Somali Shebab Attack Army Camp, Killing Several
[AnNahar] Several Somali soldiers were killed overnight Sunday when Shabaab fighters attacked a base in the southern Kismayo region, officials and witnesses said Monday.

The attack is the latest in a string of assaults by the al-Qaeda-affiliated krazed killers, who last week stormed a base manned by the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
forces in Somalia (AMISOM), killing dozens.

Heavy gunfire was reported late Sunday for several hours, with the Shabaab briefly taking over the camp near Kismayo and beheading some of those captured before looting supplies and leaving, witnesses said.

"There was heavy fighting that left several of the soldiers dead," said security official Abdirashid Moalim, speaking from Kismayo.

"There were machine guns and rockets, and the fighting ended when the soldiers were overpowered," said Abdi Bakar, a witness, who said he had seen nine bodies.

On Friday, the Shabaab attacked an AMISOM base in Lego village, 100 kilometers (62 miles) northwest of the capital Mogadishu, manned by around 100 Burundian soldiers.

The Shabaab later boasted of having killed 80 soldiers, and carried off the bodies of 60 of them.

Witnesses reported seeing dozens of bodies, but there has been no formal confirmation of casualties and the toll was not possible to independently confirm.

Islamic forces of Evil commonly step up their attacks during Islam's holy fasting month of Ramadan.

Mali Calls for Calm after Jihadist Attack
[AnNahar] Mali's government appealed for calm on Monday after jihadists ransacked a town near the Ivory Coast border in the second attack in the south in less than three weeks.

Fighters carrying an Islamist flag took control of part of the town of Fakola on Sunday, attacking security forces and damaging a number of public buildings, including the town hall and cop shoppe, according to locals.

A government statement posted on Facebook on Monday said the army had been deployed to the area to hunt down the jihadists, who escaped after ending their brief occupation.

"The government of the republic of Mali strongly condemns these barbaric attacks aimed at sabotaging the actions for peace and stability in Mali," it said.

"The government... asks the population to remain calm and cooperate with the defence and security forces in their fight against terrorism."

Despite the recent signing of a peace accord between the government and a coalition of rebel groups, Mali remains deeply divided among rival armed factions and is battling an ongoing Islamist insurgency.

A local politician and residents said the attackers, who chanted verses from the Koran, were members of the jihadist militia Ansar Dine, which normally operates in Mali's northern desert.

Incursions in the south remain extremely rare, although the group was said to have been behind an ambush less than three weeks ago in the nearby town of Misseni, when jihadists killed a policeman and hoisted their flag at a military base. No deaths were reported in Sunday's attack.

Ansar Dine took control of northern Mali in 2012 alongside other jihadist factions linked to Al-Qaeda, before being ousted by a French-led international military intervention.

Tunisia makes first beach attack arrests as UK urges fightback
[Al Ahram] Tunisia said Monday it had made its first arrests after a beach massacre that killed 38 people, as European officials paid tribute to victims of the country's worst jihadist attack.

British Home Secretary Theresa May, speaking at the scene of Friday's gun attack at a Tunisian holiday resort, vowed that "the snuffies will not win" after London warned that Britannia's corpse count could rise to "around 30".

The massacre, claimed by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group, was the deadliest for Britannia since the 2005 London bombings, and there are fears it could inflict a devastating blow to Tunisia's vital tourism industry.

Interior Minister Hajem Gharsalli said the authorities had tossed in the calaboose
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
"a significant number of people from the network that was behind this terrorist criminal", referring to the lone gunman.

May travelled on Monday to the resort of Port el Kantaoui south of Tunis, and promised to fight extremism in the wake of the attack.

"We will be united in working together to defeat them but united also in working to defend our values," May said at a joint news conference with her German, French and Tunisian counterparts after visiting the scene of the killings.

"We are resolved... to defeat those who would do us harm, to defeat those who would undermine our freedom and democracy and to ensure that the snuffies do not win," she added.

