Swiss made Ceiling fans sold at Home Depot recalled over blade malfunction
2020-12-31
[Washington Examiner] A popular ceiling fan sold at Home Depot is being recalled by the hundreds of thousands after consumers reported that blades spun off while in use.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission posted a notice on Dec. 23 recalling more than 190,000 Hampton Bay 54-inch Mara Indoor/Outdoor fans produced by Fort Lauderdale company King of Fans after it said 47 people had reported blades spinning off while in use.

"Due to the extraordinary circumstances surrounding COVID-19, some of the remedies identified in recall press releases may not be available at this time. Consumers should check with recalling firms for further details," read a disclaimer on the CPSC's site. "It is important to remember that CPSC and recalling firms urge consumers not to use recalled products."

Any customers who experience "blade movement or uneven gaps between the blades and fan body" should stop using the fans immediately, the recall stated.

#8  I've yet to see a Hampton Bay product that was not Made in China and I see a lot of Hampton Bay products at Home Depot. I know that somewhere in this country comparable products are being made but you have to search all over the Internet to find them because you'll never see them at Home Depot.

#6  'made exclusively for Home Dept' - i.e., plastic gears in all its screw guns & drills. I have a thirty year-old Craftsman drill; there's none of that shit with this one.
