ALEPPO NORTHERN COUNTRYSIDE, Syria (North Press) – The Turkish-backed Ahrar al-Sharqiya faction
Militants of the Ahrar al-Sharqiya faction arrested Asia Ahmad Haydar from her house in Ketekh village and took her to an unknown place and her fate has been unknown so far, a local source told North Press. Haydar was arrested under the pretext of working in institutions of the Autonomous Administration previously, according to the source. In June, the Turkish-backed military police arrested the woman and she was released after paying a ransom, the source noted. In July 2021, the US Department of the Treasury announced a new package of sanctions applied to the Ahrar al-Sharqiya faction. The city of Afrin and its villages, north of Aleppo, have been controlled by Turkish forces and the affiliated factions since March 2018. Since then, the region has been witnessing ongoing security chaos accompanied by infighting among militants of the Turkish-backed factions, arrests, and kidnappings amid the factions’ disability to settle the security and spread safety. | |
