Civil rights activist murdered in Tripoli
[Libya Herald] A popular blogger and civil rights activist, Intisar Al-Hasiri has been found murdered in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, along with her elderly aunt .

The bodies of both women were discovered in a car that had reportedly been in the same place for two days.

Hasairi was a leading member of Tanweer ("Enlightenment") an organization that devoted itself principally to education, music and the arts. In 2013 it staged Tripoli's first second-hand book fair in Martyrs' Square. Last year however the event was cancelled for lack of a sponsor.

Hasairi was also a celebrated blogger. Her Facebook page had more than ten thousand followers as well as two thousand "Friends". One of the latter said "She was fearless. She was not afraid to say what she thought about a whole range of subjects, including politics. She was not a shy person and she did not wear a hejab".

New York residents arrested over ISIS extremist plot
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Three New York residents have been jugged
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
for plotting to join forces of Evil fighting in Syria and two threatened to carry out attacks within the United States, officials said Wednesday.

Abdurasul Hasanovich Juraboev, 24, Akhror Saidakhmetov, 19, and Abror Habibov, 30, have been charged with attempt and conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization.

The teenage Saidakhmetov, a Kazakh citizen, was arrested Wednesday at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport attempting to board a flight to Istanbul, before traveling onto Syria.

U.S. prosecutors said he recently expressed intent to buy a machine gun and shoot US coppers and FBI agents if thwarted in his plan to join the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) fighting in Syria.

They also accused Juraboev of being prepared to attack within the United States, and said he posted a message online in August 2014 offering to kill the U.S. president if ordered to do so by ISIS.

All three are Brooklyn residents.

The arrests come a month after ISIS front man Abu Mohammad al-Adnani called on Moslems in the West to carry out new attacks and amid growing concern about the homegrown turban threat in the West.

"The flow of imported muscle to Syria represents an evolving threat to our country and to our allies," said Loretta Lynch, U.S. attorney for the eastern district of New York.

"We will vigorously prosecute those who attempt to travel to Syria to wage violent jihad," she said.

"Anyone who threatens our citizens and our allies, here or abroad, will face the full force of American justice."

Federal prosecutors in New York said Juraboev bought a plane ticket to travel from New York to Istanbul next month, also planning to make his way to Syria and wage war on behalf of ISIS.

The third suspect, Habibov, is accused of helping to fund Saidakhmetov's efforts to join the Syrian jihadists and is scheduled to appear in a court in Florida later on Wednesday.

In late January IS front man Adnani called on Moslems in the West to carry out new attacks after 17 people were killed in assaults on January 7-9 in Gay Paree against a magazine and a kosher supermarket.

"We promise that in the Christian bastions they will continue to live in a state of alert, of terror, of fear and insecurity ... You have seen nothing yet," he said in a recording posted online.

'Most areas of Mohmand cleared of militants'
[DAWN] Mohmand Rifles Commandant Colonel Umar Haider Bokhari has said that the security forces with the support of local rustics have cleared most areas of Mohmand Agency
... Named for the Mohmand clan of the Sarban Pahstuns, a truculent, quarrelsome lot. In Pakistain, the Mohmands infest their eponymous Agency, metastasizing as far as the plains of Peshawar, Charsadda, and Mardan. Mohmands are also scattered throughout Pakistan in urban areas including Karachi, Lahore, and Quetta. In Afghanistan they are mainly found in Nangarhar and Kunar...
of murderous Moslems and restored peace there.
"I dun blivit!"
R. Ricardo, Philosopher

Talking to journalists here, he said that the security forces along with the local peace committees and the political administration had set up checkposts in the agency to restrict the movement of krazed killers.

"Mohmand Agency is a peaceful area and the security forces have only imposed night curfew to check the movement of murderous Moslems in the area," said Col Bokhari, adding that the government's writ had been restored to the tribal agency after successful military operations.

He said that the sacrifices of the security forces and rustics had paved the way for restoration of the state writ in the agency.

He expressed the confidence that Mohmand rustics would continue supporting the government efforts for restoration of peace in the agency, and would not allow anti-state elements to regroup in future.

He urged the rustics to keep watch in their respective areas and inform security forces upon seeing any suspected element.

He urged the displaced tribal elders of Mohmand Agency to return to their homes without fear.

