US Sends Troops to Thwart the Rooskies
The Pentagon is sending about 600 troops to Eastern Europe in response to Russia's incursion into Ukraine, Rear Adm. John Kirby announced Tuesday.

A company-sized contingent of U.S. paratroopers from the 173rd Airborne Brigade will arrive in Latvia on Thursday, the U.S. embassy there announced Wednesday. A similar number of soldiers, about 150, are scheduled to land in Poland on Wednesday. Estonia and Latvia will also host American soldiers for joint training missions in the coming days.
Then we'll have Ukraine boxed in!
As Yosemite Sam once said, "come out out here, rabbit! I got yas outnumbered one-to-one!"
The move drew measured praise from Rep. Buck McKeon, a California Republican and chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.

"This as a small step in the right direction," McKeon said. "By rearranging U.S. forces already deployed in Europe, the president is doing something, however incremental, to reassure our allies. It might have more deterrent value if he included the Ukrainian military in the exercises. It remains to be seen if this move of 600 troops comes in time to make an impression on the tens of thousands of Russian troops on Ukraine's borders."
Remains to be seen? Really? By whom?

South Korea: 'Increased Activity In N. Korea Nuclear Site'
[Ynet] South Korea said Tuesday that it identified an increased activity in North Korea nuclear test site and warned that it could well be preparing to carry out a fourth nuclear test.

"Our military is currently detecting a lot of activity in and around the Punggye-ri nuclear test site," said Defense Ministry front man Kim Min-Seok.

Kim stressed that North Korea's nuclear weapons programme was at a stage where it could conduct a test "at any moment" once the order was given by the leadership in Pyongyang.

As said before, iff the US desires the Cold War-esque status quo in NE Asia to change, + for inter-Korean reunification to be finally + formally achieved, then it may be the interests of the US-Allies to allow NOKOR to have Nukes.

Which in turn would justify SOKOR [ + other] having Nukes as well as Missle Defense, i.e. US-led GMD-TMD - the drawback, however, is PERT, MSM-NET VERIFIED "MAHANIST", RESURGENT OLD + NUCLEAR POWER RISING CHINA + ITS "POST-US", FUTURE WORLD #1 GEOPOL AMBITIONS IN THIS ERA OF OWG-NWO + "GLOBALISM" + GLOBAL FED UNION-LEADING "CO-SUPERPOWERS", ETC.

China desires its PLA-centric strategic access thru the "First Island Chain" + is not taking "no" for an answer - NOT FROM ASEAN = EAST ASIA NATIONS, + NOT EITHER FROM THE US.

SOMETHING HAS TO GIVE., I.E. SOMEBODY(S) MAY HAVE TO LOSE SOVEREIGN TERRITORY(S) FOR THE SAKE OF PEACE + AVOIDING MAJOR CONVENTIONAL ANDOR NUCLEAR WAR.

Europe
France to stop flow of militants to Syria
A clever decision, to be sure, but how?
[Iran Press TV] La Belle France plans to stop its citizens from joining the turbans in Syria, fearing they could threaten its security after returning home.

The government will take "all kinds of measures to dissuade, to stop, to punish those who would be tempted to go fighting in places where they have no place," French President Francois Hollande
...the Socialist president of La Belle France, an economic bad joke for la Belle France but seemingly a foreign policy realist...
said on Tuesday.
Ah. By doing it...somehow.
The planned policies include asking minors to present parental consent for leaving the country.

There will also be an increased surveillance of bully boy websites, which recruit Death Eaters, as well as a system to encourage parents to signal suspicious behavior in their children.

La Belle France estimates the number of its nationals directly or indirectly involved in the conflict in Syria at about 700.

French and other western officials are concerned that the Death Eaters, who have obtained military skills in Syria, would return to their countries and conduct terrorist attacks on home soil.

A British defense study showed last year that about 100,000 Death Eaters, fragmented into 1,000 groups, were fighting in Syria against the government and people.

No-fly list used by FBI to coerce Muslims into informing, lawsuit claims
[The Guardian] Naveed Shinwari hasn't seen his wife in 26 months. He suspects it's because he refused to become an informant for the FBI.

