Alabama's new congressional map blocked by 'Federal' judges
2022-01-25
MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Federal judges on Monday blocked Alabama from using newly drawn congressional districts in upcoming elections, ruling that the state should have two districts — instead of one — in which Black voters are a sizable portion of the electorate.

"Black voters have less opportunity than other Alabamians to elect candidates of their choice to Congress," the three-judge panel wrote in the 225-page ruling that found plaintiffs are "substantially likely" to prevail on claims that the current districts violate the Voting Rights Act.

"We find that the plaintiffs will suffer an irreparable harm if they must vote in the 2022 congressional elections based on a redistricting plan that violates federal law," the ruling stated.

The judges blocked use of the map and stayed the candidate qualification deadline with political parties from Friday until Feb. 11 to allow the Legislature the opportunity to enact a remedial plan.

#13  Re #6: It's not that simple. There are many ways to draw the lines, and many rules to follow to determine where the boundary lines have to be.

Some math about it (http://www.ams.org/publicoutreach/feature-column/fc-2014-08)

#10  Have these three judges considered that the rest of us are enjoying (sarc) taxation without representation as well. Can we ask: Does Maxene Waters represent anyone other than herself and her family. Who are these three judges and how did they arrive at this cockamie, racist decision. Who appointed them? Do they happen to be black and Dems? Congressional maps are about the census and party and not race. This decision should be appealed.

#7  If a given urban area is carved up into multiple districts, all the better.

#6  Yes. Drop a grid on the state. From each cross hatch, move out until population = enough for a district. Strictly mathematical, no political or court jiggering.

#5  Districts based solely on citizen population.

#4  we need a constitutional convention to set country-wide voting regulations. Districts based solely on population. voting in person with utility receipt.
I would like to see discussed a national registry which contains a voters age, gender (look in your trouisers!), county, state. Which would be queried by county registrars to determine eligibility.

IF the ultimate goal is a colorless, homogeneous society?

Then why are we are always dividing up voting districts based on COLOR percentages? Isn't it enough we are already dividing based on Political views. But now the Democrats get an extra voting filter to also play a False Race Card votes?
