Yep, you can thank the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA)... aka 'no longer mapping agency' for that.

But how are we going to sell expensive new computers and SW every 18 months if these pogs are wedded to 1:50,000 paper maps ?

#1  Some good stuff for historians here; e.g., map of Afghan refugee location in Pakistan in 1982. In the nineteen eighties, when cartography was influenced by the human (rather than machine dominated) touch, the CIA was the best.
