters supported the Taliban Death Eaters wanting to take control of Azra district, but fled after clashing for five hours with Afghan forces," Ishaqzai said.

According to officials, the Death Eaters have taken control of the district several times, adding that the Death Eaters have used the location as a means to earn money by smuggling drugs. The district of Azra borders Pakistain.
Considerably more detail from Rooters, including background and a call-in from a Talib spokesman:
The fighting in Pashtun-infested Logar is a grim reminder of the insecurity plaguing Afghanistan as the foreign combat troops wind down their military operations ahead a deadline to leave the country by the end of the year.

Afghanistan's security arrangements beyond 2014 are unclear, as Kabul and Washington have yet to sign a bilateral security agreement designed to keep a small force of American soldiers in Afghanistan next year and into 2016.

Afghanistan's Caped President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
... A former Baltimore restaurateur, now 12th and current President of Afghanistan, displacing the legitimate president Rabbani in December 2004. He was installed as the dominant political figure after the removal of the Taliban regime in late 2001 in a vain attempt to put a Pashtun face on the successor state to the Taliban. After the 2004 presidential election, he was declared president regardless of what the actual vote count was. He won a second, even more dubious, five-year-term after the 2009 presidential election. His grip on reality has been slipping steadily since around 2007, probably from heavy drug use...
has refused to sign the agreement, although the two men vying to replace him have vowed to implement it immediately upon taking office. However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
four months after going to the polls, a winner in the presidential poll is still not clear.

The International Crisis Group said in a report earlier this year that the number of Islamist krazed killer attacks had increased by 15-20 percent in 2013 from a year earlier.

The krazed killers' success, however, has been limited. They have yet to capture an entire province, and the government says strategic assets remain broadly under its control.

Nevertheless, the mounting intensity of the Taliban's assaults poses an increasingly serious challenge to local security forces that have long relied on NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
support from the air.

Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban front man, said the bully boyz were battling Afghan forces from all sides to overrun the district. "The area is under siege and we have already taken over many security outposts and killed many Afghan forces," he told Rooters by telephone.

Libya Dawn opponents attack Sebha Muncipal Council
[Libya Herald] Attempts by representatives from Misrata, Gharyan, Zliten and Emsalata to persuade Sebha to join them in rejecting the House of Representatives and support the Misratan-Led "Libya's Dawn" operation have resulted in an attack on Sebha Municipal Council.

According to an official from the council, the talks went smoothly, with the council sympathetic to the requests. However,
the difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits...
yesterday evening an gang opposed to the Dawn operation stormed the council offices, causing panic among employees.

"Armed men said to be against the Dawn operation stormed the building and had gun sex, preventing officials in the municipality from reading a join-statement on Operation Dawn," the official told the Libya Herald.

The official, who asked not to be named, claimed that the attackers were members of the Awlad Sulaiman tribe which has been involved in numerous conflicts with other communities in Sebha over the past two years.

"The group who attacked the municipal council are Awlad Suleiman rustics who are aganist the Dawn operation. But they'll have no effect," he predicted.

The Awlad Suleiman have been involved in a number of festivities with Misrata's Third Force sent in January, along with Zintanis, to end fighting between the tribe and the Tebus and restore order in the town.

Both the Awlad Suleiman and the Tebus are now on the same side against Operation Dawn.

Islamic Youth carries out public execution in Derna
[Libya Herald] The Shura Council of Islamic Youth in Derna has killed an Egyptian man it accused of murder in what is reportedly the second public execution carried out by the group in the town.

A local resident, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
, told the Libya Herald that the executed man, identified as Egyptian national Mohammed Ahmed, had been accused of killing a Derna inhabitant, Khalid Al-Drisi. Drisi was killed in his house in Shail Al-Sharqi on Friday.

The resident said the execution took place at a football ground in western Derna. He added that the execution began at around 5 pm, just after Asr prayers.

The execution was the second such public killing in Derna. On 27 July, Islamic Youth put to death two men, one Egyptian and another Libyan, for an alleged murder.

This most recent killing has received wide-spread attention after a video of the proceedings was uploaded to the internet. The veracity of the video has been confirmed and shows one man, apparently Ahmed, killed by a single gunshot to the head.

He is surrounded by around 40 members of the Islamic Youth most of whom carry Kalashnikov rifles and wear face masks and military fatigues of one kind or another. One member holds the black flag of Al-Qaeda at the centre of proceedings.

There are a large number of spectators present in the stands at the football ground but they cannot be seen in the video. The execution is met with the sounds of chanting and applause.

The Shura Council of Islamic Youth in Derna rose to prominence in the town in early April after the amalgamation of three radical Islamist groups in the area including the Army of the Islamic State of Libya. The establishment of Islamic Youth started a power-struggle in Islamist dominated Derna with the group emerging in control of the town's court.

Nigeria: Boko Haram - Soldiers Disobey Deployment Order
[ALLAFRICA] A group of soldiers in the North East has been reported to be refusing to fight Boko Haram

gunnies until they are better equipped.

