Kerry Checked By Security Before Meeting Egypt's President
Egyptian security officers checked U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and his top aides with a metal detector as they arrived for a meeting on Tuesday with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, an unusual screening for a senior State Department official.

Foreign officials usually extend every courtesy to Washington's top diplomat.
Nobody wants him, nobody invited him. And he and his boss are too obtuse focussed on their own objectives to notice.

Libya announces election results
[MAGHAREBIA] Libya's electoral commission on Monday (July 21st) announced the results of the June 25th parliamentary poll, Libya Herald reported.

The final make-up of the 200-seat House of Representatives will only be known after the formation of political blocs.

Liberals are expected to fill most seats in the new parliament, unlike the former assembly, which was dominated by Islamists.

"According to my estimates, the Islamists have not won more than 30 seats," Benghazi deputy Younes Fannouch told AFP.

Twelve of the 200 seats have not been attributed, since the vote in certain polling stations was annulled for suspected electoral fraud.

11 parents of Nigeria's abducted girls die
[ARABNEWS] Nearly a dozen parents of the more than 200 kidnapped Nigerian schoolgirls will never see their daughters again.

Since the mass abduction of the schoolgirls by murderous Moslems three months ago, at least 11 of their parents have died and their hometown, Chibok, is under siege from the bully boys, residents report.

Seven fathers of kidnapped girls were among 51 bodies brought to Chibok hospital after an attack on the nearby village of Kautakari this month, said a health worker who insisted on anonymity for fear of reprisals by the myrmidons.

At least four more parents have died of heart failure, high blood pressure and other illnesses that the community blames on trauma due to the mass abduction 100 days ago, said community leader Pogu Bitrus, who provided their names.

"One father of two of the girls kidnapped just went into a kind of coma and kept repeating the names of his daughters, until life left him," said Bitrus.

I'd fire rockets at Israel, if I lived in Gaza: British MP
[Iran Press TV] A British politician says he would fire rockets into Israel if he lived in the besieged Gazoo Strip, which has faced a deadly Israeli offensive for over two weeks.

"The big question is - if I lived in Gazoo would I fire a rocket? - probably yes," Liberal Democrat member of parliament David Ward said in a message posted on Twitter on Tuesday.

He added in a follow-up message that the West should "make up its mind - which side is it on?"

The comments drew criticism from the Liberal Democrats, with some on social media calling on party leader Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg to suspend Ward from the party.

"We utterly condemn David Ward's comments, they are not representative of the Liberal Democrats," the party also said in a statement, adding that it would take the matter "very seriously and will treat it as a disciplinary issue."

Last July, Ward was suspended from his party for making anti-Israeli remarks.
At least the man is consistent...
"There will be a ceasefire, then there will be a period of calm," he said in an interview with BBC Radio Leeds about the latest Israeli onslaught on Gazoo, adding, "But during that period of calm when hopefully people are not being murdered, there will still be Paleostinians who are being shot by the Israeli forces, they will still be beaten up, there will still be child detentions, that to the Israelis is peace."

MP Ward wouldn't actually fire the icky rocket. He'd task an Irishman, Scot, or other lowly foreign conscript to do it for him. Proper English gentlemen do not engage in such activity, particularly when drones and counter-battery radar are in play.

Amid Riots, Jewish Self-Defense Groups In France Gain Traction
[IsraelTimes] Shortly before their synagogue became shrouded by tear gas and smoke, 100 Jews wielding baseball bats and clubs were singing the French national anthem in front of the synagogue's heavy metal gate.

They had gathered outside the main synagogue in the Gay Paree suburb of Sarcelles on Sunday to defend it against a predominantly Arab mob of 200 men who had gathered nearby with sticks and stones, setting garbage cans aflame and chanting "Slaughter the Jews."

The Jewish defenders were not singing for the rioters. Their performance of "La Marseillaise" was intended as a gesture of gratitude toward the 100 coppers clad in anti-riot armor that prevented the mob from approaching.

