Three suicide bombers killed in attack on NDS facility in Kabul
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Three jacket wallahs were killed in a failed attack, targeting a facility of the National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
(NDS) -- Afghanistan's intelligence agency -- in capital Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
on Tuesday.

General Abdul Rahman Rahimi told news hounds at the site of the attack that the Lions of Islam planned to storm the NDS facility but their attack was suppressed by the security forces.

He said the attack begin with a suicide kaboom in front of the facility due to which one soldier who was guarding the gate embraced martyrdom. The suicide kaboomer used a Zaranj cycle of violence laden with explosives in this kaboom.

According to the police chief two other suicide bombers tried to enter to the NDS office following the blast but security forces gunned them down after identifying them.

No group had immediately grabbed credit for the attack in Kart-e-Naw area by the time of filing this report. However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
the responsibility for the first attack which took place in Shah Shahid area of Kabul city is claimed by two holy warrior groups, the Taliban and the Hizb-e-Islami.

According to Kabul police, two people -- one foreigner and another civilian, were maimed after a suicide bomber rammed in his explosives-laden vehicle into a vehicle of foreign forces around 11:30 am.

Today's attacks come about two weeks after Taliban attacked the Afghan parliament in Darul Aman area of the city.

Five people were killed, none of them politicians, and 31 others maimed in the attack.

Al Shabaab gunmen kill 14 in attack on Kenyan workers
[FIRSTPOST] MOMBASA, Kenya Al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
gunnies killed 14 people, mostly quarry workers, officials said, in an overnight attack on a residential complex in northeast Kenya that the Islamic turban group said had targeted Christians.

Many died in their sleep, the Kenya Red Thingy said. The raid, in the town of Mandera, mirrored one in the same county in December in which 36 quarry workers died.

Al-Shabaab has made a series of deadly incursions into Kenya, saying it will continue until Nairobi withdraws troops from an African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
force fighting the bully boyz in Somalia.

The group's military operations front man, Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, told Rooters its gunnies killed more than 10 Kenyan Christians in Tuesday's raid. It has in the past singled out non-Moslems to be executed.

"The area ... is a plot where quarry workers live. They attacked at around 1 a.m. Most of those killed are workers from upcountry," Alex Nkoyo, commissioner for Mandera County, told Rooters by phone. He put the corpse count at 14, including a woman who had tried to plead with gunnies before being shot.

In a separate incident, al-Shabaab said it attacked a Kenyan military convoy between Mpeketoni and Lamu on the north coast, an area of previous attacks. It said it inflicted casualties.

The army could not immediately be reached for comment, while a police commander in the region said a convoy of five civilian buses with a security escort was attacked but no one was hurt.

Egypt dissolves 14 Brotherhood-linked NGOs
[AlAhram] Up to 434 NGOs have been closed by court order so far, according to the Ahram Arabic news website

Social Solidarity Minister Ghada Waly dissolved 14 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) on Tuesday in Minya, Beni Suef and Damietta for being associated with the outlawed Moslem Brüderbund group, the Ahram Arabic news website reported.

Twenty-one other NGOs in Qena, Fayoum and Daqahliya will have a new board of directors, so that they do not stop offering their social services.

The decision follows a 2013 court decision to ban the Brotherhood's activities and to seize the assets of Brotherhood-linked organizations, the minister said. On 23 September 2013, the Cairo Court for Urgent Matters ordered a ban on Moslem Brüderbund activities, as well as the interim government's seizure of the group's assets and funds, with a panel to manage the frozen assets.

In November of the same year, Egypt outlawed the Moslem Brüderbund, labeling it a terrorist organization.

Waly said that the NGOs were dissolved after consulting the Union of Non-Governmental Organisations and Institutions. The decisions have not been applied yet, as an inventory is still being prepared of the concerned NGOs' assets.

This is the fifth time that NGOs have been dissolved for the same reasons this year, after 169 organizations were dissolved for the first time in February. Up to 434 NGOs have been closed by court order so far, according to Ahram Arabic.

In 2014, the government seized the assets of hundreds of charity groups and educational facilities suspected of association with the Brotherhood.

