"The command's initial assessment is that two al-Shabaab bad boyz were potted in action and that no civilian was injured. These efforts contrast the indiscriminate attacks that al-Shabaab conduct regularly," read the statement from the US Africa Command.

"The federal government of Somalia and the United States remain committed to fighting al-Shabaab to prevent attacks targeting civilians," the statement added as the US pledged to ensure the al-Shabaab Lions of Islam are defeated in their own war.

In recent years, the US has scaled down attacks in Somalia targeting the al-Shabaab Lions of Islam but the military insisted it's set to continue partnering with allied forces to defeat the group. Already, a number of soldiers from the US have been deployed to Somalia.

Besides helping with air surveillance, the US Africa Command has been helping with training and equipping of the Danab Special Forces, a unit within the Somali National Army. More often than not, the Danab Special Forces have been helping in the fight against al-Shabaab.