May said there was "no evidence" to suggest the British casualties were targeted because of their nationality.

May and the German and French interior ministers, Thomas de Maiziere and Bernard Cazeneuve, joined Tunisian officials in laying a wreath in the sand near the Riu Imperial Marhaba Hotel where the attack happened.

Cazeneuve echoed May, promising that "we will win this war" and adding that La Belle France would help "ensure the development" of Tunisia's fragile economy.

A spokesperson for British Prime Minister David Cameron
... has stated that he is certainly a big Thatcher fan, but I don't know whether that makes me a Thatcherite, which means he's not. Since he is not deeply ideological he lacks core principles and is easily led. He has been described as certainly not a Pitt, Elder or Younger, but he does wear a nice suit so maybe he's Beau Brummel ...
, meanwhile, said Britannia had identified 18 of its nationals killed, but warned that the number may rise to "around 30".

ISIS Whacks Egypt’s Chief Prosecutor
Hat tip Michael Totten.
Egypt's top prosecutor was assassinated Monday morning, dying in an explosion near his home in Cairo, state-run media reported.

The blast targeted the convoy of Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat and destroyed several cars in the eastern neighborhood of Heliopolis. Six other people were reported injured.
From googled photos, it looks like quite a mess.
Initial media reports had called Barakat's injuries grave, but Health Ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar had insisted on state TV that none of the injuries was life-threatening.
He was just pining for the fjords...
Police said they had no details yet on the cause of the explosion.

Barakat's death came a day before the second anniversary of the mass protests against former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy. Several groups have claimed responsibility for attacks that have killed hundreds of police and soldiers over the past two years.

The Sinai-based, ISIS-affiliated State of Sinai -- formerly known as Ansar Bait El-Maqdis -- has claimed responsibility for the deadliest of these attacks.

The Muslim Brotherhood has denied government allegations that it has been responsible for the violence. But in May, the group endorsed a call by clerics to fight the July 2013 coup that overthrew Morsy by all means possible, including retribution against army officers, police officers, judges, journalists and politicians whom the Muslim Brotherhood accuses of being complicit in the killing of innocent civilians.
Which makes them terrorists...
Over the past several months, terrorists militants have targeted judges. In May, three judges were shot dead in North Sinai.

"All Egypt's judges have been targeted since the trials of terrorist groups and their members began," Abdalla Fathy, the head of Egypt's judges' club, told CNN in May. "But there are specific people that confronted the Muslim Brotherhood regime, and these were the ones initially targeted."

The prosecutor general's office is responsible for referring all criminal cases, including controversial terrorism and political cases, to court.

"His life is always threatened," the prosecutor general's office told CNN when asked about threats just before his death was announced.
An Nahar adds:
The bomb had destroyed several cars and blew out storefront windows, an AFP news hound at the scene said. At least five vehicles were completely gutted in the kaboom.

Health ministry front man Hossam Abdel Gaffar said eight people were maimed in the blast, including two civilians and five coppers guarding Barakat.

Bomb squad chief General Mohammed Gamal told AFP it was either a boom-mobile or a bomb concealed underneath a vehicle.

Barakat died of organ failure caused by his severe wounds, a doctor who treated him told AFP.

On Monday two more people were killed in Sinai when a roadside kaboom struck a bus transporting provincial officials, police said.
Update from Al Ahram at 6:40 a.m. ET:
Nine people, including two drivers and five members of the security forces, were maimed when a bomb hit the prosecutor's convoy near the military academy in the upscale district of Heliopolis, health ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar said. The blast damaged the fronts of nine houses and destroyed 31 vehicles, four of which were torched, a security source told state news agency MENA.

A boom-mobile had parked in a street near Barakat's house, through which his convoy would pass every day on his way to work, the justice ministry said. When it went off, Barakat's vehicle, along with others, were swept away and quickly caught fire.

