#11  "Believe in Bernoulli or die
As your airplanes all fall from the sky."
Or believe even more
So those airplanes will soar
With no limit how high they can fly!

#9  It's better than helicopters. Don't they only fly by being so ugly the ground rejects them?

#8  Careful there! If we stop believing in the Bernoulli Effect, airplanes everywhere will crash to the ground.

#7  Move over, Butterfly Effect.
Make room for the Steve S/Suez/Bernoulli Effect

#5   Gotta figure they're looking at how to set up the next episode.

A skeptical man is always open to other possibilities, but I found the accident story believable. IIRC, it was a very windy day. A loaded container ship has a huge sail area. When a ship is in a channel, if it gets too close to the bank, the Bernoulli effect kicks in and forces the ship closer to the bank. The close end of the ship is more strongly affected and it turns sideways. Add in maneuvering complications from high winds, and there you are - stuck in the middle of the effin' Suez Canal.

That said, seeing how easy it was to generate a little global chaos has to give bad actors some ideas for a re-run.

#4   So who got the half billion + dollar settlement?

The Egyptian government, which spent lots of money getting the ship loose, and will spend even more repairing the damage to the canal.

#2  What is piracy again?

"Narrow channels which funnel shipping into predictable routes have long created opportunities for piracy"

Oh.
Privateering uses similar methods to piracy, but the captain acts under orders of the state authorizing the capture of merchant ships belonging to an enemy nation, making it a legitimate form of war-like activity by non-state actors.