Lebanese Accused of Killing Irish U.N. Troops in 1980 Held in U.S.
[An Nahar] U.S. federal agents have tossed in the slammer
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
a Lebanese man who the Irish government says is a suspect in the abduction, torture and killing of two Irish soldiers serving as United Nations
...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
peacekeepers in Leb 34 years ago.
Goodness. Talk about the mills of Justice grinding slowly!
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested Mahmoud Bazzi on Tuesday at his home in the bankrupt, increasingly impoverished, reliably Democrat, Detroit
... ruled by Democrats since 1962. A city whose Golden Age included the Purple Gang...
suburb of Dearborn. The agency arrested Bazzi for "administrative immigration violations" not directly in connection with the killings in Leb, spokeswoman Gillian Christensen told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named last week.

She said he would be held "pending removal proceedings." Bazzi's next court date is July 31.

Irish Defense Minister Simon Coveney welcomed Bazzi's arrest and said Ireland has continually pursued the case with Lebanese and U.S. authorities over the years.

"I hope this is the start of a process to bring to justice the alleged perpetrator of what was a heinous crime, the torture and murder of two innocent Irish peacekeepers," Coveney said in a statement.

Bazzi has denied killing Derek Smallhorne and Thomas Barrett in 1980, telling the Detroit Free Press he once falsely confessed to the slayings because he feared a Lebanese militia would kill him unless he lied.

"I am innocent," he said. "I had nothing to do with that."

While not specifically citing the accusations against Bazzi in his native Leb, Christensen said the Department of Homeland Security "is committed to rooting out alleged human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
violators who seek a safe haven in the United States."
One wonders how long he was here before they noticed. Long enough to find -- and be able to afford -- a nice house in the suburbs, at least.

Elders vow to establish writ of govt in Bajaur
[DAWN] The elders of Salarzai tribe in Bajaur Agency, aka Turban Central
...Smallest of the agencies in FATA. The Agency administration is located in Khar. Bajaur is inhabited almost exclusively by Tarkani Pashtuns, which are divided into multiple bickering subtribes. Its 52 km border border with Afghanistan's Kunar Province makes it of strategic importance to Pakistain's strategic depth...
on Tuesday assured the political administration and security forces to establish writ of the government in the region.

During a jirga here on Tuesday, the tribal elders pledged to step up their efforts against bully boyz to stop cross-border attacks in the area.

A large number of tribal elders belonging to various sub tribes, leaders of peace committees, Brig Ghulam Haider, Political Agent Syed Abdul Jabar Shah and other bigwigs attended the jirga.

The participants of the jirga discussed issues related to law and order situation in the region, holy warrior activities along the border areas, working of village defence committees, strategy for countering anti-social activities and cross-border attacks.

Addressing the jirga, the political agent said that administration was committed to maintaining peace and writ of the government in the agency. Unfortunately law and order situation in the region remained unsatisfactory for the last several weeks, he added.

The official said that occurrence of several unpleasant incidents in the agency particularly in the border areas was reaction to military operation against bully boyz in North Wazoo Agency.

He called upon the tribal elders to realise the situation and focus on maintaining peace in their areas because bully boyz were trying to disturb peace and normality in the agency particularly in the border areas.

"We have credible information that bully boyz can increase their activities in the agency to create terror and fear among the people. Therefore the elders should fulfil their collective responsibility and remain alert to counter these activities in their areas," Mr Shah said.

Addressing the jirga, Brig Ghulam Haider asked the elders to step up their anti-bully boyz activities to make the region secure.

Tribal elders including Malik Mohammad Yar, Malik Mohammad Younas Khan, Malik Hafizur Rehmen, Malik Abdul Nasar Khan and Israr Khan assured the administration and security forces of their full support in maintaining law and order in the region.

No civilian deaths in Shawal air strikes: Safron
[DAWN] Federal Minister for State and Frontier Regions General (r) Abdul Qadir Baloch denied that non-combatants were killed in last week's air strikes conducted in Shawal valley in North Wazoo.

"There is a very small civil population in Shawal valley which is yet to be evacuated, but I assure you there were no reports of civilian casualties", Baloch told a news conference in Islamabad.

He also said that Mullah Fazaullah-led turbans hiding in Afghanistan were planning attacks on the Bajaur tribal region. He added that Pakistain Army would foil their plans of capturing Bajaur agency.

General (r) Baloch further said targeted operations against murderous Moslems' hubs in Islamabad, Lahore and Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
would also be carried out by Police, Rangers and FC. He added that the military could also participate if needed.