In February 2012 Shinwari, who has lived in the US since he was 14, flew to Afghanistan to get married. He says that before he could get home to Omaha, Nebraska, he was twice detained and questioned by FBI agents who wanted to know if he knew anything about national security threats. A third FBI visit followed when he got home.

The following month, after Shinwari bought another plane ticket for a temporary job in Connecticut, he couldn't get a boarding pass. Police told him he had been placed on the US no-fly list, although he had never in his life been accused of breaking any law. Another FBI visit soon followed, with agents wanting to know about the "local Omaha community, did I know anyone who's a threat", he says.

"I'm just very frustrated, [and I said] what can I do to clear my name?" recalls Shinwari, 30. "And that's where it was mentioned to me: you help us, we help you. We know you don't have a job; we'll give you money."
Strange, or possibly not so, citing "missed opportunities", this recent article and report indicates the Tsarnaev brothers were never placed on the No-Fly list.

Govt Must Turn Over Info On CIA Prisons To Defense
[Ynet] U.S. prosecutors must turn over never-revealed details about the time a Guantanamo Bay detainee spent in secret CIA prisons after his arrest in connection with the deadly attack on the USS Cole in Yemen, according to a military judge's order released Tuesday.

The order was a victory for defense lawyers representing Abd al Rahim al-Nashiri, who is accused of orchestrating the Oct. 12, 2000, bombing. Al-Nashiri, who was born in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, has been held at the US military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, since 2006.

India-Pakistan
Gen Beg warns of Egypt-like change in Pakistan
[The Nation (Pak)] Former Army chief Gen Mirza Aslam Beg
...the occasionally incoherent retired four-star general who was the Chief of Army Staff of the Mighty Pak Army, succeeding the creepy General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, after the latter was rubbed out died in an air crash in 1988. The general was involved up to his hairy ears in the Mehran bank scandal, shuffling millions in public money to buy or lease politicians, and is believed one of the prime movers in the sale of Pak nuclear technology to Iran. He ranks second only to Hamid Gul in the volume and flavor of his anti-Western vitriol..
on Monday proposed a three-point formula to normalise the tense civil-military relations, warning the government of an Egypt-like change in case urgent steps were not taken in accordance with his suggestions.

He said the high treason case against Gen Pervez Perv Musharraf
... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ...
should be dropped and he should be allowed to go abroad; the Pemra should ensure that no TV channel telecasts programmes that undermine the prestige of the army; and ministers or other leaders should be barred from speaking against the people who defend the country even at the cost of their lives. Talking to The Nation, he said the civil setup would face no threat and the situation would normalise within no time if the government acted in the light of his suggestions. Otherwise, he said, a military general would take over, just like Gen El-Sisi did in Egypt, and the United States would support the change for its own interests.

Gen Beg was of the firm view that the Constitution would not be able to block a military intervention if the rulers did not give the army its due respect. "ZulifikarAli Bhutto had said the 1973 Constitution would bury martial laws, but it was the martial law that buried Bhutto".

Critical of the flawed decision-making process of the present government, Gen Beg said the rulers did not properly calculate the likely negative fallout of their policies. According to him, the government takes decisions first and thinks later. As a result, its damage control measures don't yield results. Gen Beg said the army was like a family and Gen Musharraf was its former head. The way he was insulted created unrest in the rank and file which forced Gen Raheel Sharif to issue a statement that army will defend its honour and dignity. Compared to the anger of the soldiers, Gen Raheel's statement was 'very soft' however, he claimed.

He said it was after Gen Raheel's statement all government functionaries had gone on defensive and they were offering explanations that they did not want to insult the army. Such people should have been careful before issuing derogatory statements, said Gen Beg.

The army, he said, would not tolerate the way Gen Musharraf was being singled out for trial. Similarly, he said, the former president-COAS could not be held responsible for 'high treason' as what he was accused of having done did not fall in this category. A treason charge on a former army chief was just not tolerable.