French Special Forces Kill Top Al-Qaida Militant in Mali
[AnNahar] La Belle France said on Tuesday its special forces in Mali killed an Al-Qaeda commander who had been released from prison in a swap for a French hostage.

The army said Ali Ag Wadossene, one of the "operational leaders" of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), died on Sunday in the northeastern town of Kidal, while two other "terrorists" were captured.

The operation "has dealt another heavy blow to armed terrorist groups in the Sahel", the army said, adding that it had destabilized AQIM's chain of command in that part of the lawless, arid region.

Four brothers among eight Benghazi mortar-fire dead
[Libya Herald] Staff at Benghazi Medical Centre are reported to have wept when the bodies of four brothers were brought to the hospital after a mortar attack in Bouhdima.

The Alorafee brothers, Salah, Tariq, Mansour and Hamza were among the eight people killed today in mortar assaults launched from parts of the city still controlled by the Benghazi. They were recognised as they were brought into the hospital's emergency room.

The other four who died were Waleed Ibrahim, Awad Ibrahim Alaclai and Khalid Mohammed Fakhri.

One of the mortar shells, which witnesses said appeared to be fired at random, landed right beside the city's children's hospital but there were no reports of casualties there.

Benghazi clashes intensify
[Libya Herald] There have again been heavy festivities in Benghazi during the past two days particularly in the downtown area, in Suq Al-Hout and neighbouring Sabri, where there has been direct fighting. In Hawari and other affected districts, the festivities have been more a case random but nevertheless deadly missile fire.

At last 12 people were reported died today -- four soldiers killed in action, although the Libya National Army (LNA) has not said where, and eight as a result of random rocket attacks. Mostly civilians, the latter were killed in and around Buhdeima and include four brothers, in their 20s, named as Tariq, Salah, Mansour and Hamza Ramadan Al-Arafi, from the city's Hay Al-Zawia (previously known as Hay Al-Fatah).

The others have been named as Walid Ibrahim, Khaled al-Fikhri (an off-duty member of Saiqa forces), Zaki Al-Barani and Awad Ibrahim Al-Awkali.

Random rockets have also landed in Salmani, Ard Zuwawa, Fuwayhat and Hadaiq. They are believed to have been fired mainly from Hawari. Very early this morning a rocket landed near the Children's Hospital, opposite the Benghazi Medical Cenntre.

Meanwhile LNA aircraft today targeted myrmidons' positions in the city centre and Leithi.

Yesterday, it was reported that three residents -- two young women and an older man -- had been killed in Beirut Street in central Benghazi as a result of random shelling and 20 ther injured. Jalaa Hospital has denied their deaths saying the three were maimed.

Clashes between Ajilat and Sabratha
[Libya Herald] Libya Dawn
...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). It is made up of the Libya Shield militia (Misrata and Moslem Brotherhood), Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room (Moslem Brotherhood), and Tripoli Brigade (close to Abdul Hakim Belhaj, head of Al-Watan party). Financing and moral support come from Turkey and Qatar...
and Libyan National Army (LNA) fighters traded missile fire yesterday after the latter tried to take control of a remaining part of Ajilat district known as the Suq and which is still controlled by the former.

After LNA support forces -- mainly Warshafani and Zintani fighters --launched the bid, Dawn fighters based in Sabratha, less than ten kilometres away, started firing grad missiles, according to a LNA source. A child whose family had been evacuated from elsewhere is said to have been killed and members of another family injured when missiles hit their homes.

After they had pulled out, the LNA support forces then started targeting Sabratha with missiles, causing damage on a local resident's house, but no known casualties.

Last night, according to the source, the LNA reinforced its positions in Ajilat, expecting a counter attack from Libya Dawn. This, however, did not occur.

Car bombed in Derna
[Libya Herald] A car went kaboom! in Derna yesterday afternoon in what is seen as a Dire Revenge attack against the Islamic State

(IS).

A homemade explosive, thought to be a "gelatina" bomb, was placed under the vehicle in the town centre's Shara Al-Maghar. The car, which was burned out, is said to belong to a local supporter of IS who has disappeared.

There have been a number of similar attacks on vehicles and properties belonging to IS supporters since the group was forced out of the town last month.