The commandant said the Mohmand Agency had vast potential in marble and mining sectors, which, if properly explored, could help improve the local economy.

He said that work on 17-kilomter-long road from Ghalanai to Nahaqi would be completed at the end of current month.

ASWJ cleric gunned down in Korangi
[DAWN] KARACHI: A holy man, said to be a district president of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat
...which is the false nose and plastic mustache of the murderous banned extremist group Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain, whatcha might call the political wing of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi...
, was rubbed out and his associate maimed in Korangi in an attack carried out apparently on sectarian grounds on Tuesday, police and party said.

They said that Maulana Shabbir Ahmed Hyderi, 42, along with an associate, Khan Din, 35, was going to Malir from Korangi to attend an ASWJ meeting. When their cycle of violence reached near Singer Chowrangi, gunnies travelling in a car intercepted them, fired shots and fled.

They sustained multiple bullet wounds in the chest and abdomen and were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors declared Maulana Hyderi dead on arrival. Mr Din's condition was also critical and he was admitted for treatment, said Dr Seemin Jamali, the head of JPMC's emergency department.

"Moulana Hyderi was the president of the ASWJ's Korangi chapter and his murder seems to be sectarian in nature," said Landhi SP Akhtar Farooq.

A spokesperson for the ASWJ said the slain holy man was the district president of Korangi and also a member of the party's majlis-e-shoora for the Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
division and Mr Din was also an office-bearer.

They were on their way to Malir from Korangi to attend a party meeting, he added.

Activists of the ASWJ protested outside the mortuary of the JPMC and blocked the road for some time.

Four TTP militants sentenced to death for Lahore prison attack
[DAWN] An anti-terrorism court on Wednesday sentenced four Death Eaters to death for killing 10 prison staff during an attack in Lahore three years ago, officials said.

The four men belonging to Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP), a bad boy group with links to Al Qaeda, rubbed out the officers as they slept during a dawn raid on their hostel in July 2012.

"The court has awarded death sentence to four Death Eaters for the 2012 attack on jail staff," special prosecutor Sheikh Saeed told AFP. A court official confirmed the sentences. The convicts were also fined Rs1.8 million each, he added.

The four TTP bad boys, all in their 20s, confessed to carrying out the attack on the residential quarters for prison staff in the densely populated Lahore suburb of Ichra, Saeed said.

After killing 10 during the dawn raid armed with Kalashnikov rifles and hand grenades, they then stormed another building where around 30 police prison officers were sleeping.

About a year after the attack they were caught with Kalashnikov rifles and hand grenades at a bus stand in Lahore.
Many were maimed as they fled into neighbouring houses in a bid to save themselves from the volley of bullets, Saeed added.

ISIS militant 'Jihadi John' identified as Kuwaiti-born Briton
[HAARATZ] Rooters -- The "Jihadi John" masked fighter who fronted Islamic State beheading videos is Mohammed Emwazi, a Kuwaiti-born Briton from a prosperous family who grew up in London and graduated with a computer programming degree, according to the Washington Post.

In videos released by Islamic State, also known as ISIS, the black-clad militant brandishing a knife and speaking with an English accent appears to have decapitated hostages including Americans, Britons and Syrians.

The Washington Post said Emwazi, who used the videos to threaten the West and taunt leaders such as U.S. President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron, was believed to have traveled to Syria around 2012 and to have later joined ISIS.
No doubt he's attempting to reach out, trying to find meaningful employment. Culinary skills? I recommend the State Department executive dining room.
As a bonus, it's likely been certified 'Halal'.

Southeast Asia
Seven killed in clashes with Abu Sayyaf
[Bangkok Post] A military assault against Islamic militants on a remote southern island of the Philippines sparked a day-long battle on Wednesday that left five militants and two soldiers dead.

The military said it used artillery and helicopter gunships as they continued a months-long offensive to wipe out the Abu Sayyaf. Ensign Chester Ramos said, "Our operations are now intended to totally eliminate the lawless element."

He said local security forces last year "polished" their plans to launch a series of attacks against the group starting in December.

A "battalion-sized unit" of soldiers were involved in Wednesday's clash with about 300 Abu Sayyaf fighters, according to the military's public affairs chief in Manila, Lieutenant Colonel Harold Cabunoc. In the Philippines, about 500 troops typically make up a battalion.

