Inside the REAL boot camp: US Army expands scheme to get flabby, low-grade wannabes into shape and into uniforms, after last year's dismal 15,000 recruitment dropoff
2023-01-12
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Students have 90 days to lose weight, or they're out

  • They flail around fields with kettle balls in a strict weight-loss regimen

  • Dieticians, physical therapists, and athletics coaches help them shed pounds

  • So far, more than 90 percent of applicants have graduated on to basic training

  • Only 23 percent of young Americans are smart or fit enough to join the Army
I think they mean and here, not or.
  • Low quality applicants and a lively job market made 2022 a bad recruitment year

#10  I'm 63, could not pass the PT but not gross. The issue is, I would fight for my country, but not under Darth Lunch.

#9  Scary that at almost 70 and no military service I have a better chance of qualifying for military service than the average 18 year old. (Of course the DIs would have problems dealing with me…)

Tis not the way wars work, dear Herman.

#2  You want better quality recruits? Shut down the student loan program and tell them they can get their college money via the GI Bill.

#1  It's actually good that recruitment has problems. We might have fewer wars that way. It's worth a shot.