15 civilians dead as Saudi warplanes hit Yemen again
[Iran Press TV] At least 15 civilians, including women and kiddies, were killed and several others injured when Saudi fighter jets launched a fresh round of Arclight airstrikes against various areas in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
as Riyadh pushed ahead with its atrocious onslaught against its impoverished southern neighbor.

Saudi military aircraft conducted attacks against a residential area in Sarwah district of Yemen's central province of Ma'rib, situated approximately 120 kilometers (74 miles) east of the Yemeni capital, Sana'a, on Monday. Nine members of a family bit the dust and three others sustained injuries, the Arabic-language al-Masirah satellite television network reported.

Six civilians, among them two women and three children, were also killed as Saudi warplanes struck Shibam Kawkaban district in the western Yemeni province of al-Mahwit, situated 53 kilometers (29 miles) northwest of of Sana'a.

Moreover, Saudi jets carried out more than twenty aerial attacks against Sahar and Majz districts of Yemen's northwestern province of Sa'ada, though there were no immediate reports of casualties and the extent of the damage inflicted.

5 suspects in Kuwait mosque attack face legal action
[Al Ahram] Kuwait's interior ministry on Monday referred five suspects linked to the suicide kaboom of a Shiite mosque to the prosecution service for legal action, a security official said.

"We have referred five suspects accused of assisting the jacket wallah to the public prosecution," the official told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
.

They include the driver who took the Saudi bomber to the mosque and the car's owner and his brother, all stateless people or bidoons.

They also include two Kuwaiti citizens -- the owner of the house used as a hideout for the driver, and his brother, the official said.

"More suspects are expected to be referred later," he added.

Security agencies have rounded up an unspecified number of suspects in connection with Friday's blast that killed 26 people dead maimed 227.

The public prosecution will now interrogate the suspects and then refer them for trial.

Kuwait's security agencies have "revised security plans and measures following the attack", said the official, adding that the new measures involve boosting security in general and around mosques in particular.

group's Saudi affiliate, the so-called Najd Province, claimed the bombing and identified the assailant as Abu Suleiman al-Muwahhid.

Kuwaiti authorities on Sunday said the real name of the bomber was Fahd Suleiman Abdulmohsen al-Qaba'a, who was born in 1992.

He entered the country through Kuwait Airport at dawn on Friday, the day of the bombing.

A handout photograph of Qaba'a showed a young bearded man wearing a traditional Saudi headdress.

's interior ministry, meanwhile, said that it has no records of the bomber who flew to Kuwait via Bahrain on the day of the attack.

IS on Monday released a video of Qaba'a in which he threatens Shiites in Kuwait with more attacks.

The head of parliament's budgets committee, MP Adnan Abdulsamad, said it had approved a government request for $400 million in urgent additional funding linked to the "prevailing situation" after the bombing.

Europe
Cyprus Sentences Lebanese to Six Years on Bomb Charges
[AnNahar] Cyprus on Monday sentenced to six years in jail a Lebanese man who pleaded guilty to terror charges linked to 8.2 tons of potential bomb-making material found in his home.

Judicial authorities said that Hussein Bassam Abdallah, who also has a Canadian passport, was a member of the military wing of Hizbullah.

The 26-year-old was sentenced to jail by a criminal court in the southern town of Larnaca after he pleaded guilty to terror charges.

In passing sentence judge Nicolaos Santis took into consideration the accused's remorse for what he did and what he said was his full cooperation with the authorities. But he stressed that Abdallah "played the role assigned to him within the broader design of things, so that eventually Hizbullah would be able to harm, through terrorist attacks, Israeli interests in Cyprus."

The charges against Abdallah covered the period 2012 until May 27, 2015, during which time the material was stockpiled in Cyprus.

Abdallah was arrested in a Larnaca suburb in May following a surveillance operation. Authorities seized some 8.5 tons of ammonium nitrate in the basement of his temporary home. Ammonium nitrate is a fertilizer that when mixed with other substances can be used to make explosives. The prosecution said this was a method used by Hizbullah.