One of the soldiers, who requested anonymity, told the BBC that at least 40 of his colleagues would refuse orders to deploy.

Wives of some soldiers recently demonstrated at the army barracks in Borno State to protest deployment of their husbands to fight the Lions of Islam because, according to them, the Boko Haram group had better equipment than the Nigerian Army.

A state of emergency that was declared in three North Eastern states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe last year has failed to curb the insurgency.

"Soldiers are dying like fowl," the anonymous soldier, who said he and his colleagues were just outside Maiduguri, told the BBC Hausa service.

"The Nigerian Army is not ready to fight Boko Haram," he said, explaining that soldiers were not being given enough weapons and ammunition to take them on.

"Boko Haram are inside the bush, everywhere," he said, adding that "they (senior commanders) are sacrificing soldiers".

Even the vehicles the soldiers were expected to use were old armoured cars that were not up to the job, he added.

A General in the army, who asked not to be named, told the BBC that he was unable to confirm the mutiny, but said "cowardice" was not uncommon in times of war - and that any mutineers would be punished.

Chibok: Boko Haram Terrorists Vacate Sambisa Forest
[NIGERIANBULLETIN] There has been intense pressure on the sect members to free the over 200 teenage school girls, who have been in their custody for over 120 days.

Consequently, the murderous Moslems are believed to have vacated the Sambisa Forest for the lake Chad regions, due to heavy pressure mounted on them by the military.

A source told our correspondent that the bulk of the myrmidons, who were in the Sambisa Forest, had suddenly fizzled out to surrounding villages within the Lake Chad Basin.

According to him, "Our men have combed the entire Sambisa within our jurisdiction without seeing anything. We believe that they must have relocated to any of their several strongholds created over time, having declared a silent war on us.

Kuwait Arrests Suspected Qaida Financier
[AnNahar] A Kuwaiti, Hajjaj bin Fahd al-Ajmi, considered a financier of Al-Nusra Front, a Syrian rebel group linked to al-Qaeda, was jugged
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
Wednesday on his return from a visit to Qatar, activists said.

They said on Twitter that Ajmi, 26, was arrested at Kuwait airport.

The U.N. Security Council last Friday placed Ajmi and five other Islamists on an al-Qaeda sanctions list, imposing a travel ban and assets freeze.

They are accused of providing money, fighters and weapons to murderous Moslem groups.

In early August, the United States also imposed sanctions on Ajmi and two other Kuwaitis for allegedly raising money for Al-Nusra Front.

Kuwait responded by pledging its commitment to fighting terrorism and its funding.

#3  This funding goes way back. In the mid-nineteen eighties, given the Islamist revolution in Iran and jihad in Afghanistan, Islamist activists had a decided impact in the Gulf. Although it was officially banned in the region the Muslim Brotherhood's newspaper, Al Dawaa, circulated openly. Radicalization occurred thanks to funding from a combination of wealthy sheikhs and Muslim Brothers who resided in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
In the years that followed the Brothers who had infiltrated the Gulf banking sector continued to gave to jihadists, while the Brothers who infiltrated the education system were responsible for radicalizing many young men -- including many wealthy young men who even today give to Islamist causes.

Thousands of armed rebels flood Sanaa
[ARABNEWS] Thousands of armed Iranian catspaws in Yemen strengthened their positions in the capital Sanaa on Wednesday as they pressed their campaign to force the government to resign, AFP correspondents said.

The rebels have been fighting an on-and-off conflict with government troops in the northern mountains for the past decade but analysts warned their bid for a greater share of power in a promised new federal Yemen was creating a potentially explosive situation.

The Zaidi Shiites are the minority community in mainly Sunni Yemen but they form the majority in the northern highlands, including the Sanaa region.

Rebel activists used cranes to build walls around protest camps across the capital, where protest leaders have given the government a deadline of Friday to meet their demands.

In a bid to stem the crisis, President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi called for dialogue with the rebels and invited representatives to join a "unity government."

But the protests, fueled by a steep increase in petrol prices, are increasing in momentum with demonstrators showing no signs of backing down.

Rebel commander Abdulmalik Al-Huthi said on Sunday that the authorities must address protesters' grievances by the end of the week or additional forms of "legitimate action" would take place.

On Wednesday, men armed with Kalashnikovs manned checkpoints around the protest camps, while Yemeni military aircraft circled in the skies of the capital.

On the ground, there was little visible sign of a police or military presence near the makeshift protest sites.

"Our actions are peaceful but if the activists are attacked we will cut the hand of the aggressor," said Abu Ali Al-Asdi, a front man for the demonstrators.

"The resignation of the government is a popular demand and we are against all forms of corruption," he told AFP at a protest camp in west Sanaa.

There was also tension in the south of the capital where hundreds of gunnies had built a vast encampment close to the main road linking Sanaa to the south.

"The government will fall on Saturday," declared Mohammed Al-Hojari, an armed rebel stationed on the edge of the camp, where vehicles continued to bring protesters.

