#5 could figure a way for costs to go up while the institution is basically closed. Professors are salaried, not paid for actual classroom hours worked — not to mention that they are still teaching, and having to spend twice as much time to rework everything for on-line classes instead of in-classroom. And they own their buildings, so the maintenance overhead continues whether or not classes are in session. |