Meanwhile,

25 Dead in Suspected Suicide Attack in Zaria, Northern Nigeria
[AnNahar] At least 25 people were killed when a kaboom destroyed a packed government office in Zaria, northern Nigeria, on Tuesday, in a suspected suicide kaboom likely to be blamed on Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
The kaboom occurred at about 9:00 am (0800 GMT), as primary school teachers and public sector workers were queuing for identity checks, according to witnesses.

"I am sad to confirm that an IED (improvised bomb) most likely carried by a jacket wallah went kaboom! in the Sabon Gari LG (local government district) and killed 25 people, including a two-year-old," Kaduna state governor Nasir El-Rufai said. El-Rufai added in the statement posted on his Facebook account that 32 others were maimed and were being treated in hospital.

Zaria, a mainly Moslem city some 75 kilometers (47 miles) north of the state capital Kaduna city, is near the border with Katsina and Kano states.

On Monday night, a young girl believed to be aged just 13 was killed when explosives strapped to her body detonated near a major mosque in Kano city. That bombing followed a twin attack on a mosque and restaurant in the central city of Jos on Sunday, which left 44 people dead, and a suicide kaboom on a church in Potiskum that killed five.

Boko Haram has increased the intensity and frequency of its attacks on civilians since President Muhammadu Buhari came to power on May 29 vowing to crush the rebels.

Local government worker the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
said public sector staff and primary school teachers were undergoing screening to identify potential ghost workers on the state payroll.

Another staff member who was waiting outside, Mohammed Abubakar, said: "We were taking turns going into the hall in batches for the screening and also to get our pay cheques.

"The first batch had gone in. There were almost 100 people there, including the staff, the screening committee and accountants from the banks.

"There was a huge kaboom inside the hall followed by billows of smoke and dust. Now the area has been cordoned off by coppers.

"I can't give you an exact toll but I believe that dozens must have died given the number of people inside and the sound of the kaboom."

Zaria has not been known as a stronghold of Boko Haram, which has been fighting for six years to create a hardline Islamic state in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
, but it has been attacked before.

Female Bomber Kills 4 near NE Nigeria Military Checkpoint

[AnNahar] A female jacket wallah on Tuesday blew herself up near a military checkpoint in restive Nigeria's northeastern Borno state, killing four people, witnesses said.

"The woman ... alighted near a military check point in Sabon Gari where she blew herself up and killed four other people," witness Maikaho Abdu told AFP.

He said the attack happened at Sabon Gari village, along Gombe road, some 110 kilometers (68 miles) from Maiduguri, the state capital.

Bangladesh
Bonya identifies blogger Avijit's killers
[Dhaka Tribune] Seven members of Ansarullah Bangla Team were involved in the murder of Avijit Roy, Sherlocks said, adding that two of them had been positively identified by the blogger's wife.

Two of the culprits directly carried out the attack on Avijit and his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya, while the other five reportedly tracked the blogger's movement and helped the killers flee the scene. All the perpetrators have now been identified.

"We have not only identified the seven killers but also collected photos suspected to be of them," a bigwig of the Detective Branch of police told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday.

Requesting anonymity, the official added that they had sent the photos to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for verification, and Avijit's wife -- who was also injured in the attack -- has already identified two of the suspects as being at the scene of the murder.

On February 27, Avijit Roy was murdered near the TSC intersection while he was visiting the ongoing Ekushey Book Fair. His wife, Bonya, lost a finger in the attack.

The following day, Avijit's father Ajay Roy filed a case with Shahbag cop shoppe. Along with the DB police, the FBI also assisted in the investigation as Avijit was a US citizen.

"We have got all possible details of Avijit's killing and we are certain that all the killers belong to banned krazed killer outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team," said Monirul Islam, joint commissioner of DB police.

Monirul, however, said the location of the suspects are yet to be figured out. He also refused to disclose the identities of the killers as the investigation was still going on.

Another senior DB official, also wishing not to be named, told the Dhaka Tribune that the killers -- posing as fans -- collected information about the science writer from a friend of Bonya, before the blogger couple arrived in the country from the US on February 16.

"Actually, Bonya's friend had no idea about the killers' identities and she helped them unknowingly," the DB official added.

He added that detectives have also extracted some sensational information from nine bully boyz including three Ansarullah members who were tossed in the clink
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
last month.

