Putin: Western aggression in WW2 'needlessly destroyed German cities'
2022-09-30
[Jpost] Putin complains of Western aggression, tragic fall of USSR during speech.

During the annexation ceremony of east Ukrainian provinces, Putin claimed that residents were "taken from their native motherland as the USSR was torn apart."

The ceremony officially annexing occupied Ukrainian territories into the Russian Federation began on Friday at the Grand Kremlin Palace in Moscow.

"Western aggression known no bounds, as with the destruction of the Nordstrom pipelines," Putin said, saying that Western attempts to install regimes "as they see fit" would not work on Russia and other "sensible countries."

Putin concluded by saying that Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia will now "return to their rightful place as part of the motherland."

A signing ceremony was held shortly afterwards, officially solidifying Russia's declaration of annexing the regions.

The signing of the accession agreements was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the Russian-installed leaders of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, as well as both houses of the Russian parliament.

Earlier Friday, Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, a legal prerequisite for allowing their absorption into the country. Russia had previously recognized Donetsk and Luhansk as independent republics in February.

DONETSK, LUHANSK, KHERSON AND ZAPORIZHZHIA
The four territories set to be annexed on Friday comprised around 15% of Ukraine, and formed a land bridge to the Crimean peninsula, which had been seized and annexed by Russia in 2014.

Donetsk and Luhansk's Russia-backed separatists have been in conflict with the Ukrainian government since 2014. The regions have a significant ethnic Russian minority.

Kherson's main city was one of the first major Ukrainian population centers to fall in the Russian invasion. The port city of the same name as the region sits at a strategic position at the mouth of the Dnipro River, which bisects Ukraine.

Zaporizhzhia has notable sites within its territory, such as the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power station in Enerhodar, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.

#18  Wondering now how to tile an image behind a post. [Hysteria!] Please don't tell me, because duh, but wouldn't it be cool?

#17  “For a nation that has been completely raped, ratfucked and destroyed Ukraine is still putting up a pretty good fight.“

And they’re completely, totally fucked.

Their economy is completely ruined. It was a basket case before April 2022; now it’s an African or Gaza style hellhole. Do you have any idea what it’s like to live in a country where GDP per capita is less than $3 a day? That’s Ukraine now. Poorer than 90% of sub-Saharan Africa.
4th world poverty. For the next 40 years.

How on earth do you consider that a good outcome?
Yeah I get it: they’re brave heroic noble gallant etc.
they’re also DEAD as a nation.

Is that wise? Tell us, seriously. Noble, maybe, but was refusing a peace settlement a wise choice?

#16  * why are we screwing ourselves over this shithoke bastard country?

I’m not a fan of Russia. I care about the United States. Why are we shooting ourselves in the balls?

This is even stupider than the Iraq War. Another Endless War that does nothing for us except drive us further into debt, set another region of the world on fire, and make us and our allies poorer and less safe. For what?

End this idiocy. Someone needs to take out those lunatics who are pushing our brain-dead vegetable president toward nuclear war. Stop those fuckers before they cause even more damage to us.

Again, I don’t give a shot about Putin and hope he rots in hell.

I care about the United States. Why are we pursuing and escalating this idiotic, pointless, self-destructive war?

#15  Ukraine is now a 4th-world country with a GDP somewhere between Somalia’s and Zimbabwe’s. And a political class that rivals any in Africa for corruption, incompetence and brutality.

We don’t go to war for “democracy in Zimbabwe,” or Somalia or Mail or Ouagadougou. Why are we screwing our selected — and destroying Germany and Italy and the rest of our allies in Europe — over this 4th world cesspool called Ukraine?

Can anyone state clearly — no bullshit about “defending democracy,” or stupid and inaccurate fake analogies to 1938 — state clearly what vital national interest we have in that wretched miserable country?

Seriously: what’s our vital interest there, vital as in, worth destroying our wealth and setting the world aflame and risking nuclear war over?

Tell us. Please.

#14  As for #8, Trump Volunteers to Lead Negotiations With Putin.

Only one problem, Donald: Biden wants war.

#12  Look at this objectively. Russia has paid a heavy price, but NATO allies are paying an even greater price, and Ukraine is essentially wiped out as an independent functioning nation.

For Russia, controlling >20% of Ukrainian territory, including four entire provinces, plus consolidating control over Crimea amounts to a decisive victory. The total destruction of Ukraine as a functioning economic entity is gravy — as is creating chaos and instability from London to Berlin to Rome. A heavy price paid but one the Russians are happy to pay in exchange for destroying Ukraine and cementing control over Crinea and the land bridge thereto.

Poor Ukraine has been completely raped, ratfucked, destroyed. If Zelensky or rather Biden had simply accepted Minsk II’s provisions, Ukraine would have been *far* better off. Think about it: through negotiations they could have retained control of their territory, their industrial base, their mines and factories in the Donbas, and all the associated tax revenues. All this, without the loss of 3 million emigres, over 100,000 casualties so far and 30,000 each month. And without $700 billion in rebuilding costs.

Walking away from the negotiations in early April was an incredibly costly mistake. If I were Ukrainian I’d be as furious at the Americans as I were at the Russians. We screwed them royally.

#10  Whether to make a deal now or risk total defeat in Ukraine? I bet Putin never thought he'd be in such a mess when he started this nastiness.

#9  Okay now this is just pathetic.

#8  Is the annexation and blood thirsty rhetoric a signal that consolidation of the eastern sections is the prelude to opening negotiations? The corridor to Crimea and little hope for political survival at home if this goes on much longer might be Putie's Come-to-Jesus assessment at this point?

#1  Putin complained of the "senseless, unnecessary" destruction of several German cities by the US and UK

C'mon, Vlad. You conveniently forget about Hitler's senseless and unnecessary destruction of English cities in that war, Russian cities as well. And if the West hadn't made war against Russia, you would be speaking German today. If you want credibility, you can't go around spouting bullshit like that.
