The blast from an IED struck Ugandan soldiers travelling in an armored convoy on the outskirts of the port city of Marka, the placid provincial capital of Lower Shabelle region.
The troops fired randomly at every direction in response to the attack and there were no reports of casualties as result of the fire towards the nearby civilians.
Confirming the incident, a resident told Radio Shabelle by phone that the IED struck one of the armored vehicles in the convoy that was towed to Marka from the area.
No group has so far grabbed credit for the attack but such incidents bore the hallmarks of al-Shabaab bombings in the Long-chaotic country.
The volatile Lower Shabelle is the most militarized region in Somalia where US has a base to launch dronezaps against al-Shabaab as AU and SNA battling the group on the ground.
On Sunday, ATMIS — AU mission said three soldiers died and 8 others maimed after a helicopter crash in American base in Baleddogle in the same region during a training.