Baloch claimed the ongoing operation in North Waziristan was "bigger than the war of 1971" and victory was the only option against terrorists.

He however admitted that the government had failed to mobilise the nation over the IDPs issue but said they would be rehabilitated through local resources. He said the total number of IDPs from North Waziristan could reach two million.

Pakistain's military launched a large-scale operation named 'Zarb-e-Azb
..the Pak offensive against Qaeda in Pakistain and the Pak Taliban in North Wazoo. The name refers to the sword of the Prophet (PTUI!)...
' against Talibs in North Waziristan tribal region after a brazen attack on Karachi International Airport, which was claimed by the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP), and failure of peace talks between government and TTP nominated negotiators.

Iraq
Iraq Says Jordan's Hosting of Sunni Critics 'Unacceptable'
[An Nahar] Baghdad on Tuesday said Jordan's hosting of a meeting of Sunni Iraqis opposed to the Shiite-led government was "unacceptable".

On Friday Iraq recalled its envoy to Amman without giving a reason, but the move came days after a meeting of some 300 Sunni holy mans, tribal leaders, myrmidon commanders and businessmen in the Jordanian capital.

Delegates described a Sunni Islamist insurgency that has taken hold of swathes of Iraq in recent weeks as a "popular revolt".

Islamic State jihadists are spearheading the campaign, which began in the Iraqi city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
on June 9 and has since swept large parts of the country's northern and western provinces.

The Iraqi government described those attending the meeting as "enemies of the political system and social fabric of Iraq".

"The cabinet considers the hosting of these conferences an unacceptable hostility towards the Iraqi people by a friendly, sister country," the cabinet said, and asked that the foreign ministry follow up on the issue.

Iraq's Shiite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has decried what he describes as foreign meddling in his country, and has accused countries in the region of arming and funding bully boys.

Iraq was almost torn apart in 2006-2007 when the bombing of a revered Shiite shrine in Samarra, north of Baghdad, triggered a wave of sectarian slaughter between Shiite militias and Al-Qaeda-allied Sunni bully boys.

Iraq PM Seeks Sunni Tribal Help in Battling Insurgency
[An Nahar] Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki met several Sunni tribal leaders on Tuesday in a renewed bid to gain their support in battling a raging jihadist-led Sunni insurgency.

Maliki, a Shiite, has had a troubled relationship with Iraq's Sunni tribes, who in 2006 began helping the government fight al-Qaeda-linked Sunni holy warriors, but who now accuse him of sectarian discrimination.

The Iraqi premier's fresh overtures to tribal chiefs comes amid an onslaught spearheaded by Islamic State Sunni holy warriors that has taken swathes of the country in recent weeks.

"He stressed that the tribe was and still is the foundation for protecting the security of areas against the dangers that threaten them, particularly terrorists," a statement from Maliki's office said.

"Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki added that the government would provide the tribes with everything they need to defend their areas."

From late 2006, when Iraq's bloody sectarian war was around its peak, some Sunni tribes began siding with U.S. forces against the often brutal tactics of their al-Qaeda-linked coreligionists.

The American military started paying the Death Eaters regular salaries, and called them the "Sons of Iraq". In Arabic, they were referred to as the Sahwa, or "Awakening", forces, and numbered around 100,000 at their peak.

The move was seen as crucial to the decline of violence in Iraq from 2008 onwards and helped provide jobs for the country's Sunni minority, dampening resentment against the Shiite-led government.

But since U.S. forces handed over responsibility for the Sahwa to Iraqi authorities, the Death Eaters have alleged poor treatment, delayed payment and a failure of the Shiite-led government to follow through on a promise to incorporate them into the civil service and conventional security forces.

Maliki's office said he had met tribal chiefs from Sunni strongholds in the Anbar, Salaheddin, Nineveh and Kirkuk provinces, and that they had asked for a "bigger role in countering the terrorists, and for help with weapons and training."

Maliki agreed to form committees to meet their requests, his office said.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Lufthansa, Delta, US Airways extend flight bans to Israel
Germany's Lufthansa on Wednesday suspended flights to and from Tel Aviv for an additional 24 hours. The decision also applies to Germanwings, Austrian Airlines, Swiss and Brussels Airlines.

