New York City to reduce police numbers, slash budgets due to billions spent on migrant crisis |
2023-11-17 |
[FoxNews] New York City on Thursday announced it is reducing police numbers and cutting budgets in areas like education as it continues to struggle with the exorbitant costs related to the "sanctuary" city's migrant crisis. Mayor Eric Adams announced a $110.5 billion budget, saying cuts across all agencies were necessary with the city having spent $1.45 billion in fiscal 2023 on the migrant crisis and nearly $11 billion expected to be spent in 2024 and 2025. "For months, we have warned New Yorkers about the challenging fiscal situation our city faces," Adams said in a statement. "To balance the budget as the law requires, every city agency dug into their own budget to find savings, with minimal disruption to services. "And while we pulled it off this time, make no mistake: Migrant costs are going up, tax revenue growth is slowing and COVID stimulus funding is drying up." |

#15 Paper cuts. So many police, etc. have quit that instead of actual firing/layoffs. the city just don't hire replacement and thus can claim to have reduced the budget. Just another political magic trick, watch the hands... |

#12 I’ll like to be the guy in charge of winding down the numbers of the NYC Police. Everyone else has done all the work, I could just sit at my desk and be sure that my bonus was maxed. Maybe I would harass the schlub who didn’t follow the memo about including a cover sheet on the TPS report. |

#11 The value of any legit bidness to the mob is as a conduit for money laundering. That's why they have no problem with buying in but will gladly just take it over if they can. For it to work as a money laundering conduit it has to fulfil its legitimate function. |

#10 You don't have enough police, so your solution is to have less police. Brilliant. As for paying for the garbage pickups, you've heard about the mob using the garbage biz to make money. Who do you think the mob paid off to get the biz? But there will be no prosecutions for that. |

#8 Police and fire are often the first things to go in a budget "crunch". Guess Garbage has a stronger union. |
