Champ's Top Healthcare Nominee Was Once Embroiled in Medical Fraud Case
[Daily Caller] Andy Slavitt -- President Obama's choice to manage Obamacare, Medicare and Medicaid -- was linked seven years ago to a massive medical data fraud scheme that resulted in what was then the largest settlement ever by an insurance company.

If he is confirmed by the Senate, Slavitt will head the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, which manages the federal government's three biggest health care programs. He will manage an estimated $1 trillion in benefits that are paid to millions of doctors, patients and hospitals.

Slavitt was CEO of Ingenix, a health data analytics firm at the center of a $50 million settlement in 2009 with then-New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and a $350 million settlement with the American Medical Association.

Cuomo and the AMA charged that Ingenix supplied databases to insurance companies that fraudulently calculated reimbursements for out-of-network medical services provided to policyholders, according to a Daily Caller News Foundation investigation.

Widows battle for palatial home in Mombasa despite court order
[Standard Digital (Kenya)] The succession battle over the multi-billion-shilling estate of slain Mombasa tycoon Shahid Butt escalated after the Court of Appeal in Malindi on Friday ordered one of the widows, Akhtar, to vacate his palatial residence in Mkomani.

The order sparked off violence between the warring parties as they went for each other's throats over who was entitled to the palatial residence, which both widows claim.

The bitter court dispute erupted following Butt's murder by unknown gunmen in Mombasa last year.

Akhtar moved into the Mkomani home where the deceased had been living with his German wife Regine.

Despite separation from Butt, Akhtar' son Haroon and his wife lived in the same house with Regine but this changed rapidly following the murder.

Haroon allegedly invited Akhtar into the home after his father's death and evicted Regine sparking the current dispute but in June, the High Court ordered both widows to live together pending the outcome of the matter.

Akhtar went to the Court of Appeal in Malindi seeking orders to evict Regine and assume full ownership of the house. But Akhtar lost the battle and the Court of Appeal ordered her to leave the house immediately.

On Saturday an attempt by Regine to re-enter the house sparked violence between rival parties. Regine and her lawyer George Miyare were arrested after the fracas but were later released. Mr Miyare accused police, who were called by Haroon to stop Regine's entourage from taking over the house, of siding with Akhtar and her son.

Massive sand storm swallows Amman, flights diverted to Ben Gurion
It is during the summer in the MidEast when Death gathers the biggest harvest.
[Ynet] Extreme weather patterns and strong winds whipped the Jordanian desert sands across the country, causing near blackout conditions in the nation's capital.
Pictures and video at the link.
The extreme heat felt throughout Israel on Sunday is affecting the entire region as a whole, with one of the weather's hardest hit victims being Israel's neighbor to the east, Jordan.

The strong winds whipping across the kingdom's desert plains caused massive sand storms, forcing changes in the country's air traffic patterns.

The storm prevented flights from landing at Amman International Airport, sending two Royal Jordanian flights to land at Israel's Ben Gurion International Airport. Flights operated by other Arab carriers, which cannot land in Israel, were diverted to Aqaba.

The heavy heat wave hitting the region has spurred calls for a national holiday in Jordan. Concurrently, several areas in the country reportedly experienced rain.

#2  The captain of a Syrian airliner gets on his radio and declares an emergency: "Mayday, this is Syrian Air, Flight 174, we have lost an engine and need to land at any airport in the Mideast OTHER than Israel."

No answer.

A short while later he announces, "Mayday, mayday, this is Syrian Air, Flight 174 again. We have now lost TWO engines and ask permission to land at any airport in the mid-east OTHER than Israel."

Still no answer from anyone.

A while later the pilot calls out, "Mayday, mayday, mayday! This is Syrian Air, Flight 174. We are desperately in need of help. We are losing another engine and need permission to land at any airport in the mid-east OTHER than Israel!"

Still no answer from anyone.

Finally, the Captain calls, "Help! This is Syrian Airliner, flight 174, we have only one engine left and it is rapidly failing! Unless we can land we are going to crash. We need permission to land at ANY airport in the mid-east, INCLUDING Israel!"

Shortly thereafter, a voice is heard in the Syrian airplane cockpit:

"This is Ben Gurion air traffic control calling Syrian Air, flight 174. We hear you have a problem."

"Allah bless you," replies the Syrian pilot. "What should we do?"

Air traffic control responded, "Repeat after me: Yisgadal, v'yisgadash . . . ."

Giant, hungry snails are eating the stucco off houses in Florida
[BUSINESSINSIDER] Florida plant detectives are on the trail of a slippery foe, an invasive African land snail that is wily, potentially infectious, and can grow as big as a tennis shoe.
We seen dis movie...
In the four years since Giant African Snails were discovered in Miami, they have slowly but surely spread to new territory, alarming residents in the southern suburbs and the neighboring county of Broward.
I really liked the part where all the people were fighting to get out of Fort Lauderdale...
Their slimy tracks have led agricultural experts on an odyssey of discovery about animal behavior, folk religion, and the precise amount of chemicals and cash it takes to kill the world's biggest gastropods.
... so then the second banana sez something like "I'll take that with a grain of salt!" and the hero sez "Murphy! That's it!" and then the Air Force drops all these salt bombs, and the hero rescues the girl...
Movie doesn't end until the hero gets to kiss the pretty girl...
Since 2011, Florida has spent $10.8 million on the Giant African Snail eradication program, according to state agriculture department front man Mark Fagan.
... and they go walking off into the sunset past all these empty snail shells that are as big as houses...

Metal debris found on island not from MH370: officials
[ABC.NET.AU] A piece of metal debris found on an island in the Indian Ocean over the weekend is not from missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, officials have confirmed.

