#1 The Nazis feared Russian air units known as the Night Witches on the Russian front, female pilots between ages 17 and 25. Were given the worst planes and equipment available (bi-planes) but were excellent at surviving and taking out enemy ground targets. Not shown in this Russian TV series of the unit is they would shut down their engines near targets and swoop down at tree top level for accuracy while two other bi-planes drew Nazi ground fire higher up. The Night Witches sustained the least losses and were the most decorated Russian air unit in WWII. First episode of excellent intense Russian film making of the military unit.
