#1  1. Somebody did something really, really stupid aboard that airplane.

2. The Malaysian government - never known for its willingness to admit error - panicked.

I suspect the Malaysians have a perfectly good idea as to what happened, but they're never going to admit it because that would be to admit fallibility, and in that part of the world that gets you in prison at best and at worst communing with Allan.
