#3 Actually met a guy who got a Silver Star for doing this in WW2. Sergeant in a mortar platoon, being overrun near Bastogne. Platoon most wiped out, people running away. Stood a mortar vertical, dropped three in the pipe in succession, and beat feet. Also got a purple heart there, but they got the position back when it all cleared. RIP |