Concerned by the gravity of the situation, President Hadi held a meeting with representatives from political parties, the army, and civil bodies who agreed the rebels latest actions were "unacceptable," his adviser Fares Al-Saqqaf said.

A delegation is due to meet the rebels' leader Huthi in his northern fiefdom on Thursday when they will deliver a letter "inviting dialogue and encouraging them to join a unity government."

Yemen has been locked in a protracted transition since longtime strongman President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it...
was forced from power in February 2012 following a deadly uprising the previous year.

The Zaidi rebels, known as Huthis from the name of their leading family, are strongly opposed to the government's plans for a six-region federation, demanding a single region for the northern highlands and a bigger share of power in the federal government.

"The Huthis are capitalizing on widespread frustration with the government and the recent rise in fuel prices to rally support and extract political concessions," said April Longley Alley, a Yemen specialist with the International Crisis Group.

"What is happening now appears to be increasingly dangerous political bargaining as part of the Huthis' bid to become a dominant political force in the north and in the national government," she said.

The rebels control Saada province in the far north and parts of several neighboring provinces.

Rebel forces reached the outskirts of Sanaa in July after seizing the city of Amran to its north, although they later agreed to pull back.

Austria Arrests Nine Suspected of Seeking to Join Syria Jihad
[AnNahar] Nine people who had been given asylum in Austria have been jugged
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
on suspicion of seeking to join the jihadist opposition in Syria, the government said on Wednesday.

The arrests follow an investigation by the Austrian secret service, said Interior Minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner, without giving any information on the identity of the suspects.

If found guilty, the asylum status of the nine people will be revoked, the ministry said in a statement to local press agency APA, adding that it has "a zero tolerance policy" towards jihadists.

Austrian intelligence said in a June report that around 100 people have left the country to fight in Syria since the start of the civil war there.

The role of foreign jihadists in Syria and Iraq was highlighted by the release of a video late on Tuesday appearing to show the beheading of U.S. journalist James Foley by an Islamic State bully boy with an English accent.

A Little American Jihad: Suspect In Seattle Double Murder Linked To Fourth Homicide
[NBC-K5] The man suspected of killing two people in Seattle's Central District and a young woman in New Jersey is now the prime suspect in a fourth homicide.

Ali Muhammad Brown is currently in jail on $5 million bail for the alleged murder of a college student in late June.

Brown has already been charged with gunning down two men at 29th and King Street in Seattle's Leschi neighborhood on June 1.

Sources say King County prosecutors are about to charge him with another homicide, the drive-by shooting of Leroy Henderson, who was killed walking in Seattle's Skyway neighborhood on April 27. Brown was incarcerated

Multiple sources with knowledge of the investigation say Brown told police he carried out the murders because he was on a jihad to kill Americans.
Multiple sources with knowledge of the investigation say Brown told police he carried out the murders because he was on a jihad to kill Americans.

Henderson's father, also named Leroy, said his son had moved to Seattle from Gary, Indiana six months before his murder. He also indicated the King County Prosecutor's Office called him earlier Tuesday and said charges were planned for the following day.

At the scene of Henderson's murder, family members gathered to pay respects. Henderson's mother was also a murder victim thirty years before his death, and her killer was not found for two decades.

"We waited twenty years to find our mother's killer," said Henderson's sister Toninette Anderson, who lives in Skyway. "I kept on telling God, I don't want to wait another 20 years.

"I don't want to wait until I'm 57 to find out who killed my brother."

After the Leschi area murders in June, police launched an extensive search for Brown, a transient and Level One sex offender known to frequent south King County.

Five murdered in two incidents
[DAWN] LAHORE: Five people were killed and seven others were maimed in two incidents in the bustling provincial capital on Tuesday.

Three men, including two brothers, were killed and six others were maimed in an armed clash between rival groups at Badami Bagh.

City Division SP Asad Sarfraz told Dawn both the groups, led by Khalid Khan and Aamir Butt, were criminals and they used to inform police against each other's activities. He said the police had recently tossed in the slammer
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
five members of both the groups.

On the day of incident, the groups again levelled allegations against each other for providing information to police which had arrested their five members. They opened fire on each other which lasted for an hour, resulting in the killings.

Those killed were identified as Bilal Khan, 27, his brother Younis Khan, 25, and a passerby, Yasir of Faisalabad
...formerly known as Lyallpur, the third largest metropolis in Pakistain, the second largest in Punjab after Lahore. It is named after some Arab because the Paks didn't have anybody notable of their own to name it after...
. All the three persons was struck down in his prime.

According to police and hospital sources, Khalid Khan, his three brothers Mustafa Khan, Mujtaba Khan, Naseer Khan, and their rival Aamir Butt's brother Haris alias Raju Butt were among the injured. They all are out of danger.

Talking to Dawn, a member of the Khan group, Riaz Khan, denied the reports that the arrests were behind the clash, claiming the clash had taken place due to a minor scuffle between the children of the two parties.

