Kamala Harris' Potential ‘October Surprise' |
2020-10-16 |
[GraniteGrok] Democrat Senator Kamala Harris (CA) could be in for an unwelcome campaign surprise if she faces a constitutional eligibility challenge to her bid for the presidency. Why? Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of the Constitution decrees that "No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President." [Emphasis added]. While Senator Harris was born here, neither of her parents were American citizens at the time of her birth. Her father was a citizen of Jamaica, and her mother, a citizen of India. As discussed below, a patrilineal heritage is weighed heavily in determining the degree of citizenship required for anyone to become president. While this issue has been discussed before, this article is not just another rehash of the basics of the debate over the meaning of "natural born Citizen," as so many have been. Nor is it an attack on Senator Harris’ political ideology. It is blind to partisanship. Instead, it’s an in-depth account based on extensive research that provides proven insights into what the phrase meant to the Framers, how it came to be included in the Constitution, and what prerequisites for presidential eligibility flow from it. |

#14 IIRC Cleopatra was not really Egyptian but Greek, at least that's what the Romans said. Not Greek exactly, but Macedonian. The descendants of Ptolomy, one of Alexander the Great’s generals, the last of the dynasty and the the only one to speak Egyptian as well as Koine Greek. |

#13 "What makes a natural born citizen any more qualified to lead this country than one born by C-section?" ; ) I was hoping this would get Obama out |

#12 She's a putain like Colette, who said "My heart is French. My ass is international" |

#11 French dictator Napoleon was not French but Corsican. Corsica was part of the territory of Genoa. Genoa ceded the island to France. Those on the island at the time became French citizens. |

#10 I might add that things don't usually turn out well for these types of people or for their countries. |

#9 It's interesting some of the most notorious dictators in history were not natural born citizens of the countries they came to rule. French dictator Napoleon was not French but Corsican. Soviet dictator Stalin was not Russian but Georgian. German dictator Hitler was not German but Austrian. These people all came to power during turbulent times using questionable methods. On and on it goes. IIRC Cleopatra was not really Egyptian but Greek, at least that's what the Romans said. |

#8 To me 'natural born citizen' means a citizen by birth, with no naturalization process needed. By my definition Harris is eligible. |

#7 SCOTUS should come up with a check-list of what birth combos are eligable. One citizen parent but born in another country? Two citizen parents but born in US Territory or US base on Foreign soil? Non-Citizen parents but born in the USA. |

#5 precedence has already been set; we went through 8 years with someone who was ineligible to be President. so from that point on, questions like this are a non-starter. well unless it is beneficial in some way to the deep state. |

#4 Her mother a "citizen of India". That makes her Aryan, right? And that makes her....ummmm, uh, hmmmmm, a racist. And her father's forefathers involved in the slave trade....uh, hmmmmm. Let's throw their screwed up "a priori" logic back at 'em. |

#2 While Senator Harris was born here, neither of her parents were American citizens at the time of her birth. Blah, blah, blah. SCOTUS, right or wrong, has 'interpreted' the 14th Amendment as including anyone born in the borders or territories of the US, not just the former slaves that it was intended to protect. |