"At the present time no adequate authoritative new information is available that would justify a resumption of flights. In close coordination with the responsible authorities Lufthansa is continually evaluating the safety situation for its total flight network," the company said.

On Tuesday, it suspended flights for 36 hours following a decision by America's Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to suspend travel to and from Israel. A rocket had fallen in a house in Yehud, a residential area near the airport, earlier in the day.

Delta Air Lines will also extend its suspension of flights to Israel on Wednesday amid hostilities between Israel and the militant group Hamas, its chief executive said on CNBC.

"Today ... we are not flying to Israel," Delta CEO Richard Anderson said in an interview with CNBC.

His comments come a day after air carriers in the United States and Europe halted flights to Tel Aviv as turmoil in Israel and the Gaza Strip intensified. US Airways canceled its flights to and from Ben-Gurion Airport on Wednesday night, saying it would resume air operations if the FAA removes its ban.

The FAA on Tuesday said it told US carriers they were prohibited from flying to or from Ben-Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv for up to 24 hours, citing "the potentially hazardous situation created by the armed conflict in Israel and Gaza."

On Tuesday a rocket hit a house in the metropolitan Tel Aviv area for the first time during the current conflict.

Anderson said Delta made its "decision wholly independent" of the FAA.

"We will not allow a flight to be dispatched over Iran, Iraq, Syria, Ukraine, Afghanistan or North Korea," he told CNBC. "We make this decision wholly independent of any geopolitical or regulatory mandate."

White House deputy national security adviser Tony Blinken on Wednesday said he had not heard from the FAA yet about whether it would lift the ban or any other details about its plan for flights in the region.

"They've been working very closely with Israeli authorities overnight to see if the concerns raised yesterday could be alleviated and they could lift the notice but I haven't heard from them this morning," Blinken told CNN in an interview.

Polish state airline LOT also suspended its flights to Israel from Warsaw until Monday because of concern for passengers' safety, the airline's spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

"This is caused by the tense situation in the region," LOT added in a statement. "The connection will be re-established as soon as possible and when we are sure that our operations are hundred percent safe."

Israel has rejected the decision to bar flights to its airport.

"Our airport is safe. Our airport is secure. And we hope the American carriers will be flying to Israel soon," Mark Regev, a spokesman for Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, said in an interview on MSNBC on Wednesday.

20,000 Israelis Mourn Fallen Texan in Haifa, Israel
[Breitbart] 20,000 "people from all walks of life" attended the funeral of "Lone Soldier" and First Sergeant Nissim Sean Carmeli on Sunday evening in Haifa, Israel. Sean, 21, was a Texas native who was serving in the front lines of Israel's Defense Forces (IDF) when he was struck and killed by enemy fire from Hamas on Sunday.

Sean, who split his time between South Padre Island, Texas (where his parents live) and Ra'anana, Israel was a huge fan of the Maccabi Haifa soccer team, according to the Times of Israel. The team, which found out about their fan's loyalty, posted an image of Sean to their nearly 70,000-strong following on their Facebook page, requesting their presence at his funeral.

The team reportedly even provided two buses to take attendees too and from Sean's funeral, which took place at 11 pm. The young man was buried in Haifa's Neve David cemetery with an overwhelming outpouring of support, notes the Times.

Governor Rick Perry issued a powerful, heartfelt message on behalf of all Texans:
"On behalf of all Texans, I'd like to express to the Carmeli family our deepest condolences on the loss of Sean, who died valiantly fighting terrorism in defense of Israel. Like many other 'Lone Soldiers,' Sean was American, but also a part of the extended Israeli family, and a passionate believer in Israel's inherent right to defend itself against terrorist aggression. Anita and I will keep his family in our thoughts and prayers."

Funeral attendee Ahuva Berger, noted the sheer volume and diversity of those in attendance to honor Sean's memory on Sunday. "It was really impressive to see," Berger conveyed to the Times. "There were people from all walks of life...religious, secular, Chabad, a Ra'anana Crew, alot of people from Haifa. Soldiers from the navy, air force and infantries."

California native Max Steinberg was also killed on Sunday while serving alongside Sean. The American-born men were two of 13 soldiers who died battling terror on Sunday. Sean was told he did not have to fight in the Brigade's front lines due to a foot injury he had suffered. However, he insisted on fighting alongside his squad, note the Times.

