First Omicron Variant Cases Discovered in U.K. Says Health Secretary
[Newsweek] The U.K has confirmed its first cases of the Omicron COVID-19 variant a day after it announced travel restrictions from southern Africa.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid said on Saturday that he had been informed by the U.K Health Security Agency (UKHSA) of two cases of the Omicron variant.

"The two cases are linked and there is a connection with travel to southern Africa," he tweeted.

#1  Useful details about the Omicron variant are rare in the media, just the usual hype and we'reallgoingtodie stuff.
Here's a recent link with some of the science associated with Omicron.
From it:
We are particularly interested in mutations that could do any of the following:
[1] Increase transmissibility;
[2] Escape our vaccines or infection-induced immunity; and/or
[3] Increase severity (hospitalization or death).

IMNSHO, only [3] matters. [2] omits natural immunity -- illustrated by people neither vaccinated nor previously infected by COVID who stubbornly refused to catch it.
The author of this piece implied travel bans are completely useless. This makes zero sense to me.
