Few women are trying for elite special operations roles, new data shows
2024-03-14
[Mil Times] In the eight years since the Pentagon opened previously closed special operations jobs to women, just four have entered the training pipeline to become a Navy SEAL.

Only 17 women have attempted Marine Raider training in that same timeline. None of those applicants went on to secure a position on a SEAL or Raider team.

That’s according to new data compiled by the military services at the request of the Pentagon-appointed Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services.

The information provides a rare snapshot into military efforts to breach what is effectively the last frontier of gender integration: the elite and physically demanding units that operate in secrecy and conduct the most complex and high-stakes missions.

#8  I have no problems with female SEALs, IF they don't make it easier for them. SEAL training is designed to pick the best of the best. It is designed to push people to their physical and mental limits. According to the internet, only 20-25% make it through SEAL training.

#7  *shrug* Most men don’t make the cut, and of those who could, many do not want to work quite that hard. Fewer women are capable of reaching that level, and of them, even fewer are willing to do the work or are able to get through it without serious injury. The only ones surprised by this outcome are the generals who really, really wanted a 50% female Special Forces.

#3   elite and physically demanding units

Like the man said, the race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but that's a good way to bet.