Both men were fighting in Israel's Golani Brigade. The unit is known to be one of the IDF's foremost elite combat units. It is tasked with taking on some of Israel's most difficult missions.

Palestinians Plead for U.N. Action to Stop Gaza Violence
[An Nahar] The Paleostinian envoy to the United Nations
...aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society...
held up photographs of slain children and read out the names of the dead on Tuesday as he pleaded for action from the Security Council.

"On behalf of the Paleostinian people, we ask: What is the international community doing to stop this bloodletting, to stop Israel's atrocities?" Riyad Mansour said at a debate on the Gazoo crisis.
Come now, Mr. Mansour. The international community is doing exactly the same thing to stop Israel's atrocities as they are to stop Gaza's atrocities: absolutely nothing. Though they sure are talking a lot...
Wearing a black ribbon, he held up photographs of families overcome with grief and of children's corpses, and read out the names of young victims who bit the dust. "Umama Al-Hayyeh, age 9; Dima Isleem, age 2; Mohamad Ayyad, age 2; Rahaf Abu Jumaa, age 4...".

The Security Council opened debate on the Gazoo crisis as Israel kept up its barrage of shells and air strikes and Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, gunnies hit back with rockets, pushing the Paleostinian corpse count to more than 600 in a conflict now in its third week.

Israel's deputy envoy asserted that his country was acting in self-defense against Hamas, which it accused of using Paleostinian casualties as "fuel for a propaganda machine."

"This is not a war we chose. It was our last resort," said David Roet, who added that Israel had accepted ceasefire offers, unlike Hamas which has rejected a truce.

In Ramallah for talks with Paleostinian leaders, U.N. Secretary General the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon
... of whom it can be said to his credit that he is not Kofi Annan...
told the Council by videolink that his efforts to secure a ceasefire had reached a "highly sensitive moment" and voiced hope for results "in the very near future."

During an emergency session on Sunday, the U.N. Security Council called for an immediate ceasefire in a statement that also demanded that civilians be protected.

But the 15-member Council has not taken the stronger step of adopting a formal resolution, despite efforts by Jordan and other Arab countries to win support for such a measure.

World leaders have expressed alarm over the rising corpse count, with U.S. Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
holding talks in Cairo to shore up Egypt's efforts to broker a truce.

More than 100,000 Paleostinians have fled their homes and are sheltering in schools run by the U.N. relief agency UNRWA.

I wonder how much of UNRWA's budget and personnel are tied up in the whole paleo-mess. Not that I'm suggesting they have a vested interest in seeing this drawn out as long as possible.

Let's google! Hmmm. UNRWA is actually the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East. OK, so they may be a little invested.

I can't find any numbers on their site for headcount, but "The regular UNRWA budget for 2013 was US$ 675 million."

EU strongly condemns indiscriminate Hamas rockets on Israel and use of Palestinian population as human shields
Their official press statement for what it's worth...
They've noticed that things are getting ugly back home:
It's like 1938, says Israeli ambassador to Germany: Outbreaks of anti-Semitism on the rise across Europe
The Jews have noticed, too:
Attempted pogrom thwarted by Jewish self-defense groups
The entire European moral superiority project vis-a-vis Israel kind of falls to pieces if the Jews leave because they are demonstrably no longer safe... especially when Israel welcomes them.

Erdogan chooses anti-Israel diatribes over Gaza mediation
[ARABNEWS] Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi only they haven't dumped him yet...
has sacrificed any possibility of Turkey playing a mediation role in Gazoo in favor of seeking to impress voters ahead of presidential polls with the toughest ever anti-Israeli rhetoric from a Turkish leader.

Before the rise to power of Erdogan's Islamic-rooted Justice and Development Party (AKP) over a decade ago, NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
member Turkey was Israel's key ally in the Islamic world, a policy enthusiastically cheered by the United States.

Erdogan has long presented himself as a champion of the Paleostinian cause and leader of the entire Sunni Mohammedan world.

But his anti-Israel rhetoric has reached new heights in the Gazoo conflict, with comments aimed at causing the maximum offense in the Jewish State by comparing its strategy in Gazoo to the actions of Nazi Germany.