He said he along with his cousins was sitting in the street when Aamir Butt and his 15 accomplices appeared there and opened indiscriminate fire on them.

"Later, a Panchayat was held to resolve the matter and both the groups agreed for a reconciliation," Riaz Khan said.

In another incident, a factory employee was allegedly rubbed out along with his friend in the name of honour at Gujjarpura.

Nadeem, 28, had contracted a court marriage with one of the suspect, Abdul Razzaq's sister some six months ago. However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
he divorced his wife on the decision of Panchayat three months back and Razzaq nurtured a grudge against him.

Quoting the victim's family, police said Razzaq and his four armed accomplices, including Shani, barged in the factory where Nadeem worked and opened indiscriminate fire. Nadeem, his friend Abdul Rehman and factory owner Ali Ejaz were maimed. Nadeem and his friend died on way to hospital while the condition of Ali was stated to be critical.

The police shifted the bodies to morgue and started the paperwork but haven't done much else against the suspects.

Three policemen killed in 'tit-for-tat attacks'
[DAWN] Three coppers were bumped off in the Quaidabad and Ittehad Town areas on Tuesday in what police described as tit-for-tat attacks launched by suspected murderous Moslems to avenge the killing of their comrades in encounters.

Officials said two of the three coppers were rubbed out in Quaidabad hours after the killing of a murder suspect in an encounter in the same area. And the third policeman was bumped off in Ittehad Town, where law-enforcers had killed two suspected murderous Moslems in an encounter on Monday night.

They said that Azhar Abbas, 37, and Azam Khan, 36, head constable and constable, respectively, reached the post office in Quaidabad's Gul Ahmed Colony to perform their duty at 9am. They were parking their cycle of violence when four gunnies riding two cycle of violences emerged there, two of them got off the two-wheelers and opened fire on the coppers, said Quaidabad DSP Ghulam Nabi Wago.

They sustained serious bullet wounds and were moved to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors declared them dead.

The assailants also took away their official sub-machine guns.

The Quaidabad DSP said that the targeted attack could be a reaction of the killing of a suspected gangster, Saeed Qadir alias Syeda, in an encounter in Majeed Colony, Quaidabad at around 4am.

The dead man was allegedly involved in the Aug 12 killing of Assistant Sub-Inspector Jamil in Quaidabad, as the slain ASI had played an important role in his arrest. He was allegedly involved in around 45 criminal cases, including murders and robberies, and was recently enlarged on bail.

However,

SSP-Malir Rao Anwar said that the coppers were targeted by suspected myrmidons.

He added that the police recently took action against the murderous Moslems who were targeting them. "We have got significant clues to the identification of the murderous Moslems involved in the incident and hopefully they would be taken to task soon," he said.

In the Ittehad Town area, a 37-year-old police constable, Tahir Mehmood, was targeted when he was on his way to the Mohammad Khan Colony post on his motorbike to perform his duty.

The police said that the constable was in civilian dress when he was targeted at a desolate place, which was surrounded by the bushes. He sustained a single bullet wound in the head, they added.

The murder came after the killing of two suspected murderous Moslems of the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain in an encounter in the same area on Monday night. Police believed that one of them was allegedly involved in the recent killing of the caretaker of an Imambargah

FC personnel foil two major terror bids in Balochistan
[DAWN] Frontier Corps (FC) personnel foiled a terror bid on Wednesday during raids in Quetta and Dalbandin in the southwestern province of Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
Speaking to media representatives, Home Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfaraz Bugti said security forces had received a tip off regarding the presence of arms and ammunition and conducted operations in the two areas.

"Miscreants wanted to carry out major terror activities in Balochistan," Bugti said.

"Security personnel are interrogating the detained suspects," he said.

A huge cache of arms and ammunition was dumped underground in a compound which was recovered during the operation in Quetta.

Meanwhile,

PAT supporter dies in Gujranwala jail under mysterious circumstances
[DAWN] A Pakistain Awami Tehrik (PAT) supporter detained in the recent police crackdown in Punjab died on Wednesday under mysterious circumstances in the central jail of Gujranwala city.
"Stabbed hisself in the forehead with a butcher knife. I seen it!"
The 35-year-old Shoaib was a resident of the Noor Bawa area of Gujranwala and had left home on the eve of August 13 to attend the march following which he was detained. His family had however claimed that he went missing.

The relatives said that they searched for Shoaib following his disappearance but could not get any news of his whereabouts.

His family members moreover said that they were informed on Tuesday night about Shoaib's death by the central jail's administration in Gujranwala.

Subsequently, jail authorities handed the body to Shoaib's family after conducting a postmortem. A report of the post mortem is still to come.

Police sources claim he died due to a heart attack. However,
the man who has no enemies isn't anybody and has never done anything...
his brother said that Shoaib was subjected to torture during his detention leading to his death.

Previously, the Punjab police had rounded up over 300 PAT activists across Punjab in the week-long crackdown under the 16 Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance.

