  • He is accused of setting fire to a NYPD patrol car in the early hours of July 29

  • He was being followed by NYPD surveillance officers as he made preparations

  • Resto wore a Guy Fawkes mask as he torched the car near Central Park

  • If convicted he faces 20 years in prison for the attack

  • Resto had been arrested twice before: on July 10 for swinging a chain at someone during a parking dispute, and on July 15 during an anti-police brutality protest

  • NYPD estimates 300 cars worth $1 million damaged since George Floyd died