Erdogan has accused Israel of committing "genocide" in Gazoo and has also compared the mentality of some elements in Israeli society to that of Adolf Hitler
...late Fuehrer of Germany, founder of the Third Reich, currently communing with his pals Himmler and Heydrich. He is reincarnated every few days as a politician somebody doesn't like...
, comments that enraged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Turkey's usually mildly-spoken Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu also launched his own incendiary attack against Israel over the weekend, saying Turkey had no reason to be impartial.

"Turkey is by no means impartial and can have no supporting role in the mediation efforts," Cengiz Aktar, professor of political science at the Istanbul Policy Center, told

Israel's Military Might Is Tested by Hamas' Stamina: Experts
[NBCNEWS] Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, may be militarily outnumbered and outgunned by Israel, but it has the stamina and training to turn the Gazoo ground invasion into a protracted urban war, experts warned Tuesday.

Six days after Benjamin Netanyahu ordered ground forces across the border into Gazoo, the corpse count has climbed to more than 600 Paleostinians and 29 Israeli soldiers - more than twice as many military casualties as in the last Gazoo ground war of 2009.

Hopes that the invasion by Israeli Defense Forces would swiftly end the tit-for-tat aerial exchange of Paleostinian rockets and Israeli missiles look to have been dashed as gaps between the sides remain wide.

"Hamas' strategy seems to be to suck Israeli forces into a situation where their numerical and qualitative advantages are neutralized, by tunneling into areas where they can attack or laying various traps," said Chris Doyle, director of the Council for Arab-British Understanding. "It is trying to conduct a classic urban guerrilla conflict for which it has no doubt been preparing for some time."
Preparing, clearly. But at this point it doesn't seem terribly successful, given how few Israelis they've managed to kill or even injure versus Gazan losses. Still, they may get $87 million for rebuilding afterward, which will go partway toward replacing the $1 billion or so in destroyed tunnels...

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Nearly 40 kids infected with polio in Syria, Iraq: UN
[Iran Press TV] Thirty-eight children have been paralyzed by polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
in Syria and Iraq since October last year and there is a high risk that the disease will spread further in the Middle East, the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
says.

"It is now even more imperative to reach every child multiple times, and to do whatever we can to vaccinate children we could not reach in previous rounds," said Maria Calivis, regional director for the Middle East and North Africa at the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), in a report on Tuesday.

The disease, which broke out in Deir al-Zor, the largest in the eastern part of Syria, has infected 36 people in the crisis-hit country so far.

Most of the Syria cases were recorded in Deir al-Zor, but others were in Aleppo, Idlib, Hama, and Hasakah.

"Right now we estimate that there are 765,000 children inside Syria who live in areas that are hard to reach. And as long as we don't get full and regular access to these children, the chances of polio spreading further will continue to exist," said Juliette Touma, a spokesperson for UNICEF.

The two cases in Iraq are children living around the capital Baghdad.

Between December 2013 and June, a polio vaccination campaign was launched in seven countries of the Middle East, which reached a record 25 million children, according to UNICEF and the World Health Organization.

Nasrallah-Meshaal Contacts Will Help Rebuild Islamic Resistance against Israel
[An Nahar] The Israeli campaign against the Gazoo Strip will play a major role in "reorganizing" the power of the resistance in Leb, the Paleostinian territories, and the region, reported As Safir newspaper on Tuesday.

This was reflected in the telephone call between Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
chief His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...
and Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, leader Khaled Meshaal on Monday, added the daily.

A leading Hamas source told As Safir: "The telephone call is a very important step towards rebuilding the Arab and Islamic resistance in confronting the Zionist enemy."

Nasrallah had stressed to Meshaal Hizbullah's support for the Paleostinian intifada and the resistance of its people.
Verbal support, at least. In real life Hizb'allah is a bit busy killing and being killed elsewhere.
Moreover, leading sources said that the Gazoo campaign should help eliminate all misconceptions linked to the previous phase and the tensions that had arisen between Hamas on the one hand and Hizbullah and Tehran on the other.

"The campaign will help reunify the resistance front on the basis that Paleostine is the central cause that holds precedence over all others and on the basis that Israel poses the greatest threat to the Arab and Islamic world," it added.

Nasrallah is scheduled to deliver a speech on Friday afternoon on the occasion of Quds Day during which he will likely focus mostly on the Israeli campaign against Gazoo.