Iraq
U.N. Launches Aid Operation for 500,000 in Northern Iraq
[AnNahar] The U.N. refugee agency said it had launched a huge operation Wednesday to bring desperately needed aid to half a million Iraqis driven from their homes by jihadist rebels.

"It's the largest single aid push we have mounted in more than a decade," UNHCR chief Antonio Guterres said in a statement.

The first Boeing 747 of the 10-day operation flew into the Iraqi Kurdish city of Arbil from Jordan carrying 100 tonnes of aid including tents, plastic sheets, kitchen sets, and jerry cans.

It was the first consignment in an operation that aims at bringing a total of in 2,410 tonnes of aid by the start of September.

Three other flights were due to leave Jordan on Thursday, Friday and Saturday carrying 100 tonnes each.

Aid was also on its way by road and sea, with 175 trucks bringing tents, blankets, plastic tarpaulins, and household items across borders from Turkey, Jordan and Iran from UNHCR warehouses in the region and Europe.

"This is a massive logistics operation to bring in relief supplies by air, land, and sea to help the hundreds of thousands of desperate people who have fled suddenly with nothing but their lives, and are now struggling to survive in harsh conditions," said Guterres.

The goal, the agency said, is to help almost 500,000 displaced people in the region, many of whom are crammed into unfinished buildings, living in parks or by the roadside.

Jihadists from the Islamic State group which had already occupied parts of Syria launched an offensive in Iraq in June and rapidly seized much of its Sunni heartland.

They have declared a "caliphate" in a region straddling the Iraq-Syria border, and have taken Iraq to the brink of breakup.

Many of those fleeing have found a haven in Iraq's Kurdistan region, whose fighters have provided a bulwark against the jihadists.

The UNHCR said Kurdistan was hosting over 600,000 internally displaced civilians, among them more than 200,000 people who have fled the flashpoint Sinjar area since the beginning of this month.

They include members of Iraq's Christian and Yazidi religious minorities, whom the jihadists have given a "convert or die" option.

Across Iraq, an estimated 1.2 million people have been displaced so far in 2014, including over 500,000 who fled fighting in the Anbar region which erupted in January.

Iran Giving 'Advice' to Iraq Kurds Battling IS Jihadists
[AnNahar] Iran is providing advice to Iraqi Kurds fighting Islamic State jihadists, Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said Wednesday.

"We have given help with policy and advice to the Iraq government. We have acted in the same manner to Iraqi Kurdistan," Amir-Abdollahian told the Arabic service of state television

Tehran has no military presence in Baghdad, nor in the Shiite shrine city of Samarra to its north nor the Kurdish region of Iraq, he added.

"We have not sent weapons either, but we have given advice and shared our experiences," Amir-Abdollahian said.

Foreign ministry front man Marzieh Afkham said talks were also under way with some European countries.

"Iran has begun discussions with European countries about the danger from terrorism and takfiri

's statement on cooperation with Iran against Islamic State (IS).

Amir-Abdollahian accused the United States of doing nothing to halt "the flow of capital" to jihadist groups in neighboring Syria, while Washington "monitors the tiniest Iranian petrodollar through the international banking system."

These groups "sell and buy weapons in Syria and with the help of certain countries in the region... sell between $3 and $7 million of petrol every day," the deputy minister alleged.

IS and its Sunni allies have overrun large chunks of Iraq and Syria, and have declared a cross-border caliphate -- a successor state to historic Moslem empires.

US jets strike ISIL militants in Iraq
[Iran Press TV] The United States says it has conducted at least 14 Arclight airstrikes against ISIL Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
gunnies in northern Iraq over the past 24 hours.

US defense officials in Washington said on Wednesday the Arclight airstrikes were conducted in areas where a US air campaign has targeted ISIL forces who are threatening civilian refugees and the Kurdish regional capital Erbil.

The Arclight airstrikes came after ISIL released a gruesome video Tuesday showing US journalist James Foley being beheaded by krazed killers.

The video shows a black-masked ISIL krazed killer beheading Foley in retaliation for US Arclight airstrikes against the group in Iraq. The video also warned that the group would slay kidnapped American journalist Steven Sotloff if the US president did not halt the Arclight airstrikes.

However,

President Barack Obama
I am not a dictator!...
said that the US will continue to do what it must do to protect Americans.

"When people harm Americans anywhere, we do what's necessary to see that justice is done and we act against ISIL standing alongside others," Obama said.

ISIL, which controls parts of Syria, sent its fighters into neighboring Iraq in June and quickly seized large swaths of territory straddling the border between the two countries.

On Thursday, US counterterrorism officials told news hounds that new strategies are urgently needed to counter the surging ISIL threat.

"We're seeing an expansion of its external terrorist ambitions," one US counterterrorism official said. "As its capabilities grow, it has attracted thousands of foreign Death Eaters — some of whom are going home to start cells. As it carves out territory [in Iraq], it wants to go beyond that and do attacks outside."
An Nahar adds:
Since Tuesday, U.S. drones and fighter jets destroyed or damaged six IS Humvees, three sites for improvised bombs, one mortar tube and two armed trucks, U.S. Central Command said.