Making a strong plea for permission to Gen Musharraf to go out of Pakistain, Gen Beg said if a man like Hussain Haqqani could be allowed to leave the country despite a very serious charge

SC suspends ECP's Ludhianvi notification for NA-89
[DAWN] The Supreme Court of Pakistain on Tuesday suspended Election Commission of Pakistain's (ECP) notification that declared Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat
...which is the false nose and plastic mustache of the murderous banned extremist group Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain, whatcha might call the political wing of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi...
(ASWJ) chief Ahmed Ludhianvi to be the winner from the NA-89 constituency, DawnNews reported.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali heard the petition that was submitted by Pakistain Mohammedan League -- Nawaz (PML-N) member Sheikh Akram who was originally elected on the National Assembly seat from Jhang.

Akram's counsel Makhdoom Ali Khan argued before the bench that the tribunal had not given any explanation as to why it had declared Ludhianvi as the winner from the constituency.

Therefore, the court directed the tribunal to hear all appeals submitted by concerned parties in this matter and make a decision within three months' time.

Earlier, the election tribunal had disqualified Akram from NA-89 and declared runner-up Ludhianvi the winner. Consequently, the ECP had issued a notification announcing the tribunal's decision.

Defence ministry moves application against Geo TV network
[DAWN] The Ministry of Defence has moved Pakistain Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) to take action against Geo TV network, for leveling allegations against an intelligence agency of Pakistain.

According to an official source, the application has been moved following approval from Federal Minister for Defence, Khawaja Asif under the PEMRA Ordinance 2002, section 33 and 36 to take legal action against the channel management for framing allegations on the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and its Chief, Lieutenant General Zaheerul Islam.

The network had aired a portrait of the ISI chief, alleging that he was responsible for the attack on anchor and senior journalist Hamid Mir.

The injured journalist had informed a friend, family members and the management of Geo TV, about a possible attack on him.

Mir was injured after his arrival in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
on Saturday when unknown gunnies opened fire on the vehicle he was traveling in near Natha Khan area on Shahrah-e-Faisal road.

Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
had decided to constitute a three-member judicial commission to probe into the attack.

A formal request in this regard was later sent to Chief Justice Jillani to nominate three members for the commission.

Israel to Send Call-Up Papers to Christian Arabs
[An Nahar] Israel is to start sending call-up papers to all Christian Arabs of military service age, army radio reported Tuesday, angering Arab politicians who accused the government of seeking to divide Christians from Moslems.

Military service will remain voluntary for Israel's 130,000 Christian Arabs as it is for its more than 1.3 million Moslem Arabs.

But commanders hope that the routine sending out of call-up papers will help boost the numbers volunteering from around 100 a year at present to 1,000, the radio reported.

Palestinian Unity Talks Begin In Gaza
[Ynet] First PLO delegation since 2007 festivities between Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,, Fatah heads to Gazoo for Paleostinian unity talks.

The Paleostine Liberation Organization (PLO) sent a delegation to Gazoo on Tuesday to negotiate unity with bad boy group Hamas for the first time since their 2007 conflict, potentially boosting Fatah leader and Paleostinian president the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
's position.

Few Paleostinians expect a breakthrough in the deadlock that has paralysed Paleostinian politics, and many have low expectations of any resolution to the seemingly endless duel.

A deal could restore a measure of illusory sovereignty to Abbas in Gazoo and boost his negotiating power with Israel in any future peace talks, although such a partnership could also provoke a backlash from Israel against the PLO in the West Bank.

The reconciliation mission coincided with a meeting between Abbas's Fatah-led group and Israeli peace negotiators in Jerusalem to try to extend talks beyond an April 29 deadline.

Hamas and Fatah have failed since 2011 to implement an Egyptian-brokered unity deal because of disputes over power-sharing and the handling of conflict with Israel.

Azzam Al-Ahmed, a senior Fatah official, denied that the attempt to negotiate a deal with Hamas was designed merely to strengthen Abbas's hand in peace talks with Israel.

"We want to end the division whether there is negotiation (with Israel) or there isn't. We want to build Gazoo and the West Bank and end the (Israeli) occupation," Al-Ahmed told official Paleostinian news agency WAFA.