The seven killers were identified after verifying information provided by the arrestees, analysing phone call data, and going through video footage collected from 70 CCTV cameras installed at book fair premises, the official added.

Following Avijit's death, a Facebook page named Ansar Bangla Seven grabbed credit for the murder. Law enforcers have so far arrested only one youth named Shafiur Rahman Farabi on charges of instigating the murder of Avijit.

The dear departed was identified as Nazim Uddin, 35, son of Ishak Chowdhury, a resident of Kottabazar of Uttar Bashbaria area of Siakunda upazila, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Iftekhar Hasan of Sitakunda cop shoppe.

Police locked away
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
Nazim's associate Md Didar, 25, and recovered a pistol, a Light Gun (LG) and 10 rounds of bullets from the scene.

gang in Syria.

An Interior Ministry statement said the woman, a Spaniard, was arrested in the city of Arrecife on the Canary Island of Lanzarote.

The ministry said the woman maintained contact with Islamic State forces of Evil in Syria.

It added that the operation was being conducted by the National Court in Madrid.

Spain has arrested dozens of suspected jihadi forces of Evil and recruiters in recent years.

On Monday, police arrested two men in Madrid for alleged collaboration with Kurdish groups fighting in Syria and Iraq.

The two are suspected of having being trained to use arms and explosives and fight guerrilla warfare. The ministry said their actions affected Spain's national interests.

The ministry said it hoped to dissuade other leftist forces of Evil from enlisting and possibly falling into the hands of the Islamic State group, which could use them for propaganda.

Two Hazara brothers shot dead in Quetta sectarian attack
[DAWN] Two brothers belonging to the Shia Hazara community and a policeman were bumped off here on Monday.

Three other people, a woman among them, were maimed when a group of men fired indiscriminately on them near the passport office in the Joint Road area.

Police said at least one attacker was injured when the policeman who had been hit by a bullet and later died, fired back. The constable was identified as Kala Khan. He was going to the offices of a private TV channel where he had been deployed for security duty.

"Four members of a family belonging to the Shia Hazara community and other people were standing outside the passport office when they came under attack," Capital City Police officer Abdul Razzak Cheema said.

Another police official said the masked assailants used advanced weapons.

Police and Frontier Corps
...a provincial paramilitary force. Total manpower is about 80,000. They are tasked to help local law enforcement in the maintenance of law and order, and to carry out border patrol and anti-smuggling operations....
personnel and rescue teams took the dead and the injured to the Civil Hospital where doctors said that the dear departed had been hit in the head.

Those who had suffered serious injuries were transferred to the Combined Military Hospital where they were in the Intensive Care Unit.

The dear departed brothers were identified as Hassan Hazara and Shabbir Hazara and the injured as Naimatullah, Khuda-e-Dost and Fatima Bibi.

Soon after the incident, shops in the area downed their shutters.

Law-enforcement agencies cordoned off the area to look for the assailants.

Police termed it a sectarian attack and said that a "sectarian group may be behind the incident".

Later, a large number of people took the bodies to the IG Police Office and held a sit-in. They shouted slogans against police and other law-enforcement agencies for their failure to provide security and protection to the Hazara community.

The Hazara Democratic Party, the Anjuman Wahdatul Moslemeen, the Shia Ulema Council and other organizations and members of the civil society condemned the killings and demanded immediate arrest of the killers.

AFP adds: The brothers were entering the passport office along with their parents when the waiting gunnies opened fire.

"The boys, in their twenties, were killed in the shooting while their parents were maimed and a policeman who was passing by the site was also killed after he shot and maimed one attacker," CPO Abdul Razzak Cheema said.

He added that two gunnies were involved in the shooting but they had others to assist them in escaping the scene.

Home Secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani confirmed the casualties.

Police later said they had locked away

the maimed suspect who claimed that he was not with the attacker but just a passerby.

No group immediately grabbed credit for the shooting.

According to the IJS, Islamic State fighters executed Suha Ahmed Radi in Mosul after days in bully boys' captivity. ISIS fighters reportedly raided her home located in the east of Mosul and detained her. After she was killed, her body was reportedly handed over to her relatives.

