Man attempts, fails to stab Lee Zeldin, Republican nominee for New York governor
2022-07-22
I really hope the attacker turns out to be nuts instead of some sort of Democrat or leftist coldly attempting to ensure the election by taking out the Republican candidate for governor, like the gentleman who shot up the Republican Congressional baseball practice a few years ago..
[IsraelTimes] US House Representative Lee Zeldin, the Republican candidate for New York governor, was assaulted by a man who apparently tried to stab him at an upstate event Thursday.

The congressman, a rare Jewish Republican in Congress, escaped serious injury.

"I’m OK," Zeldin said in a statement. "Fortunately, I was able to grab his wrist and stop him for a few moments until others tackled him."

Zeldin’s campaign said the attacker was taken into custody and the congressman continued his speech.

The attacker climbed onto a low stage where the congressman spoke to a crowd of dozens outside Rochester, flanked by bales of hay and American flags. A video posted on Twitter shows the two falling to the ground as other people try to intervene.

Among those who helped to subdue the attacker was Zeldin’s running mate, former New York Police Department Deputy Inspector Alison Esposito, said state GOP Chair Nick Langworthy.

Langworthy told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that he didn’t have any details on the attacker or his weapon but exchanged text messages with Zeldin afterward while the congressman was speaking to police.

"He is fine. He’s not seriously injured. It’s just a chaotic scene there," Langworthy said. He said Zeldin had "just a little scrape" but it wasn’t what anyone would consider an injury.

Langworthy called on Hochul to issue a security detail for Zeldin to protect him on the campaign trail.

"This could have gone a lot worse. This could have really ended in a horrible way tonight and this is unacceptable," he said.

In a statement, Hochul condemned the attack and said she was "relieved to hear that Congressman Zeldin was not injured and that the suspect is in jug."

Zeldin, an Army Reserve lieutenant colonel who has represented eastern Long Island in Congress since 2015, is a staunch ally of former US president Donald Trump
...Perhaps no man has ever had as much fun being president of the US...
and was among the Republicans in Congress who voted against certifying the 2020 election results.

He has focused his campaign on fighting crime but faces an uphill battle against Hochul. He’ll need to persuade independent voters — which outnumber Republicans in the state — as well as Democrats in order to win the general election.

Democrats are expected to focus on Zeldin’s vocal defense of Trump during both of his impeachments and objection to the election results.

The NY Post has lots more about events at the VFW post campaign stop, including photos of the weapon — which looks like this, apparently popular as a defense against rapists — and a side view the unnamed miscreant, said to be an Iraq War veteran.
Update from CNBC at 2:30 a.m. EDT:
The attacker, identified by three senior law enforcement officials as David Jakubonis of Fairport, was subdued by members of the audience after he charged Zeldin, WHEC-TV reported.

That NBC affiliate reported that audience members disarmed the man, and put him in zip-ties that were pulled from campaign posters.

#24  On National People's Radio (NPR), they described the weapon as "a sharp object". Nothing to see here. Move along.

I do it retail while you supply us wholesale, Skidmark dear, answering questions before they are asked.

#19  This will not do.

You are not a bastard, Dron, and I will not allow you to say such things about yourself. Go ask Mrs. Dron to make you some chamomile tea or a mango lassi — something soothing that does not involve alcohol if you are still on painkillers — and sit with you until you are quite calm again.

#18  Very true, NMBS. This is my observation as well. And my theory stems from it. The universe is a cauldron of violent forces. Everything including man was born from a volatile churn of entropy and controlled force by... Someone. The greater the entropy the greater force is required to contain it. If He won't, we must.

Controlled violence, in this case. The fear of death deters timid men. And the plodding, conspiratorial bastitches who abuse our constitutions into working for them, they can all be put in their place. Just a bit of culling is necessary and they learn, I know. The men we appoint today unfortunately to wield violence are screened to be the kind wired to worry more about their pensions than doing what must be done. So sooner or later, it'll be up to citizens.

Of course there's a Biblical purpose to all this, whatever it is. The fall of the kingdoms of man and all that. The uniting of them under some monumental fucker who then gets trampled by Gawd on a white horse and such. But until then we stand here, with our fingers plugging holes in a dam that is going to burst one day. And people suffer. Those who naively believe in nonsense like laws and conventions. Shit.

#16  Ref #3, Not flawed at all, just uncomfortable to face for many. Good times have created soft men, and a LOT of trash unfortunately. It may be entropy, but it can be checked.

Entropy is simply a measure of disorder and affects all aspects of our daily lives. In fact, you can think of it as nature's tax. Left unchecked disorder increases over time. Energy disperses, and systems dissolve into chaos. The more disordered something is, the more entropic we consider it.

