House GOP Will Introduce Stand-Alone Israel Aid, Snubbing Border and Ukraine Funding Package
2024-02-05
[PJ] House Republicans will introduce a bill this week that would give Israel $17.6 billion in military aid, more than the $14.3 billion in Israeli aid contained in the national security bill that will be considered by the Senate next week. The extra $3.3 billion is for U.S. military operations in the Middle East.

The Senate bill will also include $61 billion for Ukraine and about $15 billion for aid to Taiwan and border security.

But Speaker Mike Johnson is refusing to take up the Senate bill because Senate Democrats "have eliminated the ability for swift consideration of any legislation" because they refused to negotiate the aid package with the House and the House wlill "continue to lead" by taking up and passing a narrow package focused only on aid to Israel.

"As I have said consistently for the past three months, the House will have to work its will on these issues and our priorities will need to be addressed," Johnson wrote.

Those "priorities" don't include aid to Ukraine or changes in immigration law. Any bill that addresses those two issues will have to be passed by a majority of Democrats with some Republican backing.

#5   which, IMO, is having Russia as ally against China

That’s a lovely, romantic idea, but I don’t see it ever happening. Russia appears to have retained a sentimental attachment to Soviet allies and clients.

#4  #2,3 I'm sure there are backup plans for that.

#2  The bill won't pass - so it costing US taxpayers nothing.

And neither will Schumer's bill when it gets to the House. Sorry about that.

#1  House GOP Will Introduce Stand-Alone Israel Aid, Snubbing Border and Ukraine Funding Package

Eminently practical on several levels.
(a) Ukraine/Russia war (or, as I prefer, Russian Civil War) was never in USA national interest (which, IMO, is having Russia as ally against China). It always was a Globalist project, because EU elites are afraid of their own oppressed people being influenced by a bad example (plus, they've tried to conqueer Russia for a 1000 years).
(b) Border security.
(i) Closing the border now will achieve nothing - the fox IS in the henhouse. The only solution is to wait for things to become so bad that mass deportation is feasible.
(ii) For the first time in 3 generations, Pubs see a chance to get, at least some, black vote - because blacks starting to grasp that their special status is threatened by invaders.
(c) Helping Israel
(i) It is in USA national interest for Israel to win. Because WOT didn't end when you proclaimed victory and toned it down. 10/7 was inspired by American defeat in WOT.
(ii) There's a chance of getting some Jewish vote.
(d) The bill won't pass - so it costing US taxpayers nothing.
