| Policeman killed during robbery attempt in Karachi |

| [DAWN] Two people, including a policeman, were killed and one person was reported injured in Bloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... , DawnNews reported. The incident took place in the city's Garden Town near the Karachi zoo during a robbery attempt at a booking office of the Pakistain International Airlines. Police reached the site and an exchange of fire took place between the robbers and the law-enforcers with Inspector Qamar Satti losing his life. The robbers fled the area immediately afterwards and the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Today's incident comes a day after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf... presided over a meeting on law and order and the ongoing operation against bully boyz in Karachi. It was reported, however, that the premier had expressed displeasure over the poor law and order situation in the city and had questioned officials present as to why the condition had deteriorated after becoming stable for some time. |