The latest air raids brought to 84 the number conducted since August 8. Of those, 51 were in support of Iraqi forces near djinn-infested Mosul

dam, now under the control of Iraqi and Kurdish security forces.

The command said the latest strikes served to "further expand" Iraqi and Kurdish control of the area.

"These strikes were conducted under authority to support Iraqi security forces and Kurdish defense force operations, as well as to protect critical infrastructure, U.S. personnel and facilities, and support humanitarian efforts," it added.

US military failed to free Americans from ISIL in Syria: Pentagon
[Iran Press TV] The US military says it "recently" attempted an air and ground operation to rescue American hostages held by ISIL holy warriors in Syria, but failed to find them.

"This operation involved air and ground components and was focused on a particular captor network within ISIL," Pentagon front man Rear Admiral John Kirby said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

"Unfortunately, the mission was not successful because the hostages were not present at the targeted location," Kirby added.

The revelation came a day after ISIL released a gruesome video showing US journalist James Foley being beheaded by turbans.

Hamas warns foreign airlines as Israel declares talks over
[ARABNEWS] The armed wing of Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, warned foreign airlines against flying into Tel Aviv on Wednesday and declared truce talks in Cairo over as a six-week war with Israel spirals into further bloodshed.

Israeli warplanes carried out dozens of air strikes across Gazoo again on Wednesday in response to multiple rocket attacks on southern Israel, as nine days of calm went kaboom! into bloodshed.

Several thousand furious mourners poured onto the streets of Jabaliya refugee camp to bury the wife and infant son of the top commander of Hamas's armed wing, baying for Dire Revenge™.

Mohammed Deif, who has topped Israel's most wanted list for more than a decade, escaped the liquidation attempt, Hamas said.

Israel, which had carried out five previous attempts on Deif's life, said its offensive in Gazoo would continue until the security of Israelis was guaranteed.

At least 2,049 Paleostinians and 67 people on the Israeli side have now been killed since the conflict began on July 8, more than 20 of those Paleostinians since fighting resumed late Tuesday.

"We are warning international airlines and press them to stop flying into Ben Gurion airport from 6 a.m. (0300 GMT)," the front man of the Hamas armed wing, Abu Obeida, said in a televised speech.

Last month, many international airlines briefly suspended flights into Tel Aviv after a Hamas rocket struck close to the airport.

Israeli airstrikes claim more lives in Gaza
[Iran Press TV] More Paleostinians, including women and kiddies, are killed or injured as the Israeli regime renews its Arclight airstrikes on the besieged Gazoo Strip.

The number of Gazooks killed during Tuesday and Wednesday amounts to approximately 30 with at least eight children among the dead, according to medical officials.

More than 120 others are said to have been maimed in the past two days' onslaught.

The heaviest corpse counts were reported from Arclight airstrikes on mosques and refugee camps.

Tel Aviv's recent attacks have been focusing on the Zeytoun neighborhood in eastern, Rafah in southern, and Deir al-Balah in western Gazoo.

The Israeli military said it targeted 60 locations in the war-stricken sliver.

Israeli warplanes and tanks have been pounding the blockaded enclave since early July, inflicting heavy losses on the Paleostinian land.

At least 2,049 people, mostly civilians, have bit the dust and more than 10,200 have been injured despite pressure from the international community on the Tel Aviv regime to end aggression against Paleostinians.

Israeli Fire Kills 31 in Gaza as Hamas Warns Foreign Airlines, Declares Truce Talks Over
[AnNahar] Thirty-one Paleostinians have been killed and at least 120 maimed by Israeli strikes across Gazoo since the collapse of a temporary truce, the emergency services said Wednesday.

And the armed wing of Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, warned foreign airlines against flying into Tel Aviv, threatening to step up its six-week conflict with Israel and declaring truce talks in Cairo over.

"We are warning international airlines and press them to stop flying into Ben Gurion airport from 6 am (0300 GMT) Thursday," said Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades front man Abu Obeida in a televised speech.

Dressed in military fatigues with his face wrapped in a red and white chequered headscarf, he said Hamas was abandoning efforts to negotiate a durable ceasefire with Israel at Egyptian-brokered talks.

"We are calling on the Paleostinian delegation to withdraw immediately from Cairo and not to return," said Abu Obeida in a speech broadcast on Hamas's Al-Aqsa TV channel.

"There will be no return to talks after today and any move in this direction will never achieve any result," he added.

"The enemy lost a golden chance to reach a ceasefire with limited demands, for which it will pay after today."

And Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the leaders of "terrorist organizations" are legitimate targets and warned that "no one is immune from our fire".

"Our policy is the following: if Hamas fires, we will hit back with more force and if they don't understand today, they will understand tomorrow and if not tomorrow then after tomorrow," Netanyahu said.