The jihadist group has been known to execute journalists in the areas of Iraq under ISIS control.

Radi worked as a news hound for a Mosul newspaper. It is unknown how long she was in ISIS captivity.

IJS said the sharia court of the Islamic State charged Radi with spying and she was sentenced to death in the Al-Daki neighborhood in the west of Mosul. There was no information about how she was executed.

According to the syndicate, 14 journalists have been executed in Mosul since ISIS took over the city in June 2014.

Mamuzin said the church was located in central of Mosul dates back to thousands of years.

Mosul fell in early June after the rapid capitulation by the Iraqi military, whose members reportedly abandoned their posts as the jihadists advanced.

After one year of controlling Mosul, the Islamic State has blown up many mosques and churches. In early March, it was reported that ISIS murderous Moslems used explosives to demolish the much-loved 19th century Hamo mosque, deeming it sacrilegious.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Kickboxing champion turned ISIS militant killed in Syria
[RUDAW.NET] Former Thai kickboxing world champion turned ISIS recruiter Valdet Gashi has reportedly been killed among ISIS Lions of Islam in Syria, Gashi's immediate family said Tuesday.

A German of Albanian ancestry, Gashi was a two-time champion in world mixed martial arts and was from the German state of Bavaria. He became a jihadist and joined ISIS in Syria in July 2014.

Swiss TV channel SRF cited Gashi's brother, who said his brother was killed last Saturday under vague circumstances in Syria.

According to the source, the 29-year-old Gashi was married with two children. He previously in a phone interview with Swiss media announced that he joined jihadists in Syria to "help and seek answers."

In the interview Gashi said he was working for ISIS by patrolling the Euphrates River near the Turkish border and looking for smugglers bringing in illegal goods like cigarettes, alcohol or drugs.

Gashi travelled to Syria with three other Thai kickboxers. One of them was known to be a Kurdish Moslem named Hajan who was killed in a battle with the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) in the Rojava Kurdish region of Syria.

The four friends reportedly carried out many brutal punishments while serving in the jihadist ranks.

In May, the UN reported that some 20,000-22,000 imported muscle had joined ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

Syria's al-Qaeda offshoot Nusra stages suicide bombing in Aleppo: monitor
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] A jacket wallah from Syria's al Qaeda offshoot the Nusra Front went kaboom! in a Syrian army outpost in a contested neighborhood in the divided northern city of Aleppo and killed at least 25 soldiers and allied militia and injured scores, a monitor said.

The UK based Observatory for Human Rights, which tracks the violence across the country, said the kaboom from the blast was heard across the city where several Islamist-led groups recently launched an offensive to control the remaining western parts of the city in government hands.

Rebel websites said there was heavy bombardment of rebel-held portions of Jamiyat al Zahra district, where rebels had gained ground and brought them closer to the heart of government controlled parts of the city, which was before the 2011 civil war the country's main industrial and commercial hub.

Rami Abdul Rahman, head of the monitor group, said the Syrian army had responded with heavy firepower including aerial bombardment in an attempt to stem the offensive.

The al Qaeda-linked murderous Moslems posted on social media images of fighters from the Nusra Front heading towards the district, which the Syrian army has repeatedly said in recent days had not fallen into Death Eater hands.

Syrian television said the Syrian army had foiled an attempt by Sunni bully boyz to detonate an explosive-laden truck heading towards Jamiyat al Zahra and that it exploded before reaching its target.

Syrian Kurds retake northern villages from ISIS: activists
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Syrian Kurdish fighters have recaptured more than 10 villages seized by ISIS north of its de facto capital of Raqqa, aided by U.S.-led coalition air strikes, the activist group the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported Tuesday.

Fighters from the ultra-hardline Islamist group were, however, still in control of the town of Ain Issa, 50 km (30 miles), north of Raqqa city, which the jihadis seized from the YPG militia in an attack Monday, the Observatory reported.

That attack on YPG-held areas followed an intensification of Arclight airstrikes on Raqqa city over the weekend, which U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter said Monday were aimed at disrupting the Death Eaters' ability to respond to YPG advances north of Raqqa.

