Established in Exile; Norway-Based Afghan ‘Chashm News Network’ Starts Broadcasting
2022-12-12
For information.
[KhaamaPress] A group of Afghan journalists in exile have established the "Chashm News Network," a new news organization based in Norway that broadcasts and publishes news from Afghanistan, the region, and the world.

The Chashm News Network officially began broadcasting on Sunday, December 11 in three languages: English, Persian, and Pashto.

The newly established news channel is founded by a group of Afghan journalists based in Europe, the US, and Afghanistan, and is led by Sharif Hassanyar, the former CEO of Ariana Media House.

In a newsletter, the Chashm news channel stated that it is committed to the values of free expression, social justice, human rights

, women’s rights, the rule of law, and civic values.

According to the news release, the Norway-based Chashm media outlet presently broadcasts in three languages and will soon start broadcasting in Norwegian.

While many Afghan media outlets have closed since last year as a result of attempts to muzzle and censor the media as well as other issues, new ones have formed and function externally.

The government in Afghanistan has imposed a series of restrictions since rising to power last year, including a mandate that female broadcasters cover their faces while on air.

This comes as another group of Afghan journalists in the US recently launched "Amu TV," a channel that began airing on August 1 this year in three languages (Dari, Pashto, and English).

Sicht TV is another independent online TV channel recently created by three journalists from Afghanistan living in Germany, which broadcasts in Persian and German languages.

Sheesha Media, founded by Aziz Royesh, is another Afghan media organization based in Canada that was established in exile and covers political, social, and economic issues with the aim of educating people about democracy, the rule of law, and the protection of human rights.