The wife and seven-month-old son of the Qassam Brigades' commander Mohammed Deif were killed in an Israeli air strike on a building in Gazoo City late Tuesday, but Hamas said Deif was still alive.

"The Zionist enemy failed to assassinate general commander Abu Khaled," said the front man, using Deif's nom de guerre.

Also among those killed on Wednesday were three women, one of them heavily pregnant, and nine children. That number includes the woman's unborn baby, whom medics tried but ultimately failed to save, he said.

Two cousins, Mohammed al-Abeet, 16, and Saher al-Abeet, 11, were killed in an air strike on a house in Deir al-Balah in central Gazoo, Qudra said.

The violence resumed at around 1300 GMT on Tuesday when three rockets struck southern Israel with the air force hitting back with strikes which continued through the night and into Wednesday.

The first deadly strike killed Deif's second wife, Widad, 27, and his seven-month-old son Ali.

Rescue workers on Wednesday also pulled the bodies of a 48-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy from the rubble, Qudra said.

Shortly before dawn, an air strike hit a home in Deir al-Balah in central Gazoo, killing eight, among them the pregnant woman, her unborn baby, three children and three men.

Later in the morning, another child, aged four, was killed along with a man in his 20s in a strike on Zeitun in southern Gazoo City, Qudra said.

Four other men were killed in three separate strikes, two of whom died when a missile hit their cycle of violence in the northern town of Beit Lahiya. At their funeral, both were wrapped in green Hamas flags, indicating they were holy warriors.

Separately a man also died of injuries sustained earlier in the conflict, which erupted on July 8.

At least 2,049 Paleostinians and 67 people on the Israeli side have now been killed since the conflict began on July 8,
...according to my calculator that's a ratio of 30.58 Gazans to 1 Israeli (counting that Thai migrant worker for the Israeli team)...
more than 20 of those Paleostinians since fighting resumed late Tuesday.

Army figures show that since the truce collapsed, Gazoo Death Eaters have fired 137 rockets over the border, of which 94 hit southern and central Israel while another 24 were shot down.

In the same period, the army hit 92 targets across Gazoo, a spokeswoman said.

On the Israeli side, 67 people have died, including 64 soldiers killed in combat and three civilians killed by rocket fire - one of them a Thai national.

The army says five of the soldiers were killed by "friendly fire".

The U.N. says around three-quarters of the victims in Gazoo are civilians.
Yes, but the UN is getting its information from Hamas, and Hamas has been shown to lie about it. The number might be true, but about half of them are the foot soldiers of Hamas and other terror groups.
Sixty-four of the Israeli dead were soldiers.

Egyptian mediators scrambled for weeks to push the warring sides to agree a decisive end to the bloodshed, but their latest attempts collapsed on Tuesday when the fighting resumed.

Several thousand angry mourners joined the funeral procession for Deif's 27-year-old wife and seven-month-old son in the Jabaliya refugee camp, shouting "Allahu Akbar" (God is greatest) and demanding Dire Revenge™.

Deif heads Hamas's armed wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, which vowed to open the "gates of hell" on Israel in retaliation for the killings.

Shortly after the funeral, Hamas said Deif was alive and directing operations against Israel.

"Those living around the Gazoo border will not return home until Mohammed Deif decides," Hamas front man Sami Abu Zuhri
...a senior spokesman for Hamas. Zuhri gained notoriety in 2006 when he dropped his money belt containing somewhere between 640,000 and 900,000 euros, which was confiscated by Paleostinian security and customs officials at a routine border crossing from Egypt to Gaza. The news brought competing Hamas and Fatah forces to the crossing checkpoint for an epic face-making and hollering contest...
said.

"Abu Khaled is still alive and leading the military operation," a source close to the Islamist movement told AFP, using Deif's nom-de-guerre.

Israel's Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman agreed that Hamas was dictating the pace of the conflict, calling for military action to overpower the movement.

"This policy of 'quiet for quiet' effectively means that Hamas is the initiator and the one deciding when, where and how to shoot at Israeli citizens," he wrote on his Facebook page.

"Hamas is controlling the height of the flames and chooses when to disturb life for people in Israel," he said.

"There is no other option other than decisive action with one meaning - toppling Hamas."

The mourners, firing Kalashnikovs, buried Widad and her son Ali, who died alongside another woman and a teenager when a missile slammed into a six-storey building in Gazoo City late on Tuesday.

It was the first deadly air strike August 10.

Their bodies were wrapped in green Hamas flags and they were carried to the cemetery with the bodies of two men killed in a strike on a cycle of violence, both presumed Hamas holy warriors.

Grief-stricken, Widad's father Mustafa Harb Asfura carried his tiny grandson into the mosque then to the cemetery, his body wrapped in a white sheet exposing his white face with an injury to the eye.

"My daughter knew she would die a martyr when she decided to marry Mohammed Deif," he told AFP.

In Israel, Interior Minister Gideon Saar justified the attack, calling Deif -- who has escaped five previous liquidation attempts -- a legitimate target.

