New Turkish military reinforcements arrive in NW Syria, Defense Minister sez army not leaving; Border guards maim wannabe border crossers
2023-08-14
[NPASyria] Ottoman Turkish forces sent on Saturday a new military convoy consisting of military and logistic equipment to the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria. This came a day after Syrian government reinforcements arrived in the countryside of Idlib and Aleppo.

Military sources told North Press that a Ottoman Turkish military convoy consisting of 16 military, logistic, and armored vehicles entered through Kafr Lossin border crossing in northern Idlib into Syrian territories. The vehicles headed towards Ottoman Turkish posts in Zawiya Mountain in the south of Idlib.

The convoy included 12 armored vehicles and four trucks loaded with ammunition and logistic supplies, the sources noted.

The Ottoman Turkish reinforcements arrived a day after government forces sent military reinforcement to contact lines with Ottoman Turkish-backed armed opposition, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else

On August 7, the Ottoman Turkish forces sent a convoy of military and logistic equipment to the de-escalation zone.

Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Ottoman Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.

The M4 Highway runs from Latakia to Saraqib, southeast of Idlib. It also connects Ariha and Jisr al-Shughur in the southern and southwestern countryside of Idlib. Its length is 120 km. Turkish defense minister says army to not leave Syria

[NPASyria] YaÅŸar Guler, Ottoman Turkish Minister of Defense, said on Saturday that the Ottoman Turkish army will not leave Syria "without guaranteeing the security of its border and the safety of its people."

Guler stressed, in an interview with a Ottoman Turkish channel, that the most important stage of peace in Syria is the making of a new constitution.

"The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

sincerely wants peace. But we have sensitivities. It is unimaginable for us to leave Syria without guaranteeing the security of our border and people. I believe the Syrian president will act more reasonably about this topic," the Ottoman Turkish official said.

He explained that the Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First

"is making the effort of making peace in Syria."

Earlier, the Ottoman Turkish president stressed that he was not thinking of withdrawing Ottoman Turkish forces from Syria. Ankara frequently reiterated that they would not accept preconditions that lead to direct negotiations with the Syrian government, including the withdrawal of its forces from Syrian territories.

Turkish border guards assault Syrians for crossing border in Afrin

[NPASyria] Turkish border guards assaulted, on Saturday, a group of Syrians after they tried to cross Syrian-Turkish border from the countryside of Afrin Region, northwest Syria.

Local sources from the region told North Press that border guards severely beat 15 people while trying to cross the border near the village of Khazafiya in the town of Sheikh Hadid, northwest Afrin.

The border guards detained the group and handed them over to Sultan Suleiman Shah Division (Amshat) and scars of extensive torture were obvious on the bodies of some of them, the sources added.

Most of those who try to enter Turkish territory resort to dangerous smuggling routes to reunite their families or get a job opportunity to meet their needs, especially in light of poor living and economic conditions people suffer from in northwestern Syria.
