According to the police, Mohammad Shafi Mir, a retired Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), was targeted by assailants during his azan (prayers) at a local mosque in Gantamulla Bala area, as per police reports.

Following the attack, the J&K police secured the area and initiated an investigation into the tragic incident.

Last month, snuffies critically maimed a police inspector near Srinagar's Eidgah mosque. The inspector, Masroor Ahmad Wani, sustained severe injuries after the attack while playing cricket with local boys at the Eidgah ground in Srinagar. He was subsequently hospitalized for treatment.
