Scientists create strange new phase of matter that seems to occupy TWO time dimensions – in potential breakthrough for quantum computing

#16  "Two time symmetries" is not the same as two time dimensions. I don't think the reporter understood.

Two time dimensions would be pretty cool, though. Several people, myself included, have played with the idea. I think macroscopic extra time dimensions are ruled out on astrophysical grounds, though.

#14  You are there, Dron. Just move forward.

#13  Thank you, MM. Oh, I struggle, a backsliding iniquitous little insecure fool. But God bless you.

#12  Most of the evil in the world is done by stupid people, not evil people. Dron, you are on top of it.

#11  You have The Word. You know more than you know.

Hey! That's exactly what my mamma used to say, MM. She would say it is a filter, a lamp to walk by even in a world darkened by stupid people who think themselves smart.

Who indeed is John Galt,
this bastard inconsequential.
The very purpose of man
is to be influential.

We get to collective misery
by first being a collective.
Did not our forebears teach
us, to be naturally selective?

🥳

#8  Dron, you may Believe and not even know that you do. But knowing it will be a balm and a sword.

#7  Even as an Ayn Rand fan, I have to turn "Seeing is believing" on its head and say that "Believing is Everything."

#6  I sometimes think the observer effect, the whole Copenhagen thingy, may also have to do with what Jesus said. In a way.

If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this tree, be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea, and it should obey you.

He didn't say 'if thou art pure of heart' or 'lest thou hast pleased the bishop with 'nuff tithes' etc. Think about it. Just believe it's gonna do something as ridiculous as uproot itself, like a cartoon tree and go and ploop! In the sea.

What if what we're 'observing' is all mutable, malleable, subject to something that only comes from whatever faith is. I don't have it. I have met people who did, but they didn't uproot any trees for my benefit now. They just had enough to get 'em by in this place. Maybe it's given in verrry careful measures to folks doubly triply tested, all QCs passed by Him? Because if someone like me could do the tree thing, why a third of this planet would be dead.

Goddamit how'd I get to here from computing? It's the painkillers.

#5  I've lately been wondering how Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle might apply to the observations of the JWST.

Does looking at something that happened billions of years ago affect what is being observed? I suspect Heisenberg and Einstein would smile, laugh, drink a shot and say "I haff a headache."

#4  In one sense, an intellectual abstraction is a form of reality, because it exists, if only in the mind.

In another sense, it's all-night backgammon bong-hit bullshit.

#3  Simply put, infinity is every single possible outcome of every single physical change moment existing simultaneously, parallel in time, and that it is the observation of the change moment(s) that creates the particular, singular outcome that is the present for the observer. Consider the trees in the forest falling creating sound only is there is a listening observer question, that observation is in fact a component of the event, not merely witness to it. Regardless, it remains that Schrodinger's cat is always dead for all practical purposes! lol

#1  Fascinating. Can't make head or tail of it [no pun] but it's the sorta exhibit you walk around open mouthed, gulp and move on.

I write a little sci-fi. So it's all raw material to me. 🙂

These guys be smart.