Prosecution lawyer Polina Efthivoulou said Abdallah had admitted to being a member of Hizbullah's military wing and sent to Cyprus to ensure the ammonium nitrate was safely kept. She said the bomb-making material was intended for attacks against Israeli interests in Cyprus.

Foreign Minister Ioanis Kasoulides said during a visit to Israel earlier this month that the authorities believe they have thwarted a possible attack on Israeli targets. The island attracts thousands of tourists from nearby Israel every year. There is also an Israeli embassy in the capital Nicosia.

Defense lawyer Savvas Angelides said his client's role was only to check on the nitrate and to move it to another location -- not to carry out attacks. He also urged the court to show leniency, saying that his client cooperated with authorities and had decided to quit Hizbullah.

Investigative sources have said the amount of ammonium nitrate seized by authorities is the biggest anywhere in the world. Abdallah also had nearly 10,000 euros in his possession when caught.

Cyprus is not known for its militant activity despite its proximity to the Middle East. But in 2013, a Cypriot court sentenced a Lebanon-born Swedish man who admitted he was a Hizbullah member to four years in jail after he was found guilty of targeting Israelis on the island. A botched bomb attack on the Israeli embassy in 1988 claimed the lives of three people.

Turkey scrambles tanks to create 'buffer zone' on Syria border
[Iran Press TV] Amid talk of a potential Turkish military intervention in Syria, the Turkish military is deploying tanks to the common border to create a "military buffer zone" there.

On Monday, Turkish armed forces began amassing near the Turkish border city of Sanliurfa, AFP reported.

The agency said Turkish officials were also discussing the potential intervention.

The planned buffer zone stretches 110 kilometers (68 miles) long and 28 kilometers (17 miles) wide between the southern Turkish towns of Karkamis and Oncupinar.

The forces are deploying opposite the border town of Kobani, AFP said.

Turkish daily Yeni Safak said The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

Later on Monday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan

group after he helped his brother travel to the Middle East, allegedly to join the group.

The Justice Department said Alaa Saadeh bought his brother a plane ticket and drove him to New York's John F Kennedy Airport along with another person on May 5.

The brother, who was not identified, was arrested in Jordan on suspicion of supporting IS, which operates in Syria and Iraq, according to the Justice Department.

The Justice Department said the FBI and a Joint Terrorism Task Force had been investigating Saadeh, his brother and two other suspects as they allegedly conspired to travel overseas to join IS, also known as ISIL.

The other alleged co-conspirators were arrested earlier this month.

"In recorded conversations with an informant, Saadeh revealed his support for ISIL, including the terrorist organizations use of beheadings and mass killings to impose its violent agenda. Saadeh also stated that he planned to travel overseas with CC-2 'at some point,'" the Justice Department said, referring to an unnamed co-conspirator arrested June 13 in New York.

Saadeh was charged with conspiring to provide services and personnel to IS, aiding and abetting such attempts, and attempting to persuade a witness to lie to the FBI.

Each charge carries a maximum 20 years in prison.

The arrest was the latest in a string targeting IS sympathizers in the United States, often as a result of FBI sting operations.

Clash between two militant groups leaves 20 dead in Dera Bugti
[DAWN] An armed clash between two separatist groups left at least 20 murderous Moslems dead in Balochistan's

Kohlu and Dera Bugti districts late Monday night. The local administration, however, could not verify the number of casualties.
"It was a whole bunch, though!"
"Yes people have been killed, but we are not sure about the number of casualties", a levies official told Dawn.com via telephone.

The clash took place in Pir Suri Darbar and Han Nullah, the two areas located at the border between Dera Bugti and Kohlu districts of the restive province.

Both sides used heavy weapons against each other for a long time.
"Hours, even!"
A security official who declined to be named since he was not authorised to speak to media told Dawn.com that all the dead murderous Moslems belonged to two Baloch separatist groups.
"Aaaiiieee! I am undone!"
"No, yer not!"
"I'm not?"
"No. Get up."