A Hamas big turban based in Egypt arrived in Gazoo on Monday to prepare for talks aimed at reaching a reconciliation agreement between Hamas and Fatah. Moussa Abu Marzouk, responsible for external affairs, met with Hamas prime minister Ismail Haniyeh
...became Prime Minister after the legislative elections of 2006 which Hamas won. President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed Haniyeh from office on 14 June 2007 at the height of the Fatah-Hamas festivities, but Haniyeh did not acknowledge the decree and continues as the PM of Gazoo while Abbas maintains a separate PM in the West Bank...
ahead of a visit by Fatah officials on later this week.

If Paleostinian unity talks end with a deal, paving the way to hold elections and plan a national strategy towards Israel, not only might Abbas gain negotiating power, but Hamas, hemmed in by an Israeli-Egyptian blockade, might become less isolated.

The two sides disagree on policy toward Israel. Islamist Hamas refuses to renounce using force against the Jewish state and secular Western-backed Fatah wants a deal with Israel to set up a Paleostinian state in Gazoo, the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem - lands Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East War.

Both Hamas and Fatah also persistently trade blame over their arrests of rival members. Dozens of prisoners have been held by each side since Hamas took control of Gazoo and Fatah remained the predominant party in the Israeli-occupied West Bank following Hamas's surprising win in 2006 parliamentary polls.

"If Fatah possesses the political will to implement the agreement, we would be going forward on the right direction to please our people," Hamas front man Sami Abu Zuhri
...a senior spokesman for Hamas. Zuhri gained notoriety in 2006 when he dropped his money belt containing somewhere between 640,000 and 900,000 euros, which was confiscated by Paleostinian security and customs officials at a routine border crossing from Egypt to Gaza. The news brought competing Hamas and Fatah forces to the crossing checkpoint for an epic face-making and hollering contest...
told Rooters.

"My feeling is closer to pessimism than optimism," Paleostinian Gazoo political analyst Talal Okal said.
And so it should be. Other than the original formation of the PLO and the idea of killing lotsa juices, what have the Palestinians ever agreed upon?

Watchdog Says Syria Chemical Handover at 86.5%
[An Nahar] Syria has handed over 86.5 percent of its chemical weapons, the global chemical watchdog said on Tuesday, amid new claims that Damascus may have launched attacks with an industrial chemical earlier this month.

The latest update comes five days before a self-imposed cut-off of April 27, by which Damascus aimed to have its stockpile removed from Syrian soil, ahead of a June 30 deadline to destroy it.

A further consignment of chemicals was delivered to the main Syrian port of Latakia on Tuesday, raising "the overall portion of chemicals removed from Syria to 86.5 percent of the total", the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) said in a statement.

"Today's consignment was the 17th to date and the sixth consignment since April 4, making a significant acceleration in the pace of deliveries to Latakia this month," the Hague-based OPCW added.

Upon arrival, the chemicals were "immediately" put onto cargo ships and "removed from the country."

"This latest consignment (is) encouraging," said OPCW director general Ahmet Uzumcu.

"We hope that the remaining two or three consignments are delivered quickly to permit destruction operations to get under way in time to meet the mid-year deadline for destroying Syria's chemical weapons."

succeeded on Tuesday in gathering the support of the March 14 alliance in his run for presidency, on the eve of a parliamentary session dedicated for holding the first round of vote on a new head of state.

March 14 leaders convened in the evening at the Center House, and declared Geagea as their candidate for presidency.

"We discussed the presidential elections and we stressed the importance of respecting constitutional deadlines," the alliance said in a statement after the talks.

"And after communicating with all parties, leaders and political figures in the coalition, we confirm supporting the nomination of Geagea and we consider that his candidacy is a representation of the principles on which the Cedar Revolution and March 14 were based," it added.

"We hope all MPs will consider (Wednesday's session) an opportunity to cross towards establishing a state in Leb."

MTV noted that MPs Marwan Hamadeh, Antoine Saad and Fouad al-Saad attended March 14 coalition's meeting, hours after Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Wally Jumblat

it was not immediately clear whether they will vote for Geagea or Helou.

The Kataeb Party stated that it will attend Wednesday's parliamentary session aimed at electing a new president.