Investigators took the debris into evidence on the island of La Reunion, where a Boeing 777 wing part believed to belong to the plane washed up last week.

However, nothing indicated the piece of metal came from the airplane and it has reportedly been discounted as part of a ladder.

Former Burundi intelligence chief killed in Bujumbura
[AA.TR] General Adolphe Nshimirimana, Burundi's former army chief-of-staff and intelligence chief, was assassinated on Sunday by unknown assailants in Bujumbura's Kamenge district, according to local sources.

"Nshimirimana's car was struck by several rockets and grenades," Willy Nyamitwetold, an advisor to President Pierre Nkurunziza, told Anadolu Agency.

Eyewitnesses, meanwhile, told Anadolu Agency that the assailants "wore army uniforms and targeted the former general's car with three rockets."

Burundi has been rocked by protest since April, when the ruling party named Nkurunziza -- in power since 2005 -- its candidate for the presidency.

Last month, Nkurunziza won a third presidential term in a controversial poll boycotted by the opposition, which says he lacks the constitutional right to sit for a third term in office.

Since anti-Nkurunziza demonstrations erupted in April, over 100 people have reportedly been killed countrywide, while tens of thousands have fled the violence to neighboring countries.

The Chagos Islands 40 years on remain a black mark on Britain
[OurKingdon] By 1973, the entire indigenous population of the Chagos Islands was forcibly deported to Mauritius, to make way for a US military base. This month marks the fortieth anniversary of an outrage committed under wraps by the British, still fighting to prevent the return of the Chagossians.
Yes, a very dated article [April 2012], but with Diego Garcia appearing in the news from time to time, perhaps a bit of history might be instructive. A 'black mark' yes, but possibly not just on our cousins.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Tatars call for intervention in Crimea
[AA.TR] Crimean Tatars called for "international intervention" against the Russian occupation of their homeland on Sunday.

In a statement issued at the end of a two-day meeting in Turkish capital Ankara, the forum of 184 Tatar groups from 12 countries said the freedoms and rights of their compatriots "forced to live under Russian occupation... must be ensured under the supervision of international institutions and prompt and robust international intervention must be made."

Russia annexed the Crimea from Ukraine in March last year in the aftermath of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych's overthrow. The UN has declared the referendum that led to the annexation illegal and the international community largely recognizes Crimea as part of Ukraine. The EU, the U.S. and other countries imposed sanctions on Russia following the annexation.

A statement from the Second World Crimean Tatars Congress added that the annexation "cannot be accepted under any circumstances. All necessary measures must be taken to restore Ukraine's territorial integrity."

The group also called for "those who acted with a view to annihilating the Crimean Tatar people" to be brought to justice, as well as for the payment of reparations.

It demanded that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
"strictly apply sanctions on Russia".

China-Japan-Koreas
NKorea strengthening border artillery
[AA.TR] North Korea has strengthened its border to cope with a counterattack from the south in the event of war, according to a Seoul government source Sunday -- suggesting there may be substance behind Pyongyang's aggressive rhetoric.

Previously South Korea and its ally the United States were thought to be able to annihilate North Korean artillery batteries within three minutes of a conflict breaking out.

North and South Korea have maintained an uneasy truce since 1953 -- thousands of troops still surround a demilitarized zone at their border.

The South Korean government source, cited by local news agency Yonhap, explained that "changes have been detected in the shape of the bunkers for self-propelled guns, which belong to artillery units of the North's 4th Corps in Hwanghae Province."

North Korea's decision to shift the entrances of the bunkers to face north means that South Korea and the U.S. would have to attempt to nullify the artillery batteries from the air -- risking aircraft and personnel.

South Korea's capital Seoul and its heavily-populated surrounding region is within range of the North's howitzers, which were involved in the fatal shelling of Yeonpyeong Island in 2010.

Memories of that surprise attack, along with Pyongyang's repeated war threats, have placed the South on alert.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Blind, stubborn ideology, gross incompetence caused capitulation to Iranian totalitarian theocracy
Lengthy article by Dr. Issac Yetiv. Bluf:
[Kanuk Free Press] Even before the negotiations for the "nuclear deal, "he [Kerry] lobbied to have the sanctions against Iran removed; he took political contributions from Iranian-Americans connected with Tehran; and even on the personal side, his daughter married an Iranian and the best man was no other than the son of the Iranian foreign minister with whom he later negotiated the (in)famous deal. And the two negotiators met a decade ago at the house of George Soros, another anti-American and anti-Israel extreme leftist.

It looks as if the president and his secretary of state are on a mission to praise, protect and defend their enemies, to despise and punish their allies, and to diminish America.

How they could get away with it?

#9  The big problem is that Kerry's policy that is rightly criticized is the consensus policy of the Western political class.

Some examples in no particular order:

Jeb Bush has all but admitted that he supports the Iran deal. John McCain and Lindsey Graham ran interference for the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

Graham said that he'd like to impose Sharia on Americans in order to appease totalitarian theocrats.

Congressional Republicans are hiding behind failure theater to conceal their support for the Iran deal.

Post-9/11 liberated Afghanistan is a non-Irananian totalitarian theocracy run by 'moderate' 'ex'-Taliban where ideological deviation carries the death penalty.

The Bush administration and the Iraq coalition passively absorbed openly carried out Iranian acts of military aggression.
etc etc etc

Provocative weakness plus political appeasement and submission has been Western consensus policy for many years. The results have proven disastrous.

ALso read, THE US CONGRESS WOULD BE INSANE TO FORMALLY THE NEW NUKE DEAL.