"Mohammed Deif deserves to die just like (the late al-Qaeda leader Osama) bin Laden. He is an arch murderer and as long as we have an opportunity we will try to kill him," Saar told army radio.

#1  the UN is getting its information from Hamas, and Hamas has been shown to lie about it.

IMO, the UN is perfectly able to invent lies on their own.

Liveblogging Israel-Gaza Active Conflict: Day 45
Thursday, August 20, the 45th day of Operation Protective Edge. Hamas breached a truce on Tuesday afternoon and fired some 200 rockets at Israel through Tuesday and Wednesday. The Cairo ceasefire talks are over for now. Hamas is vowing more attacks Thursday, after Israel tried to kill its military chief Mohammad Deif in an air strike that killed his wife and son. Netanyahu vowed Wednesday to hit back "seven times as hard" at Hamas attacks, and said all military options were open.
below that summary:
- More speculation on Deif's fate
- Hamas biggie in Turkey now takes credit for murder of 3 Yeshiva students back in July (for several weeks lefties have tried to use the 'Hamas didn't do it' narrative on this)

Hamas political leaders fair targets, says general

After Israel kills three senior Hamas military commanders, Gen. Yoav Mordechai, responsible for the government’s activities in the West Bank and Gaza, says on Sky News Arabic that “no one from Hamas’s leadership will enjoy immunity — not at the political level or the military level,” according to Ynet. “All of Hamas’s leadership is in the Shifa Hospital. ” There will be no negotiations under fire, he adds. “We have nothing against the people in Gaza. If only Gaza would become Singapore; but Mashaal and Haniyeh want to turn it into Somalia.”

So, is Israel saying Shifa Hospital will be hit soon? Interesting. What about the coward hiding in Qatar?

Plans for a second Zamboanga City seige confirmed
Eleven months after the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) September 2013 bloody siege in Zamboanga City, the police confirmed another attack is looming even as half of about 120,000 evacuated residents have yet to return to their homes.

Police chief Angelito Casimiro said "these threats include possible bombings of gasoline stations, restaurants and other highly vulnerable areas as well as kidnappings of some prominent residents and businessmen," but asasured the city that security measures have been put in place.

He said Abu Sayyaf member Abbo Jomar was arrested in Barangay Upper Calarian with components for an improvised explosive device about to be assembled. Jomar's group is allegedly working with cells in Sulu and Basilan with members deployed in several towns in North Cotabato.

Casimiro said another siege is meant to derail the peace process that the Philippine government is undertaking with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). He said, "There are some sectors that are not satisfied with the ways this process is being done while others disagree with the government's effort of reaching for peace in the entire Mindanao, the country's second largest island region."

Meanwhile, he dismissed rumors about an alleged massing up of armed men in coastal villages of the city's eastern area as part of the second MNLF assault. He said, "I call on all residents not to fall prey on this kind of messages because your police and military men of Task Force Zamboanga (TFZ) are always on the guard."
Now there's journalistic efficiency: MNLF, Abu Sayyaf, and MILF all in the same article.

IS Steps up Attack on Last Syria Army Bastion in Raqa
[AnNahar] Syrian troops battled Wednesday to hold onto their last stronghold in the northern province of Raqa, under fierce attack from Islamic State jihadists, a monitoring group said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said IS fighters had been attacking Tabqa military airport for around 10 days, but the fighting overnight from Tuesday was the heaviest yet.

At least six jihadists have been killed in the fighting, which has involved medium and heavy weaponry as well as government air raids.

The air force carried out 15 raids Wednesday around Tabqa, sending hundreds of residents into flight.

Tabqa airport is the last remaining stronghold of Syrian troops in Raqa province, which has been largely overrun by IS fighters.

The bully boy group controls the historic provincial capital, which was captured by other rebel groups in March 2013 but later seized by IS.

In early August, it captured the key Brigade 93 army base in Raqa, not long after taking the military's Division 17, where at least 85 people were killed in fighting or summarily executed.

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Kurdish fighters clashed with IS gunnies in Hasakeh province in northeastern Syria, the Observatory said.

It said IS seized control Tuesday of Jazza village near the Iraqi border in fighting that killed 10 Kurdish combatants and four jihadists.

The latest IS advances in Raqa and Aleppo province, also in northern Syria, have prompted the Syrian government to launch intensive air strikes against IS for the first time.

Rebel groups have often accused the regime of avoiding attacks on IS because the Sunni bully boy group has battled more moderate rebel forces.

The IS emerged from the Iraqi affiliate of al-Qaeda but has since rejected its leadership.

It initially worked alongside other rebel groups in Syria, but they turned against it because of its abuses and its bid to dominate seized territory.

But it continues to draw recruits, and on Twitter its supporters expressed delight about the attack on the Tabqa base.

"The lions of the Islamic State have announced a war without mercy. It is time to cut of the heads of the Nussayris," one supporter tweeted, using a pejorative term for Alawites, an offshoot of Shiite Islam to which Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
