Analysis: No guarantee of new Maxwell trial after juror's revelations, experts say |
2022-01-08 |
NEW YORK, Jan 7 (Reuters) - The possible failure of a juror in Ghislaine Maxwell's trial to disclose that he was a victim of sexual abuse may not be enough to overturn the British socialite's sex trafficking conviction and warrant a new trial, legal experts said on Thursday. Maxwell, 60, was convicted last week on sex trafficking and other charges for recruiting teenage girls to have sexual encounters with Jeffrey Epstein. Her lawyers asked for a new trial after the juror told Reuters and other news outlets that he shared his experience of sexual abuse during deliberations. It was unclear whether the juror, who asked to be identified by his first and middle names, Scotty David, revealed that experience during pre-trial vetting. But not all instances of jurors failing to disclose information are significant enough to merit a new trial, experts said, noting that cases where verdicts were overturned largely involved jurors who deliberately omitted information to try to get on the panel. |

#5 /\ Once again (and again, and again), why did she leave a non-extradition environment overseas to return to the Big PX ? I suspect we know the answer to that one. You pick: (a.) Reverse rendition (b.) An offer that simply could not be refused. I'm going with (b.) but only by a nose. |

#4 The Memory Hole quietly beckons vs She'll get a new trial Ima gonna go with Memory Hole. Too many people with money and influence are nervous. Logically, legally, new trial is right. But the sooner this goes away, the better. |

#3 I'm sure that suddenly after the jury came to the wrong decision some close relative of hers came into a lot of money and another had a non-fatal accident of some type. Unconnected of course but the combination brought back trauma that might justify a re-trial that could set Maxwell free where she could commit suicide in the peace of her own home. |

#2 This D-bag says he convinced two other jurors in deliberations with his tales from being someone's sex toy. Another juror also withheld abuse history but revealed it to the media after the trial. She'll get a new trial |

#1 No, no new trial. Like the jurors, she too was a victim. The Memory Hole quietly beckons. |