Cabunoc said, "We are on the offense... we ambushed them. It is a running gun battle," adding the fighting started in the morning and continued throughout the day. He said five Islamit militants were killed but two soldiers died as well, and nine others were injured.

The fighting took place near Patikul town on Jolo, a heavily forested island that has been a longtime Abu Sayyaf stronghold.

The Observatory had reported the fighter's death on Tuesday, but was unable to confirm his nationality until Wednesday.

"Dozens of Westerners have joined the YPG's ranks. There are foreigners fighting on all sides of Syria's war," said Abdel Rahman.

"They are volunteers, they don't get paid anything at all," he told AFP.

"The YPG isn't actively recruiting foreigners, but people from countries like Canada, the United States, Britannia, Spain, Australia, Holland, Austria and La Belle France have travelled to Syria to join their ranks," he said.

He is Mohammed Emwazi, a Kuwaiti-born British man in his mid-20s from west London, who was previously known to British security services.

British police declined to comment, citing ongoing investigations.

Emwazi first appeared in a video last August, when he apparently killed the US journalist James Foley.

He was later thought to have been pictured in the videos of the beheadings of US journalist Steven Sotloff, British aid worker David Haines, British taxi driver Alan Henning, and American aid worker Abdul-Rahman Kassig, also known as Peter.

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) group has released a video showing bully boyz using sledgehammers to smash ancient artefacts in Iraq's northern city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, describing the relics as idols that must be removed.

The destructions are part of a campaign by IS forces of Evil who have destroyed a number of shrines, including Moslem holy sites, in order to eliminate what they view as heresy.

They are also believed to have sold ancient artefacts on the black market in order to finance their bloody campaign across the region.

The five-minute video shows a group of bearded men inside the Mosul Museum using hammers and drills to destroy several large statues, which are then shown chipped and in pieces.

The video then shows a black-clad man at a nearby archaeological site inside Mosul, drilling through and destroying a winged-bull Assyrian protective deity that dates back to the 7th-century BC.

The video was posted on social media accounts affiliated with IS and though it could not be independently verified it appeared authentic.

group (IS/ISIS), the Kurdish forces of the People's Protection Units (YPG) took control of more villages in the countryside of Tel Hamis south of Qamishli, in northeastern Syria, local sources reported on Wednesday.

Speaking to ARA News, civil rights activist Ismail Ali from Qamishli countryside said that the Kurdish forces achieved "remarkable advancement" with the support of the U.S.-led international coalition's warplanes and the Kurdish Peshmerga forces.

"Subsequent to YPG's control of several villages in the vicinity of Tel Hamis, the Kurdish forces are approaching the town of Tel Hamis itself, which is considered the main strongholds of the IS snuffies in the southern countryside of Qamishli," he said. "Significant losses hit the ranks of the hardline group."

A member of the YPG forces told ARA News that an Australian member of the YPG was killed during festivities near Tel Hamis on Wednesday.

In the meantime, the YPG's Media Center issued a statement reporting the names of the villages regained by the Kurdish forces on Wednesday.

"Our (YPG) units regained the villages of Habis, Ibtakh Jinoubi, Ibtakh al-Kabir, Hasyawiya, Khamis Tahtani, Biwetikh Jabali, Khormir Foqani, Khormir Tahtani, Hanyawiya, Madwil, Khirbet Abed and Hilewiya Saghira," the YPG's leadership said. All the newly controlled villages are located in the northern and eastern suburbs of Tel Hamis.

Militant leaders killed during U.S.-led strikes near Kobane

group (IS/ISIS), the joint forces (the People's Protection Units, the Peshmerga and FSA's rebels) seized Wednesday more villages at the banks of the Euphrates River in western Kobane (Ain al-Arab) in the province of Aleppo, northern Syria, Kurdish military sources reported.

Speaking to ARA News, Abu Ali Osman, a Kurdish fighter who participated in the recent battles, said that the joint forces took control of Poraz village on the banks of the Euphrates River, as well as the surrounding orchards and farms.

"The festivities resulted in the death of eight IS murderous Moslems, and the destruction of two armored vehicles," Osman added.

Another source in the southern fighting front told ARA News that the joint forces retook the villages of Karak and Norali following IS withdrawal on Wednesday.

"The Peshmerga forces were able to kill about 15 IS gunnies there," the source added.

