[Regnum] American journalist Tucker Carlson, who interviewed Russian President Vladimir Putin, received warnings of possible pressure and persecution in the United States. He spoke about this on a podcast on the YouTube channel of blogger Lex Friedman.
Lawyers and advocates warned him about the measures that could be taken against Carlson for his trip to Russia.
“My lawyers before I left, and these are people who work for a large law firm, said that if you do this, you will be detained by the American government for violating sanctions,” the journalist explained.
These warnings, according to Carson, “infuriated” him, and he turned to the main lawyer, who explained what the point was.
“A lot will depend on the questions you ask Putin, if you seem too nice to him, you could be detained when you return,” the defense attorney told Tucker Carlson.
The journalist added that he did not feel in danger in Russia.
As IA Regnum reported, the Kremlin does not intend to reveal the “internal kitchen” of preparing Putin’s interview with Carlson. The Russian leader's press secretary Dmitry Peskov announced this at a briefing on February 26, commenting on Tucker Carlson's words that he was prevented from conducting an interview.
Carlson, in an interview with the Blaze media company, said that US intelligence agencies conducted surveillance on him before he interviewed the Russian President. The journalist clarified that they had been preparing for the interview for about two years. According to the ex-TV presenter, the Russian side set a condition for the conversation: in the event of an information leak, Moscow could refuse the event.
The interview was published on the night of February 9. After the release, Peskov emphasized that Tucker Carlson is a mirror of public opinion in the United States.