Several murderous Moslems were also injured during the exchange of fire, he said.
"Aaaiiieee! I am gravely injured!"
The situation in the area remained tense owing to the clash and people remained confined to their homes as result of firing.
"I am so... so... tense!"
Dera Bugti and Kohlu districts are considered to be the most sensitive districts of Balochistan. Militants in the area have been targeting vital national installations and security forces in the area for the past several years.

Iraq
Official: ISIS booby-traps copies of Quran in Diyala
[Rudaw] After capturing the main ISIS base in north Diyala province, Iraqi security forces Monday found a series of Korans booby-trapped with explosives by the jihadis.

Speaking in a presser Monday, Sadiq Husseini, the head of the security committee in Diyala, announced that Iraqi forces backed by Shiite Hashd al-Shaabi militias found the explosive Korans inside houses, buildings and military bases previously held by ISIS.

The Diyala security committee has not published photos of the booby-trapped Moslem holy books.

Similar booby-trapped Korans were repeatedly found after the liberation of the Diyala areas of Saadia and Jalawla in December.

Most of Diyala is now under the control of the Iraqi government or Kurdish factions, but ISIS forces have in the past attacked civilians and government officials there.

Pitao tipster to get P5.6M bounty
[Inquirer] The person who tipped off the Philippine military regarding the whereabouts of New People's Army commander Leoncio Pitao will get the P5.6-million bounty offered for the capture, dead or alive, of the communist leader.

Maj. Gen. Eduardo Año, commander of the Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division, said the tipster directed security forces to Pitao's location, helping end a months-long operation targeting the most notorious communist guerrilla leader in Southern Mindanao. He said the military and the Philippine National Police would process the reward and release it to the tipster.

Pitao, also known as "Commander Parago", was killed in a encounter with Army Special Forces on Sunday afternoon, according to Col. Harold Cabreros, commander of the Army’s 103rd Infantry Brigade. Cabreros said, "He was cornered. His comrades left him behind and fled after the fighting."

A woman believed to be Pitao's medic was also killed in the clash. She was indentified as Kyle Limpag of Compostella Valley province.

Año said the killing of Pitao was a huge blow to the NPA in the Davao region. He said, "This is really a huge setback. This is going to be the fall of the NPA in the Davao region."

NPA Southern Mindanao political director Simon Santiago said the insurgent group saluted Pitao for dedicating his entire life to "the service of the people."

Santiago said Pitao, despite his deteriorating health, preferred to fight instead of seeking medical treatment in the city. He said, "The (military) are wrong when they say Parago's death will weaken the revolutionary movement."

Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte consoled Pitao's family on Monday following confirmation of the militant leader's death. He described Pitao as a "warrior and a friend."

Duterte said, "I assure the communists, as long as they are not combatants, that they can come here and commiserate with the family."

Duterte said he believed Pitao's fall was "just a matter of time."

“You cannot be lucky all the time. There’s always a time to die," he said.

Syria rebel attack on Damascus kills 4: monitor
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] A rebel mortar attack killed four civilians on Sunday in the Syrian capital as government forces battled Islamic State

group jihadists in the northern city of Hasakeh, a monitor said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said a mortar round struck Revolution Street in central Damascus, killing four people and wounding 13.

Syria's state-run SANA news agency also reported the attack but said three people died.

In Hasakeh, regime troops pressed an offensive they launched on Saturday to dislodge IS from districts they have seized in the southern part of the city.

The Britannia-based Observatory, which has been monitoring the Syrian conflict since it erupted four years ago, said the troops and Death Eaters were locked in fierce fighting Sunday.

The jihadist group blew up an explosive-rigged vehicle in Hasakeh, the monitor said, without mentioning casualties.

IS seized two neighbourhoods in southern Hasakeh on Thursday in a new attempt to seize the placid provincial capital, causing tens of thousands of people to flee, according to the United Nations

government reinforcements have poured into Hasakeh, and Kurdish fighters, who control the city jointly with regime loyalists, have also taken part in the battles.