#9  Whew — he was just drunk. From Heavy.com:

1. Jakubonis Is an Iraq War Veteran & the Man Who Subdued Him Wants to help Him, Reports Say

According to Rochester First, the suspect is “reportedly an Iraq War veteran under the influence of alcohol.” Authorities have not confirmed the information.

He was zip-tied on the scene, the site reported. AMVETS national Director Joe Chenelly stopped him, and Jakubonis was taken into custody, reported Mytwintiers.com.

“When he said he served in Iraq, I got down hands on my knees and said, ‘You know, we’re going to get through whatever you’ve done here tonight,’ and told him, ‘You’re going to get better and focus on that,’ and said, ‘You can contact me after this thing is done,” Chenelly told Rochester First. “I was told not the engage with him right now. I think it’s very important we obviously have a mental health crisis nationwide— not just with our veterans but we especially have it with our veterans.”

2. Jakubonis Was at Fort Bragg in 2008 & Wrote On LinkedIn, ‘Hire me’

In 2008, Fort Bragg posted a photo of Jakubonis. The caption read, “(Another service member), right, 432nd Blood Supply Detachment, checks the blood type as Pfc. David Jakubonis reads off the list of blood needed by the simulated clinic in the field during their week-long training Oct. 14 through 18.”

He has an Instagram page, but it only has a single photo on it.

On a LinkedIn page, he wrote, “hire me. Actively seeking employment.” He wrote that he was a medical laboratory technician in the U.S. Army from 2007 to 2012, but other positions were “candidate for various agencies” and prospective asset.” He also wrote that he was “chief of Morale” for the RIT Veterans club.

The page also says he received a bachelor’s degree from RIT. “Bachelor’s Degree, summa cum laude, Criminal Justice, concentration in Psychology,” it reads, listing his GPA as 3.87. Under “activities and societies,” he listed, “President, Criminal Justice Student Association, 2013-2014.”

He also wrote that he received an associate of science degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences from George Washington University in 2008. The page lists “5 years of work experience in all departments within the laboratory of Army medical hospitals and clinics. Laboratory Technician duties also included blood donation work in all sections of the process.”

His wife’s Facebook page indicates she is deceased.

I would prefer the Democrats and their militant wing not take the irrevocable step while they also control most of the levers of government power. The election in November should see more state and local governments in total or stronger Republican hands, which leads on one hand to things like shipping President Biden’s illegals to New York City and Washington, DC, and on the other hand to overruling or replacing Soros district attorneys and enforcing tighter voting laws.

Yes, I do strongly hope the culture war does not go more kinetic than it already has. But if it must, I would prefer the battlefield to be better shaped than it is at present.

#6  I share Dron66046 viewpoint, have for decades. The Trash has been allowed to accumulate to the point that kinetic response is unavoidable. Better to do it sooner rather than later.

#5  I'm not worried about the conservatives winning such a conflict, I am just hopefully that we haven't reached the cartridge box stage yet. And yes, they are evil. But I would much rather, given the signs of parents realizing how evil these twit are, take the culture back from them, such as we are with the schools, etc. If we can pull out of it without it going kinetic, good.

If not, war to the knife and we leave our enemies impaled from sea to shining sea along I-40 as a message of what happens to such evil. So if we can avoid it good, if not, I'd rather see it happen now than when my kids wind up having to fight this. I would much rather they deal with the aftermath of "All the lefties are dead" vs having to be the ones to do it.

Not so.

#3  Okay let's process this a bit? And mods, please 'smoky the bear' me whenever you deem fit. Don't wanna give Fred any trouble.

Your primary worry is that the republicans wouldn't win such an engagement, at this time, right? I understand that totally. But the reluctance to get dirty in conservatives is very counterproductive. I for one think as soon as the Right is back in, they should start dishing out the kinetic. Kashoggis and Epsteins left and right. None of this 'ye oldè constitution wilt save us eventually, it was written perfect' philosophy will help sustain the Republic in the long run. Your enemies are killers, inhuman, sadistic, worse than Nazis, insane Satan spawn. That is evident.

A Pakistani guy once told me an Urdu couplet about conflict. It said something like 'when the thug and the lawyer fight it out, only the thug will win'.

My worldview may be hopelessly flawed, but I think every society needs to take out the trash once in a while. It accumulates, see? And if you don't do it, the trash takes you out. Do unto others as soon as they can't do it back to you and all that.

#2  Because we don't want either side to start assassinating the politicians on the other side. That's a very quick way to turn this into a kinetic civil war.