The YPG, a militia operating mostly in predominantly Kurdish areas of northern Syria towards the Turkish border, has emerged as the only significant partner in Syria for U.S.-led alliance fighting to tackle ISIS both there and in Iraq.

The Observatory, a British-based activist group reporting on Syria's four-year-old civil war, said the coalition had played an "effective role" in helping YPG forces recover 11 villages northeast of Ain Issa.

The YPG, backed by small Syrian rebel groups, has made significant gains against ISIS in Raqqa province in recent weeks, seizing Tal Abyad at the Turkish border on June 15 before advancing south to Ain Issa.

The YPG captured Ain Issa on June 23.

While the YPG has shown itself to be a potent force in the fight against ISIS, its effectiveness is seen to diminish beyond the predominantly Kurdish areas it was set up to defend in northern and northeastern Syria.

The United States aims to train and equip Syrian rebel fighters it deems politically moderate in order to fight ISIS in Syria. But the Pentagon said on June 18 the effort was moving more slowly than expected.

U.S. President Barack Obama
The point I was making was not that Grandmother harbors any racial animosity. She doesn’t. But she is a typical white person...
said Monday the United States would do more to train and equip "the moderate opposition."

Syria Turkmen move to form anti-Kurd army
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Syrian Turkmen military and political officials, who are close to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, have been moving to form a unified army in northern Syria capable of confronting the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), which Ankara views as a terror group.

"Turkmen fighting groups in Syria have taken the decision to offer greater support to each other and work to create a Turkmen army if conditions permit," Syrian Turkmen Assembly chief Abdel Rahman Mustafa told Turkish Anadolu news on Monday.

The Turkmen official's comments came as the Syrian Turkmen Assembly held a meeting in southern Turkey's Gaziantep that brought together Turkmen representatives from Aleppo, Tal Abyad, Jarabulus, Latakia, Idlib, Raqqa and the Golan.

Alaraby Aljadeed reported that the Turkmen military and civilian officials in the meeting decided to form a military council that reports to the Syrian Turkmen Assembly, a pro-opposition group with ties to the Turkish government.

The decision to form the council comes after calls emerged from Turkmen military formations to fight both ISIS and the Kurdish Democratic Union Party that controls the YPG, the London-based daily added.

Syrian Turkmen have already armed themselves in a series of brigades throughout Syria that are loosely affiliated with each other and count on about 10,000 gunnies in total, with the largest fighting units operating in the Aleppo province.

Turkey's security institutions maintain close links with the Turkmen units in Syria, providing special forces training to the brigades, which are affiliated with the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
and have taken part in operations in Aleppo, Idlib and outside Latakia.

Ahrar al-Sham seizes two checkpoints near Zabadani: statement
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...
Islamic movement on Tuesday has seized control of two checkpoint in Zabadani region, an advance came as Syrian regime army and its allied Hezbollah militia waging a major offensive on the border city with Leb started on Saturday.

In statement posted online, Ahrar al-Sham said it lauched a surprise attack on military bases situated on the enclaves of the embattled town of Zabadani which has been facing a fierce aerial and ground shelling for the fourth day.

The Islamist group said it had controlled al-Shallah and al-Qanater checkpoints, killing 10 army soldiers including two senior officers.

Also, Ahrar al-Sham said it had repelled an attack by Hezbollah near al-Zahra village, leaving 7 Hezbollah fighters killed, according ot the statement.

The regime army, backed by Hezbollah militia, has long sought to wrest control of Zabadani from the rebels who have held it since 2012, a year after the start of the Syrian revolution.

The offensive began on Saturday and was preceded by several days of aerial and artillery bombing of outposts held by a coalition of mainly Sunni Moslem jihadist fighters defending the city.

The Syrian army, aided by Hezbollah, last March captured the western mountains overlooking Zabadani but rebels who control the eastern hilltops have used rocket launchers to hit army and Hezbollah posts.

The latest offensive is part of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Despoiler of Deraa...
's effort to shore up his control over western Syria.

The capture of the city would secure a safe arms and troops corridor for Hezbollah, whose military role inside Syria has been growing steadily since the start of the conflict.

The area around the once popular resort city was part of a major supply route for weapons sent by Syria to Hezbollah before the 2011 outbreak of the Syrian conflict, which has killed more than 230,000 people.