IS also tried to seize Hasakeh last month, but was pushed back by government forces.

The Observatory, which relies on a network of sources inside Syria, also reported on Sunday that the number of civilians killed by IS in the border town of Kobane had risen to 223.

Opposition media exaggerate 'South Storm' gains in Daraa: rebel commander
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] The battle of "South Storm" started 4 days ago by Daraa's rebels to liberate their city from the regime forces. They have formed a central operation room with 7 sections, like emergency, medical, media, information and coordination section.

Besides that a front man of the battle and a media room were established as well to control and organize the media messages to serve the battle.

However,
Switzerland makes more than cheese...
on ground achievement is still moderate, some explained it by the big size of regime's forces, while others see that chaos and mess in media and recklessness in messages and news, played very bad role in the battle. For example, the time for launching the battle was announced days before the actual start by some media figures, while only hours after the battle start, many activists announced liberating wide areas of Daraa and killing hundreds of regime's soldiers.

Shafie Abazid, a member of the media room for the battle of South Storm explained that mess and unorganized media coverage of the battle and announcing sensitive information like the beginning of the battle, helped the regime to take cautions and get ready to the battle, and hitting the city with hundreds of barrel bombs and rockets 2 days prior to the battle beginning.

Some activists used some sensitive information about the battle's details they have to achieve a scoop. Moreover, some activists surfaced videos of festivities between rebels and regime forces, which helped the regime to identify the bases of the rebels.

In his talk to Zaman al-Wasl, Abazid mentioned that the room of the central leadership have agreed on adopting a central media strategy to unite the battle's media coverage to concentrate on the expression of "South Storm" and to prevent publishing any video or statement out of the room and its website, however, only some groups abide by that decision.

In the same time, the operation room was not able to restrain the media chaos and publishing inaccurate news, which cause disappointment for many people after discovering the real situation.

Abazid demanded punishing any media body or activist help in publishing details of the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
"FSA" and requested relying only on the information and official statements of the Media office for the South Storm battle or the official front man.

group boom-mobiles killed 12 Syrian troops and bandidos Lions of Islam in the northeastern city of Hasakeh where the turbans have taken two districts, AFP reported.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said more than 30 civilians have been killed in the festivities, with an increase in the corpse count expected.

On the eastern side of Hasakeh city, Kurdish People's units (YPG) foiled an ISIS suicide boom-mobile in the neighbourhood of Ghweran and captured three villages from ISIS fighters, according to Al Jazeera.

Syrian army retakes parts of Hasakeh from IS: Monitor
[Al Ahram] Syrian regime forces took back several parts of a neighbourhood in the northeastern city of Hasakeh from the Islamic State

group on Monday, but heavy festivities continued, a monitor said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britannia-based monitor, said regime forces had seized parts of Al-Nashwa district in southern Hasakeh, which IS fighters entered last Thursday.

But it said festivities were continuing around the neighbourhood with "shelling by both sides and air raids on the area where fighting is taking place".

A security source in Damascus confirmed that fighting was still ongoing in the district.

"In Hasakeh, combat is continuing today, and the army is pursuing Daesh wherever they find them," he said, using the Arabic acronym for IS.

"Daesh is present mostly in parts of the Al-Nashwa district. They have tried to take other areas, but the army has pushed them back," he added.

He said "deaders are still falling" in Hasakeh but gave no specific toll.

IS launched a new bid to take Hasakeh city, a scenic provincial capital, last week, entering from the south and seizing two neighbourhoods.

The city is divided between the control of regime forces and Kurdish fighters, who have largely kept out of the latest round of fighting.

They have restricted their activity to defending the mostly northern neighbourhoods under their control.

The Observatory said on Monday that IS forces had shelled several Kurdish-controlled districts in the city, but there were no initial reports of casualties.