Hizbullah is currently engaged in battles in neighboring Syria to back Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Terror of Aleppo ...
's army as he battles snuffies who have been trying to overthrow him since 2011.

The party's involvement in Syria has prompted kabooms by holy warrior groups against areas in Leb sympathetic to the group, killing mostly civilians.

More than 500 people have been killed so far in Israeli violence on the Gazoo Strip.

The latest Israeli aggression on the Gazoo began on July 8, with Israel announcing on July 17 that it would undertake ground operations in the strip.

Al-Ali brothers were freed for a $20,000 ransom, but the kidnappers still hold al-Hamad and demand a $500,000 ransom to free him.

Several Members of HIC Led by Qabbani Resign Ending Crisis
[An Nahar] Several members of the Higher Islamic Council led by Grand Mufti Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Qabbani
... Grand Mufti of Lebanon and the most prominent Sunni Muslim cleric in the country. An assassination attempt against Qabbani was foiled by Leb internal security forces in 2009 as part of the Eid al-Fitr celebrations in Beirut. In an interview broadcast in 2012, Qabbani stated that Jews were behind secularism, because they opposed the authority of the church, against Christianity. He also suggested that the attacks of September 11, 2001 were orchestrated by Jews in order to justify the persecution of Muslims worldwide. Qabbani is against the legalization of civil marriage in Lebanon. He has issued a fatwa declaring any Muslim politician who approves civil marriage legislation an apostate. Surprisingly, he is not considered very much of a nut by Moslem standards.
resigned on Tuesday thus ending a three-year war that sought the division of the highest Sunni authority in Leb.

Fifteen members had so far submitted their resignations thus suspending the works of the HIC headed by Qabbani.

Six members of the resigned body said on Tuesday in a statement: "Nine members had already resigned from the newly formed 32-member formed council by Qabbani... And our resignation prompts the council to dissolve."

"We were never chasing after personal interests or seeking rift between the two councils... We were seeking to bridge the gap between the two foes," the statement pointed out.

It added that the members are "keen to preserve the Sunni sect's highest interest."

"Our decision came in light of our attempt to avert the possible election of two Muftis due to the ongoing rift."

"Our collective resignation dissolves this council."

The members were identified as: Mwafaq al-Rouwas, Talal Majzoub, Saleh al-Dsouqi, Fouad Matraji, Rabih Qaterji, Mohammed Sinno, Bassem Assaf, Moustapha Qorra, Hammam Ziyadeh, Moustapha Banouk, Hani Qabbani, Omar Tarabah, Amir Raad, Haitham Fawwal and Saad Eddine Anouti.

Recently the battle between the HIC led by Qabbani and another headed by his deputy Sheikh Omar Misqawi intensified after the two bodies filed lawsuits against each other.

Both lawsuits include charges of impersonation.

The Grand Mufti had also challenged the legality of the council led by Misqawi in April.

Earlier in July, the body led by Misqawi charged the members of the council headed by Qabbani with having an "illegal status."

Article 370 of the law states that the charges against the HIC led by Qabbani could lead to a year in prison if the member was employed and to three years in jail if the member was unemployed.

Misqawi's council also accused head of Dar al-Fatwa's Islamic Endowments, Sheikh Hisham Khalifeh, who is loyal to Qabbani, of sectarian incitement, the endorsement of stances that violate the Shura Council decisions deeming them as "unbinding" and of making a void call for the election of a new Grand Mufti in August.

In June, Sheikh Khalifeh called for electing a new Grand Mufti in August, but this announcement was met with the opposition of the council led by Misqawi, who demanded the elections to be held as soon as possible.

Qabbani's term ends on September 15.

The dispute between the council led by Qabbani and that of his deputy Misqawi is the result of political interference.

The Higher Islamic Council -- which elects the Mufti and organizes Dar al-Fatwa's affairs — became the center of controversy in 2012 after 21 of its members, who are close to al-Mustaqbal
... the Future Movement, political party led by Saad Hariri...
movement, extended its term until 2015 despite Qabbani's objection.

The Mufti later held elections for the Council, which were deemed illegal by ex-PMs Saniora and Najib Miqati, and the group led by Misqawi, who argued that the polls violated Shura Council decisions and did not enjoy a legal quorum.