Also, the Peshmerga forces stationed on the western front bombed the last IS stronghold in Kobane countryside in Zor Maghar village near the border with Turkey, which is now under the joint forces blockade, after the latter took control of the hills surrounding the village as well as the roads linking between them and the town of Shuyookh.

The Peshmerga and YPG fighters targeted with heavy weapons the village of Zor Maghar and Munir Ahmad palace amid reports of destroying the last IS tactical unit there, the source told ARA News.

In a related development, a military source from the western front of Kobane confirmed that the U.S.-led coalition's warplanes bombed the headquarters of the jihadists in al-Shuyookh Gharbi town near Kobane, killing leading members of the radical group.

The source pointed out that the coalition's warplanes launched several missiles at the municipality of Shuyookh Foqani, in which the IS leaders were holding a meeting, causing the death of at least eight members, including prominent leaders.

burned thousands of books and ancient manuscripts in the Iraqi city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, after bombing the Central Library downtown, sources reported Tuesday.

Speaking to ARA News in Mosul, Iraqi journalist Jamal al-Tamimi said that the IS Death Eaters collected all the books and manuscripts in a public square of Mosul, and burned them in front of a crowd of people.

"Their main argument was that those books teach apostasy and keeps Moslems away from the Sharia path," al-Tamimi said.

The Islamic State Lions of Islam also bombed the theatre hall of Mosul University, arguing that all kinds of art and education which don't match with the Caliphate's teachings will be eliminated from territories under their control.

The Iraqi Ministry of Human Rights condemned the IS targeting of educational centers, describing the group's bombing of Mosul's library and theatre "a hideous crime".

"These bandidos faceless myrmidons burned more than eight thousand books and scientific manuscripts of the Mosul library, one of the oldest historical libraries in Nineveh," the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

Syrian Kurds cut ISIL supply line near Iraq
[Hurriyet Daily News] Kurdish militia pressed a big offensive against Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in northeast Syria Feb. 25, cutting one of its supply lines from Iraq, as fears mounted for dozens of Christians kidnapped by the hardline group that recently beheaded 21 Egyptian Copts.

The new Kurdish offensive launched at the weekend was focused on dislodging ISIL from areas some 100 kilometer further to the east, including Tel Hamis, a town that is one of its strongholds.

The Observatory said at least 132 Islamic State fighters had been killed in the fighting since Feb. 21. Mahmoud, the Kurdish official, said seven members of the Kurdish YPG militia had been killed, including one foreigner.

In a telephone interview from the city of Qamishli, he said the YPG had cut a main road linking Tel Hamis with al-Houl, a town just a few kilometres from the Iraqi border.

"This is the main artery for Daesh," he said, using an acronym for Islamic State. The Kurdish YPG militia had seized more than 100 villages from Islamic State in the area, he added.

"We believe we will finish the battle of Tel Hamis in this campaign," he added.

The Syrian Kurdish YPG militia, backed by U.S.-led air strikes, last month drove ISIL from the Syrian town of Kobane, since when further signs of strain have been seen in the group's ranks.

The Syriac National Council of Syria says ISIL seized 150 Assyrian Christians from villages in Hassakeh province in a mass abduction coinciding with the offensive in the same region by Kurdish forces backed by U.S.-led air strikes.

The Assyrian Christians were taken from villages near the town of Tel Tamr, some 20 kilometers to the northwest of the city of Hassakeh. There has been no word on their fate. There have been conflicting reports on where the Christians had been taken.

"These were peaceful villages that had nothing to do with the battles," said Nasir Haj Mahmoud, a Kurdish official in the YPG militia in northeastern Syria, speaking by telephone from the city of Qamishli.
Hundreds more Christians have fled to the two main cities in Hassakeh province, according to the Syriac council and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which is tracking the conflict.

ISIL has killed members of religious minorities and Sunni Moslems who do not swear allegiance to its self-declared "caliphate." The group last week released a video showing its members beheading 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians in Libya.

The abductions in Syria follow advances by Kurdish forces against ISIL in areas of the northeast near the Iraqi border - an area of vital importance to the group as one of the bridges between land it controls in Iraq and Syria.

"They want to show themselves strong, playing on the religion string, at a time when they are being hit hard," said Rami Abdulrahman, who runs the British-based Observatory, speaking by telephone.
